Target and Source database

Hi All,
Can anyone please tell me what does Target and Source Database means ?
Thanks

It can get confusing! In RMAN the target is, usually, the database you wish to connect to to make, say, a backup.
When cloning, the Target is the Source database (i.e. the database you wish to make a clone of) and the clone is the Auxiliary.
However, terminologies can get a bit twisted in common parlance, with the Target database being referred to as the Source and the Auxiliary database being referred to as the Target!!!
HTH.

  • Does EM 12.1.0.3 support Oracle DB 12c as managed target and repository database?

Oracle released EM cloud control 12.1.0.3 last week.  The certification matrix on My Oracle Support does not list Oracle database 12c as a supported managed target or repository database.  Is the cert matrix wrong, or does Oracle have no version of cloud control that supports the 12c database?
    Thanks

Oracle database 12c is supported as a managed target - but not as repository. MOS is being updated to reflect this shortly.

  • Target and Source Table - Query from ODI Repository

    Hi folks,
Can anybody help me? I am trying to query the following from an ODI 11g work repository:
All tables and for each table the tables that are listed in designer as “filled by” (don’t know the exact translation as I am using a german ODI designer) – in other words “all tables and the tables they are depending on”. The reason is to perform a connect-by query on that.
There is a solution published on ODIEXPERTS: http://odiexperts.com/interface-mapping-query, but however it does not show me the expected results. Does anyone have an idea how to get a simple table like that:
    TARGET          SOURCE
    TAB1           TAB2
    TAB1           TAB3
    TAB2           TAB4
    TAB3           TAB5
    TAB3           TAB6
    TAB6           TAB7
Using the Metadata Navigator is no option as we don’t have Weblogic installed and I need the data for further processing.

If memory serves you have an SNP_POP table still in that release, join to the Model table (the joins cols are obvious if I recall) to get the datastore names and your more or less there.
I dont have that table in 11.1.1.5 and we moved over a while back so cant really take a look anytime soon.

  • AttachMovie using variable target and source names

I've frequently used variable names for the target but is it impossible to do this:
    holder.attachMovie(["mcButton"+i], ["box" + i + "_btn"], this.getNextHighestDepth()*200, {_x: arrBtnX[i], _y: arrBtnY[i]});
I can't get it to work and I haven't been able to find an example.  It doesn't work without the square brackets either.
    Thanks
    Marion

Thank you very much for replying.  I had tried that before without success but I discovered I had given the 'holder' a different name (doh!)   Now that I am using the correct name, I find that it's working but only the last target movieclip appears.   When I trace(i) I get the full trace.  When I trace(btnHldr["box" + i + "_btn"]._x) I get the correct figures.
I have double-checked the linkage names for the mcButton0-5 movieclips and they are correct.   I suspect it's looping through and replacing the same source with the target.  I'm a bit puzzled.

  • Reimporting Target and Source structures

    Hi,
We recently applied an OSS note (new field) and added a few fields to VBAK table and this is impacting an interface. I would like to get some help on reimporting the source and target structures. Following is the message I get in the processing log inside Message Mappings.
Target structure has no such path:
Greatly appreciate your help with this.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Right click on the Namespace and click on export, it will show you next steps, select whole Namespace to move, that way you wouldn't miss anything, or else you can select individual objects in the drop down and select the message mapping that you changed.
you need to export idoc structures too, right click on software component version and click export and go to individual objects in the drop down and select only the idocs that you want to move, or else you can move whole software component version so that there is no need to move namespace separately.
if you have CTS+ configured already it will create a TR, go to abap stack and type tcode SE09 and you will see a TR which is created. click on it and release the TR (there will be a truck fig on top of the screen after menu bar).
once released contact basis to import it or you can go to STMS and import it from there...
I am trying to post this since yesterday but it is not allowing me to
    thanks.

  • Rman terminating The Production and Catalog database

    Hi ,
In 10g while Taking Rman backup for a volume of approax 600 GB , The backup worked Worked Well For 200 GB but then Terminated the Target and Catalog database ie The Alert Log shows There is a clean Shutdown on server and On Catalog Server In Alert Log Itshows the message User requested Cancel of Operation and Finally Shutting the Instances Down .
I would Be thankful I any Solutions or possible Reason are provided , as my target is in 24X7 enviornment .
    Thanks in advance

Hi , I could Not have the the snap shot or any material to show ,
The backup is basically to Disk and not on a tape ,
But Since the problem faced while taking the backup on 10g through the catalog server , compared to 9i databae 10g generates the backup file on my production server ,
to avoid this I had actually done a NFS mount LInux feature Where I mounted a Huge enough partition of My catalog Server to production server generating the Rman backup indirectly to my catalog server instead of production server .
But its typically OS conceptual , I dont find any thing wrong , Also I had assigned enough Large Pool Parameter value to ensure I have enough Memory to My rman backup .

  • Exchange 2010 - 2013 Public Folder Migration target database gets much bigger than source database

    Hi,
i have a question about the pf migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. The source database ist about 370 GB. The migration process is still running. At the moment the target database is already 491GB big. Is that a normal behaviour during the migration
    process.
    Thanks

    Hi,
After you have finished the public folder migration process, you can compare the item count of public folders to make sure all public folders have been moved to Exchange 2013.
You can check this by comparing the snapshots before and after the migration. You can refer to the "How do I know this worked?" section in the following article.

    create table b (bb number)

    merge b as target
    using a as source

    when matched then

    Hi,
I have no idea about the version of DB, else some new features with respect version can be specified - just for informaitve purpose and to post across the verison of DB in future posts.
Coming to your issue and requirement.
if you check the syntax and functionality , then its on Merge on target base only - with respect to Update (matched o columns) and insert (for unmatched columns). Source - as the term is clear. It might not work out on source table.

  • Columns mismatch between Source database and Source in Informatica

    Hi,
I'm trying to create few columns into the datawarehosue tables. I can see the columns in my source system (Siebel CRM) in toad. When I access the source table via Informatica Powercenter Designer. I don't see that column in the source tabel. I have a doubt that whether I'm connecting to the right source database from Informatica. How do I check this and change this? The column which I'm looking for in the source system is not custom column. Its Siebel out of the box column. Could any one provide more information on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ravi

You may have to reimport the table from the Source Analyzer workspace. When you import, make sure you are pulling from the correct source database and schema.
Informatica does not automatically update the table definition if the source changes.

  • Locks made against source database (SQLServer 6.5 to 9.0.1.2 migration)

I was wondering if there is any information about the types of locks that OMWB will take out on the source SQLServer database in a migration. From what I can tell these locks occur on the source database while the table data is loaded in to the target Oracle database. Are they taken at any other time during the migration process? How does OMWB determine what locks to take?
I need to migrate several production SQLServer 6.5 databases and I need to understand how OMWB will perform locks so I don't bottleneck our production SQLServer databases while they are converted to Oracle. Most of the migration work will be performed off hours, but I still would like some insight into the locking. In a related question, how does OMWB maintain consistency between tables during the migration process?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    -Reid

    Hi,
You will be able to migrate from 6.5 to 9.3.1, if the 6.5 version is on a seperate server from the planned 9.3.1 version then you can use the migration wizard to do so.
If you want to migrate users and groups make sure the 9.3.1 version is still in native security mode, otherwise you will need to use esscmd/maxl to extract user information and then import.
The migration wizard will not take the data so you should really export that from your source.
    Cheers

  • Mapping constant values to the target data source columns

    Hi
A Target data source has only two columns(RPT_NAME, RPT_LEVEL) and both of them are constants and mapped as follows
    WITH TEMP1 AS
(select 'AS' as A from dual
    union
select 'IS' as A from dual
    union
select 'ED' as A from dual
    select t.A as RPT_NAME, 'INV' as RPT_LEVEL from TEMP1 t
Here there is no source tabel involved for mapping and gnerating a from query.
Kindly let me know hoto map this table.
    Thanks

    Hi Amit
Is there a way we can create an intermediary staging table or model or view in ODI itself, the business requirements are such that the source and the target databases cannot change/include any other view or table .
    Thanks

  • Multiple source databases

    Hello,
I need to load data into dimensions and cube from multiple source databases. We have separate transaction databases for each country, but data must be loaded into common target schema. At the moment we have created mappings which loads data from one source database.
What is the best way to populate, for example customers dimension from customers transaction tables (located in multiple source databases) if business identifiers can overlap?

I would break this up into two pieces: the load from the source systems into the staging area, and then the load from the staging area into the target table, which you mentioned was a dimension.
There is no reason you would have to use views or synonyms if you don't want to. You could approach this either with a SET operator, in this case a union, that brought all the sources together into the staging table. However, I would likely create multiple mappings for each source system. I would create a mapping for each table that you have to pull data from, and then create a separate process flow that controls all the tables being pulled from a particular source database. This allows you to schedule the extractions from the source systems independently of each other in case they need to run at different times. The end result of all of this will be a series of staging tables that are loaded from source tables from all the different locations. For each of the singular mappings, I would create a constant that defined the source of the data for this mapping, and load that constant into a column called SOURCE_SYSTEM, or perhaps COUNTRY, as you mentioned. Then, this SOURCE_SYSTEM/COUNTRY column + SOURCE_SYSTEM_ID would serve as the natural key.
You can choose to persist these tables (as an ODS of sorts) or not... that is up to you and your requirements.
Finally, I would create a single mapping that loads the final target table from the single staging table.
Let me know if this doesn't make sense.

  • Mapping of target data source

    hi all,
while mapping the target datasource column we just write the column name in the mapping area and the query will automatically be generated.
but i want to write my own query in the mapping area.
    how can i do this?
means i am not able to write the 'from table_name' statement in the mapping area.
    please give any solution.
    regards,
    prateek.

    hi,
    thanks for rplying.
if i put the where condition at the source database using filter then all the data will be filtered.
but in my case the where condition is required only when i am inserting the data to target.
if i put the filter at the source then the whole answer will get filtered.
and one more thing, while inserting the data to the target datastore we can execute the query only on one of the source data store.
the value that i want to insert in the target column requires a query to get executed on two tables(source datastore).
is there any way to execute that query on more than one or two datastore?
can u please tell me that how to change the filter condition at the interface level?
    thanks and regards,
    prateek.
