Task Name Field, "Blank" ("") in 2007, "Empty" (Empty) in 2010, HOW TO FILD/FILTER for empty?

In MS Project 2007, I can use VBA code in Excel and determine if the selected task “Name” field is blanks by using the code “pj.Activecell.text <> “”.
In MS Project 2010, blank name cells are no longer “” (or blank), they are “Empty”. How do users filter for a non-standard value of “empty” then the text of “empty” is not in the task “Name” cell?

Since I almost know nothing about VBA and I can only read but not write code, I'll let John or Rod (VBA kings on this forum) jump in.
But here is what I go recording the macro:

Also ensure to have the latest version of Project 2010 since I noticed different behaviour with blank lines with 2 different versions.

You can mark the rows starting with lower case letters using a formula, then filter on the contents of the column containing the formula. For the example below, the names are in column B and the formula is in column C.
C2: =IF(AND(CODE(B)>=95,CODE(B)<=122),"!!!","")
CODE returns the ASCII code for the first character in the target cell. Lower case letters have ASCII codes in the range specified in the formula: a = 95, z = 122
For names starting with characters in this range, the forula returns a string of three exclamation points. For any other initial character, the formula returns a null string ( "" ).
An empty cell in column B will cause the formula to return an error in that row of column C. You can avoid this by embedding the formula in an IF statement that suppresses the calculation if the length of the entry in column B is less than one character. Revised formula shown below.
C2: =IF(LEN(B)<1,"",IF(AND(CODE(B)>=95,CODE(B)<=122),"!!!",""))

Hi Syed,
If you want to change the task field length, it is not possible. It is a native field which is predefined in the system.
But if you want to change the length of the task name itself (for example "design" by "system design"), then it it possible since what matters is the task UID and not the task name.

Predefault "User Name" field with Login Name

Hi,
Predefault in "LS Medical User Verification" BC does not work. I tried to do the following but all did not work:
* Put a predefault value in the "User Name" field, System: Creator
* Create a calc field "SCR Login", calc value: LoginName (). Set predefault of "User Name" field, Field: 'SCR Login"
* Expose "SCR Login" in the applet. Field is blank in UI.
We are using the vanilla "LS Medical User Verification Applet" for user verification and we want to predefault the User Name field with the current user logged in. How can I achieve this?

Hi,
I believe Predefault/Postdefault will only work with NewRecord even and since the User Verification Popup Applet does not go to that event on load that is why it does not work.
Since the client wanted to default the user name with the current user logged in, we just removed the User name field from the popup applet and pass the TheApplication().LoginName() to the Authentication Business Service.

Address Book/Contacts name field problem

Any suggestions on why I can't leave first or last name fields blank for a contact? If I enter a "first name" and leave "last name" blank (or vice versa), why does the system automatically enter the same information in the blank field? Example "First = Jon" and "Last = Blank" (nothing is enter). Soon afterwards the enter becomes "First = Jon" and "Last = Jon". Regardless of the device used, the result is the same. I have been patiently waiting (mid April 2013) for a reply from AppleCare.

I've tried editing both on iCloud & on my unit. I've deleted the contact & waited a while & closed application to be sure it was gone then created a "new" contact in iCloud (via web site) and a different "new" contact on my unit (first on one & last on other). Within a few days it puts the info in the blank field. (I did this with AppleCare on the phone & on my on.)
Oh, should not make a difference but I use Safari and all Apps are up to date.

How do I get History to show entries that have an empty Name field?

I've noticed that if you go History/Show All History , it doesn't show entries with an empty Name field. If I enter part of the location URL in the "Search History" box (such as a Goggle search) the entries are there (with a Visit Date from yesterday), but if I then click on the Yesterday category, these entries are not shown. I'd expect the "Yesterday" category to show *everything* I visited yesterday.

I disabled Googlebar Lite, and then checked Show All History. I found that things were unchanged: I could search for an item and it would appear, but if I select all items from "this month", those items with a blank name field still didn't show up.
Even if creating an entry with a blank name is not "good practice", I'd argue that Show All History should do just that in all cases, not just when a search term thows up a match.
I'm relieved that it's not Googlebar Lite interferring with the History display, though. Its word seach buttons (that disappeared when Google Toolbar for Firefox was withdrawn) are an essential part of using search, IMO...

"Login name" field randomly empty

We have the Inventory Only client deployed. All is working well except that the "Login name" field is only filled in with about 10% of the scanned stations and those 10% change after every scan. It seems that this field is filled in and emptied randomly. ZCM Version is 10.2.1 (did not work in earlier version either). Workstations are W2K and XP, all with client 4.91sp2. Happens with both OS's. The scans on the workstations happen when users are logged in during the day. I have changed 'determining Primary User' but that does not seem to affect anything. Any idea where this field gets its value on the local workstation ?

DNS Name field empty - why?

Hi all,
Please forgive my naive question, I am not a guru of networking...
I am trying to understand why the Macs in my network (10.4.9) always have their DNS name field in ARD 3.1 empty ("Unknown") whereas the PCs (although obviously not accessible with ARD) do show up with their DNS name.
I can edit each computer "info" window, but I am not quite sure that's the way it should be done.
What do I have to do in order to know and see the DNS name?
Isn'it it supposed to be the (Mac) computer's name.local ?

It sounds like your user account is not in the admin group. Open System Preferences -> Accounts and check that there is at least one admin account. If none of those accounts are listed as admin accounts, see here for a fix: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1323191&tstart=0

TREX - name field always empty

Hello Experts,
I'm hoping you can assist me with this issue. When making a Talent Search by personnel number, the employee is returned but in the search results, the employee name is blank. However, when selcting the line and clicking on talent Profile, the name correctly appears in there.
In addition, in the Advanced Search, when searching by either first or last name, no results are returned. I've looked for OSS notes but no luck there.
Have any of you encountered this before?

How to validate incoming messages with mandatory field coming as null/empty

Hi,
I want to validate the incoming messages received by the file adpater.
1. Need to check that all the mandatory fields(minoccurs=1) has values, else it should return fault. But what happening now is even though the mandatory fields are empty/null, file is being read by the file adapter and not getting faulted.
2. I have tried using the Validate Activity/Assign Activity but this is a business fault and not sytem fault, hence no faults are auto generated.
3. We are presently using the if/switch activity and putting the conditions manually in order to validate the mandatory fields and hence it is throwing the business faults explicitly.
4. But if there is 200 fields mandatory out of 500 fields schema, then we need to hardocde manually all 200 fields. Please advise me if this is possible in any dynamic way.

What I feel is, string will accept all the values whether it is int, date, long and in the same way it is accepting null character.

Moving information from last name field into blank first name field?

Is there a script (or does anyone know how I can make a workflow in Automator) for moving information from the last name field in Addressbook to the first name field (which is currently blank)? I want to move information from the last name field to the first name field in over 500 addressbook entries, and it would take me all night to do it manually.

Required asset fields can be left empty when created in a PR/PO

Dear all,
I'm facing the following problem: When I'm creating an asset in a PR/PO I have the possibility to leave some required fields blank.
This is what I'm dong: transaction ME51N, choose multiple account assignment and in the bottom screen I create a new asset. In the next pop-up screen (asset master data) some data can be entered (e.g. cost center, location,...) but in our system the field 'capital investment order' is also set as required. Nevertheless it is possible NOT to enter a value in this field (one has to click the butten 'additional data' to be able to enter a value there) and still create a new asset. Furtheron, when working with this asset the system will issue messages because this asset is incomplete.
Can someone tell me if this is a system error because it doesn't seem logical to me that required entries can be left blank.

Hi,
transaction AUVA (Report RAUNVA00) will list all of your incomplete Assets.
Incomplete Assets can be created in 2 ways:
1. Using a "froreign" transaction like ME51N. Asset creatin from those transactions is not 100% connected to the master record rules, as you may have noticed yourself. You can create the asset, however, it is marked as incomplete. Only the depreciation key is mandatory when creating assets in "foreign" transactions, the rest is not checked against the master record rules so it is very easy to create incomplete asset masters. See also OSS note 178533 on this.
2. Using the regular transaction(s) like AS01 - if after the asset was created, the rules have been changed, like, a certain field which was optional originally and left blank upon creation, now becomes mandatory. The result is again an incomplete asset.
Until the next depreciation run, but latest before the next year change in fixed assets, you have to add missing information to the master records listed in AUVA.

How to read the "Name" field from document library in workflow?

The task I'm trying to accomplish looks pertty simple: I need to read a value of the item's "Name" field inside the workflow. I try to do it using LookupSPListItem and GetDynamicValueProperties activities. I can get value of the "Title"
field, also I created custom field and can read it too.
But the "Name" field always comes empty.
I guess I need to use some tricky syntax or this field has some different "internal name"?
The workflow is designed in VS 2013.

and change Entity Type to list of documents it changes to Name
automatically.
But somehow it doesn't work too. (:
I also tried LinkFilenameNoMenu and LinkFilename
- same result.

Looks like FileLeafRef is not loaded by default by LookupSPListItem, so you have to pass this property name via
Properties collection. The bad news is that in this case other properties won't be loaded if you didn't add them to this collection.
Anyway, it works. :)

Executable task name 200429

I'm using LV8.5 with NI-DAQmx 8.6. Getting error code -200429 "Value passed to the Task?Channels In control is an empty string (or I/O control). The value must refer to a valid task or valid channel"
This error is intermittent, meaning sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't .. although it works most of the time. However, the error only ever occurs with the executable version of the code, not in the development environment. I have an indicator telling me the task name just before going into the sub vi where the error occurs (usually something like "_unnamedTask<1E1>"), but the indicator passed out of the sub vi that tells me the task name within shows a blank name ... thus the error. So it appears the task name/reference is not be passed into the sub vi. Any clues?
