TC will work with old AEX's??? Any input greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,
I originally posted this up in April, but got no responses. If someone knows the answer to this question I'd be grateful as my decision to purchase a TC is dependent on it!
Glossary:
TC - Time Capsule
AEX - Airport Express
My current set-up:
Billion ADSL2+ modem & 11g wireless router (I got this from my ISP, and will be keeping it because I use its voIP capabilities)
2 x 11g AirPort Expresses which I join onto the current 11g network - I only use these for the AirTunes feature
2 MacBook Pro's
1 MacMini
Scenario:
I figure when I get a 1TB TC I'll plug it into the router & use it to set up a new 11n wireless network. _**Will I still be able to use my old 11g AEX's to join onto the new 11n network so I can continue to use AirTunes? Or will I have to replace all my old 11g AEX's with the new model that support 11n?**_
On top of the additional expenses of having to buy new 11n AEX's, it'll be a pity of have to throw out relatively new and perfectly working 11g AEX's
Before we get even that far, I wonder if anyone has experience with using TC with a Billion modem/router? (I will turn the Wifi function on the Billion off of course). I have come across a couple of discussion threads where people described difficulty getting the TC to work with some routers.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Leo

Hey, thanks for the help!
Does 'running in bridged mode' = 'dual-band network'?
I had no idea you could set up a dual-band network, which could potentially work well for me because I've also got a Mac Mini on my present network, which does not support the 11n system and is not known to be upgradeable to it (as yet).
So just to clarify, if I had this dual-band set-up, my 2 MacBook Pros & to-be-acquired Time Capsule could work off the 11n network, and my 11g AEX's & Mac Mini could work off the 11g network (from my original router)?
And I would actually be setting up 2 network names (1 x 5G & 1 x 2.4G) for the 1 same network?
How different would the network speed be if I set the TC up as '11n 5G only,' compared with '11n, b/g-supported?' I'd only be using Time Machine on my MacBook Pro (my work computer), so I'd like its network to be as fast as possible.
And one last question, would the Mac Mini have any problems accessing and writing data onto the TC, since it'll have to access TC through a bridged 11g network? (As opposed directly accessing the TC 11n network).
Thanks again!
As I had originally posted this question on the TC forum also, I will also thank the other helpful person with this thread.

  • Problem with simple animation.  Any help greatly appreciated.

    I am trying to make a circle (which is actually an array of polygons in the shape of a circle) change color over time. Basically what the inner loop does is assign each polygon a random color. The desired effect here is for the circle to be assigned a certain array of colors then have swing repaint the component so we can see the change and repeat, resulting in a nice animation of colors changing over time. What ends up happening is the applet only updates after it has done the entire outer loop. So only the last color state of the circle is seen after it has done all the computations. So it goes from the intial color to the end color, without showing the states in between. What can I do for it to repaint for each of the recolorings? The computation is complex enough so it's not as if it displays the colors so fast that you only notice the end state.
    for (int year=0; year<500000; year+=500)
    for (int x=0; x<180; x++)
    polys[x].setColor(generator.nextInt(250),generator.nextInt(250),generator.nextInt(250));
    repaint();
    poly.update(polys);
    }

    What is the best wireless camera that will work with my mac?

    Any reliable brand that claims Mac compatibility.
    Different wireless cams (wi-fi versus BlueTooth) may work better for different purposes, so ask your retailer for one that best does what you want to do with it.  For some examples of all kinds and types, click the link at the end of this sentence to see results of this search for your posted question.

  • Hi, back ups to my TC suddenly won't work saying there's a problem with network username/password.  Any help greatly appreciated!

    I've deselected the disc, reselected it & re-entered the password 3 times now with no luck.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    It sounds like you have much more issues than simply the TC..
    I can suggest or have suggested the workaround to the TC problem.
    Did you try it??
    What happened if you did?
    Did you simply try the standard old reboot the TC.. ie yank out the power cord. count to 10.. plug in the power cord.
    That magically fixes lots of network issues.
    Mavericks has some major issues.. do you upgrade install.
    Let me strongly recommend a clean install.. if you haven't done it. Your issues with safari look like a corrupted install to me.. but I am not an eggs spurt in OS issues.. by any long stretch of the imagination.. post the issue over in the Mavericks area.
    But as an old computer support man.. (old should be emphasised) upgrade installation are anethma.. I have never seen them work 100% and that includes with Mac. Of course you cannot expect windows to work.. but things go wrong in every OS.. no matter how wonderful.
    Make sure you have a good TM backup .. clean install and migrate your documents back.. maybe reinstall software from scratch. Not easy but the only way.

  • Cases that will work with Accessory Docks for Bionic

    I am looking for a case that will protect my Bionic and also work with the car and home docks.  Does anyone know what cases will work and still protect the phone well?  I really want the otterbox commuter series, but I doubt that will work with the docks.
    Any help is appreciated

    If motorola follow the pattern they did with the Droid X and X2 you may nor see a case that will work with the dock because the dock wasnt made to accept a case while using it...  I know its crazy but universal docks from Walmart or Best Buy is the only way to make this possible.

  • Does 750gb drive module work with old generation xserve g5?

    i would like to replace my drive module in my xserve g5 running ver 10.3.9 with apples 750gb sata drive modules. My problem is can't get a straight answer from anyone about whether or not it will work with my xserve.
    Any ideas?

    They do.. a 750GB SATA ADM will work perfectly fine on both the intel and the g5 xserves. It says explicitly on the box "Intel xServe required" but after talking to a enterprise tech, he stated that apple "has not fully officially tested on the g5 cause its a discontinued machine.. aka, they refuse to write that it is "supported".
    Didnt stop me from buying one and using it for hot swapping between my g5 and intel tho.. works like a charm.

    Michael Wasley's link (wikidot) is as accurate as any I can find.
    It's still wise to check with the vendors' websites for compliance.
    Biggest source of problems seems to be printer and scanner drivers.
    Appleworks 6.2.9 works fine in SL under Rosetta (note; Rosetta is installed by default in Leopard - in SL you may have to select it from the optional installations).
    Check particularly with Adobe products; some you'd think should work ok suddenly don't.

    I use a LaserWriter 16/600 PS plugged into my router via an adaptor.

    Some of these had Canon engines and Canon produced their own almost identical versions.

    Only two devices on our plan, so not so much an issue. And I have found myself using it much more than I thought I would when we got them (also first smart phones for both of us). Even got my wife to use hers for checking email while we were out of the country (big step forward for her ). I'm very interested in the ApplePay, but will want to wait a bit before diving into it. And since both phones are still in great working order, will likely wait a bit for the upgrade (sometime next year?). Will depend, I suppose, on the kinds of deals we see and what the plans turn out to be for updating my iPad and getting here one.

    There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

  • Will my old wall charger for Zen Vision:M will work with the (New) Z

    i bought a wall charger from amazon for my Zen Vision: M 30GB, will it work with the (New)Zen? i just bought the Zen 6 GB and it doesn't comes with an adapter, pretty bad move there, well, does it has the same plug? i hope it's compatible. thanks

    sebastiankf,
    That third party adapter from your Amazon link is hard wired specifically for the Vision:M and will not work with any other Creative player unless it has the same pin-outs using the same docking interface. The Creative AC-5V adapters will either have a coaxial power plug connection that will work with most of the Creative hard disk based players, except for the original NJB and Zen Micro, or a USB Mini-B plug that will work with all of the flash players that have a USB connection and the Zen Micro.

    Question # 1 is what do you mean by "inherited"? Is this a case where the computer belonged to someone else? Your user would not be entitled to use a program licensed to someone else.
