Telling ML Server where service data location is (again).

Hello,
I've seen this a couple of times and think it's a bug. Maybe somebody knows how to resolve this properly. Mini Server with 10.8.2 and OS X Server v2.2 running, all services configured. Service data is moved via Server->Settings->Service Data to another volume.
The customer moves the physical location of the server, probably forgets to attach the external drive containing the service data on boot. Server starts with other (local) settings rather than what was configured and run already successfully with service data located on external drive.
After stopping all services, setting the service data location to the external drive fails with "Existing Service Data - The volume “Data” already contains service data in /Library/Server. Please delete or move the data and try again, or choose a different volume.".
Yes, we want to use the service data of the external volume. This is desired. How to resolve this?
Alex

Hi,
ran several times into the same problem. Our service data was moved to an external RAID 1 volume and there it should be. For whatsoever reason the volume containing /Library/server was disconnected and upon automatic reconnection (or restart) the server could not find the service data again and therefore the osx server set the default location of service data to boot volume/Library/Server... I thought I was about to go mad... How to point the server to correct service data manually. It seemed there was no option to do this in ML OS X server. So being almost hopeless, I renamed the original service data folder on RAID 1 volume to /Library/Server_old. In the menawhile i noticed that although Finder showed correctly mounted RAID 1 volume with the initial name ("Pool") in fact in /Volumes there were /Volumes/Pool and /Volumes/Pool1 which pointed to the RAID server. Ridiculous. The OSX mounted the RAID 1 volume incorrectly or the server tried to save some sort of service data BEFORE the server data RAID 1 volume was at least mounted correctly and thus created a directory named /Volmes/Pool that fooled the server completely and corrupted it as it could not found any correct service data on /Volumes/Pool... Googling around showed that the problematic service might be Messages "_jabber". So In Server.app turn off every service available and quit. In disc tool eject the external volume containing real service data. Then in terminal delete recursively the undesired "ghost" folder ( /Volumes/Pool in my case). Pay attention not to delete the real volume containing the service data! Then again mount the external volume with the service data. Check in terminal that it was mounted correctly in /Volumes. In the meanitme act quickly. I needed to delete the gost folder several times until there was not any ghost folder anymore before mounting the true service data external volume. It is difficult to completely shut down all the server services that access service data although the Server.app shows everything offline. Then launch server.app again move the almost empty default service location to the real external Volume already mounted correctly. Now comes the brute part. On the external volume delete in terminal recursively the /Library/Server and rename the backup /Library/Sever_old to back to /Library/Server. I prayed it would work at that point. And upon restart it did work. Good luck!

  • Service data location on mac os x lion server 10.7.4

    here's my problem.....
in mac os x lion server, sever app, under hardware/settings, one can change the service data location (in my case from the server HD to an external HD), which I was trying to do. After the first attempt, I got an error message, something that had to do with "postgres". The server app created an some libraries on the external HD, but they were all empty.
Second attempt: I switched all services off and tried again: now I didn't get an error message, the app created the correct libraries and next to "service data" my external HD is being listed:..so far so good, I thought.
After restarting the server app, the external HD's name isn't listed anymore (and no other either) and the "edit" button is greyed out....that's it. No clue what to do now.
    Any ideas?

Click here and start the process.

  • OSX Server file sharing data location issues.

I have a mac mini running OSX Server on Mavericks.  I also have a Lacie 2big nas running RAID 1 for Superduper! backups that is hooked up via thunderbolt to the mac mini.  My problem is, even though my Service Data location is set to the mac mini's hard drive, all of the shared folder items are housed on the Lacie drive.
Is there a way I can move this data back to the hard drive and point the server to that location instead?  I really don't want any services or data directly stored on the Lacie drive, it's mainly there in the event that the mac mini hard drive fails and I need a bootable copy so the business may stay up and running.

There are two possibilities: one is that your server is keeping all its server data on the external HD, the other is that your accounts are individually set up to each refer to that external HD.
    Server.app
Click the line in the sidebar which has the server's name in it
    Choose the Settings tab
Check the bottom line that says 'Service Data'
If that lists your external HD, just change it to the internal one, wait for it to make the change and you're done.
If not, then your accounts are individually set up to refer to the external HD.  While there are bulk methods of moving them all over they are annoying and complicated and hard to describe.  It would be simpler to use the Finder to copy your entire home folder structure across to your hard disk, then to go down the list of users, and for each user
    Control-click on the user
    pick 'Advanced Options...'
Change the Home folder to its new place
Once you're sure the new locations are working for all your users you can delete the home folder copies from the external hard disk.

  • Server does not know the service data location

I have changed the server data location to the "other" drive of my MacMini.
Apparently, email or web use the new location.
But in the summary section of server.app, there is no filed for the data location and the "modify" button is greyed.
I probably can live with it, but this is not very comfortable.
Thanks in advance to tell me what to do.

  • Mac os x server software update data location

Does anyone know how to change the data location of Mac OS X Server (v3) Software Update?
I'd like to move it to a large RAID permanently connected to the server but I can't find the command in serveradmin.
    Cheers,
    Kirk

Why not move the whole boot disk and Serve.app and the rest out to the RAID array?  It's not like OS X is that big a hunk lately in comparison with the size of various RAID arrays, and relocating the whole configuration means you won't have to deal with a piecemeal relocation, nor any future upgrade weirdnesses that might arise from the relocation.
That approach aside, Mavericks Server storage is mostly under the /Library/Server path.  I haven't tried relocating indidual hunks yet, either.
Ah, slightly misread...  You could shut off Software Update entirely, and use Reposado.  That'll let you do what you want.
The other hunk you'd probably want to move is the Caching Server.

  • Change Software Update Service storage location - OS X Server 2.2

What's the best way to change the file storage location used by the Software Update Service in Server 2.2? I don't want to change the default "Service Data" location for the other services.
Generally I like to make as few changes to the standard configuration as possible, but in this case I need to make an exception. I'd really like to to get the catalog of update files on to an External Pegasus RAID.
I've tried using a symlink to the /Library/Server/Software Update/Data folder. That didn't work as the service was unable to update the catalogs.
Should I use a symlink on the whole  /Library/Server/Software Update/ folder or is there perhaps a better way?
With any potential solutions, how likely is is that changes I make likely to be overwritten with future updates.

    To clarify:
    1) As it was updating application data, I got an error message at the very end of the update saying that some application data may not be usable/work/wasn't updated (something to that tune) with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark inside it.  After the update, I rebooted the server just in case then let everythign start up normally.  All services turned on as per usual.

Profile Manager - Was able to test a push profile add and delete with success
    DNS - Functioning as normal
Software Update - Looking good so far (I had issues with it stopping and restarting randomly with an interval of a month or two between events, hoping that is fixed, though it never affected functionality - it was in the error logs)
File Sharing - Working as expected
Open Directory - No issues thus far
    VPN - Looks OK
    Websites - Functioning as expected
    Hope that helps you guys!

  • Data Driven EMail Subscription in SQL Server Reporting Services...

    Hi,
I have a clarification in SQL Server Reporting Services Data Driven Subscription. We have a request to send an email a report based on the report parameter Site . The request is to send email For each site the report is running, email should sent to different recipients list. We have 97 different sites in the Site parameter.
If Report is running for Site C004 the email should be sent to one recipient, if the Report is running for Site C007 , then the email should be sent to another recipient. Here we have been requested to do with Data-Driven Subscription. How to send the report as a email for each site for different Recipients using Data Driven EMail Subscription.
Please give us a suggestion to overcome this problem.
    Thanking You...

    Hi David,
Thanks for your comments. We understand the Data Driven subscription, but we dont know how to write query for this subscription. here is our scenario.
There are list of sites in the table. like C004, C007, C008 etc..... in the report,
We have Site parameter (All Sites (default), C004, C007 etc....) and also date range parameter (Start Date, End date) (which are not defaulted in the report) and other 2 parameters. Here we need to send the report to different recipients based on the site. C004 report results should be develivered to one recipient, C007 site results should be delivered to another recipient and so on....
As we are new to Data driven subscription, can you explain how to create table that will be saving the email recipients list and the query that we are specifying in the Data Driven Subscription. Please help us to how to create the data driven subscription for the above scenarion.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • HT4974 How can I select a remote volume (NAS) as my service data storage volume?

    Hi everyone,
I have been struggling with the following:
I have Mac OS X Server (the Mountain Lion add-on) running on a Mac Mini (2009). Ever since the upgrade to Mountain Lion Server (10.8.2) I have been wanting to store the Service Data on my Synology DS412+ NAS. The reasons for this are: greater storage capacity, speed (my NAS is fast) and reliability through RAID5.
The instructions provided by Apple Support point towards the Server App: go to Hardware > Server > Settings > Service Data (click Edit) and select the volume where you want to store your Service Data. However, this only lets me select the volume(s) of my Mac Mini or USB-connected volumes (if present). I would like to select a network share on my NAS, but mounted network volumes do not show up in the list.
FYI, I have connected my NAS to the LDAP service running on Mac Mini Server, so all users have access to it based on their network accounts.
I hope someone has pointers or even conclusive advice how to go about. Many thanks in advance.
    Jannem

Works only when the volume is mounted as iSCSI target :

  • Software Update Server + Caching Service Questions

    Hello everyone.
I'm currently trying to finish setting up our Caching service along with SUS and am running into some issues I hope to get some help with.  Our environment is configured as the following:
    --  OS X Server 3.1.1 with clients running OS X 10.8.5 and 10.9.2.
--  All machines are bound and receiving GP via an AD environment using Centrify.
--  GP pushes out the following two scripts to all machines:
         *  sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore restrict-store-softwareupdate-only -bool yes  -->  Setting which disables         all aspects of the App Store except for the Updates section
         *  sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://it0038-mmd.coveroregon.us:8088/catalogs.sucatalog          -->  Setting which redirects all of our machines to point to our SUS within our AD environment.
The problem I'm having is that I believe the Caching Service is working properly (at least with the 10.9.x clients) but it doesn't look like it is with the 10.8.5 clients; the same with SUS but for all clients.  I have two machines with clean images running 10.8.5 and 10.9.0 that I took on 03/05/14; after applying the images and going to Software Update before joining them to my AD environment the following shows as available:
    10.8.5. via Software Update  -->  Java for OS X 2013-005 1.0, Safari 6.1.3
10.8.5 via Caching  -->  Nothing appears.
10.9.0 via Software Update  -->  Digital Camera RAW Compatability Update 5.04, iBooks Update 1.0.1, iTunes 11.1.5, Java for OS X 2013-005 1.0, OS X Update Combined 10.9.2, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.7.1
10.9.0 via Caching  -->  Keynote, Numbers, GarageBand, Pages, iMovie, iPhoto
Once I join them to my AD environment and have the scripts run on the machines the following appears within Software Update on both machines:
    10.8.5 Clients  -->  Nothing appears!
10.9.0 Clients  -->  Keynote, Numbers, GarageBand, Pages, iMovie, iPhoto
It looks like Caching is working properly but I'm wondering why nothing shows up on my 10.8.5 clients but I'm guessing it's because the Java and Safari updates are with SUS?  I'm also guessing the other updates showing up on my 10.9.0 clients are specifically for Mavericks and hence why they're not also appearing on my 10.8.5 clients?  Of course the main issue here is that I can't get my machines to see SUS properly.
I'm happy to supply any logs or anything else that would help get this issue resolved.  It's really driving me nuts!  **** a Starbucks GC or other compensation is in it if someone can help me!
    Thanks in advance!

i found a solution for this issue when google maps shows you an empty map error message cannot reach server. Click on  the icon next to search and you are supposed to be presented with your profile, if not u will have an empty space. click on that space, then the "gear " Icon and logout.
restart your iphone then strat google maps again and log back in.
apparently this is happening when you change your google acount password or enble or disable 2 step verification.

I am not sure if data and business rules including Hierarchies can be extracted from the BO universe to SSAS.  Any thoughts and suggesstions.

  • HT4974 Changing service data storage to other server with RAID

We have an mac mini server 10.7.5 and an xserve with 10.5.8. with RAID. We want to change the service data storage location from the Lion server to the RAID of the xserve (Leopard). But this share is not available in the list. Any suggestions?

Very late but these might help...I hope you've moved on from the xserve by now though: Mac Pro is a beast!

  • Can't access a website I use every day...the server where this page is located isn't responding :-(

Hi, I am trying to access the website bloglovin.com which I access everyday (as part of my job) with no problems, however, the last 2 days I have not been able to get on to the site. After waiting for ages for it to load I eventually get the message ' the server where this page is located isn't responding'. I've tried to access from both my macs and my iphone and I get the same message on all of them. Is this a problem with my mac or their server?

Thanks for your reply. I did infact get it working earlier today by putting the IP address into the browser instead of the URL and it solved the problem, however, I now have the same problem again tonight. I've tried restarting the router and it hasn't made any difference. Putting in th IP address isn't working this time either!
