Temperatures from a Thermocouple

Hello All,
I have the PCI-4452 DAQ board. I would like to know if I could use this DAQ to read the temperatures from a Thermocouple. I have the amplifiers and also signal conditioning boards. I am working on LabVIEW-7.0.
Thanks
Nishant

Hello Nishant.
You can use the PCI-4452 to read temperatures from a thermocouple.  I would recommend measuring the input differentially.  The other advantage that the 4452 gives you are the software configurable input ranges.  Since you are measuring a thermocouple, as long as the temperature doesn't get too hot, you could use the .316 V range.  If you are measuring hotter temperatures, then you could use the 1 V range.  This will allow you to apply the 16 bits of resolution that the card provides across a smaller range and effectively increase your resolution even more.
In terms of getting started with a program to take these measurements, I would recommend finding a simple analog input example program in our NI Example Finder.  NI Example Finder provides numerous VI's that are pre-built for basic applications.  There are many VI's which use the DAQ drivers to acquire a voltage on a channel, which could be used for your application.

  • How do I use AI Temperature with multiple thermocouple types?

    Hi,
I am trying to read temperatures from thermocouples. I have the PXI-1112 module. I have 3 thermocouple types. Is there a way to use the AI temperature VI to process all thermocouples with a single wire connection? The VI has an input for thermocouple type, but does not accept arrays. How can I assign a different thermocouple type to each channel?
    Thanks

    Hello Villalro,
Are you using the DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi in your
application?  Below is a great example of
how to measure three different types of thermocouples all in the same task.  If you are still not able to create the task
correctly, you might try building it in a DAQ Assistant.  Once you are able to create the task
correctly in the DAQ Assistant, you can convert it into DAQmx code.  Right-click on the DAQ Assistant and then select
    Generate NI-DAQmx Code.

  • Wrong readings from a thermocouple

    hello
Im getting wrong readings from a thermocouple T type, installed on SCXI1100/1300 using MIO6070E
    Tareq

    Tareq,
first test: shortcut your TC input . Can you read the temperature of your input terminal (resp. of the tempsensor for the cold junction compensation)?
If no then you have a problem with your measurement setup.
If yes then the problem is you sensor (signal)
maybe to much noise due to ground loops or other EMC
do you use a extension cable? Right type ? Right polarity?

  • How do I use traditional NI-DAQ to find a temperature using a thermocouple?

I have seen examples using scxi modules and NI-DAQmx programming to find temperature using a thermocouple. For my application, I do not have a scxi module and my programming is in traditional NI-DAQ. I tried copy and pasting a NI-DAQmx application into my program and it did not work due to the traditional and mx conflict. My question now is how can I measure temperature using a thermocouple with Traditional NI-DAQ programming on a PCI6025E? Thank you.

I believe I posted a response for the same question here:

It looks a match for CSCsw41181 - however we don't see the following condition against any interface:
'Error disabled - SFP vendor not supported'
We tried reseating an SFP on this module but still no SFP vendor not supported condition.
Any other known bugs or do we have to treat it as a hardware issue?
    thanks

    Hi,
If it is related to CSCsw41181, a reload of the module would clear the condition.
If you can schedule a maintenance window to reload the module, that may be the least
intrusive next step (keep in mind that reloading the module will be disruptive to all the ports
    on that module).

  • Reading HDD Temperature from a RAID Array (nForce4)

    Hello all!
does anybody know of a program that can read the HDD temperature from a RAID Array?
I'm using Speedfan at the moment but the author doesn't seem to like nVidia at all, thus no support for us.

    I read:
    Quote
To sum it up : The nvidia raid controller doesn't support it .
That's not true really, because the nVidia utilities support reading the SMART status from the array. So it can be done, it's only matter of having the documentation or doing some research. However Speedfan's author doesn't like nVidia so he's not going to do anything, unless a doc is handed to him.
I wonder whether the linux community has worked it out

I'm sorry but Measurement & Automation Explorer is a National
Instruments software and knows only about National Instruments hardware.
The same applies to the DAQmx functions.
You will have to ask the manufacturer of your board for a config
    uration
utility for your hardware and also some LabVIEW drivers.

  • How can i use labview to acquire temperature from optical fibre sensors

i am trying to develop an application that would enable a user to acquire temperature data from optical fibre sensors and display the profile on a PC screen but i have got no clue of how to go about it

To provide some assistance, I will need to know:
    1) What type of output does the device produce? (volts, current, frequency ...)
    2) What type of conditioning does the signal require? (gain, filter, excitation, bias resistors ...)
    3) What type of calibration does the vendor provide? (how the output signal relates to temperature)
These characteristics have already been determined by the manufacturer (or the engineer who developed the interface electronics).
You have made no mention of the computer, OS, software, or hardware you will use. I could try to walk you through the selection process; however, I would probably take up too much space trying to discuss all of the possible combinations.
Could you provide some additional information about hardware and soft
ware you will use? I will look for a response.

  • Adjusting color temperature from footage from a D7?

Someone is going to give me footage shot with a Canon D7 and he told me he didn't set the White Balance, but instead changed the color temperature. I have next to zero experience with DSLR video. What does that mean in terms of fixing the WB in FCP?
    Thanks.

Fixing the WB will depend on how much it is off. If you push the correction too far you will introduce grain.
Transcode the footage to ProRes 422 through Log & Transfer. See Shane Ross' tutorial for tapeless workflows: http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
If you need to do a lot of correction use Color instead of FCP for best results.

  • How do I measure temperature from 4 RTDs simultaneously?

I am trying to set up a systerm that requires multiple temperature measurements. I am able to make one RTD measure. But if I mirror the same code to create two measurements, i am getting an Error - 50103 "the specified resource is reserved". I have just begun using LabVIEW, so any and all help is valuable. If there is already material available on this topic, would you direct me there please.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yup read Multi-channel Single Sample with a single task.
That being said this won't be "simultaneous".  That implies at the same instant in time all 4 will be read.  This just won't be true without a simultaneous sampling card.  Without that card your readings will likely be fraction of a milliseconds appart and for temperature that should be more than enough.  How much can temperature change in 0.001 seconds?  But for other signal types like trying to read a phase off set in a sine wave you will need a true simultaneous sampling card.

  • Reading temperature using 5508TC adac card

i am using 5508TC adac card to read the temperature from the thermocouples fitted in the pipelines. I developed the application. but i dont know exactly what it is reading. because the temp. is 29°F and it is displaying 0.01. and i also dont know what this 0.01 is? whether it is voltage or some garbage. how to read this temperature into the computer.
    thanks,
    kalpesh

    Hi,
The card that you are using is actually outputting voltage reading which is natural. Depending on the type of thermocouple (K, T, etc.) that you are using, you have to convert the voltage into corresponding temperature using the thermocouple co-efficients.

  • Using LabVIEW for temperature control with AMREL SPS200-50-A022 power supply

Hi, I hope someone can help me out. I'm an ME undergrad with pretty much no knowledge of LabVIEW. I am working a project which requires a temperature controller. Previously, we were using an SPS120-10 power supply from AMREL and a grad student wrote a LabVIEW VI which performed feedback temperature control. The VI would acquire temperature from a Benchlink which acquire the temperature from a thermocouple. The VI also monitor the output voltage & current and determine the power output and heater resistance from those values. When a desired temperature is set, the VI compares the actual temperature to the set temperature and adjust the voltage/current setting to achieve the desired temperature. The VI was designed to keep temperature deviation to within +/-0.5 deg C. I'm not sure of the data refresh rate, but it's on the order of seconds since the system has a small thermal mass and we're operating in the 800+ deg C range. When we were using the SPS120-10, the device used GPIB for communication with the PC. Due to higher power output demand for the heater, we switched to an SPS200-50, which only has an RS-232 port. First of all, I was wondering if someone could help me modify the VI so that it could communicate with the SPS200-50 through the serial port? In addition, the drivers for the SPS120-10 and SPS200-50 might be different. If modifying the VI to communicate through the serial port isn't enough, I would need to figure out where to modify the VI with the SPS200-50 drivers, which is provided by AMREL. If anyone would like, I can send you the VI files so that you can take a look at the block diagram and tell me where to modify it. I'm still not 100% certain I understand how to read LabVIEW block diagrams.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have looked over your vi. First of all you have to do some changes in the "ARSPS Initialize.vi" See picture.
The best way to check instrument communication is to send the *IDN? Command. The instrument will indentify itself in response to this command. The vi I have included is a labview example. Use this Vi to test your communication. Do not progress before this is working. The VI is also an excellent example on how to set up and close down RS232 communication.
The VI "Tfeedbackpowercontroller-nolvdt-Dinh.vi" looks OK so I guess it will work then your RS232 communication with the SPS200-50-A022 is working
    good luck
PS as mentioned before you will find all the RS232 details in the instrument manual
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)
