Template "main.dwt" won't update template pages
Hi there,
I'm super new to dreamweaver and I'm having a problem at the minute with the template. I've got my pages, etc, but I need to apply my logo image in the header sector and also an anchor link at the bottom and top of the main content body. So, my biggest problem really is that when I click the line, which highlight's the header, and make it into a "New Editable Region" and name it, like, "banner_image" or whatever and put my banner in there, and then click "Save All"; nothing happens.
I mean, it's worked before but I don't understand why it won't update my other pages into editable regions so I can add the banner to all pages. I would've tried to add it in manually, but stupid me, I realised that the headers weren't editable, still.
And I can't even update anything on the template page, really. I was wondering if there was a solution to this maybe?
I'm using CS4 at college, but I've been coming home at working at it on my laptop (both macs) with CS6.
Please help, I spent around five hours this morning in class pulling out my hair because my div tags were all over the shop. Boo!

Thanks for the quick respones! Honestly, I only used them because we were told to by our lecturer, which now I'm second guessing. Just for clarification, you would use Editable Regions on the child pages (i.e. not the template)? Here's the html

This is the html that is being used on my template, I tried to add the banner and save but that didn't do anything. I don't really know what I've done, do you see anything that might be stopping me from advancing?

Template won't update child pages
I have a website and my client wanted to add a sentence on all pages. I updated the template, when it asked to "update all" It 'updated successfully'. I haven't had a problem up to this point. It is in a template object so I can't update each page individually.
I had done a couple of things, added a sentence and changed the rollover color on the links. When I open the individual pages the rollover color updated but the sentence is not there.
When I click on the template in the Assets panel, it shows it correctly.
I am using CS5. I have also tried the site>advanced>recreate site cache. I have shut down everything and tried again, still doesn't work.The website is http://rcottonlawpc.com, in the template (which sows correctly in the assets panel) after the "areas of practice" it is supposed to say "click on your area of need". I had typed that in just before I changed the hover over links to change color, so they would be aged at the same time. The hover links work, but the test doesn't show up on the individual pages in the code, just in the template.

Change my dwt to dwt.php and update child pages
Hello,
I need to convert my dwt to php. My site is not that big at this time so I can manually change the links and extensions on the child pages if needed. How do I convert the template and assure it stays attached to the child pages? As a test, I used "save as" and saved the template as mytemplate. dwt.php. I edited a region of the template and saved. The content of the child pages didnt update at all. They dont seem to be attached.

Method 3 worked like a charm and saved a lot of time. Can I ask you an off topic question? I uploaded my site and things were good with current browsers I was shocked when I pulled up my website on an old pc with IE6. I really wish I hadn’t looked! Many images are very large, distorted, and misplaced. One example occurs in a div with the following class:

margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
border-radius: 20px;
padding-top: 10px;
padding-bottom: 10px;
I checked the properties. The image only has one class .form_container. New browsers display the image it’s actual 125px size, but IE6 stretches it to 100% of the div size. Looking at the css, I see did not specify any image properties. I have this problem with images all over the site. What is the most effective way to solve it?

Pages 5.0 won't update to Pages 5.2.2
Recently, I had to re-install Pages on my Mac.
Before that, I had been working with Pages 5.2.2.
However, when I re-installed the program from the App Store, it installed version 5.0 (an older one).
The problem is that the App Store seems to assume that it installed the 5.2.2 version, and so, I'm not being prompted to update the app from 5.0.
Given that old versions of Pages can't open files made on newer versions, I keep getting the "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document" message when opening files I was using before re-installing.
What should I do now?
FYI: I have never installed older versions of iWorks in this Mac (i.e.: 09 and 08).
Thank you for your comments!My solution made me feel stupid... I had the old icon on the dock, which loaded pages 4.2. But I also had the new icon in applications. Removed the old icon from the doc and added the new one to it, now running 5.2.2. I would be happy if I didn't feel so stupid.
Looks like updating puts another version of the programme into applications. -

I am making a website for somebody and for now I am looking
at it in a folder on my site. I am having trouble with the template
pages not updating when I make changes to the template. Would it be
because I have a folder named Template in my site and another one
within the folder where the other site is? If so, how can I fix it?

to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
will not
propagate)
5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
without also
uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
and child page
is broken
The latter problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced

Cache, and the five others can be fixed by just not doing
them. Have you

Flash no longer working when updating a template page
Recently switched from GoLive over to DW CS3. I've purchased Total Training for DW CS3 to help me with the transition.
I am wanting to create a template page to use for the entire site so that if I need to make a change to the template, it updates my entire website. When I upload the page, the flash image loads fine. The problem I'm having is if I reopen the template.dwt page and make a change, when DW updates the pages that are linked to the template, the flash image in the pages no longer work.
Here are my steps I've taken:
1. Created a page called index.html
2. Made an editable region called "main content" using Insert>Template Objects>Editable Region
3. Created a folder called templates in the root directory
4. File>Save as Template and called it home.html (for testing so I don't mess up my working index.html page)
5. File>New>Page from Template and selected my template.dwt file
6. Added content to the page.
7. File>Save As company-history.html
8. Upload index.html, home.html and company-info.html to the server.
Everything works like it is supposed to.
9. Open template.dwt and make a change.
10. Save page and DW updates the home.html and company-info.html pages
11. Upload to server
12. Flash image on those two pages stop working

I have just updated to Pages 5.1 and now the templares which I have saved do not displat the header and footer which they were saved with in the previous version. How can I have the header and footer included when I open a template?
That is becuase Pages 5.1 has numerous unnounced surprises for the unwary user. Among the surprises:
- it strips out images from headers and footers without warning
- it strips out bookmarks without wanring (yes, all those bookamrks you laboriously put into a document: poof! Gone.)
- it strips out alternating left/right margins, without warning.
There are many more suprises, as you'll see from glancing through these discussions. They fall into two main categories: things that are present in version 4.3 but that are missing in 5.1, things like
-mail merge
-meaningful Applescript/Services support
-non-contiguous text selection
-ability to set defaul zoom
-ability to see comments while editing
-ability to print comments
-ability to read RTF files
-ability to drag in hyperlinked ted from a browser
These about about 90 other features are gone.
Then there are the bugs. Hyperlinks do not reliably export to a PDF file any longer. There have been multiple problems with printing report. Some fonts place stray characters in the headers. Many reports of the program crashing, courrupting files, etc.
Fortunately for you, the previous version of Pages is still on your system. Export any documents you may have created or edited with Pages 5.1 (another great surprise: files created with version 5.1 cannot be read by any previous version of Pages: not just 4.3 but even 5.01!). Then trash 5.1 and use 4.3 until (unless?) it is stable and has a reasonably robust feature set. -
Issue with templates and updating .html pages in my website

I have taken over updating a website for the charity I work for. I have updated some eleements of the .dwt template page, however it does not seem to be updating the other .html pages for the website. I do not get the update pages box just a box saying 'You placed the editable region "breadcrumbs" inside a block tag. Users of this template will not be able to create new blocks in this region. Move the region outside the block tag if you want users to be able to do this" - I click OK and it saves the .dwt page, but does not update any other .html pages.I cannot answer your question(s), I have only hearsay experience, but I can offer some links on where to get information regarding Flash SEO...

I have had this problem for a while and finally opted to post

DW Template not updating live pages.
When i change the naviagtion bar on my template page, DW updates all the local pages without problem.
Now when i change and upload (just) the template file it does not change the pages on the remote site, it did used too though !
From what I have read I should be re-uploading all the local pages to the remote site after every change to the template.
I haven't had to do it this way so far, so can anyone tell me what as changed.
It all used to be so quick and easy i.e change template nav. bar - upload the DWT file - all remote pages updated.
But now having to upload every page after a small change to the template file is a real bore.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have no idea what "server side includes" is or how it works !!!. I will do some searching and see what I cand find out.

Templates not updating their pages
Hi all,
I created a Dreamweaver template with the main layout of my site with a few editable regions. I also made a few pages from that template, telling Dreamweaver to "update [the] page when [the] template changes". I got some new pages with the non-editable parts grayed out and the editable parts in full color. So far, so good. But when I change something on the template and save it, all of the pages based off of that template do not update with my change. I also cannot manually edit in the change because the region I edited in the template is grayed out, naturally, in the pages based off of the template.
How do I get the template's "child pages", so to speak, to update?

DylanOk, I figured it out. I had a duplicate copy of the template for some reason. One copy had children; the other didn't. I was editing the template with no children. When I deleted the childless template and began editing the correct one, I was presented with a wonderful little dialog box asking if I wanted to update the child pages.

Template changes won't update the dependent files
I am checking out a template file with its dependent files from my FTP server using Dreamweaver. I am making some changes, and saving it. It is supposed to prompt me to update the dependent files. But it doesn't. So none of the changes are applied to any of the files using the template. I also tried to update the pages manually by going to Modify>Templates>Update Pages.. But DW is looking into a different path to find the templates, rather than looking into the folder where the server is set-up. What is the best way to make this work?
Is your site properly defined in Site > Manage Sites?
Do you have the Template.dwt file in a Templates folder in your local site?
Are you sure this is the right template for this project?
Do you have all the child pages in your local site folder?
It's important to understand that Templates do nothing on the web server. They are proprietary to DW and only work on your local site files.

Updating child pages from a template in CS4
I built a site that uses one template. Everything was going along fine I'd make a change to the template and I was able to update all the child pages. I made changes to the template yesterday and nothing updates. I try using the update the site... I choose the files that use and the one template I have and none of the pages update. I've tries re-saving the template file as a template and still nothing updates.
It has never immediately done an automatic update to the pages. It always seems to be a while before the update these pages pallette comes up. And again sometimes it will update all the pages, but most of the time not.
I've done a search of the discussions to see if I could find a solution, before I posted this. The ones I found do not have a solution that works for me.
So does anyone know what to do?
On a related issue... I usually create a page save the page to the site folder and then apply the template. I have tried to create the page from the template, but the graphic in the background of the container div doesn't show up. I usually have to then apply the template to the newly created page to get that to show up. So what's up with this?

Try saving the page to the site after creating it, even though the graphic doesn't show up. It should appear when you save it.
Just for drill, here is my "Seven Common Mistakes" post - do any of these cover your situation?
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
5. Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
7. Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you done any of those?

Making DW CS4 Nested Template Head Region Update to Pages
Using DW CS4...
So I made a template, called main_template, and obviously it has an editable region named head. Now from main_template I made the nested template locations_template. Now I have code that I put in the head region of locations_template. This code does not propagate out to pages created from locations_template. I can't place an editable region within the head section in the nested template. How do I solve this problem?> 1st: "Error accessing file "...here appears the file

This usually means you have other files open that may belong
to templates
not in the current site. Make sure that you have other such
files closed
and you won't get this error.
