Templates background layer missing after burning

I use DVD Studio pro 4.0 and did a couple fine Dvds of my film projects. Now when I use a template from the palette and encode and burn the Dvd, an error mesage comes up in the log menu: THE LAYOUT WILL NOT BE INCLUDET IN YOUR DISC" and the transistion will, but not the background .... Help!
I have trashed the .plist file, nothing helps, what did I do wrong?

THE LAYOUT WILL NOT BE INCLUDET IN YOUR DISC"
That is normal message
Try turning on software encoding in the DVD SP prefs instead of hardware, not sure how old your G4 is or what video card, but that is one thing to try

  • Template - background image missing

Hi I'm sorry to be back but I have another problem that I don't seem to be able to solve.  I have looked at similar posts online,  but don't seem to have found the answer.
I have created a template from Dreamweavers blank templates.  I have made ONLY TWO CHANGES to the blank template.  I've added a background image, and removed the background colour from the .body element. I'm hoping this will help isolate my mistake.
When I create a new page from this template the background image does not display.  I've noticed that the image path is changed in the child page - whereas the template displays the relative path, the full path is given in the child.  I don't know if this is part of the problem?
The problem occurs both when I preview the site through a browser, as well as online.
I know I should be using templates for site-building, so need to know what I'm doing wrong here.  Many thanks, and please remember that I'm a novice so put it very simply so that I can grasp what your saying!

    Thanks!

I just tried a different approach.  Created a new site, through Site Manager.  Created an new HTML paged and did Save as Template.  I then added an image ( which is stored in the images folder in the site) as a background through Page Properties.  I saved and closed the template, and did File, New Page from Template.  The image did not display, and the path to the image was changed.  Here is the code.

I'm obviouly missing something along the line.  It can't be a glitch in CS5.5 because it would be known by now!  But I've tried so many different files and methods now I'm totally confused.
Next step, seeing if I can edit it in Notepad, and how that afffects things, and also digging out a previous version of Dreamweaver and see what happens there.  Will let you know!

  • Part on video missing after burn.

Hi...long story short, I hope. I made a movie in iMovie which has a video clip (from a camcorder) that shows an actual "spark" on film in slow motion. (I want to see the "spark" and I do see the "spark" in iMovie.) However, when I burned the video to DVD and played the DVD, the "spark" was gone. Not only was it gone on the DVD, but I went back into iMovie, and it was also gone there. Have any idea why? May it have anything to do with "Render and Proceed"? -Another question...do you have to "Render" or should you always "Render"? Any help is greatly appreciated.-Kim

    Hi Kim
There are two things I NEVER use in iMovie - any version:
    • Share/Export to iDVD - from within iMovie. Rendering is in some cases harmful
    • Never empty Trash in iMovie (on Desktop is OK) - Just a trouble maker.
    To make my DVDs I:
    • When done in iMovie - Close it
    • Find the movie project icon (With a star on it)
    • Open iDVD
    • Import (or just drop) the movie project icon (With a star on it)
Now iDVD will do the rendering - and so much better.
THEN: I do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
This I test with Apple DVD-player.
Sparkle still there - OK - two options:
    • Burn with iDVD (recalculating) (burn speed can be set in iDVD08 only)
    • Burn with Apple Disk Util tool - or Roxio Toast™ if You got this and then
set burn speed down to eg x1 or as low as possibly - DVD will play better.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Does anyone know why the delete and hide options are still missing in the crop tool option bar, despite having changed the background layer to a regular layer?  Thanks!

Does anyone know why the delete and hide options are still missing in the crop tool option bar, despite having changed the background layer to a regular layer?  Thanks!

    "flying blind."
"You totally lost me there, and I have no clue as to what your last question means."
"I think I now know what you mean."
Evidently language is of difficulty for you.
Perhaps the Oxford dictionary can provide you with your much needed “sensible, meaningful” content.
According to the Oxford dictionary, a dialogue is to "Take part in a conversation or discussion to resolve a problem."  It also states that a dialogue is "A discussion between two or more people or groups, especially one directed toward exploration of a particular subject or resolution of a problem.”
That IS the inherent nature of posts. A conversation is reciprocation.  Questions, followed by more questions.
It is not difficult to understand.
"how to ask your questions correctly for quicker and better answers" is best actualized by simply asking.
Is it a Mac; is it not, etc.
That IS sufficient.  That IS "quicker and better answers[ing]."  That IS what a dialogue IS.   And that IS actually what is "sensible," "meaningful," and "detailed."
The Oxford dictionary can best delineate and elucidate your lack of comprehension in what ACTUALLY “meaning” is.
As well as what is "sensible" AND "detailed."
By the way, am I being repetitive.
Still confused.  Let the experts that do not require much explanation respond with "quicker and better answers" for both "sensible, complete" responses." They are not "lost," "blind," or provide "incomplete" drivel.

  • Button Rollovers not Appearing after burning

    Hello,
Need some help. I created a DVDSP project with multiple menus and multiple tracks. Everything has been connected correctly, along with using a standard Overlay (white when you rollover, yellow when you select). All end jumps are fine, in fact in Simulator, it's picture perfect.
The problem is when I burn the DVD and test, I cannot see where my activate button is. I cannot see either on a Mac in DVD Player or in a stand alone DVD Player.
Is there a setting I'm missing to make the tracks (buttons) viewable in each Menu?
For example, Menu 2 has 6 tracks. When I select Menu 2, there is no white box to tell me where I am.
In Simulator it's a snap, work perfectly. After burning it's guess where you are...
    Please help!
    Thanks
    Dan

OK - so you have the background as m2v - that's fine. Did you remember to create an overlay file? It is this that will give colour to the rollovers...
A dash, underline, arrowhead, dot, splodge or whatever is normal to see on menus as buttons are selected. These shapes are in the overlay (actually a part of the subpicture stream) and are shown when the button is selected. At all other times they are transparent. In your case, if you don't want an underline, you need to copy the text in the background footage into an overlay file.
An overlay is simply a still image (usually a pict, not JPG - they are not good to use) which is the same size as your video format (720x480, etc) It is mostly white and only has the shapes that you wish to appear as the rollover - in your case some text. You can either do it in grayscale or use colour - the colours get 'mapped' in DVDSP and for ease, use grayscale.
To line up the words you want, take a still form the background movie and use this as a guide in photoshop. Hide that layer when exporting your pict file.
When you import into DVDSP and add it to your menu you will then be able to colour the text as you roll over it. Without an overlay file you are left using the built in text tools, and yes, they can look very blocky. IMO, by far the best look is achieved when you don't use text as he highlight, but use some other shape instead, usually alongside the text somehow. It's a personal preference, and I'm sure you've got ideas of your own!

  • After burning a audio CD, the Create LightScribe Label window does not show

I found burning a LightScribe label after burning with iTunes directions. It says that iTunes works with Sonic Express Labeler. After burning the CD, a Create LightScribe Label window is supposed to appear. It does not. Why? Help!!
    HP Pavilion a1220n   Windows XP
    HP Pavilion a1220n   Windows XP

No one answered his question. On HP it says:
Creating a LightScribe label with iTunes
iTunes works with Sonic Express Labeler to conveniently burn labels on a data CD or audio CD from iTunes. The playlist you create in iTunes to burn a disc is automatically imported into Express Labeler so that this information is available for you to use on your LightScribe label.
NOTE: To use Express Labeler from iTunes, the data or music tracks in the playlist your are using must fit on a single CD.
Click Start, All Programs, iTunes, and then click iTunes again.
Burn a data or audio CD with iTunes. When the burning process is complete, click Yes on the Create LightScribe Label window.
Make sure that Disc Label is selected in Step 1: Select Project.
Select a label template by clicking the left or right arrows next to Layout and choosing a layout.
NOTE: The various layouts show different amounts of playlist information. Some show only the playlist title, others show the playlist title and track names. You can edit the playlist information by clicking Disc Title to open the Edit Disc Title window.
Click Tracks to display the Edit Tracks window. Click New to display the Track window. Enter text to identify the first track or file (you can optionally enter artist and date, or length), and then click OK.
Repeat step 5 for each track or file on the disc.
Click the left or right arrows next to Background to select design elements for the disc. The selections you make are previewed in the disc window.
NOTE: If you use a color image, LightScribe burns it as a greyscale (monochrome) image.
When you are satisfied with the appearance of your label design, insert the LightScribe disc (label-side down) into the disc drive tray and then click Print.
From the Disc Label menu, select LightScribe 12cm Disc.
Select a Contrast Level and then click OK to begin burning the label. The estimated time to complete the label is displayed, along with a progress bar. You can continue to work on your PC while LightScribe is burning the label.
NOTE: A sudden bump or vibration of the computer during the labeling process may affect the quality of the label.
His question is why this does not happen. What version of iTunes are you using? Is an upgrade to the newest version needed? I woul dlik eto hear form others who use lightscribe with itunes and how they do it.

  • Problem: DVD won't loop after burning in iDVD '08

    I need help.
I made a slideshow in Keynote '08 and sent it directly to iDVD (iLife'08) for burning. I wanted to burn it to DVD and have it show continuously (loop) at a kiosk.
I selected the presentation and had set iDVD (Advance Menu) to "Loop". The loop icon showed up on the "map menu" for the selected presentation.
As I read in other forums, I also set the "button" for Play Movie with a TRANSITION.
After burning and playing it on two DVD players, the DVD won't automatically loop. It just freezes after it completes one play.
I also did the "REPEAT" button on the DVD Player Remote and still won't loop.
I went back to iDVD and removed the Loop option and burned DVD. I was hoping that I can play it back with just setting the DVD player itself to REPEAT disc. Again, the DVD won't repeat or loop.
I also converted the keynote presentation to quicktime first then moved it to iDVD for conversion and burning to DVD. The results are the same above.
I need to know if there is a step I am missing or a procedure not followed properly.
    Thanks in advance!

Check these instructions from iDVD Help to see if you missed anything.
+_Here are ways to turn looping on or off_:+
+Double-click a slideshow button on the DVD menu to open the slideshow editor. Click the Settings button and select the “Loop slideshow” checkbox.+
+Select a slideshow icon in map view, and then press Command-I to open the Slideshow Info window. Select the “Loop Slideshow” checkbox, and then close the window.+
+Click a movie or slideshow button on the DVD menu, or a movie, slideshow, or autoplay movie icon in map view, to select it, and then choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow.+
+When looping is turned on, a checkmark appears next to the command in the menu. To turn off looping, select it again to remove the checkmark.+
+To turn looping off for a background movie on a menu, open the Menu Info window. With your pointer over the menu (but with no buttons or text items selected), press Command-I. Move the Loop Duration slider to zero.+
If you have followed these directions and are still having the same problem, give this basic remedy a try. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
Do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
If the problem persists, do the following for troubleshooting purposes. While working on your project in iDVD, create a disk image. Go to File>Save as disk image. This will create a file that can be viewed on your computer's DVD player. You will be able to see just how your project will work when viewed on a regular DVD player. You will be able to catch errors and correct them before burning and possibly wasting a disk. If the disk image plays correctly, then you know that the encoding is being done correctly. This would point to problems with the burn process. If there are problems with the disk image, then the issue is with encoding.
    I hope this helps.

  • Templated vector layer

Hi All, Templated vector layer is not working for me. (I mean the demo apps C15 and C16) The vector layer, customers  doesn't show up. I checked the theme in mapbuilder and it works fine there. Mapviewer: 11.1.1.7.1 OS: Windows 7 SP1 - 64-bit DB: Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 32-bit Browser: Chrome,Firefox, IE

This is a bug in the demo code (not in the parametrized vector layer support). The referenced style (M.SMALL CIRCLE) is missing in the user_sdo_styles view for mvdemo.
The solution is any one of the following:
    - Add a style called "M.SMALL CIRCLE"
    - Modify the theme definitions to use M.CIRCLE or M.STAR or some other existing style instead.
    - Modify the demo code to use one of those (m.circle or m.star) styles instead. To do that add the following lines of code after the VectorLayer is created,
    OM.style.StyleStore.getServerSideStyle("mvdemo", "m.circle", {url:baseURL, callback:
                                                              function(aStyle){layer.setRenderingStyle(aStyle);}});
    after
    layer = new OM.layer.VectorLayer("layer1", {def:{type:OM.layer.VectorLayer.TYPE_PREDEFINED,
    and click on RUN.

  • Lightroom does not create a background layer when editing in Photoshop - on Mac.

Thought this was a Photoshop problem.  When I select a portion of an image in Photoshop (which has come from Lightroom) and press Delete, it no longer brings up the Fill dialog; it just deletes the pixels.
After some discussion on the Photoshop forum, I see that now, when I tell Lightroom "Edit in Photoshop", it creates a file which does not have a Background layer, and this causes the Delete key to act differently.  This was not the case several weeks ago, but has just started to happen.  Is there any adjustment I can make to the "Edit In" settings to get a Background layer in Photoshop?
    JK

You must have changed a setting in Photoshop because  Lr has no influence on how Photoshop treats the background layer.
There is nothing you can do in Lr to change this behavior of Photoshop.
What happens in Photoshop is this: For some reason the image is opened with transparent background.Such an image does not have a background layer and the layer at the bottom does not have the constraints of a regular background layer.
I am not aware of any command or script in Photoshop that would automatically do this on opening a file.
Try this: Reset your Workspace (>Window >Workspace). If that doesn't help I'd suggest to ask on the Photoshop forum why your Photoshop opens an image with transparent background.
You could also try to re-install Photoshop, supposedly this would reset any hidden settings that are causing this.

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • After burning CD, won't play

After burning a CD on my Emac, it will not play on another device. I receive the "ding" letting me know that it burned OK. Am I missing a step after the "ding"? Am I burning incorrectly? Thanks for any help you can give.

    awsmith,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can you provide a little more information? What kind of file(s) did you burn, and on what device are you trying to play the CD? Does the other device recognize the CD and fail to open the files, or is the CD not seen at all?
You may also want to try another blank CD, especially one from a different spindle or package of discs. Blank CDs can degrade over time, especially in less-than-ideal strorage conditions (see the NIST document Care and Handling of CDs and DVDs), and some brands and batches of blank discs are markedly less quality than others (while written in terms of DVD discs, the manufacturer rankings in Blank DVD Media Quality Guide are useful).

  • Corrupted Background Layer - Any way to rescue this project??

So I've been heartbroken by Photoshop once again. I was three days' work into an enormous t-shirt design, probably the best painting I'd ever almost finished.
But I went in to continue work on it, and all I found was this:
Every other layer is in perfect condition, except the background layer, which was the bulk of the piece. I know I should have backed it up, but is there any way to rescue what I've lost?? I'M DESPERATE!

I don't have an answer for you to fix it. I have disciplined myself, due to this sort of thing, to save different titles of a project e.g. project1 project2 etc.. after each day so at least when this sort of thing happens there is a back up. I also back-up my back-ups - not meaning to lecture, but, time is money.
Have you tried to test the file on a different version of PS? try a trial of a CS6.....How does it look in bridge?

  • Is it possible to repair a damaged file which turned into a black background layer?

I was working on a file about 4 hours and i was saving every 10 mins, then suddenly the power cut off and i opened the file and found it a black background layer.
    Is there any solution?

If you were saving the file every ten minutes, then a power-outage would not make you lose anything more that what happened since the last save. It is possible that the file was damaged on the hard drive by the power-outage and it has nothing to do with Photoshop at all.
I do want to point out that Photoshop does not have an auto-save function. There is an Auto-recovery function which will create a sort of back-up of your file every 10 minutes (default setting). This is not simply a copy of your file, nor is it saving over you original file. Instead, this is a special version of the file that is intended to open in Photoshop after a crash. However, the power-outage may have damaged this file (as described above).
Check the file size, if it is very small, that would tell us there is no image information in it to recover. We could always take a look. But if it opens in Photoshop without error, it sounds like the file is fine but doesn't have any changes from when it was nothing but the black background.

  • Composite photo and background layer question

I would appreciate some help with a workflow problem when dealing with a composite, selection and background layer. My normal workflow is to start of in LR4, and if need be do an "edit in, CS6". I am relatively new to CS6, so bear with me.
I have some portraits I want to put different backgrounds on. I am using Matt Kloskowski's Layers book and Composites books written for CS5. I also have Martin Evening's book on CS6 and the workflow for doing a composite is pretty much the same. The catch is that none of them start off in LR with the original photo. They all describe the following basic workflow pattern:
    1. Bring up the main photo in CS using "edit in CS6"
    2. Change the photo from a background layer to a regular layer
    3. Make a selection.
    4. Make a layer mask
    5. Refine the edge
    6. open the background photo you want to place the selection in (steps 4 and 5 are sometimes reversed so you are refining the edge on the new background)
    7. copy and paste the original photo onto the new background
    8. Refine the edge if not already done
    9. Save and exit back to LR with the composite
If I follow this procedure I run into a couple of problems:
    1. My backgrounds are in a separate folder on my computer and not cataloged in LR. So, if I open them in photoshop and paste the original photo onto that image, LR will not know that I want to take the new composite back to the original folder along with the protrait. If I go to save the image, CS want to take the composite back to the folder on my computer where I got the background from. I tried playing around and tried renaming the composite similar to the naming convention I use for my photos in LR and then importing it into that folder after I have saved it in the background folder. This had some unintended consequences. First, I had trouble renaming the composite photo. For some reason Windows kept plugging in an old photo file name from one of my photos taken two years ago. After I discovered that  I could work around it. But after the first composite finally got into LR, when I tried to do it again, the import button on the left side of my LR went dark and I couldn't import the second composite photo I was working on. This could have been a coincident and unconnected LR glitch, but I have never had that problem before.
So...I was thinking of modifying the workflow to the following:
    1. Bring up the main photo in CS using "edit in CS6"
    2. Change the photo from a background layer to a regular layer
    3. Make a selection.
    4. Make a layer mask
    5. Refine the edge
    6. open the background photo you want to place the selection in
    7. copy and paste the new BACKGROUND onto the original photo
    8. Move or make the new background layer THE "Background" layer
    10. Refine the edge
    11. Save and exit back to LR with the composite
I am envisioning this will ensure that my composite will wind up back in LR because it is still keeping track of the original photo which now has gotten the new background, regardless of what the file name of the new background was.
Does any of this make sense? Does any one know a better way of handling this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Jim

Yes, it makes sense and I think you should go ahead and try it.

  • Menu background blacks out after 10-15 seconds

Using Encore in Production Premium CS3 and simple menus from library, suddenly menu backgrounds are disappearing after 10-15seconds.When running "preview" before burning a disc, things appear normal. Project check reveals no items. Buttons, titles, and audio continue to play normally against a black background. These exact menus, with audio, have worked on 50 different projects over the past two years, but crashed today! I have not changed any hardware or software, so this problem is perplexing, annoying and time consuming. I have tried several different menus, HD, widescreen, animation and no animation.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.....

The duration is whatever audio track I've selected, i.e. 1 min 59sec.
The "hold forever" box is greyed out and I can't figure out how to cjange that, so I cannot check the box.
    Loop Point is 00;00;00;00.
The thing that puzzles me is I'm using a library menu (NTSC_Television Menu) which I've used successfully about a month ago. Preferences are all default and I can't really think of anything I've fooled with in the program.
Is an uninstall/reinstall of Production Studio Premium likely to help? Hate to do that since it takes so long.
    TIA
