Terminal.app showing multiple "Open URL" entries on Command-Click

If I right-click or command-click on text in Terminal.app that is a URL, for a long time, I had two entries in the context menu that would pop up, both saying "Open URL". Recently, this changed to three entries. All three entries do exactly the same thing, namely, opening the url in my default browser.
Is there a way to fix this?

Sounds like the LaunchServices database needs rebuilding. Use this one liner and then restart:
*/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user*

  • Multiple "Open URL" items in terminal right-clicik context menu

Since http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2068339 was closed without anyone apparently even bothering to reply to it, I'm reviving it here - unlike the previous asker, I'm rather more resilient and determined.
The terminal right-click context menu has 3 - 4 "Open URL" items on it, even on terminal tabs where there is no URL anywhere. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
    Thank you.

Thank you very much Linc. After allowing the command to run and restarting the terminal, that seems to have had the desired effect. +2 for you!

  • No app found to open URL

Anyone find a resolve to this issue?

Performed a phone system reset and that seemed to work.  Don't have google chrome and such.  Everytime I would try to open a website, I would type the search in google and try to goto the website and thats when the "no app to open URL" would come up at the bottom of the screen.  After the reset everything was fine.
    Thanks

  • FF 14.0.1: Bookmark with java-script function to build and open URL. Works unless clicked when already in a new blank tab, then does nothing. Why?

On 14.0.1 I have a bookmark which calls a java script function to prompt for input, build and call a dynamic URL. This has worked fine until last update of FF. It works fine if I right click and select Open in a New Tab, or new window. It works fine if I am in any other website and click it. It only does not work, if I open a new blank tab or window, and then click it from inside that new tab. Then it does nothing. Same happens whether the "New tab Page" is displayed or not. Same happens in safe mode.
    Bookmark properties:
    javascript:void(str=prompt(%22Document%20Number:%22,%22%22));if(str){location.href=%22https://somecompany.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=%22+escape(str).split(%22%20%22).join(%22+%22);}

I searched for a recent thread on this but couldn't find it.
This may be the result of a security restriction on some "about" pages such as about:home and about:newtab.
Did you blank the new tab page using the little button or did you actually change the new tab page to about:blank? In case you need steps for testing:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter the desired value:
    ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    ''(ii) Blank tab''
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    ''(iv) Any other page''
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page

  • Unwanted minuscule ø in terminal app

Since some time (probably since I migrated from my PB Titanium) terminal app shows a strange behavior. When typing or otherwise displaying special sequences of characters. E.g., when typing "o/" the miniscule ø is displayed (I hope this is displayed properly in the posting) like when tying "Option-o" on the keyboard. A similar effect happens when typing "l/". This is especially annoying when displaying directory paths.
I have tried to play around with the terminal settings without success. Any idea why this happens and how to get rid of this "feature"
    Regards
    Stefan

You should have a look at the input managers in your private or the system-wide library.
It's most likely the font. Some earlier threads I found:

  • "open with" menu suddenly showing multiple copies of all apps - HELP!!

Recently, the "open with" menu that pops up when I right click a file on my desktop has started showing multiple copies of all applications, and it's getting WORSE! It started out a few weeks ago doing this with one extra copy of only one application, but now there many, many copies of all apps - different numbers of copies depending on the app.
This is somehow related to the fact that I have an external G-Drive USB connected, which I am using as my backup drive. I copied everything onto this drive using SuperDuper. When the G-drive is connected, I get the error message below  if I pick the "wrong" copy of an app. When I eject the G-Drive, I STILL see multiple apps, but get no error message, and any one of the app copies I select will open properly.
    IMac G5, PPC, OSX 10.4.11
    Thank you for any help!

I'm glad you found a solution, please mark your post with a green correct, so that others can see the solution as well.

  • My iPad mini won't update my apps.  I have closed all open apps, done multiple resets but I show 24 updates and when I hit the update, the screen is blank.

My iPad mini won't update my apps.  I have closed all open apps and done multiple resets.  I hit update and the screen is blank, even though the bubble shows 14 to update.

If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this. It is a workaround only until then.

  • I was sent a url. Instead of Safari, it opened blank app store window; today, app shows 1 update available: GLIDE. Never downloaded it, not showing in settings?

I received an a text including a shrunk URL.  I unshrunk the URL, www.glide.com.  I then pressed link in message.  Instead of opening Safari, a blank App store window opened.  Later I noticed an update available in the app store.  The update was for GLIDE video messaging app.  I NEVER INSTALLED IT, and IT DOES NOT SHOW UP IN SETTINGS.  any ideas???

If you are completely confident that you didn't hide it, then you purchased those with different apple id. If you completely confident that you purchases with same apple id then you have hidden it. One of the other or you are speaking about a miracle. While miracles are possible they are not very likely. Remember

  • Right-click "Open with" shows multiple options of the same app.

Just bought this computer less than a month ago, everything is perfect except for this little bug that seems to be getting worse and worse.
Any idea whats happening here? I'm completely stumped!
    MacBook Pro
    Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)

That indicates a corrupt LaunchServices database, which controls that stuff. Launch the Terminal app in /Applications/Utilities/, copy & paste in this one-liner (ensure that there are no spaces in the first line, the forum's software sometimes displays
Launchse   rvices, instead of Launchservices, in the window), hit the return key, quit Terminal, and restart:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

  • App Store consistently fails to update apps - but shows multiple installs

The App Store app on my MBP running OS 10.9.2 consistently fails to install software updates, and shows multiple installations in the Updates "log". I've had to reinstall the OS to get to 10.9.2 after multiple failures (with corresponding entries in App Store Updates and incessant hanging at install), and had to troll around the Apple Support Communities to find a URL for Safari 7.0.3 after it also showed falsely as having updated.
Anyone have an idea about what is going on?  Missing good old Software Update.

    Hi Eskimo Boy,
I have he *EXACT* same issue. I even reinstalled Mavericks completely from scratch and tried TONS of other things.
What I tried so far is (incomplete list):
Set up new user and tried to update => failed.MAS consistently crashes when launched under the new user. => no solution but rather an additional problem => failed.
Tried to update in safe mode => failed.
Tried to reinstall Mavericks => failed.
Tried to reinstall Mavericks and migrate all user data from Time Machine backup => failed.
    Tried PRAM reset => failed.
Even tried the highly overrated check permissions => failed.
Whatever I try, I just can't update iBooks from 1.0 to 1.0.1 and Safari from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3. If you have any solution, then please let me know.
    Cheers, Paul

  • Receiving error: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'MFSQLiteException', reason: 'inserting mailbox url' abort() called terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException

Today, I received this error when I re-added two email accounts that are tied in to my domain. The error is: "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'MFSQLiteException', reason: 'inserting mailbox url' abort() called terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException"
Two days ago, at my wits end with email issues, I googled how to Reset Mail.app and followed the recommendation found here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2266399?tstart=0
    That's. all. I've. done.
What should I do correct the error I'm receiving when adding my email accounts?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Terminal.app won't return window to default size with open tab

I regularly have multiple Terminal.app windows open with multiple tabs open in them. If I have a window open with no tabs, I can drag scale the window to whatever size is convenient for me at the moment, then use the Window > Return to Default Size function to make it go back to my default size configured in the app preferences.
The problem comes when I have a window open that is already scaled to a different size and I open a tab. This resets the default size to whatever size the window was when the tab was opened. The result is that if I use the Window > Return to Default Size function, it does nothing, unless the window has been scaled again, then it resets the window size to what it was when the tab was opened, not the default size configured in my preferences.
Is this a feature, or a bug? Is there a way I can make it retain the default size dimensions even when I've opened a tab?

I would solve the problem by resizing after closing the added tab. However, your inquiry is really beyond my abilities. Questions do get answered in these forums; sometimes not, in which case resorting to Apple Support _may_ resolve the issue. Have you checked out posting under "Mac OS X Technologies"? I believe there are Unix sections to that forum. Good luck.

  • Photoshop 12.0.4 update - multiple open windows show wrong image

I recently updated all my CS5 apps to the latest version. Photoshop (12.0.4) is now showing odd behaviour with multiple open windows.
If I select View > Arrange > Float All in Windows (or drag a tabbed window into a separate floating window) the images displayed show the same image or they mirror each other at random. For instance, if I have two images showing an apple and an orange and float them in separate windows, sometimes both windows show an orange. If I click on the apple image, both images become apples. Click again, and the clicked image toggles (so apple.jpg shows an orange, and vica versa). This also affects new documents.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Deleting the Photoshop Settings File.
    2. Running Disk Utility permissions and disk checks.
    3. Booting from a backup clone on an external hard drive running Photoshop 12.0.2 – everything’s fine.
One possible cause of the problem is that I’m not running an up-to-date system. I’m still on 10.6.2 (for various reasons: I’d read too many reports of problems with updates, so I decided to stay put; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but that could be coming back to bite me). Before I take the plunge and update to 10.6.8, can anyone suggest some basic troubleshooting or repair procedures I could try.
    Thanks
    Jim
    [Mac OS X 10.6.2, Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 x64, NVIDIA GeForce 9400]

Yes! Switching it off and back on again seems to have fixed it.
    Many thanks!
Incidentally, are there any major issues around CS5 and 10.6.8 that anyone knows of? I know that's a rather broad question but I wonder how many people are holding back on earlier OS versions.

  • Terminal.app doesnt open windows

When I run the terminal.app it starts but without a window and I cant open one. In the log console gets this error:
Terminal: *** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
When I checked the Terminal->Preferences it get stuck at the "Profiles" tab until the program is killed.
    What has changed/been missing?

    Guess you need to reinstall.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:
Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
