Terminal Command to re-hide top level 'private' folder?

I've forgotten the Terminal Command for re-hiding the 'private' folder (top level of Snow Leopard). I have just restored the system from Time Machine and the private folder tends to reappear. Can anybody help? I tried "chflags hidden /private" but it didn't work. Cheers.

/private is owned by root, so you should try that command with sudo in front of it.

  • Changing permissions on a top level public folder WITHOUT affecting the folders underneath it in Exchange 2007

    Hello everyone,
We have a pubilc folder we woudl like to lockdown to just the IT techs, but we want eveything below to function as it normally has been.  We have several folders underneath this folder with various permissions for our end users that we dont want changed.
How would you change the permissions on a top level folder without affecting (propagating) the folders underneath it?  Also, If I go into the "Administration" tab of the properties of the top level Public Folder I see an option to
make this folder available to: "All users with access permission" or "Owners only". Would it be as simple to select "Owners only" here or will that restrict the down level folders as well to just the owners?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi,
You use PFDAVAdmin to customize your permission level for mailbox and public folder. This is good tool which helped me a lot in most of the permission issue for PF and Mailbox. Follow the below article for more detail of PFDAVAdmin Tool

  • Hide Top level navigation if user assigned only one role

    Hi,
I would like to hide the top level navigation if user assigned with only one role.
I can create role based rule to show desktop using Master rule collection, but is it possible by doing to with role count.
If user has multiple roles show desktop1 else show desktop2

not sure if this possible ,you may check feasibility of creating  a application which checks user role count and if role count is = 1 load the Portal url (URL alais) which had TLN iview invisible in the same window else do nothing and load the portal with the desktop which has tln.
Put the application in framewrk page which has TLN visible.
create a URL alias and create a desktop -framework page which dont have TLN ,assign this desktop to this URL alias in rule collection set its priority before user conditions check in rule collection so that it has high priority before user or group check in rule collection.
you can create a poc in sandbox and check if it wiorks?

  • How to hide Top Level Navigation?

    Hi,
I created a quicklink for an iview.
I am able to call the iview from IE window using the quicklink.
But it displays the top level navigation (Company Logo, Welcome message, Logoff, Role tabs,...).
    How do I hide this?
    Thanks
    Sundar

    Hi Vinit,
Your solution is working when I clicked the preview button in iview edit window.
But when I try to open the iview using Quicklink with external IE window, it shows the MastHead, TLN.
It is not hiding the MastHead and TLN.
    Thanks

  • Terminal Command for "Folders On Top" in Mountain Lion

Looking for a terminal Command that will place all "Folders On Top", even in sub-folders. The utility I was using on Lion does'nt work on ML anymore.

Looks like to me there has been a recent update to TotalFinder.  Claims to support 10.8, now. See
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/33373/totalfinder
I misunderstood your questions.  I thought you wanted to display the files in the Terminal.  You want to change the way the finder displays files.

  • Can we hide filter in Search Master agreements standard top level query?

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to hide flter in standard Search Master Agreements top level query.  See below screen shot
I have an idea how to delete filter in query but when i have added that query to top level navigation i don't have any idea.
So i want to hide Business Unit & Region filter in Search Master Agreement query when it is in top level navigation.
If anyone have idea please share with me how to hide.
    Thanks,
    Lava

    Hi Lava,
It is not a filter but this a Standard field which is coming from the Master Agreement.
So, you cannot hide or even delete any field.
But if it is a custom field you can hide it by inactivating the respective field in Extension Defination.
Please let me know if you need any assistance.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

  • Show/Hide tabs in top level navigation of a role based on assigned services

    Hi,
I have an interesting requirement. I have created an overview page in abap web dynpro which has links to various services.
Based on the r3 roles assigned to the user, we need to show/hide the services in the overview page and top level navigation.
I can show/hide the views in the overview page but the links on top level navigation are created in the portal frontend by creating worksets, iviews, etc.
Is there a way I can show or hide these worksets which are defined in the role on top level navigation?
In a nutshell, can i update the visible/invisible property of a java workset from a call in abap web dynpro?
    Regards,
    Sumeet

Please refer the framework page [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/02/c7918e9fca44519701c47028a053fd/content.htm|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/02/c7918e9fca44519701c47028a053fd/content.htm]
What i meant was that you can do a custom TLN like this
    [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711core/helpdata/en/42/fd515a2aa95277e10000000a1553f7/content.htm|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711core/helpdata/en/42/fd515a2aa95277e10000000a1553f7/content.htm]
Seems to me java/jsp is more appropriate than doing it via WDA.
ANother way that you might look into this is Application integrator which again java programming effort needed.

  • HT203998 Yosemite terminal commands show/hide

Thank you for this article about show/hide terminal commands. In Yosemite 10.10 Terminal Can you also please tell me how to hide with a password then show again already existing folder created on a system drive and also an external drive. Please include the path to folder name "wbfiles". Thank you Winwoodb

Thanks for both positive, useful and sarcastic responses. The main reason is why I want to do this is becasuse I use different browsers, and all the cache they make is 2-3GB/day, as I use the web the most.
I see the reason why NOT TO clear it and I do understand it, but after a week it is 10-15GB for me.
And no, there isnt anyone else using my Mac, and the logs which I would nuke at every start and only keep the last and updated logs. I only need the startup and boot log.
@barney-15E yes it would be fun though
So then, I wont do anythings, as it cannot be done the way I wanted. I'll keep using Onyx.

  • How to hide name of Role from the top level navigation of the portal

    Hi Experts,
In my project, I have created 2 roles Role A and Role B. These roles have been assigned to User X.
When user X logs in, he is able to see name of role that is 'A' in the top level navigation.
As per the requirement, user X should not see the 'A'.
Rather user X should see following:
    Top Level Navigation: 'My Work'
When user clicks on 'My Work', he should see
'My Sub Work1' and 'My Sub Work2'.
After that under 'My Sub Work1' user should see following
    All Objects of Role A
    All Objects of Role B
Name of role i.e. 'A' or 'B' should not be displayed at all at any place in navigation.
Only whatever objects  has been assigned to Role A and B should be displayed in detailed navigation area.
Can you please let me know how to achieve this?
    Pictorial Diagram:
My Work       (In top level navigation)
My Sub Work1    My Sub Work2    (In top level navigation)
    _________Objects of role
    A
           |
           |_________Objects of role
                                   B
Please note that 'My  Work' and 'My Sub Work1' and 'My Sub Work2) are not roles. They are just the name of folders.
Can you please let me know how to achieve it?
    Regards,
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
    Try the following steps.
    1. Change the 'Entry Point' property of Roles A and B to 'No'.
    2. Create a role folder called 'My Work' under A and B.
    3. Set the 'Entry point' property of this folder to 'Yes'.
    4. Set the 'merge id' property of the folder as "mywork" (or any other string) under both roles A and B.
    5. Under 'My Work' in Role A,
    a. Set the 'Merge Priority' property to 50.
    b. create subfolder 'My sub work1' and create all your objects.
    6. Under 'My Work' in Role B,
    a. Set the 'Merge Priority' property to 100.
    b. create subfolder 'My sub work2' and create all your objects.
    7. Make sure the user is assigned both the roles A and B. Only then he/she can see objects of both the roles.
    8. One thing to remember while merging folders is that, all the entities that are being merged should be at the same level. For eg: in our case, you cannot merge 'my subwork1' in role A, with 'my work' in role B.
    Reward points if helpful.

    Priya

  • Cannot Create Folder at Top Level of Documents Library

Operating System:  Windows 7 Enterprise, 32-Bit
    Environment:  Windows 2003 domain
Security:  Local Machine admin, and domain admin
Documents Library is redirected via Group Policy to
    \\servername\home\username
Navigating to Libraries\Documents, there is no "New Folder" button available at that top level of the library.  When using File menu => New => Folder, I get "Unable to create the folder 'New Folder'   File system error (512)."
Looked that one up using Google, er, I mean Bing, and found articles about it being an old DOS\Win95 issue with the 512 max limit on the root drive.  Am familiar with that problem, and this ain't it. Less than 30 folders at the root level, and none more
    than 20 characters long.
From inside an Application, if I try to save to my Library\Documents folder, I cannot save a file to the root level.  I get "To save here, you must first include a folder in the Library."
At this point where I am looking to save a file, I also cannot type a folder name for navigation, as I am used to doing with previous OS's.  So in my address area, I have Libraries\Documents, then I have a subfolder called "important."  If I type
the word "Important," expect the system fo navigate down into that folder.  Instead I get "To save here, you must first include a folder in the Library." If I type "Important\" I still get the same error.
Navigating to \\servername\home\username, I am able to create a New Folder at the top level from a Windows Explorer window, or from inside an application such as Word.
Mapping a drive letter to \\servername\home\username also will allow me to create a New Folder at the top level, from a Windows Explorer Window, or from inside an application.
From a command prompt, I am able to get to the drive letter and create a new folder.
With the drive letter mapped, going back to Libraries\Documents, I am still unable to create a new folder that way.
I read these two threads, both of which sort of die off with no real answers.  So I've started my own.

    Any Help?

    Hi,
Regarding your problem, it seems that the user didn’t have appropriate permissions to create folders. To get it work, NTFS and Share permissions must be configured
    appropriately.
Here are the Share and NTFS Permissions needed on the File Server Shares and the steps to do so:
NOTE: The $ symbol should be used to hide the existence of the share.
    User Home Share Configuration:
Here are the Share and NTFS Permissions needed for Home Directories:
    a. The Share permissions (Sharing Tab): Share Named: <HOME>$
    Administrators: Full Control
    System: Full Control
    Authenticated Users: Full Control
    b. NTFS Folder Permissions (Security Tab): Turn off inheritance on the Folder named <HOME>, and copy the permissions. (Uncheck "Allow inheritable permissions
    to
    propagate to this object")
    Administrators: Full Control
    System: Full Control
    Creator Owner: Full Control
Authenticated Users: Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read
    c. On the NTFS Folder Permissions Click the Advanced Button. Then highlight Authenticated Users, Select View/Edit
    d. On the Permissions Entry for <HOME>, "the Apply onto" change to: "This folder
    only"
    e. Click OK
    f. Click OK again.
More reference, please read the following document:
Windows Server 2008 Share/NTFS permissions on home
    directories/folders
Redirect the Documents folder to a network share

BTW, as this issue is relevant to Windows Server 2003, please post in
Windows Server forums for solution as well.
    Hope it helps.

  • Did 10.6.5 alter the permissions of the top level of the startup volume?

Since applying the 10.6.5 update it seems that non-admin users have read/write access to the top level directory of the startup volume. That means that non-admin users can create items there.
I am wondeing if this is a normal change for 10.6.5 or if something is weird with my system.
We updated from 10.6.4 via Software Update. This machine has only ever had Snow Leopard installed on it.
(Note that top level sub-folders such as Library and System do not appear to be affected by this)

    Are you referring to the ownership and privileges for the drive? If so then if they aren't set at the default it's because of something a user has done because the installer makes no such changes. You can return them to the default as follows;
    1. Select the drive and Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window.
    2. In the Ownership and Sharing section at the bottom is a checkbox labeled, "Ignore permissions on this volume." If the box is checked then click on the lock icon and authenticate. Uncheck the box.
    3. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder and enter the following command then press RETURN:
    sudo chown root:admin "/Volumes/Macintosh HD"
You will be asked to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.
If you now click onto the still open Get Info window you should now see the proper info:
    Owner=system with r/w privileges
    Group=admin with r/w privileges
    Everyone is read-only
Click on the lock icon to prevent any changes. Close the window then quit the Terminal.

  • Terminal command to find most recently opened files

    Hello,
I have a terminal command (bash) that will find the last opened file (singular) from a given directory.  "$(ls -t | head -n1)"
I want to be able to search for multiple "last opened" files, say 20; I also want to be able to search either all user files, or at least direct the command to search within subfolders of a  top level folder.
Can anyone help.  I'd appreciate it!  Thanks.

This will find all files last used today. Reference. File Meta Data attributes. Curious about a file … mdls filename.
    mdfind -onlyin ~/Documents  'kMDItemLastUsedDate >= $time.today()'

  • Need Terminal Command to Erase External HD

I used the Disk Utility to partition an external Western Digital hard drive with one
partition for the Time Machine and the other for SuperDuper. Something happened
when the Disk Utility made the partitions. Now the two empty partitions show up
on the desktop but the Disk Utility cannot do anything. I suspect the directory is
hosed. The DU cannot Repair or even Erase the external drive. The DU hangs (does
not respond) and I have to use Force Quit. FYI, DU fails when it tried to unmount
    the partitions.
I am not very skilled in terminal commands and would appreciate some specific
commands to Erase the external WD hard drive. When I open the terminal it has
me at the user level. What is the command to view the external drive, then what
command is needed to ERASE it. Once erased I think the Disk Utility should be
    able to do its thing.
All of this needed to create a Time Machine backup drive

    aRKay wrote:
Select the top line for the drive in DU's sidebar, click the Partition tab, then
use the Current pop-up menu to select 1 Partition, and click Options and select GUID.
I tired that before making the posting. When I click on partition, it cannot unmount
either partition and DU hangs (does not respond).
Try booting up from your Install disc and using it's copy of Disk Utility. (Boot from the disc, select your language, then on the next screen select Utilities in the Menubar, then +Disk Utility).+
I would like to jump start the drive from the terminal if possible.
II'm not well-versed in UNIX. You might get some help with that in the UNIX forum, in the +Mac OSX Technologies+ forum, at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=735
Maybe I need a 3rd party utility to fix what DU hosed? Again, I suspect the director his hosed.
+Disk Warrior+ is thought by many to be the "gold standard" of such apps, and as probably a good investment, but is about $100. Whether it can fix this, I have no idea.

  • Terminal commands with automator

So I am not really used to scripts and the script language nor in automator, I only made a few apps with automator like resize picture and show/hide hidden files.
Now I am about to make an app which cleans my OS, I would like to run all these commands with one click, rather then copy pasting them into terminal one- by-one.
    sudo rm -rf /private/var/log/*
    sudo rm -rf /private/var/folders/
    cd /private/var/tmp/; rm -rf TM*
    cd ~/Library/Caches/; rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/*
this would clean my mac caches and logs, like i would run it every week as im a power user.
Please someone tell me how to put all these into automator and try to be detailed. Thanks for the support!

Thanks for both positive, useful and sarcastic responses. The main reason is why I want to do this is becasuse I use different browsers, and all the cache they make is 2-3GB/day, as I use the web the most.
