Terminals starting up in /root instead of ~

When I used gentoo, a term would startup in the ~ (home) directory of the user. With arch, i've got them starting up in the /root directory. How do I have them start up in the user's home directory (~) ?

Thanks for the quick response. What you have said makes sense but there is no rhyme or reason to he data used. I reset my cellular data counter to zero so both sent and received read zero. I was connected to wifi and let the phone to go into sleep mode. I waited about ten minutes and sent myself the same email four times, each with a 750 kb attachment. It was sent to my .me address so it was push mail on my phone. Sure enough I checked a minute later while bringing the phone out of sleep mode and checked the data. It showed just 10kb sent but 1mb received which just doesn't tally with the 4 x 750kb mails received. It just isn't making sense.
He knows what you asked and has already answered it!
I thought I had read where the iOS4 (or maybe just the iPhone 4) was supposed to be able to keep wifi connections alive while inactive. If the phone is sitting there on a charger with a wifi connection available, why use the 3G?

    Hi MFGTG,
    1. I would advise you to please go to
    2. Applicatoins>utilities>Adobe Installers
    3. Try to find if there is any uninstaller for the CS6.
    4. If you find the uninstaller then simply uninstall the application and then reinstall it.
    Thanks

  • Start of the root element expected.

    Hello Gurus,
I moved all my project contents from one root directory to another, after seting up everything. It gives compile time error on adf-faces-config.xml and adf-faces-skins.xml.
    The error:
XML-20108 - Start of the root element expected.
I have no idea what could have originated this error and how to fix it. Can any one help me?
    Thank you.
    Ruchir

I built the new project structure from scratch. i.e. created new application, then added a web project, then added all css file from old locations, then, created new xml documents and renamed it to adf-config-faces.xml and adf-faces-skins.xml and manually copied from these config xml documents from old location to newer one.
And then at last, copied the .jspx page and when compiling that, control moves to adf-config-faces.xml file and gives the error.
    Thanks,
    Ruchir

  • Zattoo (3.2.4.15876) not starting - only as root

    Hi,
I've installed zattoo (3.2.4.15876) from AUR including all dependencies.
If I try to start it I only see it for a few seconds saying "starting" and the the  window closes.
    In terminal I get:

    Speicherzugriffsfehler
I think the last word is translated as "segmentation fault". If I take a look at the debuglog, there are no informations available.
If I start zattoo_player as root, I get the message that adobe flash was not installed (flashplugin ist installed) but everything works fine, though.
So, why can't I start it as a normal user?
    Thanks

Maybe a problem with the rights management? Do you have access to ~/.Zattoo ? Maybe you could create a new user, give him (or her? ) the needed rights (I think the groups video and audio should be enough..) and start it from there. The Speicherzugriffsfehler (in English "segmentation fault") appears on my machine with lxrandr (an xrandr tool in LXDE), when I do some changes (Themes, etc. .. the stuff you do, when you make your desktop look the way you want), but on a fresh account it doesn't appear, so maybe it's the same here (because of that: create new user and test it then)

  • [SOLVED] Xorg not starting on non-root user [My First Linux]

Hello, I recently turned back to linux after digging up my old ASUS EEE 900a, which I messed up with partitioning fun after trying to cram Windows XP on it and etc. Anyways, I managed to fix it, and after Ubuntu being too big, I was turned on to Arch as a good distro, and I've been having a very good time setting everything up so far.
Anyways: My issue arises after needing to use a different user in order to use Chrome. I created a new account and tried to run startx like I usually do. It spat out the usual few lines, but failed and gave me this log:

I've tried looking for this problem elsewhere as it feels like such a newbie problem to have, but I have had difficulty. There are two errors in this log, I think, but they didn't mean much to me... Any help for a linux newbie? Thanks!
EDIT: Solved; as pointed out below, I needed a window manager for a non-root user to use.

Well, soon you'll have to try out one of the more minimal options, in which you don't use any desktop environment but instead you install your own window manager (openbox, dwm, i3, etc) and use small, dedicated programs.  Given your extreme space restrictions, I recommend going that route! But, take your time because that requires a bit of learning: you need to figure out which parts of a desktop environment you really need, then you need to learn the proper names for them so that you can search for information, then you need to start fiddling with configurations, etc.  Better first to make sure your first Arch Linux installation is up and running properly and to learn a bit about the system before entering that downward spiral.

  • Why does Googlemail not appear on the Start Page every time instead of going all through "more" and " even more etc, plus having to sign in even though I have ticked the Stay signed in box?

There is no consistency when one gets the Mozilla Firefox Start page. There is a line as follows :
Web Images Maps News Shopping Books more
To get Gmail one has to click on "more" which gets one a dropdown menu which ends in "even more" Clicking on this takes one to a page headed "Even More Google Products", including (Hurrah!) M Gmail.
Click on this and one gets the page where one signs in, even though I have ticked the box entitled " Stay signed in" and at last ones's e-mail page turns up. Very occasionally, instead of Books or Shopping on the Start Page "Gmail" is there which when clicked on takes one directly to one's e-mail.It seems a hell of a rigmarole just to get one's e-mail!

You can set Firefox home page to one of your choosing, see [[how to set the home page]].
If the keep me signed in option is not working, you may have a malformed cookie. Try deleting Google/Gmail cookies, for details on how to do that see [[deleting cookies]].

  • How do I get my computer to start opening up files instead of opening a pop up window rather than the file?

My computer has started opening up pop up windows that say, "Step 1: Select File, Information Gathered Successfully, Step 2: Click Show Information Button", instead of opening the file I click on. This informaion windown has generated another pop up window that suggests I visit the iTunes store for an app that will open the file. Twice I have purchased apps that the iTunes store said would open the file. Twice the apps have made no difference at all. The apps did not open the file. Even more frustrating than being sold apps that don't work is that the files I'm trying to open are textedit files created with the software on the very computer that is now refusing to open them.
How do I get beyond the pop-ups and open the files I created?
Is it possible to return the apps that iTunes said would work, but did not?

  • Finding Fonts in Fireworks - Why Does it Always Start at the Top, Instead of the Last Font You Used?

I've been using Fireworks for many years and I love it (currently using CS5).  But I live irritated with the way it starts at the beginning of your font list when you're selecting a font - instead of going right to the last font you used, which is how many other programs work.
Is there a way to change settings in Fireworks so it'll do this?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I scanned that article and it explains how to set the number of recent fonts shown at the top. But here's what I was talking about...
Let's say you're working on something and you have your text highlighted and you're working down the font list trying different fonts. You try a few A fonts, then B fonts, and so on, down the list.  Well, instead of Fireworks bringing you back to the current font IN THE LIST, everytime you go to try another font, it starts back at the top, and you have to scroll down and find where you were in the list ALL OVER AGAIN EVERY SINGLE TIME.
In Illustrator, when you have the Character box open, it does exactly what I'm describing. If you have some text selected, every time you change the font and go back to the font drop-down, it takes to you to where you are. If Myriad is the font you are currently using, it doesn't start you back at the top when you go to the drop-down to find another font. It takes you to Myriad in the list.

And the same after killing them all and restarting /etc/rc.d/httpd
    I have in httpd.conf:
    User nobody
    Group nobody
    How is it possible ?
    Any hint ?

This is necessary to use port 80
    There might be other reasons.

  • Manged servers started in ADMIN state instead of RUNNING

    HI All,
Recently i installed SOA 12C (12.1.3.0.0) with cluster for SOA and OSB. But when i start managed servers it shows in ADMIN state instead of RUNNING. Any specific reason? Also in Fusion EM console except Admin all servers are down.
    Thanks,
    Jagdish

    Hi Jagadish ,
This may happen if the domain credential is changed using the Admin Console and then the Admin Server is restarted without shutting down the Managed Server. Because the Managed Server has not restarted, it still has the old copy of the domain credential cached in memory, which does not match the new credential used in the Admin Server.
    1. Shut down managed server(s) and the Admin Server in sequence. After all managed servers and the admin server are shut down, backup and remove the directory data , cache , tmp under the path $DOMAIN_HOME\servers\<managed_server>\ .
    2. And then start the Admin Server, then bring up the managed server(s).
Also would be great, if you post the log file contents which Borys's requested in last post !
    Thanks
    Lakshman
