Test with my Shadow File
So a few weeks back i watched a episode of Hac5, and i saw them move a SAM file from a Windows computer to a USB, and make the computer search on that USB for the password. Then they did the same thing with the Shadow file on Linux
So heres what i want to do:
Idea: Move my Shadow file to a microSD adapter, when i leave my computer pull the micro SD card out and put it in another location
Exacution: I need to know what file to edit that would allow me to tell the OS to look on the SD card
For example we will use: /media/sdba1/.shadow as the location for the Shadow file on the SD card. Though this is not the true location, this is just an example
This might seem stupid to some, but i want to test out and see if this is actually better for security reasons.

Lol naw, i just want to play around and test this out, i actually think it would be a good idea. I mean if the computer knows theres a password, yet it cant find where its saved at (Because the SD card has been taken out) Then there is no way to brute force the password.... Because you cant crack whats not there At least thats the idea, and thats what i want to do. I want to do this on my 2nd hdd and make a password list that would contain the password on the system, and see if its still able to crack even though the password is no longer on the device, and if any errors come up i want to know which errors they are.
If this is successful and it does prove to be uncrackable, then i want to try and do the same with an encrypted HDD thats encrypted with Truecrypt, which will take much longer then this.
If you were to successfully do this with the Truecrypt and the Shadow passwords, your computer would be (At least for right now) Completely un-crackable. Which would just be awesome, even if you had to reason to make your computer un-crackable, it would be something to brag about lol.
I love Arch, so i want to configure it as much as i can to make it run exactly as i need
Does anyone have any idea on how i could do this? My guess was it would have something to do with .password, and maybe i could try putting the location of the .shadow file instead of the "X" in place of password. I highly doubt that will work, so i want to see if anyone has any other ideas or opinions before i try that

Sound problem with QuickTime .dv files exported from iMovie ~ help please

I have been working for ages on an important project which is intended to wind-up as a numbered edition DVD, limited to 50 copies.
When I worked in iMovie HD 5 this NEW PROBLEM didn't arise: I did what I thought was the right thing and bought iLife '06, then upgraded from the Apple site, so now I am using iMovie HD 6.0.1, iDVD 6.0.1 and QuickTime Player 7.0.4.
I've designed my own menus and the procedure as most anyone will know [thanks iCreate magazine!] is...you have to 'export' (or now 'share') the iMovie to QuickTime (or with QuickTime) which produces a .dv file which you then drag-and-drop into iDVD.
I've got 4 of these .dv files for the start-up and some menus.
THE PROBLEM IS whereas the sound (it's actually music) has been faded out (in synch with the image) ~ in iMovie everything seems fine ~ but THE QUICKTIME .dv FILES HAVE AN ANNOYING LITTLE "FLARE-UP" OF MUSIC AT THE END OF THEM.
Imported into iDVD, in preview: sure enough! ~ you hear the annoying, untidy-sounding snips at the end.
It's ruining my project ~ please help, someone!I am having the exact problem, it's a real show stopper.
I have tested hardware, software, media as below.
Tested on
1 Intel 17inch iMac
2 G4 AGP 450 + 1.2Ghz Model
Each have a fresh install of iLife 06 on
Each have been tested with different project files.
Differnet music files
The issue seems to be with apples iLife software to me.
I am on the phone to apple right now, they only surgest I create a new user as it generates new prefs, but the above test has already rulled out preference files!
Also rebuilding and reinstalling, but again the above test has rulled that out as the 3 machines were freshly built.
I have already upgraded my graphics card in my machine at home to sort out preview problems with iMovie, hopefully it's not going to be an expensive audio card aswell.
If any 1 can throw any light on this please do as apple support can't.

I've fallen into the habit of mounting disk images with a shadow file to save disk space on my laptop. I'd like to merge the shadow file back into the disk image in order to better preserve the changes I've made. After reading the man page for hdiutil it appeared as if this task would be as simple as performing a "convert," specifying the image file and the "ov" flag in the options. However, I continue to receive "Resource Busy" errors despite the image being unmounted. Am I attempting the impossible, or have I simply missed the solution to my problem? Would anyone with any knowledge about hdiutil be able to share some insight?
I think you can not use the option '-ov' with the verb 'convert'; convert into a new disk image will work
hdiutil convert old.dmg -format xxx -o new.dmg -shadow shadowfile
After checking that new.dmg is OK, you may remove old.dmg. Or do you mean you don't have enough disk space to do this? -
Hi - for any photo, info in mountain lion shows a different file size than Photoshop does. I've tested with both CS3 and CS6 on 10.8.2 and get the same problem. This doesn't happen with CS3 and OSX10.4 or any previous versions of Photoshop and OSX. Anyone know why?
this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem? -

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 computer. In the right-click menu for a song one option is DELETE. However when I click that option the next window is to HIDE instead of DELETE. Apple, please help us with this.

Importing a .psd file - getting weird effects with drop shadows!! HELP!
Hi all,
I'm trying to import a psd file as my site and then animate each page.
I have each page set up as a different layer and am importing each page as a movie clip so i can animate each one separately.
The problem is that i have some images on each page that have drop shadows ( i have flattened these in photoshop so there is no longer the blending options layers attached). When flash imports all the layers it obviously has all of them visible at the same time initially.
When i then go through and separate each page to show at different points in the timeline, the images with drop shadows are now showing the image that was underneath it on import, instead of the drop shadow. Difficult to explain, but if you imagine a page with a square in the middle. That square has a drop shadow along two edges which is a slight shading. On a different page (on the layer underneath) there is just a big image of the sea (could be anything). When i import them, the page with the square is sitting directly on top of the page with the image of the sea. I separate these in the timeline so they show at different points, but when it's just the page with the square showing (the page with the sea isn't showing at this point), instead of the nice shading for the drop shadow, in it's place is the thin part of the image of the sea that was initially under the shading for the drop shadow....
Can anyone suggest what is happening and why, and how to quickly fix it in Flash. It took me AGES to import the whole site and all the pages, but now all the movieclips are completely useless because all the drop shadows are messed up with the images that were importing underneath them???!
I'm in a real rush here too, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.

No. Luckily it is very quick to compile and test on the iPad. I've watched people using Flashbuilder and it seems to be a much more complex process.

2.) Navigate from Menu bar "File" -> "Plugin for Safari" -> "Uninstall".

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path using any of these perfectly normal methods:
1. double-click file in the Finder (e.g in a Folder on your Mac or on your Mac desktop etc.)
2. select file and choose "File... Open" command-o in the Finder
3. drag file to the application icon in the Finder.
4. Select file in Bridge and double-click, choose File.. Open.. or Drag icon to InDesign icon in dock.
If you try to open an ID file named with a "#", you will get an error message "Missing required parameter 'from' for event 'open.'"
This happens to any InDesign file that has a "#" (pound sign, number sign, or hash) in the filename or in the file path (any parent folder).
To reproduce
Name an InDesign file Test#.idd Try to open it in the Finder or Bridge (as opposed to the "Open" dilaog of InDeisng itself).
"Solution"
The file WILL open using File... Open... command-o while in InDesign application.
Rename the file or folders that have a "#" (shift-3) in the filename.
Report to Adobe if it bugs you.
This does not occur in "plain" Leopard 10.5 nor Tiger 10.4
Untested in Panther or before and
Untested with CS3 and earlier in Snow Leaopard.

I believe I have a problem with my Jar file build.
Hi, there. New to Java/JavaFX. Testing language features. Operating System: Windows 7; java version 1.7.0_03; javafx version 2.0.3.
This is a simple test with 2 classes: Test1.class resides in base directory "MyJavaFX"; TextFileLoader.class resides in sub-directory "inout" of "MyJavaFX"(i.e. MyJavaFX\inout).
Test1.class has an import statement "import inout.TextFileLoader;" TextFileLoader.class has a package statement "package inout;"
Both classes compile without problems and jar file is created using Ant tasks.
Within "MyJavaFX" as my current directory, When running Application Test1 (java -jar Test1.jar)
getting error "ClassNotFoundException: inout.TextFileLoader".
I believe it has to do with how Test1.jar file is built. I believe line 4 should say "inout/TextFileLoader.class"
instead of just the simple class name but I can't get my Ant task to set it up that way.

The first time I launch an application with javaw (after installing the JVM on a new machine it takes a long time for it to happen. have you tried from the command line >javaw -jar D.jar? I'm wondering if the installation of java went well on your machine. It's supposed to set up things correctly. did you install a new version of java over an existing one? maybe there was a java plugin previously installed on the machine before you installed j2sdk.

Trashed the preferences for Safari, restarted computer to no avail.
It just keeps keepin on.
ThanksIn the past I was able to bypass the message by editing the Info.plist file and updating the MaxBundleVersion variable, but not so this time around. As of today the developer seems to indicate there's no immediate fix becuase of how Safari 5.1 handles multiprocess page rendering. Probably best to stay tuned to Mike's website for now.
