Testing data sources in oc4j-ra.xml

Is there a way to test the data sources in oc4j-ra.xml from the server? I have a server sitting inside a DMZ that has access back to internal databases. The DMZ has its own set of IP addresses and it has specific openings to the internal resources it needs. that is why i would like to test the connections from the server.

Hi,
You're right. I've downloaded JDev 10.1.2.
The working version:
<data-source name="jdev-connection-myconn"
class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
location="jdbc/myconnCoreDS" xa-location="jdbc/xa/myconnXADS"
ejb-location="jdbc/myconnDS"
pooled-location="jdbc/myconnPooledDS"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
username="xxx" password="yyy"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:mysid"
inactivity-timeout="30"/>and:
DataSource ds = (DataSource) getInitialContext().lookup("jdbc/myconnDS");JDev generates the correct data-sources.xml, if you create the data-sources.xml with its wizard (New Galery/General/DeploymentDescriptors/data-sources.xml). Then you can see in the properties dialog, the default setting is: Auto update data-sources.xml when running or deploying to OC4J.
So when you first run the embedded OC4J, your data-sources.xml file will be updated with your connections.
I read these useful things in Olaf Heimburger's blog :) (OC4J: Configuring DataSources, 2007-05-03)

• Pooled Data Sources in OC4J

Hi all
i have jsut started working with OAS, and i have noticed it manages Data Sources i a very easy way through xml configuration files.
The question is, do i have to write a connection pool of my own, or the server just manages it, as long as it is provided with correct information about the database?
Any help will be appreciated
thank you

For the Developer Preview you can see documentation at
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/documentation_preview.html
For the production documentation go to
http://otn.oracle.com/docs/tech/java/oc4j/content.html
The book that you want to look for related to data sources and pooling is the J2EE Services Guide and it is located at
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/pdf/oc4j_j2ee_svcguide_r2.pdf

u just configure ur struts-config.xml file in the above manner and use the following steps in ur action servlet to retrive the DataSource object
getDatasource(request,"DBA") for accessing first datasource
getDatasource(request,"AISDEV") for accessing second datasource.

• Data source for Deposit Advice (XML) and Live CheckWrite (XML) reports

Hello All,
We need to customize the Deposit Advice (XML) and Live Check Write(XML) reports to accomodate a few business requirements. We already have customizations for these reports in non-XML versions. For Ex: USPAYPST.rdf for Deposit Advice report. As these non-XML RDF reports are going to be unsupported by Oracle soon, we need to customize the XML versions of these report available in R12.1.3.
As these reports are kicked off by the PYUGEN spawned program, therefore I need information on the data source for these reports as soon as possible.
Looking forward to your prompt help.
Thanks,
Rahul

Now, I have anew problem here. I modified the USPAYPST.rdf report for Deposit Advice and then changed concurrent program output to XML from Text.
I attached a RTF template to the concurrent program to have the output in XML.
When I run Deposit Invoice Report from the SRS window, it finishes off normally and log file says the number of records processed but no output file is generated.
I also tried looking into the XML generated through View XMl and there too no output file is generated.
I am confused if the Deposit Advice program can only generate Text output. As PYUGEN is the executable for this report, I have no idea if XML file can even be generated.
All pointers to this issue are welcome.
Thanks,
Rahul

• Data source for deposit advice xml and check writer xml

Could someone please tell me where I can find the data source for the Deposit Advice XML and Check Writer XML programs. Since these executables are now a spawned process (PYUGEN), I don't know how to get to the data source. I was able before to look at the queries in PAYUSPST.rdf and PAYUSCHK.rdf. Where are these queries located now? Any help is appreaciated.

Hi All,
I applyied the patch 6399100 and i got the seeded Check Writer (XML) and Deposit Advice (XML) programs.Im able to run the Check Writer (XML) with Parameter (Check Style :Seeded Archive Check Writer Template ) but where as the im unable to run the Deposit Advice (XML) due to Error msg: "No enties found for list of vales"for the 'Check Style' Parameter.
And for the above (only for Deposit Advice) i am not able to ecexute the SQL script given in the Doc ID : 459306.1 due to the error msg : cannot insert NULL into ("HR"."PAY_REPORT_CATEGORIES"."REPORT_GROUP_ID") if i see query the select * from apps.pay_report_categories where short_name like 'ARCHIVE%' there is no record exixts for ARCHIVE_DEPOSIT....
for this we required any other patch/setups.
And is the "Third Pary Check" will support XML Publisher ??
Any respose will be greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
Madhu

• Multiple data sources in OC4J 10g

I've read through the documentation, searched metalink and searched the posts on the forums. There's so many examples out there that I've gotten myself confused. I haven't been able to locate an example for me, though.
After all that reading, I still don't quite understand JNDI and data sources. There's 2 problems that I'm running into that are somewhat related.
First off, most of the examples I've found seem to indicate that I can make up whatever name I want to put in for location. I seem to be missing something, because then my application cannot find that data source.
The second problem, is the basis for the first problem. I was able to create one data source which used the location jdbc/OracleCoreDS. However, since I work in an environment with multiple oracle databases, I wanted to create data sources for those other databases, the only difference being the URL. Enterprise Manager will not let me create another data source with the same location.
I was hoping someone could explain to me what else needs to happen to link up my own value for location so that my application can find the data source.
Thanks

Hello,
A data source entry is for one single database, so if you have multiple database to connect into your application you must create 1 entry per database (eg: jdbc/database1 jdbc/database2)
If you want to manage transactions over multiple databases (2 Phases Commit) you should the distributed transaction coordinator (DTC) provided within OracleAS.
For these 2 points (multi DB and transaction) I am inviting you to read the chapter 4-Datasources) on the "Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE: Services Guide"

• Handling large xml data source files

Hello. I have developed a crystal report that uses an xml data file as a data source (supported by an xml schema file). I have successfully run the report for small sample xml data files, but I now have a realistic data file that is around 4Mb in size.When I run the report within the Crystal Reports designer (ver. 11.0.0.1994), i get a "failure to retrieve data from database" error. Is there some sort of configurable limit on data file/cache size that I can adjust - if indeed that is the problem? Thanks LeCoq

• Deploy failure due to jta-data-source in persistence.xml

Hey All,
This is driving me insane. Every example, including the Sun tutorials (which don't work on my instance of Glassfish), list persistence.xml files like:
"
<persistence xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" version="1.0">
<persistence-unit name="persistence_sample">
<provider>oracle.toplink.essentials.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerFactoryProvider</provider>
<jta-data-source>jdbc/SamplesDB</jta-data-source>
<non-jta-data-source>jdbc/SamplesDB__nontx</non-jta-data-source>
</persistence-unit>
</persistence>"
I've tried every combination of <persistence...> tags, with namespace definitions, posted in examples on the internet, but my problem is, any time I deploy my ear with a "<jta-data-source>" tag specified, I receive the following failure from the App Server:
"Error loading deployment descriptors for module [pi-0] Line 26 Column 24 -- Deployment descriptor file META-INF/persistence.xml in archive [pi-ejb.jar]. cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'jta-data-source'. Note that this only happens when I have a <jta-data-source> element in the persistence.xml file. When I comment out the jta-data-source, it deploys without problems (though it doesn't do much). Here's my persistence-unit code:
<persistence-unit name="prodcontext" transaction-type="JTA">
<provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider>
<class>OneOfMyClasses</class>
<jta-data-source>jdbc/SamplesDB</jta-data-source>
</persistence-unit>
Please help.
Thank you,
Todd

Okay okay, my mistake (staring at this thing too long).
The solution is, I confess I overlooked it, the jta-data-source node in the xml has to follow the exact order specified in the xsd. I was putting it below the class nodes, which is a no-no.

• Data-source.xml location

Hi.
I have a web application, so I included the file data-source.xml and orion-application.xml in the project.
If I run the application through JDeveloper every thing is ok.
But if I make a deploy in the server, I get the following error:
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: jdbc/smCoreDS not found
I was checking the ear and war file and I realized that the data-sources and orion-appications.xml were in the war file instead of the ear file.
How can I make to JDeveloper puts the file in the path META-INF in the ear.file instead of in the path WEB-INF\classes\META-INF in the war file
regards

To the web.xml of the web application add
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/smCoreDS</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>

• Multiple Domains with oc4j-ra.xml

Hi, I am using the oc4j-ra.xml file in the /oracle/app/10Gias/j2ee/OC4J_BPEL/application-deployments/default/DbAdapter/ directory to my database connection. I have now created a second domain for a TEST environment and want to use a seperate oc4j-ra.xml file for it. Is this possible? Should'nt there be a seperate oc4j-ra.xml file for each domain? Or is there another way to handle this with multiple domains?
Thanks

Hi,
I am sorry it is not oc4j-ra.xml rather it is OraHome_1\j2ee\OC4J_BPEL\config\data-sources.xml where we have jndi location of all datasources.
i think here we can define multiple datasource elements pointing to diffrent databases say one for Development and one for Testing like:
for Development:
<data-source class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="BPELServerDataSource"
location="jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflowDev"
xa-location="BPELServerDataSource"
ejb-location="jdbc/BPELServerDataSource"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
max-connections="50"
min-connections="10"
connection-retry-interval="30"
max-connect-attempts="10"
username="orabpel"
password="->pwForOrabpel"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=101.11.50.51)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=esb)))"/>
for Testing:
<data-source class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="BPELServerDataSource"
location="jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflowTest"
xa-location="BPELServerDataSource"
ejb-location="jdbc/BPELServerDataSource"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
max-connections="50"
min-connections="10"
connection-retry-interval="30"
max-connect-attempts="10"
username="orabpel"
password="->pwForOrabpel"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=101.11.50.52)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=esb)))"/>
after that, modify the domain.xml in Development domain to point
<property id="datasourceJndi">

<value>jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflowDev</value>
<comment>
The JNDI name for the domain datasource. This datasource may refer to any datasource (JTA not required).
</comment>
</property>
and modify the domain.xml in Testing domain to point
<property id="datasourceJndi">

<value>jdbc/BPELServerDataSourceWorkflowTest</value>
<comment>
The JNDI name for the domain datasource. This datasource may refer to any datasource (JTA not required).
</comment>
</property>
I hope this will help you.
Thanks,

• Error while creating data source using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g

Hi,
I have deployed my web application developed on OC4J 9.0.4 stand alone (Win2K) to an integrated OC4J version(Solaris) using Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g.
However, I get an error when I try to create a data source.
The data source I want to create would have the following parameters (as seen in data-sources.xml on the stand alone version):
<data-source
class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="TestDS"
location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
ejb-location="jdbc/TestDS"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostName:1521:test"
username="user"
password="password"
min-connections="5"
max-connections="20"
inactivity-timeout="30"
/>
When I entered the above data on the Enterprise Manager Data Sources page, I got the following error:
quote:
Error saving Data Source Properties. - Entity et="system";ei="0",et="application";ei="48",et="data-sources";ei="167":child:data-sourcechild key:location:jdbc/OracleCoreDS; class:com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource; already exists in the repository. Resolution: Please check the code base.
unquote:
Could somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong ?
I tried to manually edit the data-sources.xml file but the data source didn't show up on the Enterprise Manager.
I'm using a new OC4J instance (on the Solaris machine) for my applications. Is the data source error related to this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shyam

Thanks for your reply , Steve.
I noticed that there is a default datasouce on the EM with the following parameters:
<data-source
class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
name="OracleDS"
location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
username="scott"
password="->pwForScott"
url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:oracle"
inactivity-timeout="30"
/>
The location and xa-location attributes that I use for my "test" data source are the same as the default one. So, could this be the issue?
What should be the values for location and xa-location attributes from my "test" data source?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shyam

I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
But I found the following information:
Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

<weblogic-connector xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90">
<enable-global-access-to-classes>true</enable-global-access-to-classes>

</pool-params>

</connection-properties>
</connection-instance>
</connection-definition-group>
</outbound-resource-adapter>
</weblogic-connector>
Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:
BEA-380001: Invoke JCA outbound service failed with application error, exception:
com.bea.wli.sb.transports.jca.JCATransportException: oracle.tip.adapter.sa.api.JCABindingException: oracle.tip.adapter.sa.impl.fw.ext.org.collaxa.thirdparty.apache.wsif.WSIFException: servicebus:/WSDL/DBAdapterTest/DBReader [ DBReader_ptt::DBReaderSelect(DBReaderSelect_inputParameters,PersonTCollection) ] - WSIF JCA Execute of operation 'DBReaderSelect' failed due to: Could not create/access the TopLink Session.

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

• Data source login + ServerSession + uow

Can anyone please provide assistance as to what lines of code is necessary to be able to create a ServerSession, then login using the username and password of the data sources of OC4J, and then acquire a unit of work to be used in doing read and write transactions against a 9i database. My toplink version is 10g (9.0.4). The following are snippets of my java code:
ServerSession session = null;
session = (ServerSession)SessionManager.getManager().getSession("session");
// I didn't put session.login() because I
// read somewhere that there is already an implicit
// login when the ServerSession (session variable) was
// created via the second line above.
UnitOfWork unitOfWork;
System.out.println("step3.1");
Session session1 = (Session) session.acquireClientSession();
unitOfWork = session1.acquireUnitOfWork();
// the problem is, at this point of acquiring a unit of
// work, at runtime, I already encounter a
// java.lang.NullPointerException. Does it mean that my
// assumption of an implicit login during the
// ServerSession creation is not correct?
Please help. I guess this are still the basic stuff of Toplink but the standard Toplink documentations don't seem to help. Thanks in advance.

For the benefit of others, my unit of work is now defined as:
unitOfWork = getServerSession().acquireClientSession().acquireUnitOfWork();
Likewise, I have included in my session bean the following methods:
public void login() {
// Get a Server Session from the sessions xml
ServerSession aSession = (ServerSession)SessionManager.getManager().getSession("Session");
aSession.login();
setServerSession(aSession);
public static void logout() {
if (getServerSession() != null) {
getServerSession().logout();
protected static ServerSession serverSession = null;
private static ServerSession getServerSession() {
return serverSession;
private void setServerSession(ServerSession session) {
this.serverSession = session;
With this, all i have to do is invoke login() to establish a database login.
