Testing in Maint Cycle phase 'Dev With release'

Hi there,
Suppose following siutation:
The Maint Cylce is in phase 'Dev with Release'
A normal correction is set "Completed" by the developer and its currenet processor is assigned to a test-person.
ChangeManager unlocks the tasks QualSystem of the TaskList.
The test-person logged on SolMan. Goes to 'Change documents to be processed by me'
He takes the correction in edit-mode.
Action 'Logon to the system'
And know the test person can start testing, although the CTS-request of the developer is not yet imported, nor is the MC phase in 'Test'
A 'small' gap in the functionality ??? or am I doing something wrong ???
regards
Steven

Hello Vivek,
Thanks for your reply.
It is kinda weird the steps sequence, since the Tester needs to tell the Change Manager to move the cycle's status before approving the correction done in QAS (successfully tested).
Perhaps a new action between "to be tested" and "successfully tested" could exist, in order to request the CM to perform the cycle update.
But OK, that's how it is.

Daniel

there is no service desk project...but a service desk transaction wihch in turn automatically updates the status of task list..this transaction and task list both are attached to corr changes of ur project
generally the process is to change the status using service desk transaction not using that report that report is used in case of problem occured....therefore used for force closing the cycle.

  • Re-assign a Change Doc to another Maint Cycle

    Hi there
    In SolMan 4.0 SP6
If a change request (in fact the change document) is assigned to a maintenance cycle and no transport request is created yet for the change, is there any possibility to switch the link of the change document to another maintenance cycle? and similar:
If a change request (in fact the change document) is assigned to a maintenance cycle and transport requests are already created yet for the change, is there any possibility to still switch the link of the change document to another maintenance cycle?
if not, what do we have to do if mistakes have been made? or does a workaround exist?
    regards
    Steven

Good question.  Because of this very concern, we are planning to only have one maintenance cycle open that we use over and over again.  We'll move the phase of the maintenance cycle from "Development with Release" to "Go-Live", deploy are code, and then move the status back to "Development with Release".

  • ChaRM: Normal Change - Not possible to set "Successfully Tested" unless the Maint. Cycle is set to "In Development with Release"

    Hello,
I'm doing some tests with ChaRM, Normal Change scenario.
As far as I know, the following steps would be the correct sequence (concerning development and test phases only):
    1) Developers perform the correction in DEV and release their TASKS of the transport request
    2) Developer Lead set the Normal Change document status to "to be tested"
    3) In background, a Transport of Copies is created with all data previously stored in the original transport request. Then this ToC is transported into QAS
    4) Change Manager set the Maintenance Cycle status to "Test"
    5) Tester performs the test into QAS
    6) Tester provides a valuable feedback and set Normal Change document status to "tested successfully"
According to the following SAP Portal article, it seems to be correct:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm71_sp10/helpdata/en/48/db938dceba518de10000000a42189c/frameset.htm
During my tests, however, I have noticed that it is just possible to go from step 5 to 6 if the Maintenance Cycle status is set to "In Development with Release" (go a step back in the Cycle). Otherwise, I get the following error messages:
Warning Message Details Status was reset by system
Warning Message Details Action RELEASE_ALL cannot be performed during this maintenance phase
Warning Message Next status cannot be set because some actions cannot be executed.
Once I have done the Cycle status change, then it is possible to move from 5 to 6 without errors and then the original transport request is transported into QAS too.
Question: Is this the correct behavior or am I missing customizing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to take a maintenance cycle out of phase 'Development without Release'?

    Gurus:
I have a need to take a maintenance cycle out of phase 'Development without Release'.
I have searched  OSS and SDN but failed to find any solution.
Would you please help give some hint?
    I appreciate your precious help.

    Hi,
If you want to change the phase of you maintenance cycle, 2 solutions :
Go in t-code solar_project_admin then choose you project. In the System Landscape --> Change Request Tab, then either :
    - click on the Show Tasklist button then click on the Phase button. You can change the phase from here.
    - click on the Show Service Desk transaction which is the cycle and change the phase executing an action.
    Hope it helps.
    Kind regards,
    Stéphane.
PS : you can use tx /n/tmwflow/proj as well by choosing a project from the left pannel then clicking on the full screen button in the Scheduling tab.

  • How do you cope with releases of your custom Portal Content (PCD Content)?

    Dear SDN Community,
I'm very interested in how you cope with release management in the Portal (PCD).
Where I'm focusing on is the release of a "project" trough your landscape (Dev, Test, QA, Prod)
When starting a project you start with a new folder lets say "My Custom App" that contains all your content.
Once done you transport to Test, QA and eventually Prod. Now the Content is in use and roles are assigned.
Request for changes arive from the customer and eventually a new release need to be implemented.
Offcourse you could then change/update the content in the initial folder and transport that to Test, QA again but you will not be able to fix incidents while creating the new release because objects maybe touched.
I was thinking about a scenario where you create subfolders in your application folder, see example below:
    \ "My Custom App"
    |--- Release 1.0
    |--- Release 1.1
    |--- Release 2.0
    |--- Current
You only do this on your Dev system. Everytime a Release is OK you put it in the "Current" folder and transport this to Prod.
Using this you won't have to change the Role assignments in your different landscapes as they are always pointing to the "Current" folder. In addition this scenario enables you to provide Pilot rollouts to smaller groups parallel to the Major release.
My question to you is to shoot on it and give your oppinion/feedback... where possible provide links to SAP document or best practices that describe this subject...
    Thnx in advance,
    Benjamin Houttuin

    Hi Bejamin,
It is an interesting approach you describe and I see no reason it should not work.
The only thing which can create some problems is that the object ID of roles must be unique. For example com.mycom.roles.roleA cannot exist in two separate folders in the PCD. For all other PCD objects it is the PCD ID which must be unique and this includes the folder prefix.
In my experience, the most natural solution for this in large portal environments is to have both a version and a production line.
The production line will be your standard sandbox, development, test/QA, production and the version line will consist of an development and test/QA systems.
Long running projects for enhancements to existing functionality will be done in the version line, before being transported to the production line when ready for GoLive. This makes even more sense when you have version lines for backend systems your portal are using which are modified at the same time.
Whilst the project is running, the production line can be used for changes to the current version, but it is important to note that all these changes have to be migrated into the version line in order to make sure they are not overwritten.
Of course, a version line brings extra cost related to synchronization and similar, so it is not always it makes sense.
Amit's two documents of large portal installations might be somewhat relevant:

unable to delete Role from User ID in SAP SOLMAN production system but able to from DEV with the same authorization, pls suggest

    Hi,
For SU01 role removal, you do not need S_USER_AGR with 02, and as you mentioned both authorizations available in production, if so trace should not show you the S_USER_AGR with 02 with RC=04.
I would recommend to do role comparison for the user performing the activity. and then check if you have the S_USER_AGR with 02 in user buffer SU56.
But ideally it should not ask you S_USER_AGR for 02 through SU01, so please take help of abaper to debug it.
Also put trace in non-prd to see if S_USER_AGR is getting checked with 02 for removal through SU01.

ECC sandbox seems to be in 701 release. When the backend system ECC is in release 701, vendor replication fails with the error message that 'Backend system release 701 not supported'. We need to apply notes 1313972 and 1372175 to fix this issue. I have applied them in Sandbox and the issue is resolved now.

  • Re: [Fwd: Java Applet IIOP Call-In with Release 3C--How dowe speed up d

    Hi Michael,
We have done exactly what you describe and have avoided the slow applet
download times. Although it can be a bit tricky, it is possible to use
the ORB bundled inside the Netscape 4.0 browser (Visibroker for Java by
Visigenic). Most of the code should follow Netscape's examples (on
http://developer.netscape.com)--just remember to initialize the ORB by
passing a reference to the current applet in orb_init() (so that you
invoke something like orb_init(this) [assuming you are extending
java.applet.Applet]). Pulling up the Java console within your web
browser should help debug quite a bit (a lot of debug messages will get
printed there the ORB is having problems).
Netscape has just implemented the applet caching schemes you describe,
so it probably shouldn't matter too much if you use another vendor's
ORB (we've done this with Iona's OrbixWeb). If you use ZIP files, they
have to be uncompressed, and I don't think that the browser will cache
them between browser sessions. Netscape 4.0 does seem to handle
compressed JAR files just fine and it does indeed cache them between
browser sessions. I'd go with the JAR format anyway since the ZIP
bundling was just a workaround until Sun got their act together in the
    1.1 JDK.
By the way, you also might want to take advantage of the code-signing
and capabilities APIs of Netscape if you are going to invoke methods on
objects not resident on your web server. Otherwise, you will probably
run into the (in)famous browser applet security restrictions and you may
have other problems doing things like callbacks from Forte, etc.
If you want more detail on how it works, let me know and I can post some
    examples.

Subject: Java Applet IIOP Call-In with Release 3C--How do we speed up download time.
    Date: Wed, 2 Jul 1997 09:10:31 -0500
    From: Michael Nelson <[email protected]>
    To: "'[email protected]'" <[email protected]>
We have successfully implemented a simple Java Applet that calls into
Forte Services via IIOP. However, the duration of the download time
    for
Applet and its required class files is UNACCEPTABLE in a typical
INTERNET environment where 28.8K modems and multiple hops around the
    net
are not uncommon. We dialed into our network at 28.8K (but no
    hopping),
and found that download times varied from 1.5 - 2.0 minutes. This is
unacceptable, even by internet standards. We have been using the
Visigenic Visibroker product as the ORB.
After doing some investigation, we've come up with several ideas to
    speed up download time:
    1. Figure out how to use the Visigenic components (CORBA/IIOP class
files) that come bundled with the latest version of the Netscape
Navigator browser, so that they don't have to be downloaded
    2. Figure out how to use ZIP files. Here's what I've read: "Since
    the
introduction of Netscape Navigator 3.0, you can specify an
    uncompressed
.zip file as an addition to the code base of your application. By
specifying a ZIP file, the browser will load your applet's classes
    from
a specified ZIP file before it searches the code base. This ZIP can
improve applet download time by reducing the number of HTTP
    connections
required to fetch applet code. As an added benefit, Netscape caches
    the
single ZIP file so that it will not reload your applet unless the date
of the ZIP file has changed."
    3. Figure out how to use JAR files. Here's what I've read: "JAR
stands for Java archive. It's a file format based on the popular ZIP
file format and is used for aggregating many files into one. Although
JAR can be used as a general archiving tool, the primary motivation
    for
its development was so that Java applets and their requisite
    components
can be downloaded to a browser in a single HTTP transaction, rather
    than
opening a new connection for each piece. This greatly improves the
speed with which an applet can be loaded onto a web page and begin
functioning. The JAR format also supports compression, which reduces
    the
size of the file and improves download time still further."
Unfortunately, we've been unable to get any of these approaches to
    work.
Has any one used these or other approaches to speed up applet
    download
time? Or, does anyone know of consulting firms that specialize in
    this
    sort of thing?
