Value
String
0
Long (I32)
1
Single (SGL)
2
Double (DBL)
3
Date/Time
4
Binary

  • Mixed Data Type Table Control for Data Entry

    Hi Guys --
    I'm attempting to do error-checked data entry,
    My data is mixed: path, boolean, and numeric.  The natural organization is an array of clusters.  For instance, the cluster element would look like "path, boolean, numeric, numeric"  and I would have many rows of this data cluster.  To further complicate things I have to dynamically define the number of numeric elements in the cluster (tricky already) and also dynamically define the length of the array.
    I find the table control to be ideal to handle the dynamic nature of the data for editing.  I can easily use scroll bars to navigate to the appropriate part of the data.  I can delete rows and columns etc.
    On the other hand, the table can only handle string data.  I find that doing data checking and type conversion on the table elements to be extremely cumbersome.
    I think what I'm looking for is a Table Control with ability to handle controls as elements.  From what I've read in this list and personally experienced, that functionality doesn't exist.
    Does LV have in-built functionality that I'm overlooking to resolve this problem?  Is there a third-party library that would do the job?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi Ben --
    I think perhaps that I wasn't clear in my description.
    As I pointed out, my data is organized naturally as an Array of Clusters.  More descriptively, my data looks like spreadsheet data; some text, some numbers.  I need to add rows and columns dynamically.  I need to be able to resize column widths dynamically... and while the program is executing.
    The Table Control does all of this.  The intuitive way that the Table Control permits a user to enter data is also good for my user.  The Array of Cluster data looks like spreadsheet data and a Table looks close enough to a spreadsheet.  A Table permits one to insert and delete rows, resize columns widths, and scroll around.
    I don't see that I get these features with an Array of Clusters Control.
    The issue with the Table Control is the lack of in-built data types, so I spend an inordinate amount of time doing type-conversion and range-checking.
    At this point I'm pretty much convinced that LV doesn't have the in-built capability that I'm looking for.
    I am curious if there are any LV libraries or Active-X controls somewhere that would implement the functionality that I require?

  • The suitable LabVIEW data type correspinding to the array of structure in Visual Basic ActiveX DLL

    Hi!
    I need to call a VB ActiveX DLL from LabVIEW. When I run my LabVIEW code, I always meet an error as:
    Error 1 occurred at Incorrect Function in T06.vi
    Possible reasons:
    LabVIEW: An input parameter is invalid.
    I have read the VB DLL code that defines the data type. It fills data to a structure, then puts this structure to the array, and sends the array of structures to the method.
    VB Code:
    For I = 1 To 31
    Set MyInputData(I) = New EM_nkd_DataPoint
    Next I
    With MyInputData(1)
    .Amplitude = 8.44
    .DataPointType = R_HW
    .DataSource = MEASURED
    .Wav
    elength = 409.56
    End With
    With MyInputData(2)
    .Amplitude = 91.60113
    .DataPointType = T_SUB
    .DataSource = MEASURED
    .Wavelength = 409.56
    End With
    ~~~
    With MyInputData(31)
    .Amplitude = 91.96825
    .DataPointType = T_SUB
    .DataSource = MEASURED
    .Wavelength = 657.43
    End With
    My problem is that I can’t find a suitable kind of data type in LabVIEW which is corresponding to this case
    Attached my LabVIEW code for reference.
    Hi,
    if you have a complete source code including EM_nkd_DataPoint class module, take a look inside in order to see data types for Amplitude, DataPointType, DataSource and Wavelength (probably for Amplitude and Wavelength is SINGLE). If this code is not available, maybe the author mentioned a type for T_SUB and MEASURED even if they are constants.
  • I Date TestSTand data type
    TestSTAND date data type
    I use TestSTAND pop up message to request user to input date in the input string
    for example: 10/8/2008  in TestSTAND input string in popup message.
     I assume this is a string
    how do I compare this date to today date or any other date.?
    Does TestSTAND have a TestSTAND Date data type?
    Hi,
    No TestStand doesn't have a Date type.
    The Date() function returns a string i.e "20/10/2008". Therefore, providing you entered in the same format you could do a StrComp(Locals.DateEntered, Locals.CurrentDate) which if the same would return 0.
    But you could get Date() to return the individual Year, Month, Day values then you could do a check on these values. Check out the syntax in the Function Browser.
    Hope this helps
  • Best data type in mySQL for an Image
    What would be the preferred data type in mySQL to store an image
    (jpeg or png)?
    I would think BLOB would serve this purpose best.
    Who is currently doing this and what data type are you using?
    Regards,
    Scott
    Hi GIlly,
    well, we all agreed that the best field type in which to store the image
    would me a blob. I still have not succeeded in storing an actual image
    in  MySQL database (see my post of July 4th).
    UbuntuPenguin has been giving me some ideas but  I can't get
    an image written to the DB. The trick is to encode the image into
    a byteArray and I have code for that and for the decode of the
    image when reading from the database.
    If you take the encoded byteArray and copy it by hand into a blob
    field in MySQL every thing is fine. I just can't get an HTTP service
    call to do it.
    Hi,
    In table j_1iexchdr, there are two fields
    RDOC     J_1IRDOC1     CHAR     10      Reference Document 1
    DOCNO     J_1IDOCNO     NUMC     10      Internal Excise Document Number
    RDOC is of character type and DOCNO is of numeric type.
    Your declaration for fields is :
    docno LIKE j_1iexchdr-rdoc,
    rdoc LIKE j_1iexchdr-rdoc,
    And in the select query you are trying to fetch docno which is of type j_1iexchdr-rdoc. SO, change your declaration from
    docno LIKE j_1iexchdr-rdoc,
    to
    docno LIKE j_1iexchdr-docno,
    This should solve your problem.
    Thanks,
    Archana
  • What is the data type for the Data Dashboard XY Graph?
    Hey all,
    I am playing with the new Data Dashboard (!!) on my iPad 2 and am having trouble setting up the shared variables that host data to the XY Graph.
    On my PC, in my Project (inside of a variable library) I have set up shared variables for all of the other controls/indicators available in the app; They all work great. However, I have not been able to identify the data type that is for the XY Graph in Data Dashboard. Of course, inside LabVIEW, I use a cluster of 2 arrays; this is not an available data type that I can select while creating a new variable on the hosting side. I have even gone so far as to create a custom control from my XYGraph in LabVIEW and then creating the data type "From Custom Control..." with no success.
    What gives? Am I missing something obvious? Thanks for the help!!
    Tom
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.
    Great question, Aerogoob.
    The XY graph can be bound to a 1d array of "points", where each point is a cluster of two numerics (X and Y). To create a shared variable of this type, you can set the data type to "From Custom Control..." in the shared variable properties dialog. Of course, first you'll have to build the custom control of the correct type: array of cluster of two numerics.
    If any of that doesn't make sense, please post back and we can walk you through it in more detail.
    Also, just for completeness, the chart indicator can be bound to a scalar numeric or to an array of numerics. The graph indicator can only be bound to an array of numerics.
  • Data type of preprend array size in Flatten To String block
    Hi
    The data type of the preprend array size in Flatten To String block is given as I32. Is it somehow possible to reduce the data type to I8, since the width and height of my array won't exceed 255 ?. I also need to do the same in Unflatten To String as well.
    The short answer is no.  This is because the index is an I32.  NI likes to keep integers as an I32 whenever possible for reasons like this.
    Since you are dealing with a 2D array (width and height), it will actually use 2 I32s before the actual data.
    As Ravens stated, you could put in your own array sizes before the array in the string.  But it is worth saving 6 bytes?  Not likely.
  • How to use the JE database with other data types than byte arrays?
    Hi! I searched the javadoc of Berkley DB JE, for a way to introduce entry (but I need also retrieve) data with other type than byte arrays, e.g. String, or anything else, as int may be, etc.
    Still, I didn't find any such way, because the main (only?!) method to entry data into an open database - according what I found in javadoc - is:
    "public OperationStatus put(Transaction txn, DatabaseEntry key, DatabaseEntry data) throws DatabaseException"
    and both this and the corresponding method for retrieves, are based on the same DatabaseEntry type, which allow only entry data on byte[] support.
    What if I need to use Strings or int, or even char? I must do a special conversion from these types, to byte[], to use the database?
    Thank you!
    </table>
    Regards
    Hi,
    You can use OOTB tables for this requirement as you are not changing the table definitions.
    No SQL change is required.
    You need to mention all the OOTB options when you say xml-combine as replace. Make sure that you are getting the correct repository xml file after combining by examining the template definition thro dyn admin.
    One more good practice is use reasonably greater value to the code to your custom option (instead of giving the next number) as it would help during migration.
    For Ex, in your example you have given code as 3 for your custom option. If ATG adds one more payment group they would use this code. If you use  something like 100, it avoids the rework during migration.
    Hope this helps.
    Keep posting the updates / questions.
