Teststand locks out Labview editing

When editing a LabView VI called by a TestStand step you have to click on the "Edit code.." or "Edit VI.." in order to gain access. If you have just run the step and open the file, the run arrow is disabled and editing is not possible. I assume this is because TestStand has loaded the file and will not allow another client to gain control of it in memory.
The problem is sometimes subVIs that the called VI use get into this locked mode. When this happens there seems to be know way to gain access unless you shutdown TestStand completely.
My question, what is going on here, and is there a way to gain access for editing without shutting down TestStand?

Your only other option to 'unload all' would be to set the per-step load and unload options via right-clicking on the step and selecting Properties.
On the step properties window, examine the tab for Run Options. Here you could tell just one step to unload its module after execution so that you can run a test, edit the VI, and run another test, etc (after you're done debugging you can set it back to its original unload setting). Maybe this will help.

Users locked out of editing Expense Reports

Hi There,
Users of the system are reporting that they are frequently unable to edit their expense reports, as the system incorrectly believes that they are attempting to edit reports in multiple sessions.
A general error is occurring in which the user will be editing an expense report and will perform an action such as closing the browser, closing a browser window/tab or even simply exiting an expense report while using the application.
After returning to the report, an error message appears saying that they are editing the expense report even though they only have one session open.
This would suggest that upon performing such an action, the original session becomes stuck while editing the report, resulting in users having to wait long periods of time before this stuck session is automatically closed.
Is this a commonly known problem, and is there any way that this can be fixed?

Tom,
It's one of the biggest pains of the system! Requests have been submitted to SAP numerous times to stop locking people out of editing their reports for silly reasons that you mention. I am not sure if they have any intention of improving it.
There is a trick to unlocking the report for editing though.
- log off the system
- attempt to log back on with the wrong password
- then log back on with the correct one
This action has worked 100% of the time in unlocking a report for edit.

HELP!! My User-Name isn't working. I'm locked out of editing my settings :(

I tried going into my Time Machine setting to change them and it prompted me to log in "as an administrator" to make changes. It says "Type an administrators name and password to make changes". I didn't know what this meant because usually my name is already in the "Name" field and all I have to do is put in my password. Now, both fields are blank, and when I fill in the name and password fields, it doesn't work. I don't know why. I'm sure the password is right but I I don't know how to determine the correct user name since mine doesn't work : (

Lock Out "Edit my Profile" Functionality

We have custom guest users that we need this functionality locked out completely and not obscurely. Of course we tried the suppression of the top bar already, but, its is still fairly possible for "creative" users to stumble upon the HTTP request parameter for it "in_hi_space=ProfileSettings", so we need these custom users to get locked out completely that even if they typed that request parameter in, they would be presented a login page or error since they do not have activity access to this piece of functionality. Problem is, by default, even these "custom" guest users are part of the "Everyone" group, and this group has this activity right by default. When we tried to remove it, we get the error in the page that states "...Group is locked, cannot apply any changes..." or something to that effect. Does anyone know some techniques in UI mod we can use to get around this problem with the "Everyone" activity rights modifications?

Hi Ray,
Which version of the portal are you running? You should be able to remove the Edit Own Profile activity right from the Everyone group. If you are getting errors saying that it is locked, try going to the "Release Item Locks" utility and see if you can unlock the group from there. Then remove the activity right from the group.
Once you have that done, I would recommend creating a new group that is equivalent to the Everyone group, minus the custom guest user. Then re-add the activity right to this new group, so that everyone else can still edit their own profiles. What this will do is remove the Edit User Profile link from the My Account page for the custom guest user.
However, as you mentioned, a malicious user could figure out the URL and go to the editor directly. This is a bug and will be fixed in the next release. If you need to prevent users from such access to the editor, it will require you to customize the UserProfileEditorModel to check for the activity right when the editor first starts.
Another option is to remove Read rights for the custom guest user from each Property's ACL. The guest user will still be able to get to the editor, but because he doesn't have Read rights, he won't be able to edit anything. The only other thing is that he won't be able to View User Profile. But I'm guessing that since it's a guest user, there won't be much useful profile information anyways, right?

Your pictures are just files in a folder somewhere on your harddrive. A simple search for a known file name in Windows Explorer will reveal their location.

Corrupted/Locked out apple ID "An Unknown Error has occurred" logging into support?

I was forced to use a different apple id to log into this support community because all attempts from different devices and browsers using another ID have ended up at the password prompt with "An unknown error has occurred" at the community login screen. The ID can still be "manged" and appears to be able to make purchases from the iTunes Store over the internet. A phone incident case number 388249960 was opened and I spent over an hour on the phone with this problem. The ID in question was set up more than two years ago to help with my wife's iPad 1 which we paid 800 plus for,,, all the storage and bells and whistles. Recently she started using the iTunes store to purchase and download television series and we got in trouble because her directories were filling the c:drive on a Vista Business computer she normally uses. Before starting to deal with the problem of storage, I tried to make sure everything was up to date and downloaded/installed the latest iTunes 11.0,1,, to her machine. I already had it on another machine running Windows 7 and two older Windows XP machines. All of them were "tested" for home networking to our Apple TV so that I could go to the TV and find a computer which could be used as a source for streaming music, videos, etc., etc. all based on her ID. As of this writing, I believe all of that functionality still exists, but, when I navigate to support and try to log in using her ID and password, I get re-prompted for the password and then "Locked Out" when "An Unknown Error Has Occurred" pops up above the login via the web site.
I am writing this after much agony and travial via an obsolete instance of Windows Explorer running on Windows XP Home Premium on an old portable using a newly created Apple ID which does not appear to have the same problems logging into the support community. Can anyone out there help me?
I have gone to war with Comcast's "free" security enhancement software "Constant Guard" believing that it might be the source. This machine had it installed at one time and has had it completely removed, but... it still experiences the error when my wife's ID is used.
The issue may be related to the recently added requirement for secuity questions and recovery email addresses which I tried to address for her ID and inadvertently ran into conflict/problem with using certain other email addresses with her ID. Perhaps something is corrupted in the database for her ID, or related to problems with support for esoteric things like Microsoft's .NET enhancements which I have long been using on my computers, or possibly Constant Guard "started" the problem because it was probably running when account security data was being updated via the Apple web site? I tried to get information about what I thought was the "recovery email address" associated with her account and was told by Apple Web sites that it was "in use" as an apple ID and could not be used as her recovery address. When I called trying to confirm that this ID was "mine" I was able to provide one of two security clearance pieces of data, but not enough information to get the support person to straighten things out for me. I ended up creating "yet another" ID just to get clear of the mess.
I made a suggestion to one of the folks I spoke with that an improvement to the functionality of apple ID's would be to support "consolidation" of accounts so that if several different Apple devices had been registered with different ID's and they all belonged to the same user(s) that a "common ID" could be created.
I'm reluctant to post apple ID's in a public support forum, and would prefer to deal with this by private email. or phone.

How to change your Administration Server password when you're locked out
The Netscape server products are all managed by a single administration
server, which gives you a web forms-based interface you can use to
configure them, start/stop them, check their logs, and so forth.

There are three levels of protection that keep the general public from
being able to get into your administration server and mess up the
configuration of any Netscape servers you have installed:

<OL>
<LI> Obscurity: Your administration server can run on any port you'd
like (usually something between 81 and 30,000), so if an attacker
doesn't know what port to find your admin server on, he can't get
into it.
<LI> Host restrictions: You can tell your admin server to only allow
connections from specific hosts, and to reject all other hosts.

<LI> Password protection: Even if a user connects to your admin server
from a valid host, he won't be allowed to get into even the first
page unless he presents a valid username and password.
</OL>

If you, the legitimate administrator of your web server, are unable to
access the administration server (if you forgot your password or the
admin port number or if you accidentally locked your own site out),
then here is how to get past each of these levels of protection:

<OL>
<LI> If you don't remember what port your administration server is
running on, just look in your "ns-admin.conf" file, which is in
the "admserv" directory under your Netscape server directory.
(For 1.x web servers on Windows NT, run "regedt32" and go to the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Netscape\Administration" section).
You will see a "Port" entry there that specifies what port your
admin server is on. You can change this value if you want your
admin server to run on a different port, but make sure you restart
the admin server after you change the value.

<LI> If your admin server is complaining "Unauthorized host" when you
try to connect to it, then you can open it up to all sites by
going into the "ns-admin.conf" file or the "Administration"
section of your NT registry, as described above, and deleting the
lines for "Hosts" and "Addresses" (either one of those might not
be present) then restarting your admin server (on Unix run
"stop-admin" then "start-admin"; on NT go into the Services
control panel and stop/start the "Netscape Administration" or
"Netscape Admin Server" service). You will then be able to get
back into the admin server, where you can then try new settings
for your host and address restrictions if you wish.

<LI> If you have forgotten the password to your admin server and now
you can't log into your admin pages, all is not lost! Go into
your "ns-home" directory, and into the "admserv" directory under
that. You should find an "admpw" text file containing a simgle
line of text, something like this:

The first part of that line is the name of your admin account
(usually just "admin"), and the second part is your admin
password, encrypted. Edit this file to remove the encrypted
password so that your file looks like this:
admin:
Then shut down your admin server, bring it back up again, and log
into your admin server but don't give any password. It should let
you in, at which point you can then go to the appropriate
configuration page to set a new admin password, and then you're
back in business.
</OL>
Note that because it is so easy to change the admin password this
way, it's good to periodically make certain that your admin
password file and your web server's configuration files are not
left world-writable, and that only trusted people have access to
them. (By default they're not world-writable, but it's good to
make sure of this from time to time.)

If you mean that yu forgo the password for yur encrypted backup then you can only:
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

Office 2010 & 2007 - Excel and Access File Locking Out On the Network With Multiple Users

An issue that's happening is that Excel and Access files are locking on the network. We're currently using Office 2007 and 2010.
Here are some different scenarios that are happening:
When opening the file it is locked out by “User X” which is the person that has the file locked out and no one else can open the file.
When opening the file it is locked out by “User Y” which is NOT the actual person, but is locked out by “User X” and no one else can access the file.
When opening the file it is locked out by “…another user” which is generic and no one else can access the file.
The two more common events are incident 1 and 2 with 3 happening the less common.
This message will continue until the sessions are closed through computer management on the file server.
The file server is running Windows Server 2003.
This does happen on both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients.
This does happen for users using Office 2007 and Office 2010.
There are two sets of Office 2010 Users when it comes to patches. Everyone has the most current patches with Office 2010 SP2 while anyone that has Microsoft Project 2010 is using all the current update before Office 2010 SP2.
All users that are using Office 2007 have all the current patches and service packs.
Another variable is that we have users that will leave a file open on the network for 3+ days and after a while it will lock the file out.
Also we have Shadow Copy that runs daily on the system which I'm not for sure if that impacts anything if a file is opening during that time.
Any ideas on how to mitigate the lock out issues would be appreciated.

Edit November 12, 2013: This issue can occur if and if not another person actually has the file open. If the person doesn't have the file open then there is a hung connection which needs to be disconnected by going to the Computer Management of the File
server.

I know that the description of the hotfix does not relate to the issue. The purpose is to install it for upgrading SMB related file.

HT201365 I had to change my email address because I was locked out of my previous address and change my Apple ID password due to the iOS 7 upgrade. Now iCloud will not recognize my new address nor my new password. Everything else on my apple devices accep

I was forced to change my email address, (was locked out of it). I also was forced to change my Apple password due to the iOS 7 upgrade. Everything on my iPhone and iPad, including iTunes, accepted my new email address change, except iCloud. And because I was forced to change my password, it doesn't recognize my old password or new password either. There is no way I can find to change my email address on iCloud, and so I'm stuck. I cannot delete iCloud account without proper email and password and it still shows my old email and doesn't allow it to be changed.

If Settings>iCloud is showing your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Is it possible to lock out the Key Board commands in Keynote?

Is it possible to lock out your key board actions in Keynote? This happened all of a sudden. My keyboard has no effect on my trying to change text colors or enter characters. By using the mouse to add text the text box appears but I cannot change the character color.I can change it with the mouse and the new color is displayed but when I type nothing appears as the default color is white and the background is white. I did a copy and paste from a previous slide and I can enter the line to start editing but nothing appears. Nor can I delete anything with the Key board. This is only happening in Keynote. If I use the Key Board to send an email everything works fine. Can type and use the delete button so it seems that the Key Board is fine with other Apps, this is just happening in Keynote. It seems like the Key Board actions are not taking place, it is as if the Key Board is locked out of the Keynote functions.

Try resetting Keynote as follows:
remove Keynote version 6.5, you must use an application removal tool for this procedure to work: Appcleaner is free, I use Appzapper
empty the trash
Shut Down the Mac (Apple menu > Shut Down)
wait 10 seconds, then press the power button
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key, release the Shift key when you see the grey Apple screen
start up will take a few minutes longer than usual as the Mac is performing a repair routine
restart the Mac normally, (don’t hold down any keys during startup)
install Keynote from the Mac App Store

Lock out Code does not work

Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 .... I register, get the email with the lock out code, enter it and it just kicks me out of the program. The first couple of times it let me in, but the next time I went back into it, the registration screen came back up again.

and I fill out the Product Registration form, click on Register.
In rapid sequence it says Attempting to Connect, Sending and

Of course, typing the above URL into any browser *including*
the IE on the box in question immediately gets a page that
would make perfect sense to display, but apparently Adobe
doesn't play well with an IE7 system or there are more
fundamental issues here.
And to top it all off, you never get the unlock code by mail either,
despite a TCP snooper showing the information being transmitted.
Running the registration via Help->Registration over and over
yields the same failure results.
Completely deinstalled all Adobe components and re-downloaded and re-installed
and got same results. Even allowed it to apply the
3.01
update and that didn't help either, so my allowed run counter
is quickly approaching zero, as it is so good about remembering
that across a deinstall-reinstall.
Oh well, back to de-install it goes. It clearly isn't going
to be usable because of the security bugs before it isn't usable
because of the security features.

How about invoking the bash shell as described in this wiki article
This method launches bash instead of the init scripts at boot time, so it does not boot to a very usable state. But you will be in bash as root. Use passwd to change the password for root, and reboot

User settings reset and locked out of user folders ! How do I retreive?

I'm sure a number of people here on the forums have come across the problem with the blue tint that appears every now and then. It usually appears when connecting an external monitor after the you come back from the screen saver.
Yesterday it happened for the first time without an external monitor connected. I have found a number of sites that have suggested using the command 'sudo chmod 664 *' within the Terminal. I have used it a couple of times to fix this problem but it did not work hence the reason it happened yesterday without a monitor connected. When I did use this command previously I first entered
cd /library/colorsync/profiles/display
When i did it for this occassion i forgot to enter the display folder first.
After this I did a restart and all my user settings were reset and I was locked out of all my user folders. I lost all my desktop settings and everything was back to when I first started my computer.
I did some hunting and found the command 'sudo chmod 777'. I tried this then did a reset and my desktop background returned and the folders were unlocked.
What I want to know is if this is the correct command to bring everything back to normal?
My user permissions in terminal are listed below

No necessarily, it depends whether you just changed your home folders and nothing else.
But just your home folders present a problems as they should have extended attributes which are now removed. More on that later.
Using one chmod to a directory affects all equally, though the files may have individually different permissions.
I don't know how extensively you have altered the modes permissions, but from what you have shown in your first post your Home folders are incorrect.
For your home folder, which is the default location when you start Terminal, and I dont think you have strayed from there, all the listings, except Parallels are folders, prefaced with the letter d. for folder.
On my machine, for example, the pattern for the home folders all show
drwx------@ 5 xxxxxx staff 170 25 Jun 06:07 Desktop
normally that would be chmod 700 Desktop which will get you
drwx------
but note the @ which shows an extended attribute or ACL in Leopard.
to write the ACL shown as @
You will need to read
man chmod about ACL MANIPULATION OPTIONS
Personally, I think that playing around with chmod without a backup was not a good idea, and I wonder if your ambition has exceeded your knowledge. Sorry if that sounds tough, but a possible Archive and Install may be your safest path I think because what you have messed with was no small oops with a simple fix.
You could just change those home folders to chmod 700 and see how it goes without the attribute, or bite the bullet and do an Archive and Install.
I do not run parallels and so have no idea what is permissions should be.

ENHANCEMENT syntax errors locking out "change enhancement"

I am changeing an ENHANCEMENT and did a syntax check. the syntax check failed. Editting is now locked out and when I place the cursor on the Enhancement statement and go to Edit > Enhancement Operations > Change Enhancement.
the "Position the cursor on an ENHANCEMENT statement" error statement appears even though the cursor was there.
I tried to "UNDO" the Enhancement So that I could put the correct code in. But,the same syntax error appears even though the bad code is not on the screen.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Reinstalling OS ...locked out

first time user....my disgruntled X has put a password on my computer which never had one before..thus i am 128 bit locked out...after spending two days looking at apples site i have come to the conclusion than all is lost and i must reformat my drive and reinstall my OS ....good news all my editing and important files are on external drives..please help me answer this dilema..(how can i reformate and then reinstall my OS on a system that i no longer have acess to...) thank you very much

Where are you being asked for the password? At the login screen or when the computer is turned on, before the apple logo?
If it is before the Apple logo, it is an Open Firmware password. To remove this password:
1) Add or remove DIMMs to change the total amount of RAM in the computer.
2) Then, the PRAM must be reset 3 times. (Command + Option + P + R).
If it's a login password, you can just start up the computer from the 10.4 installer CD and install on top of it. Before you do this however, you can try to reset the password in the installer.
Alternatively, if your ex has been vindictive and turned on file vault and encrypted all your files, there is no way to get the data back without the password, but the programs should all still be there unencrypted.
If the data on there is important, you might want to consider a lawyer to send a letter threatening referral to law enforcement for investigation for computer misuse if he doesn't hand over the password.
