Text buttons and roll over

Hi
I have text buttons and want to make the text bold when the user rolls over. (this is a menu)
Are there any other ways besides having the text as a master slide and then click boxes and roll overs, I realise I can do text buttons but there is a small icon that I need at the front of the text which will also need to be clickable.

Bold only when rolling over? That means that you will not be able to use it for HTML5 output? Only SWF is OK?
My first idea is to use the EventHandler widget of InfoSemantics (not free but you can download a trial version), because it can create a rollover event for your text button. Anyway you'll have to create a transparent text container (shape or caption) that has the Bold Text and appears when rolling over. If you don't want to go with that widget, you can simulate the same by using the Rollover slidelet (you'll need only the Area, can drag the Slidelet itself outside of the sldie), that has a rollover event that can trigger an action to show that previously hidden transparent text.

Here is the problematic:
1° How can i change the color of the text on a button in Roll Over or Click state (Cs5.5)
- I've many button in a doc im creating
- the color of the buttons is white with black stoke & black text
- in roll over state i want them to inverse the color coding (the text white & bottom black)
- currently the text becomes invisible as black on black cant be seen (ive stroked it white but that looks ugly)
- i would just like to know if there is a function made for this?
My other questions:
2° Ive a presentation on which Ive created buttons which tigger pop-up animations
- i have 5 buttons which trigger animations
- the viewer can chose to Click on any of the buttons randomly
- the problem is once the animation is open how can it be close... either:
a) by it self after "40" seconds
b) when ther viewer clicks another button
3° Ive created buttons linking pages..
- "go to page xxx"
- when i do a preview and click on the buttons the links dont take me to the right pages
- is that normal? (maybe in preview its suppose to be like that)
4° I would like to intergrate YouTube videos in the presentation so they play inside the docment.. when i tried.. it said the 'link isnt a flash video'
- what should i do?
5° Once i export it into Swf. how how can i visualize it? or put it online?

You should setup Object Styles - these can also include Paragarph Styles that can be triggered when the Style is selected.

InDesign won't link directly to youtube videos. I think your best bet would be to use Downloader to download the video and embed them directly in Indesign.
5° Once i export it into Swf. how how can i visualize it? or put it online?

You can look up how to embed a SWF file into your HTML - but it depends what you mean by "online" there's a dozen ways to get a file "online".

Flex and roll-over pop-ups.

My application is similar to a map with roll-over/roll-out popup boxes. Instead of a map, it is a process "chart" with about 50 "buttons" (in AS3 they are dynamic MovieClips) in about 50 different charts. In the end there will be about 2500 color-coded roll-over/roll-out popups in 50 different "pages.", each with text and two "buttons" to launch a SWF or a PDF.
Been learning Flex on and off for a year or so and I'm hypothesizing that Flex would make this app more maintainable and possibly more achievable. Can anyone respond in general to the popup and maintenance issues?

Thanks for your input. It was helpful to know that it is probably doable - at least seemingly from my description. As I "mess around" in FlexBuilder, I can see that it will be very doable and probably more so than simply using Flash/AS3.
By the way, I used the word "chart" a bit loosely. My application more resembles color-coded columns, each with a handful of text lables that act as Roll-Over buttons with textual information, but that also launch an interactive instructional SWF or a PDF (for that particular subject). I'm now wondering if I should use a drop down "something or other" to give the learner an option to play the swf, or get the PDF, then use a tool tip for the textual information?

Menu's photoshop buttons not rolling over

Hello all,
I have created some layered buttons in photoshop. All is well, they roll over and work lovely in simulator but when I create a build and open it in the Macintosh DVD player the rollovers dont roll!
What am I doing wrong?

Repeat after me: DVD is not Flash, DVD is not Flash, DVD is not Flash...
The majority of DVD players don't have the option of rolling over as the majority of DVD players don't have a mouse attached to them.
Layered menus use a behind-the-scenes trick to do their work, involving a series of normal menus connected with auto-activating buttons. However, you wouldn't want buttons to auto-activate with a simple rollover in a software DVD player. Therefore, software players require two clicks for layered menus: one to select (which actually just triggers the auto-activating button and hops to the "selected" menu layer), and another to activate.
Yet another reason not to use layered menus, IMO.

Slicing and roll over effects

I am trying to create a roll over image effect that is giving
me a hard time. I have a picture of apple pie, with 6 slices. I
wanted to have a pop up window display with the ingredients for
each slice a person rolled the mouse over.
(6 different slices making one whole pie apple, blueberry,
cherry, etc you get the idea). When I tried this in image ready, I
had the slices cut up, but the pop up window was larger than the
actual slice, so only a portion of the info displayed. Is there a
way I can create a slice and have the roll over effect or pop up
window display larger than the hotspot slice? Its kinda hard to
describe, but I think you can understand what Im trying to do. The
ingredients list is much larger then the pie slice hotspot.
I cannot get my brain around how to make this happen. I know
theres a way, I just dont know how.

A rollover replaces one image with another. You can do a
standard rollover, replacing the image your mouse rolls over or a
disjoint rollover, where you replace a different image.
A pop-up generally requires a click and is done in
JavaScript. In the pop-up window, you can specify whether or not
you have scroll bars.
You might also check into setting overlapping divs and
changing the visibility of the layers depending on mouse movement,
but...that's probably going to require you to code the JavaScript
by hand.
Anyway, what is it you want? A rollover image or a pop-up
window?

Help with buttons and hovering over them

Hey all,
I'm having trouble with a certain portion of code that I can't seem to get. What I want to do is display some sort of text when I hover the mouse over a specific button. I do not want to do this with a tool tip as there are other issues with using that method. So I need to print out something onto a JLabel whenever the JButton has the mouse over it. The catch is, the button may or may not have the current focus. How would I go about doing this? I have worked on it for a couple hours now and cannot figure it out. Thanks for the help.

how would i differentiate between each specific button that has this listener? what i mean is i have about 8 different buttons that i want to do this for, so would the code go like this:

Guided Simulations and roll-overs

Hi folks
I'm in need of some help.
I'm a follower of the Tell me, Show me , Help me ,Let me learning flow.
I'm creating some trainig for a browser presented software product.
I've already created
1) a nicely interactive explanation of the process that they will follow (The Tell me)
2) a step by step demonstration that explains what is being done.
What I'm now trying to create is the 'Help me' portion where I'll be looking for the learner to do the right thing with the mouse and keyboard.
My dificulty is that much of the information that the product provides is by way of mouse over pop-ups.
I can recreate these easily with either Rollover images or rollover slidelets but I'm not clear how to make the module pause and continue when I want it to.
The flow I'm trying to get them to follow is
Hover over portion 1 on the scree to view the popup that comes from there.
Based on the content there, go to another portion of the screen and check the information there.
Click on a third portion of the screen.
Check some displayed information
Based on the content there go to another postion of the screen where a checkbox appears on mouse over.
Select the check-box.
.... and so on.
Any tips?

Hi Alan,
Think you'll need good planning and probably some advanced actions. The easiest way will certainly be to have the content distributed over different slides. But some of the actions you describe (like rollover) will not be able to trigger an action to Jump to the next slide, unless you use a Rollover Slidelet because that object has two possible events that can trigger an action: On Rollover, On Click.
If everything is really in an imposed sequence, putting the objects on the timeline in sequence could already solve part of your goal. And to avoid the playhead continuing when clicking on an interactive object like a click box, you can replace the simple action by a standard advanced action:

For the 'Based on the content there go....' you'll need branching to another slide; I would not recommend doing that on the same slide at all.

To clarify, a subscription to the PS+LR Photography Plan has a different LR license than your current serial-number-licensed LR, and each license-type can be installed on 2 computers, so you could have LR on up to four computers, two of which can be running the CC licensed version of LR along with the CC-licensed version of PS, and two running the serial-number-licensed LR without PS-CC.
If you have your catalog and photos on an external drive that you can swap between the various computers, then you could use any of the up-to-four to work with your photos. You could also have as separate catalog on each of the up-to-four computers, but then syncing would get complicated if you try to do that on more than one LR catalog, I think, though I could be wrong, because I only use LR Mobile with one catalog, currently.

Roll over hit button works only sometimes

OKay, I have a drop down menu. Around the menu I have a button surrounding the outside, so when I roll away from the drop down menu and roll over the outline button, it is coded with action script to make the drop down menu fade away. HOWEVER.....sometimes....when i roll over the button fast it doesnt seem to catch it...Is there anyway to fix this?

Have you tried increasing the size of the text box? Sometimes with filters, you're actually increasing the size of the font, like you would with bold text etc, try making the text box slightly larger area than currently see if that fixes it.

Hovering mouse over a button and painting

The following code is what I have to try to paint a rectangle when ever I hover over a button. This rectangle will show a brief description of what the button will do. I'm doing something similar when pressing the help button and hovering over something a description in a rectangle shows up. But I cannot get the paint method to work. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this.

For instance, you shouldn't be calling the paint method directly.
Also, do you want to be doing this Graphics? Would it be easier to just add a tool tip to your button (i.e., use setToolTipText(...))?

Help needed with buttons and hit areas

I have a very simple need. To give a button a roll over
behavior, which I have done, and to set up a hit area which I have
also done. Why is it that the buttons work great with "enable
simple buttons" in effect, but when i test movie, the hit areas do
not work (no roll over effect) or even change to a finger cursor
like it ought to?

Text Buttons won't highlight in Simulator or on DVD

I'm having some difficulties getting text only buttons to roll over to selected or activated colors in simulator, and on a burned dvd. In viewer, they change colors as I change button state view, but once I go to simulator, they stay white.
I can look at the log window and see that I'm scrolling over them, and they corrctly point to their target when I click on them, but no color change?
I've tried a million combinations, and nothing seems to work.
Any help would be appreciated, as my mind is nearly gone!!

Did you include the text in the highlight (by checking box in the inspector?) It sounds like you used this technique (typing text as oppossed to using tifs, picts etc.)

Also rollovers will not work on anything but computers, whaat you should bee doing is using the north/south/east/west buttons

Roll Over Help

Hey Guys,
Today I'm tring to create a roll over effect. I have 4 Pictures: Let's Say A B C D. If I roll over A I want the other picture to have a transparent light box on top so it looks like A is the main focus. So if you roll over A the other pictures will turn dark and A will keep its color. I can do this by making A a symbol and then putting a transparent png dark box on top of B C D. That works. What doesnt work is when I go back to the original time frame and make B a button also. WHen I add the roll over effect, it only does it for that. Let me show you in pictures.

Simple Roll over help

Basically I have a picture of myself... with my head looking at 4 different angles from up to down..
I attached a screenshot...
I want the whole flash mapped so that when you mouse is in the upper portion the head is looking up then when you scroll down a little it switches to a lower picture etc...(i know it won't be smooth transitions)
I don't want this to act as buttons; as in sending you anywhere... just large rollovers... the buttons (Graphics, Vector art etc...) will be there own buttons with roll overs when you get right over them...
Unless its better to combine... But I want the heads to look no matter where you are in that portion of the flash.... and the directing buttons (graphics, vector art, etc...) Just to have a roll over when you right on top of them
:::I tried making buttons with 2 layers with the top layer having a big Hit zone but it doesn't work...
