Guided Simulations and roll-overs

Hi folks
I'm in need of some help.
I'm a follower of the Tell me, Show me , Help me ,Let me learning flow.
I'm creating some trainig for a browser presented software product.
I've already created
1) a nicely interactive explanation of the process that they will follow (The Tell me)
2) a step by step demonstration that explains what is being done.
What I'm now trying to create is the 'Help me' portion where I'll be looking for the learner to do the right thing with the mouse and keyboard.
My dificulty is that much of the information that the product provides is by way of mouse over pop-ups.
I can recreate these easily with either Rollover images or rollover slidelets but I'm not clear how to make the module pause and continue when I want it to.
The flow I'm trying to get them to follow is
Hover over portion 1 on the scree to view the popup that comes from there.
Based on the content there, go to another portion of the screen and check the information there.
Click on a third portion of the screen.
Check some displayed information
Based on the content there go to another postion of the screen where a checkbox appears on mouse over.
Select the check-box.
.... and so on.
Any tips?

Hi Alan,
Think you'll need good planning and probably some advanced actions. The easiest way will certainly be to have the content distributed over different slides. But some of the actions you describe (like rollover) will not be able to trigger an action to Jump to the next slide, unless you use a Rollover Slidelet because that object has two possible events that can trigger an action: On Rollover, On Click.
If everything is really in an imposed sequence, putting the objects on the timeline in sequence could already solve part of your goal. And to avoid the playhead continuing when clicking on an interactive object like a click box, you can replace the simple action by a standard advanced action:

For the 'Based on the content there go....' you'll need branching to another slide; I would not recommend doing that on the same slide at all.

Text buttons and roll over

Hi
I have text buttons and want to make the text bold when the user rolls over. (this is a menu)
Are there any other ways besides having the text as a master slide and then click boxes and roll overs, I realise I can do text buttons but there is a small icon that I need at the front of the text which will also need to be clickable.

Bold only when rolling over? That means that you will not be able to use it for HTML5 output? Only SWF is OK?
My first idea is to use the EventHandler widget of InfoSemantics (not free but you can download a trial version), because it can create a rollover event for your text button. Anyway you'll have to create a transparent text container (shape or caption) that has the Bold Text and appears when rolling over. If you don't want to go with that widget, you can simulate the same by using the Rollover slidelet (you'll need only the Area, can drag the Slidelet itself outside of the sldie), that has a rollover event that can trigger an action to show that previously hidden transparent text.

Flex and roll-over pop-ups.

My application is similar to a map with roll-over/roll-out popup boxes. Instead of a map, it is a process "chart" with about 50 "buttons" (in AS3 they are dynamic MovieClips) in about 50 different charts. In the end there will be about 2500 color-coded roll-over/roll-out popups in 50 different "pages.", each with text and two "buttons" to launch a SWF or a PDF.
Been learning Flex on and off for a year or so and I'm hypothesizing that Flex would make this app more maintainable and possibly more achievable. Can anyone respond in general to the popup and maintenance issues?

Thanks for your input. It was helpful to know that it is probably doable - at least seemingly from my description. As I "mess around" in FlexBuilder, I can see that it will be very doable and probably more so than simply using Flash/AS3.
By the way, I used the word "chart" a bit loosely. My application more resembles color-coded columns, each with a handful of text lables that act as Roll-Over buttons with textual information, but that also launch an interactive instructional SWF or a PDF (for that particular subject). I'm now wondering if I should use a drop down "something or other" to give the learner an option to play the swf, or get the PDF, then use a tool tip for the textual information?

Slicing and roll over effects

I am trying to create a roll over image effect that is giving
me a hard time. I have a picture of apple pie, with 6 slices. I
wanted to have a pop up window display with the ingredients for
each slice a person rolled the mouse over.
(6 different slices making one whole pie apple, blueberry,
cherry, etc you get the idea). When I tried this in image ready, I
had the slices cut up, but the pop up window was larger than the
actual slice, so only a portion of the info displayed. Is there a
way I can create a slice and have the roll over effect or pop up
window display larger than the hotspot slice? Its kinda hard to
describe, but I think you can understand what Im trying to do. The
ingredients list is much larger then the pie slice hotspot.
I cannot get my brain around how to make this happen. I know
theres a way, I just dont know how.

A rollover replaces one image with another. You can do a
standard rollover, replacing the image your mouse rolls over or a
disjoint rollover, where you replace a different image.
A pop-up generally requires a click and is done in
JavaScript. In the pop-up window, you can specify whether or not
you have scroll bars.
You might also check into setting overlapping divs and
changing the visibility of the layers depending on mouse movement,
but...that's probably going to require you to code the JavaScript
by hand.
Anyway, what is it you want? A rollover image or a pop-up
window?

Lightroom Mobile app says I'm running on a trial but I have been using LR 5 for quite some time now on my laptop. Will my trial expire and roll over to my account, or will I have to pay?

To clarify, a subscription to the PS+LR Photography Plan has a different LR license than your current serial-number-licensed LR, and each license-type can be installed on 2 computers, so you could have LR on up to four computers, two of which can be running the CC licensed version of LR along with the CC-licensed version of PS, and two running the serial-number-licensed LR without PS-CC.
If you have your catalog and photos on an external drive that you can swap between the various computers, then you could use any of the up-to-four to work with your photos. You could also have as separate catalog on each of the up-to-four computers, but then syncing would get complicated if you try to do that on more than one LR catalog, I think, though I could be wrong, because I only use LR Mobile with one catalog, currently.

Roll Over Help

Hey Guys,
Today I'm tring to create a roll over effect. I have 4 Pictures: Let's Say A B C D. If I roll over A I want the other picture to have a transparent light box on top so it looks like A is the main focus. So if you roll over A the other pictures will turn dark and A will keep its color. I can do this by making A a symbol and then putting a transparent png dark box on top of B C D. That works. What doesnt work is when I go back to the original time frame and make B a button also. WHen I add the roll over effect, it only does it for that. Let me show you in pictures.

Roll over hit button works only sometimes

OKay, I have a drop down menu. Around the menu I have a button surrounding the outside, so when I roll away from the drop down menu and roll over the outline button, it is coded with action script to make the drop down menu fade away. HOWEVER.....sometimes....when i roll over the button fast it doesnt seem to catch it...Is there anyway to fix this?

Have you tried increasing the size of the text box? Sometimes with filters, you're actually increasing the size of the font, like you would with bold text etc, try making the text box slightly larger area than currently see if that fixes it.

You have to put them on the server where you are publishing your site to. Where are you hosting your site? If it's a MobileMe account then you have two options:
1 - put the photos in a folder, name it "Pics" and put that folder in your iDisk/Pictures folder. Then use the following URL: http://homepage.mac.com/YourMMe_Account_Name/.Pictures/Pic/FileName (don't forget the period before Pictures).
2 - put the "Pics" folder with image files in your iDisk/Web/Sites folder and use the following URL: http://web.me.com/YourMMe_Account_Name/FileName.
If you're hosting on a 3rd party server it would depend on if you're using a domain name or not. I'm not familiar with 3rd party servers so Wyodor, Ethmoid or someone that is will need to point the way.

Creating an interactive CV: mouse over / roll over pop ups, embedded documents and videos

Hi everyone,
I am pretty new to Adobe Acrobat Pro and new to this forum (1st post here!). Greetings from Spain... and apologies for grammar mistakes and misleading explanations (in advance). I have been checking this forum and googling quite a bit, but I do not get to many conclusions (maybe I sleep few due to our baby!).
I want to create an interactive CV with the following characteristics:
1) CV in 1 page in a PDF document (no problem here!)
2) Hyperlinks in the text which open embedded files (pdf of others) hidden to the viewer but which are in the pdf document. Possible? (I want the recruiter to receive just one file). Even better if they could be open in another window (doubt it).
How could it be done? I try add documents and they are attached at the end, so the original pdf gets to have more pages, all viewable.
3) Furthermore, mouse over / roll over pop ups which show you a preview of the file you may open clicking the hyperlink, for a quick view of the content.
I think that this may be done, but using other programs, like InDesign. I just try to add a document, but it's sort of a link to a document in my computer. I may add pdf, pps files.
4) Even more, would it be possible to embed a video which would open in a new window? If not, I tried to add a link to youtube and there was a warning as "this program tries to open a window, if you trust the owner... " (similar safety message) and the very last thing I want the recruiter to have to decide whether to decide to watch it or not.
I know its a questions in its very first stages, but the big point is to know if/what it is possible to do, so that I search in the right direction.
If you have any idea or advice (even if not related to PDF pro, of course), just please let me know.

(3) Right, I could not find either a way using just Acrobat Pro (I'm using XI). Sad thing that you confirm it... But it looks like you may do it using other programs on the PDF, but I don't know to use them. You may take a look at this:

What is this called: When you roll over a small photo and
above it (or beside) the large version of the photo is displayed. I
would like to create a photo gallery that works this way. Could
someone tell me what this is called? Or better yet, where I can
learn how to do this? A free tutorial perhaps?

I don't know that the phenomenon has one ultimately correct
name. I
might call that a "click to enlarge" or "rollover to enlarge"
effect.

Flash generally provides many ways to accomplish a desired
task. One of
the easiest ways I can think of to get what you're after is
to create a
button symbol. Put your small image (the "thumbnail," it's
usually called)
into the button's Up frame. Put the large image in the
button's Over (and
perhaps Down) frame. In the Hit frame, put a shape that
represents where
you want someone to roll over in order for the Over frame to
show.
Typically, you'd just put the thumbnail into the Hit frame at
the same
horizontal and vertical position it was in the Up frame.
You could also program this effect with ActionScript, but
since you
posted in the general forum, let's see what you make of the
button approach.

Roll-over and pop-up

I have a simple roll-over and upon click I'd like for a small
window to pop up. After I create the page and the roll-over and
pop-up, I test it to find it isn't acting as expected. Instead of
onr pop-up, I get at least three and they are all of different
sizes. Any advice?

Call T-Code RSA1> Search for your Info Cube > Click on Manage and follow the below mentioned steps for
Roll up
1. Click on Roll up Tab in 'Manage Info Provider' Screen
2. By default 'Request ID' in Roll up section will be filled with latest Request ID of the data loaded. All the requests before your latest request with be Rolled up.
3. Click on execute > click on Display external Jobs (Next to execute button) and monitor it.
4. Once the Roll Up job Completes successfully > Click on Requests Tab in the Manage Info Provider Screen > you will find a tick mark in Roll up status, which confirms your task.
Compression
1. Click on Collapse Tab in 'Manage Info Provider' Screen
2. By default 'Request ID' in Collapse section will be filled with latest Request ID of the data loaded. All the requests before your latest request with be Compressed.
3. Click on Release > click on Display external Jobs (Next to Release button) and monitor it.
4. Once the Compression job Completes successfully > Click on Requests Tab in the Manage Info Provider Screen > you will find a tick mark in Compression status, which confirms your task.

When I enter time machine (on Time Capsule) i see the stack of screen shots and the time line. However, when I roll over the mouse pointer, the time line does not activate. The cancel button does not get me out of the app: have to alt cmd esc. Ideas?

Without knowing what happens when you try to restore the iPod
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
