Text on Path (k)

Is there way in Flash to put text on a path. So that text
flows around a
circle?
I imported a PNG that had text around a circle and it popped
it back to
horizontal.
I converted the text to outlines in Fireworks to overcome
this, but was
hoping there was a way to create this in Flash in case there
are text
changes.

Hopefully future versions will allow it.
Thanks,

  • Using Item UIDRef, can we get data as set in "text on path option" dailog box for each "text on path" item

    Hi all,
    I have a Item UIDRef but facing a problem for getting data as set in "text on path option" dailog box for each "text on path" item.
    What I did:
    - Getting the  pointer "IMainItemTOPData" using item UIDRef as
      InterfacePtr<IMainItemTOPData> mainItemTOPData(shapesUIDRef, UseDefaultIID());
    - This interface has the method GetTOPOptionData () which return ITOPOptionsData pointer
    - But SDK don't have "ITOPOptionsData" class implementation.
    Second Approch:
    - Used "ITextOnPathSelectionSuite" and getting the correct result for Desktop plugin.But I want the correct result in server plugin also.
    Anyone who has an idea how to get this using UIDRef, please let me know.

    Hi Pulse,
    Unfortunately, Flex doesn't currently support text on a path. However, I binged it and found this:

  • Change color of compoundPathItems created by converting Text to Paths using createOutline()

    I used createOutline() to convert Text to Paths. However, the return is a GroupItem and I had difficulty in changing its stroke and fill colors.
    Here is my script:
    var docActive = app.documents.add();
    var textFrame = docActive.pathItems.rectangle( 0, 0, 200, 20);
    var areaText = docActive.textFrames.areaText(textFrame);
    areaText.contents = "Hello My Friend";
    areaText.textRange.characterAttributes.size = Math.round(20*0.85);
    var textOutline = areaText.createOutline();
    // Trying to change stroke and fill colors of textOutline but got stuck here...

    try this, I added comments next to each line
    var docActive = app.documents.add();
    var textFrame = docActive.pathItems.rectangle( 0, 0, 200, 20);
    var areaText = docActive.textFrames.areaText(textFrame);
    areaText.contents = "Hello My Friend";
    areaText.textRange.characterAttributes.size = Math.round(20*0.85);
    var textOutline = areaText.createOutline(); // this is a group
    var compoundPaths = textOutline.compoundPathItems; // each letter is a compound path
    for (i=0; i<compoundPaths.length; i++) {    // loop thru all letters
        var compoundPath = compoundPaths[i];    // this holds one letter at a time
        var pathItems = compoundPath.pathItems; // all pieces (pathItems) of the compound path make up each letter
        for (j=0; j< pathItems.length; j++) {   // loop thru all letter parts
            var pathItem = pathItems[j];            // this holds one letter piece at a time
            pathItem.fillColor = docActive.swatches[5].color;       // fill it with the 5th swatch
            pathItem.strokeColor = docActive.swatches[4].color; // stroke it with the 4th swatch

  • Illustrator CS 5.1 Text On Path Transform Panel

    Just upgraded from CS4 to CS5.1. I noticed that when I have text on a path, and I try to use the Transform Panel to change the size of the text, it distorts the path. For example, if I make a 10" circle, and place text going around that circle, and then try to use the Transform Panel to put in a new width dimensions (say 5"), it distorts the path and text to an oval shape (wider than tall). I have contrain proportions selected, along with "Scale Strokes & Effects" and "Transform Both" checked on. I noticed this when I had a design I was working on. It was a panther mascot logo in a ciircle with text going around the circle. I tried to use the Transform Panel to change the size of the entire design, and it distorted everything. I problem solved and figured out the text on the path was the culprit. If I select everything excluding the text on the path, it will tranform correctly.
    Any insight as to how to resolve this issue (other than converting the text to paths) would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Yup, that worked, however I really don't like having to turn off preview bounds. I like getting accurate reading on dimensions, especially when objects have strokes on them. Is that a quirk with CS5? I worked with preview bounds turned on in CS4 with no issues. Thanks again for youer help.

  • Text along path from freehand to illustrator problem

    Does anyone know a workaround for text along path conversion from freehand to illustrator?
    The problem is text along path in freehand which is slightly moved along path.
    The result after conversion to illustrator is an invissible (exept a red+ where the text should be)text. Sometimes you can't even correct the problemtext so you had to place hundreds/thousends of text (streetmaps) again after conversion.
    Exporting the Freehand file as illustrator 7 gives a much better result for the text part. (the art works is in this case seperated into lines and fills)
    The message I get opening the illustrator file in CS3 is that legacy text should be updated, clicking the update button and text is looking way better and there is less text to replace.
    Opening the Feehand file in CS3 doesn't give me this method... I'd like to...

    Sorry but the text doesn't contain empty spaces, it's text missing.
    The problem to be solved is conversion from Freehand to illustrator text along path which is justified (moved the slider in freehand to adjust the text placed along a path) is after conversion misplaced along the path and text is missing. In some case the text isn't adjustable because I can't crab a handle etc. The only solution is to place the text again. Any solutions?

  • Text to paths loosing style information

    I've known this as a long standing issue and can't find any information if there's a fix or workaround. When converting text to paths - as some printers demand - I loose things like Rules assigned in the styles. Has this been addressed anywhere? Way I see it this is a huge bug that's just cost me a lot in terms of reprinting a clients material.

    If you have Acrobat, have you tried the flattener from the print production toolset? While in the comments to the linked article someone mentions it doesn't always work, it's always worked for me. I have some people I work with outside of the US where I have to send files like you are doing a few times a year.
    This is how the preset I saved for this is set up.
    The test file I just threw together has a mix of bullets, numbering, character style with a dashed underline, highlighted text that was underlined, etc.

  • Text on path: How can I calculate the text length?

    Hi
    I have a text on path (spline item). Now I need the length of this text and the length of the spline item.
    I try to calculate the text length using IWaxLine::GetWidth(), but this is always 0.
    - How can I calculate the length of this text?
    - How can I calculate the length of the spline item?
    Thanks
    Hans

    It would be interesting if you could describe the purpose of your "length", but I don't have an answer anyway. Would the bounding box be sufficient?
    Considering that TOP may be combined with arbitrary spline paths, this could become an exercise in higher math. I haven't yet encountered a function that returns the mathematical length of such a spline.
    Otherwise it could be solved if you iterate and sum up the relevant points of the bounding box (ascender, descender, baseline?) of individual glyphs.
    Be warned that the whole TOP looks alien, as if it were a transplant from a different program. Experience also shows that documented and actually used interfaces / commands are completely different animals ...

  • Convert Illustrator text to path and use in Motion - How?

    Can someone please list in steps exactly how I would type text in Adobe Illustrator and use that as a path in Motion to animate the writing of the font used. I am trying to understand how to have text written on like handwriting, but all the descriptions on the forums have fallen short of actually describing how this is done.

    That's not what you want to do. Illustrator paths are too complex and convoluted. For instance, a capital "L" is not two strokes that form a right angle, it's six separate paths that are filled. If you could use the path in Motion, you would be tracing the lines that make up the letterform, not the letter itself.
    I would do this with the write-on effect. It creates an animated brush stroke that is used as a mask.
    Hope you get better advice.

  • Live text to Paths Meta Data

    This request originated on another list.
    The attributes/notes can be used to add text meta-data to objects, which has been around for a long time and is very helpful.
    I would love Illus/InDesign to automatically write the font details (font family and or other formatting) to the outlined paths when text is converted from live editable text to outlined vector paths.
    There is nothing worse than being given an outlined file as the only data by a client and then asked to make text changes or to match the font for use in a new job.
    A very helpful person named Rick Gordon gave me some help in doing this via AppleScript (see below) - however it would be good if this was hard wired into Illus and InDesign so that file originators would tag the font data to the paths when they first outline the editiable text.
    SCRIPT:
    tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
    tell document 1
    set storyText to text of story of selection
    set fontName to name of text font of text of story of selection
    tell selection
    tell storyText
    set propList to {fontName, return, size, return, leading, return, tracking,
    return, rotation}
    end tell
    set convertedText to convert to paths
    set note of convertedText to propList as text
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell

  • Displaying Text inside Path

    Hi,
    I have drawn a path and i want a text to be added in the center of the path. Is there any way to add the text ? Kindly suggest me good soultion

  • Attach text UNDER path

    I know I've done this before but I can't figure it out or
    find it - how do I attach the TOP of my text to the BOTTOM of a
    path? I can attach the text to the path, but its default is the
    bottom of the text to the inside of the path. I want to attach it
    to the outside, so that that TOP of the text follows the curve.

    Correction!
    Use the Baseline Shift and give it a negative number.

  • Indesign CS4, text on path missing when printed.

    I have a very important book going to print, and some last minute changes were made directly after upgrading from CS3 to CS4, now that the file was converted to CS4, text on circular paths display in the program fine but do not print or appear in pdfs. There are 12 sections in the book and for some reason, the first section prints fine, even though the elements in the other sections are the same. Nothing is linked to a master page. Even when I copy the text that DOES print from the first section and paste it in place later in the book, it will not print.
    Is has anything like this been discussed? I've seen a lot of mention about master page items needing to be overridden in these cases, but they are not linked to a master page... I even overode all master page items just in case, but no luck.
    Thanks for any help!

    Obviously the first thing to check is that they aren't set to non-printing in the attributes panel, or that the layer isn't set to non-printing, but it seems unlikely that this is the case if you've copied and pasted in place from one that does print.
    Do they show on the screen in preview mode, or when overprint preview is active?

  • Poor quality text on path after updating to CS6

    I have an Illustrator document I created some time back, probably in CS4 (but could have been CS2). It shows a road map and has lots of road names that follow the path of the associated road. When I open this doc in Illustrator CS6 I am told that the legacy text must be updated before it can be edited.
    If I open the file without updating the text then everything looks fine but if I choose to accept the offer to update all the text then my road names appear with irregular character spacing that looks very ugly.
    Can anyone please explain how I can update the text to CS6 without messing up the appearance?
    David

    None of the paths in this case appear particularly challenging. The text is simply following relatively gentle curves in the road, so it is disappointing that CS6 does a poorer job than previous versions of Illustrator.
    The problem affects one particular road name on my map more than any other. My original document had a tracking value of zero for all characters in this name and looks perfect. I can only get close to this in the updated CS6 document by applying very high tracking values (well over 200) to selected characters.
    Thanks for taking the time to respond. If you as an MVP are struggling to find any relevant documentation then I don't feel so bad about failing to find it myself!

  • Text on Path in CS 3

    I upgraded from Illustrator 10 to CS3 (Windows XP). Upon opening every job from 10 it will move stuff in CS3 but the main problem is that if I have text on a path the text disappears and I have the little red cross in the box. No matter which way I move the lines on either side of the cross I cannot get my text to re-appear. Am I doing something wrong. I read the help and did what it said but the text will not come back. Thanks a lot to anyone who can help me out with this.
    JWallace

    Try making the text box taller and wider.

  • Deleting text on path problem

    I am trying to change a text path back to a regular path in ID, but the 'Delete Type from Path' option in the Tpye menu is greyed out.
    I have tried everything I can think of (i.e. removing stroke/fill/rounded corners, copying part or all of the path), but cannot get this menu to become active.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Select the path with the Black Arrow tool, not the text tool.
    It should be active now.
    If not, reset your preferences.
    if that doesn't work then export the file to .inx and reopen.
