Thanks Creative

Thank you for removing support for music files that use Rights Management (DRM). Translation: Music files bought from online stores such as iTunes and Zune Marketplace are no longer usable on Vista 64-bit editions.
FIX this, the 32-bit drivers work fine with these files. WHY did you do this to the 64-bit drivers??

Try rebuilding your DRM folder. (NOTE: System Restore IS your friend)??http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=89664?
RESOLUTION:To resolve this issue, restore your computer to the original hardware configuration or to the original BIOS settings. Restoring your computer will probably correct these issues. If you can resolve the DRM issue by restoring your hardware configuration or BIOS settings and if you plan to change hardware components in the future, follow steps through 5 later in this section. If you have not made hardware changes or if restoring the hardware configuration does not correct the issue, follow steps 3 through 5.
Caution If you go directly to step 3 and you do not have a recent backup of your licenses, you may not be able to play protected files that you previously downloaded. If you experience this issue, contact the content provider to determine how to download new licenses for these files. An example of a content provider is the store where you bought the protected files. .Back up your licenses. To do this, follow these steps: a. In Microsoft Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Manage Licenses in Windows Media Player 0, or click License Management in Windows Media Player 7.x through Windows Media Player 9.
To change the backup location, click Change, and then select a location where you want to store backup copies of your licenses.b.Click Back Up Now.Note The license issuer, such as the online store where you bought the protected file, determines whether you are permitted to back up a specific license. Therefore, you may not be able to back up all your licenses. If you cannot back up the license for a particular file, you cannot restore that license after you change your hardware component. If you cannot restore a license, you cannot play the protected file.
For more information, visit the Web site of the license issuer to determine whether they support the Backup and Restore feature of Windows Media DRM.
2.Make the changes that you want to make to your computer hardware.
3.Reset Windows Media DRM by deleting all the files in the Windows Media DRM folder. Note that the Windows Media DRM folder is a hidden system folder. To view hidden files and folders, follow these steps: a.Click Start, and then click My Computer.b.On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.c.Click Show hidden files and folders, and then click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box. The following are the typical locations of the Windows Media DRM folder, depending on your operating system version:?Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM?Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM?Windows 98: C:\Windows\All Users\DRM?Windows Millennium Edition: C:\Windows\DRM?If you cannot find the Windows Media DRM folder, the exact location of the folder on the computer is stored in the following registry key. Make sure that this key points to a valid path:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DRM\Dat aPathNote By default, the path is displayed in binary format. To see the path in plain-text format, double-click DataPath. In the Edit Binary Value dialog box, the path is displayed in the column on the right.
4. Individualize the Windows Media DRM system.
To install the latest Windows Media DRM components, see the instructions on the following Microsoft Web site:http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506<span class="pLink"> (http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506)<span class="pLink">?<span class="pLink">?5.Restore your licenses. To do this, follow these steps: a. In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Manage Licenses if you have Windows Media Player 0, or click License Management if you have Windows Media Player 7.x through Windows Media Player 9.b.Select the location of the backup copies of your licenses. If you need to, insert the floppy disk where your licenses are stored.c.Click Restore Now.Note This step requires a connection to the Internet. For questions about Windows Media Player and privacy, see the Windows Media Player privacy statement. To display the privacy statement in Windows Media Player, click View Privacy Statement on the Help menu.

  • Digital I/O Module... thanks Creative and Shannon in support for NOTHI

I love the way she brushes you off with a 'swap PCI cards and reload the drivers.' The thing that's so frustrating is that she knows **bleep* good and well that it's not going to fix the problem, yet she has the cold heart to send you off to perform an hour worth of work for no good reason. If creative cares this little about its users, then I'll be sure to never use them again. I've used Sound Blaster cards since the old ORIGINAL 8-bit sound card, a full length 8-bit ISA card in a 286. They've made a lot of money off of me, but their greed and lack of support has ensured I will never buy another product from them again. Note... my issue is the 'switching between Mic-In and Digial I/O every time the PC is rebooted' problem. They (CLabs) know about it, they know it's a problem, and it's probably a very simple one to fix. They just flat out don't care. A big **bleeeeeeeeeeeep** AdamFt. adam2hick: First off, please leave the foul language off the forums. The censor is there for a reason, work-around it again and you'll probably be banned.
Next, Our advisors don't just send customers off on random tasks. I was a phone advisor here once, and I can tell you that doesn't happen. If she sent you to do something like that, then likely someone has managed to fix the problem that way before. Just because a particular fix doesn't work for you, doesn't mean it doesn't work. Computers are like that sometimes.
And finally, generally when I have run into issues with settings reverting themselves after a reboot, I find it's the antivirus programs causing the issue. Windows (and the CL sound manager in this case too) stores it's settings in the registry. Certain antivirus programs (not all of them, just the pain-in-the-butt ones) often block that by changing the registry back when Windows boots up. So any settings stored there are lost, often wit h the effects you are having.
I can't promise this will fix it in your case, it has merely worked for me repeatedly in the past for other customers. Just check your antivirus software's settings for any kind of "registry protection" and turn it off. If you can't find any, try uninstalling your antivirus/spyware protection, reboot, change that setting, reboot again, and see if the problem went away. If it did, you can narrow down what program may be causing it.
    Good luck,
    Dale

  • Thank you Creative for returning FM recording to the Visio

I was moderately upset that I could no longer update my firmware because if I did, even if it would fix some issues, it would have removed my FM recording feature. I am glad that you all have re-introduced the feature back into the Zen Vision:M! I could not always listen in to my favorite radio shows and would set my Vision to record when necessary. Now I can again!?Plus?have all the fixes since last I updated my firmware. Thanks Creative!!

Yes, that was good news for V:M users but when are Creative going to release new firmware for the Zen Nano Plus and the Muvo players so that it contains FM Recording again?Could the Mods try and find out, please??PBMessage Edited by PeeBee on 2-09-20060:48 AM

  • Creative and compatibil

    Hellow,
I got vista 64 bit and an old 20g Zen Touch. As it turns out thats just another way of saying "fek i'm skrewd".
When I followed this neat guide [url="http://www.ehow.com/how_23074_zen-touch-work-windows-vista.html">here[/url] It appears Creative has been very smart at making Vista and Zen players work.
All you need to do is:
    1. Connect your zen to the pc
    2. Install CreativeMediaSource5
But to install CMS5 you need to have your zen connected and recognized.
And to sucessfully connect and regocnize your zen you need to have CMS5 installed.
    So what to do first?
Connect or install connect or install, hmmmm...
Ahrrrrrrg brain bubbles I get from this nonsense.
Thanks Creative for wasting my money and time with your crap products. It all started when the plug connector of my Zen touch turned mono. Then that reminds me of the pci soundcard I still got wich also does NOT work in vista. Oh and not to forget my Zen 4gb wich worked perfectly on xp but now I can't even configure Zencast to download or transfer anything CUZ THERE IS ZERO COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN VISTA AND CREATIVE PRODUCTS.

    Hi,
Did you upgrade to the Playsforsure firmware?

  • Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(Error code: 1)

Hello, I'm running a MacBook Pro Retina with Yosemite 10.10.2.  I tried to update Creative Cloud Desktop manager and then tried to cancel it (it was killing my bandwidth while I was trying to work).  It disappeared from the bar at the top of the OSx screen.
I couldn't get it back.  I restarted my machine.  When I clicked on Creative Cloud this time, I was prompted to update, but almost immediately got an error.  There are other mentions of Error Code 1 on the forum, but they appear to be first time installations, not updates.  Suggestions welcome!  Thanks
Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(Error code: 1)
    Update:
Still no success.  I tried the instructions here: Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application  which says to uninstall Creative Cloud.  I got an error: "Unable to uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop.  Quit Creative Cloud desktop and try again."  But CC desktop is not running.  I had a look in activity monitor and didn't see anything.

Okay - I think I resolved this by closing some stalled processes in Activity Monitor, then restarting Creative Cloud desktop, then updating in the normal way.

  • Creative takes a step in the right directi

I don't know how many users have noticed, but Creative has decided to make ALchemy free for Audigy users, and refund those that purchased it. This is a great first step towards responding to the community. I highly recommend you follow this up with regular, consistant, two-way communication to your user-base. A weekly or monthly 'Ask any question' (moderated) thread would be a good way to facilitate this. Thanks Creative!

Well, you can also see this as positi've and as negati've. As Daniel_K already has mentioned, the Alchemy software need a good working Vista driver for the Audigy series. But since the Audigy Vista drivers are "broken" the Alchemy software can't work properly (or the 3D sound in the games that need the Alchemy to get the EAX to function in Windows Vista can't work properly). If you make something, a software or hardware which you have to pay for, it have to work properly, otherwise some-one may sue the company for bringing a not properly working product on the market. To prevent that you have to make the product for free for the mass. You can not complain about something that's for free, right?
The other view is that Creative Labs has finally realised that you can't mess with the consumers, especially the loyal ones who have bought many Soundblasters of different generations. While this is a small step, it's a good start. Just hope I can see the newer Windows XP drivers for the XP users (hopefully with many fixes for games that are not working properly with the Audigy soundcards which are promoted as "gamer" soundcards) for the Audigy series soundcards in a month or 2? Should be possible since Windows XP is a more mature OS than the Vista, right?

  • Not Bad, Creative. Not B

I was just commenting on how great creative handled the RMA process, even though I had a ton of worries about it and all. They didn't give me a ton of problems and a new one is on its way in a pretty timely matter. Thanks Creative. I just thought I should at least say something good to tip the scale of all the bad comments.Message Edited by Majesa on 0-26-2005 05:58 AM

  • Thanks for the updated Audigy 2 driver

I don't know if anyone else has said this but I justed wanted to thank Creative for the updated Audigy 2 drivers. I believe you ultimately did a good thing. I also believe in the long run it'll pay off as you'll get bug reports (like I'm about to post) to help improve the product. If you'll come out with a PCI-Express version of the X-fi, I'll remember this...
    Again, thanks for the drivers!!

  • Creative do stand for the lacking support of their produc

I can't see anybody on this forum who hasn't got problem with cracking/noise sounds - it's a known problem. But the thing that do surprice me is the way Creative tackle the problem... by doing nothing, try to bring the motherboard manufactors to wear the blame for not making Nforce-4 motherboards and aged chipsets anymore to stay ali've with the ancient X-fi testing boards. Creative, how creative that now might be, just get a hang of it. We payed for a working product, not for a product potentially working on a fi've year old chipset and motherboard design. Manufactors like MSI, Asus, etc. does not stand for the problem with the X-fi support, it's up to you guys at creative to keep the things running by corporating with these companies and solve the problem if you cannot do that on your own - don't be so blind and hardass. If I got a cup and it just matched the volume my bottle of soda, I find that to be good. But if that bottle of soda volume is increased while my cup?remains in the same?volume then it will drip over the sides. It's not the cups fault things tip over. That's exactly what Creative has been doing, they found a good match between their new product and a old chipset, but once there's a new and better chipset, Creative just didn't catch up, the rest of the industries improvements dripped over the sides of their companys. That's exactly why Creative needs to solve this problem RIGHT NOW or you'll drown in your own unability to take actions. This thread is highly relevant as it gives a more realistic idea of what Creative is doing... Nothing. We got one or to admins on the forum and a few people on the Support, but their words are not actions are does not mean anything if they do not make things change, and they will not. Therefor this forum and their effort is not worth the time - the time should be spent by Creative fixing this problem, but they don't, becuase they don't want to spend money on us who foolishly bought their products in the hope they might actually work. Thanks Creative for ruining my gaming Experience. X-fi is a big Xtreme-FU.

Hard to disagree with the man. If these were budget cards it'd be one thing, but the fact so many of us are getting lumbered with such a horribly anti-atmospheric bug after paying a relati'vely premium price for a sound card is quite another.
It's not even just this forum. Look at product reviews for the cards on shopping sites and the buyer comments have plentiful complaints about the crackling. And if you do a Google search for words that contain 'X-Fi' and 'cracking'? A good 28,600 results. Change 'cracking' to 'crackling' and you get another 6,900. 'Popping' brings up 9,800. Some of those results may overlap, but whatever the case we're in the region of many thousands.
This is not an isolated problem. It may affect a minority, but a minority can by definition be anything up to and including 49%.
Of course, when you're the leader in a market with hardly any competition, why spend the resources, right? :/

  • Creative Zen Vision:M Anoun

    http://www.engadget.com/entry/2340005707380/
"Creative is introducing their new Zen Vision:M, an answer to Apple?s <FONT color=#337788>5G iPod, and what an answer it is. We know it gets old hearing every new player get compared to Apple?s flagship offering, but can you seriously blame us here? The specs are vaguely familiar, with a 2.5-inch screen at 320x240 resolution and a 30GB hard dri've, though thankfully Creative squeezed in 4 hours of video playback, doubling Apple?s endurance on at least video. (The audio playback conks out at hours.) The size of the two players is virtually identical, with the Zen Vision:M only changing it up on thickness ? at about twice the iPod?s 0.43-inches.
They?re also forging their own path on button placement, sporting a layout similar to that of their <FONT color=#337788>Zen Micro Photo, and including a vertical scroll pad. Creative did add their usual FM tuner and voice recording niceties, and they have a decent list of video format support, including MPEG-4, WMV, Motion JPEG, DivX, and XviD, so this $330 player could turn out to be a worthy candidate for video capable commuting buddy ? if Apple?s lawyers don?t have something to say about it first. "
    What do you think?

Covered in 3 or 4 other threads I think. These boards do get confusing though. Too... many... posts!

  • Disgusted @ Creative! Join Me In Prot

Notice Creative have 'support' on their website? What a joke.
It's the usual story.... moved house-lost driver CD!
All I want is the Creative Audigy drivers but do they provide them? You know the answer. I want to use the card and speakers I paid good money for but for some unknown reason Creative won't let me download an install CD. There are ways to make it work of course but why should I have to I just want the support for a product i expect! Is that too much to ask for?
Make a torrent or image so more experienced users don't have to mess around like this. Creative: you are trying my patience and a quick scan around shows other SC makers offering a far better support service. Is my money going to them next time? You're **bleep** right.
I'm now donwloading the image of the cd that a kind forum member upped but due to the commercial server it will take me all night on 2MB BB.
Thanks Creative. Next time the card is going in the bin and my money elsewhere.

Perhaps moron wasnt the best. But if you want a clean dri've then just download the drivers and the audio console? Cleanest way possible surely. Sounds as though you clutchin at straws now, ur argument that creative doesnt offer the support you need is not very good.
I am a games developer and as such i wanted the least RAM overhead possible...... finding that alot of the creatixe "extars" dont particulary cater for people who dont want a load of extras i simply downloaded the drivers and the console and had all functionality with no overhead.
What facts is it i have to check? The fact they do in fact offer everything and cater to all needs on the downloads section?

  • How do i realise the most basic functionality with my zen tou

I've been playing around with my zen touch for a couple of hours now and I have to admit I'm impressed. The zen has certainly opened my eyes and challenged my previous foolish preconceptions about portable mp3 players which should be open platform, plug-and-play, straightforward and easy to use, because my experience thus far has not been any of these.
In an attempt to stop wasting any more my time I was just wondering if someone could quickly tell me how exactly do I manage the files which are already on my touch? A couple of things I would like to do:
. view and music files on my zen touch from some interface on my computer
    2. copy music files from my zen touch back on to my computer
    3. delete all music files without manually having to go through each and every album
Now I've probably made another crass assumption that it is infact possible to actually do this, but here's to hoping.
Now, the manual says I can use the creative mediasource organizer to transfer music to my touch. And indeed, Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 claims to be able to do just this (transfer music tracks to and from your Creative portable music player using Sync Manager and SmartFit*). My question is... how? I've run the organizer, it looks like yet another music library management tool, great except for the whole part about that mp3 player stuff. Is there a hidden setting somewhere only available to stonemasons that will let me access my mp3 player?
I've also installed the Creative NOMAD Explorer (Version 3.0.0). Now, at least this works - in the same way a person in a coma can be said to li've. When I open the 'music library' I get an empty explorer window to I can click and drag mp3 files into it and it copies them over. So, I guess I have some functionality, although it would be kind of nice to have some feedback about what files I have on there.
Now as it's not april fools I'm not quite ready to accept that zen touch as the great big joke it appears to be, so if somebody could provide some insight I would really be grateful.
edit: forgot to mention, running .0.03 firmware, and the model number on the back is DAP-HD004. Upgrading to the 2. firmware is unfortunatley not an option at the moment.Message Edited by adante on 02-24-20060:7 PM

Mosey: thank you for the information. Just out of curiousity, was I just not paying attention and was this made known somewhere? Or do creative just expect you to potter around endlessly installing software in the hopes that you might randomly stumble across the right configuration?
Perhaps I am just crazy for assuming that if the latest firmware does not have a superseded message, it is still acti've and valid.
Anyway, I'm happy to report that the situation has been resolved mostly to my satisfaction. I was able to fob off my zen touch to some other sod, and actually make a profit from it, no less! This was quite a pleasant surprise because I usually dispose of fecal matter by flushing it down the toilet (but then, I don't have to pay for it either).
I have since purchased a noname mp3 player which, while having some pretty severe firmware, provides some great additional functionality which I have to admit I really like over the touch. Primarily, this was being able to copy mp3s to and from it* and hence use it as an mp3 player! I know this concept is a little radical, but I really think creative should look into it because it would really add some value to their current line of paperweights and doorsto
    ps.
So thanks creative for that hilarious little experience. I have to admit, you guys certainly do manage to distinguish yourself from the field and push the limits of mp3 player technology. Where I used to think of a nai'vely spectrum of good to bad, I have since extended this from the good, to the bad, to the creative.
    * This alone is a great feature I was never able to realise with my touch, and made even better by the fact I didn't have to install all sorts of half-baked software to achieve it!
