The bookmarks listing on my laptop is so narrow I can't distinguish among several bookmarks that have similar names. How do I make the bookmarks large enough to read details on, either on the sidebar or the drop down menu?

What kind of details do you need? I have a bunch of bookmarks imported from Safari (yes, it's a Mac iBook). In Safari I get a whole page for bookmarks and can see easily which one is which. In Firefox they are stuffed into a narrow space I can't seem to widen and I can't tell a bunch of them apart. The categories are fine because they are one word or two, the specific listings however, are not fine. In one particular category they start the same way, so I have a whole bunch of nearly identical bookmarks and the "abbreviated" listing is not sufficient since it doesn't seem to include the distinguishing features. That's pretty much it. This isn't a problem for all bookmarks, just some. I need to make the window wider so I can see more detail and can't figure out how to do it.
Thanks, Carol.

try 250px instead of 36em and up or down from there.

  • How do I set Firefox 29 to always show the bookmarks sidebar with one click instead of a drop down menu?

    I've decided to just get used to Firefox 29 instead of messing with add-ons and what not to make it look like it used to but one thing that is too ingrained is a favorites/bookmarks sidebar with one click. I just don't like the drop down menu. Is there a way to set the "Bookmarks" button to show the sidebar in one click?

    I want the bookmarks sidebar button. This should be a BASIC feature available, not something I need to install an add-on for to revert to some "classic restore". Why is something so straightforward and easy to use considered "classic", and everything has to be hidden and hard to see in this new version? All the colours in the new tabs BTW are are BLUE, and they blend in with the background at the top, you can't see the tab edges - whose bright idea is this?

  • How do I alphabatize all my bookmarks from the drop down menu with the star on the Right side of screen?

    I want to alphabatize all my bookmarks that are in the drop down menu, the menu with the star icon, on the right side of the screen. I do not want to put them in folders or view them in the box from the menu bar and all the answers pertain to that box, and not to the one with the star. Thank you

    I don't think it's possible from the toolbar button.
    However, the action you take in the Bookmarks Sidebar or in the Library dialog will affect the Bookmarks Menu everywhere it is displayed, including the toolbar button, so you only need to use it for the few moments needed to use Sort By Name and then close it.
    Bookmarks Sidebar (either):
    * View menu > Sidebar > Bookmarks
    * Command+b
    Library dialog (either):
    * Bookmarks menu > Show All Bookmarks
    * Command+Shift+b
    right-click "Bookmarks Menu" > Sort By Name

  • Bookmarks toolbar changed from the right side of the drop-down menu to the left. How can I change it back on Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac?

    I just updated to Firefox 4.0.1. Some changes I don't like, especially that the Bookmarks toolbar opens to the left of the drop-down menu instead of the right. How can I change it?

    You may have bookmarks that have long title. Firefox 4 shows the full text of the bookmark name, so if it doesn't fit with opening to the right side the Firefox will open to the left side. You can scroll through the list and make the bookmarks with a long name shorter.

  • A box with a blue outline appeared in my bookmark drop-down menu. I can't get rid of it, and it obstructs the view of the bookmarks as I scroll up or down. Help!

    I was trying to bookmark a page, using the "Choose" menu in the bookmarks. I must have touched a key by accident, and a box with a blue outline & the name of one of my folders appeared in my bookmark drop-down menu. At first the box contained the folder name, then I was trying to delete the box, and erase the name, thinking it might get rid of the box, but it didn't. I can't get rid of this box! It obstructs the view of what is underneath. It stays in the same position as I scroll up & down in the drop-down menu, and it hides what is underneath. Please help me get rid of this box. It is driving me crazy! Thanks!

  • How can I get rid of "History and Bookmarks" section from the search history drop down menu in safari 6.0.2?

    Let's just say I have saved bookmarks of things that i do NOT want my friends to see when they use my computer occasionally. I know they could go and find these bookmarks anyway in the bookmarks menu but they dont snoop around my computer. i would rather it not just pop up when they go to search for something or type in a webpage. If there is no way to customize what shows up in the drop down menu for search results then that is something apple overlooked. Not everybody wants things all in one place. Whats the point of deleting search history and website history if its just going to show the certain things you have bookmarked? Any solution to this would be appreciated. One solution i thought would work was disabling search from suggesting, but i guess that only supresses the webpages not the url/search bar. Oh and this is for safari 6.0.2 please dont give me outdated advice.
    Thanks

  • The bookmarks themselves exist. How can I put them back in the drop-down menu I have from Vista-Aero theme ?

    This happens when I start Firefox (v. 3.6.28) from desktop. I ussually start it from quick launch. I have a star shaped button, top left, that works like a drop-down menu for my bookmarks. But now there's only a small window there, and the bookmarks do not appear anymore. They are stored in the Bookmarks>>Unsorted bookmarks tab. But how the hell do I get them to the drop menu ?
    Did I mention that Restore doesn't ....... do anything ?
    Also I haven't changed any settings in the last 2 weeks.

    Staying with Firefox 3.6 is both EXTREMELY Insecure (you are vulnerable to almost every hole on [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html] since Firefox 12), and you are using a version that is significantly slower, doesn't support modern web technology, and has known bugs (crashes, freezes, etc.). If it's just the UI you don't like, you can quickly and easily change the UI to look exactly like 3.6.
    So, until you update you are knowingly using an old version of software with dozens of known bugs.

  • The bookmarks in my drop-down menu do not appear when I try to "organize bookmarks". When I try to bookmark a page, the folders in the drop-down menu do not appear as choices.

    The trouble started when I transferred applications from my old computer. When I click "bookmarks", all my bookmarks are there. When I try to "Organize Bookmarks", it acts like I have no bookmarks. When I try to "Bookmark this page", it does not show all the folders that are in the drop-down menu. There are a number of bookmark files in the appdata\mozilla\firefox\profiles area, none of which are complete. I tried a backup and restore in the organize menu and a backup was created, but I don't know what was backed up. I suspect nothing was backed up. When I clicked a restore, nothing happened.

    I'm not familiar with Windows 7, but... is it possible there is a permissions problem with your profile folder, or read-only set on any database files?

  • I cannot import bookmarks because I don't have the "File Import" command in my drop down menu.

    To import bookmarks from another application, you must use the drop down menu command "File>Import". I don't have that command in my menu in Firefox.

    The Import function has been moved to ''Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks'' (opens the Library window), then in the Library window ''Import and Backup > Import Data from Another Browser''

  • In firefox 4, bookmarks drop down menu dissapeared next to the home buttom, but appears to be there when customizing, when clicking done, is dissapears

    My bookmark drop down menu disappeared next to the home button on firefox 4. When I right click customize, the bookmark drop down appears on menu bar, but when clicking done, it's gone again. I went into customize and removed it then put it back. When clicking done, it is gone again and will not appear. It happened when I click tools, options, tabs, and uncheck open new windows in a new tab, then clicked ok

    I had this same problem, using Ubuntu 11.04, here is the solution, pretty simple after trying 800 things to find the solution. Go to your addons, disable the addon called "global menu bar integration", then if your menubar is still viewable, disable it, and then you can see the drop down menu for your bookmarks. If you don't have Ubuntu then you just need to disable your menubar directly (the one with File, Edit, View, etc).

  • My folders aren't showing up in my bookmark list or the drop down menu when I bookmark a site. Please advise!

    I just created a bunch of folders to organize my bookmarks. When I try to bookmark a page and put it in the appropriate folder, none of my folders appear in the drop-down menu. Thanks for any advice you can provide. ~cayugakate

    Turns out they were showing up, just all the way at the bottom of my list of bookmarks. I just couldn't see them. If you go to "Bookmarks"->"Organize Bookmarks" and then play around in there with highlighting on "Bookmarks Menu" you should be able to figure it out. Otherwise you just have to move them up to the top individually. Hope that helps! ~Kate

  • I am trying to import bookmarks from google account. Your drop down menu does not have the "import" option. How can I do this?

    Your instructions for importing bookmarks/favorites are to click the top left Firefox button and select "import" to start the process. I don't have that option, there is not "import" in the drop down menu. How can I import bookmarks into Firefox?

    You will still find it in the File menu in the Firefox 5 version that you are using.<br />
    If Firefox 7 is has been moved to the Bookmarks Manager.
    Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
    If you managed the bookmarks via the Google toolbar on the Google server then see:

  • Can I click on "bookmarks" and have the drop down menu display ONLY the file imported from Safari?

    I am trying to achieve a one click drop down menu without side selection for "Safari". Possibly I need to drag bookmarks and folders from the "Safari" folder into the "unsupported " folder, but when I tried this it doubled everything I drug in.

    I did find that I could move bookmarks and folders out of the "imported from Safari" folder onto the "unsorted bookmarks" folder. Removed the Safari folder and made sure the "bookmarks menu" was empty, and then closed show all bookmarks. Hoping that when I opened Bookmarks from the very top line of Apple menu items, the only list that would pop down would be the one that I just constructed in "unsorted bookmarks". But alas, what pops down is no visible bookmarks. You have to slide down to "unsorted" which pops open a window offset to the right with what I really want to see, the list of bookmarks that I assembled in Unsorted.

  • My new bookmarks now appear at the top of the drop-down menu, not at the bottom like before. Why?

    It used to be that when I created a new bookmark and saved in the Bookmarks Menu it would go to the bottom of the list on the Bookmarks drop-down menu. Now, new bookmarks go to the top of the drop-down menu and appear ABOVE the "Recent Tags" and "Recently Bookmarks" folder. How can I fix this?

    This behavior may have been changed by an extension.
