The horror...

for anyone whose tried to manage data files on an external hard drive using both a mac and pc they know the dismal truth. it can not be done easily... even with third party software the process *****...
i eventually decided to format my 500 gig HD using fat 32. this was based mostly on the horror stories i've read here and advice i was given by reputable geeks elsewhere about the glitchyness of nfts, hfs and attendant software needed to make this crap work together on cross platforms.
most people suggested using fat 32 with the clear caveat being - fat 32 is unstable
BOY HOWDY!
yesterday i mounted my external HD and proceeded to bootup and logon to the net (exactly as i've done for the 3 months i've owned my macbook pro) i clicked on safari and was confronted yet again with a popup update window. i clicked to download the security update (intel) which i recall being approx 26 megabytes.
short story the mongrel update locked up my laptop... i waited a half hour and finally decided to hold down the startup button until the **** thing shut down, then promptly rebooted... fine no problem, however, the exernal drive (still plugged into the firewire 800 port) did not mount.
i restarted the laptop 3 or 4 times until FINALLY the external drive mounted. i loaded my CS2 and bridge and went to do my graphic work... oooopsie... no folders where once there were several dozen?#$@#@$
had a look at the directories only to discover that approx 100gigs of folders were missing...
not good.
i dismounted the drive from the laptop and plugged it into the pc... same story... a couple of dozen folders just GONE!
JUST VANISHED IN AN INSTANT!
had a look at the drive under 'my computer' and where once it reported 465 gigs 260 gigs free it now reported 465 gigs 368 gigs free!@#%^#$%
at present i'm waiting on word from a local computer tech and the possibility of recovering the missing data - three months of graphic work ****** into hardware ****...
oh yeah... i called the apple techs (i have apple care and haven't used it until now) and was told essencially TO BAD. it's not there responsibility... yada yada yada...
beware

oydesseus,
If I am not mistaken, you are a relatively recent "convert."
I have read your post carefully, I have made a couple observations, and I have some feedback for you. First, let me state that I don't intend to water down the seriousness of your data loss. That said...
It seems to me that you are still stuck in "PC thinking." One should never encounter situations where a Mac simply "locks up." That just doesn't happen to any Macs I own, now or in the past. The fact that you encounter things like this indicates that something is wrong with either your Mac, or its installation of OS X. Certainly, the simple act of initiating a download or update should never, ever cause problems.
When I say "PC thinking," I mean the idea that anything other than flawless performance is normal or acceptable. Also inherent in this thinking is the concept of a "mongrel update," or the idea that any file system (NTFS, HFS+, etc.) is "unstable." While it is true that there can sometimes be problems with third-party (mind you) software such as MacDrive, the file systems themselves are quite mature, and usually very robust.
However, all file systems are subject to disk errors, especially when they are improperly unmounted (which has definitely occurred in your case). For this reason, one should never connect external volumes to a machine that is experiencing problems. Further, it is common knowledge, and clearly state all over the place, that updates, etc. should never be run with external devices connected, or with running applications. This is "Mac thinking."
I can't do anything to help you with your current data loss, but perhaps my feedback will help you to avoid similar circumstances in the future. Really, I'm trying to help.
To that end, I suggest that you carefully consider your current habits, and your current ways of thinking. Why and when do you feel it necessary to cross platforms? What could you do to minimize this? Why do you have and use a Mac? Why do you have and use a PC?
I ask these questions because one of the basic tenets held by OS X, and users of OS X, is simplicity (even though the OS, itself, is not simple. It is complex in an effort to create simplicity of use). So, beginning with the fact that you have a Mac:
* Identify those things that you are currently doing on the PC, that could be performed on the Mac. Migrate this work to the Mac.
* Having done the above, you will now be doing on the PC only what is absolutely necessary. Since Macs and PCs both have similar (if not identical) capabilities, this amounts to things that can be done only using Windows-only software. That's not much.
* Format any external drive using some partition scheme. Leave the majority as either HFS+ or NTFS, with a smaller partition formatted as FAT-32. Your Mac can read NTFS, so any files generated by the PC that must be transferred to the Mac can go that route. FAT-32 would only be used to transport files from the Mac to the PC.
* FIX. YOUR. MACHINES. What's wrong with your Mac? Why does it "lock up?" If you need help in making a determination about this, we're here. Do not accept as fact the idea that even occasional problems are normal; fix it, or get it fixed.
Ideally, you should migrate completely to your Mac. I do not claim that Macs or OS X is absolutely perfect (nothing is), but I do claim that those who have migrated completely experience fewer headaches.

My IPad 6.1.3 is not allowing me to upgrade to 7.0.2 (not that I want to after the horror stories) but I would like your advice on what to do. It's not memory because I have 23.3gb available. Also, my delete button in photos does not appear to be working.  I've deleted several pics twice and lo and behold, still there. My question is should I even upgrade to 7.0.2, what happens if I do not ?  And how do I get that delete button to delete ?  When first purchased, worked fine. Now....problems. Also, don't like the idea of having to pay for their support such as one time support question for $19.99 ?  Really ? Don't they all make enough $$ off the users of their products ? • The HORROR you CAN endure if you RMA your soundcard to Creative Europe

    Hello from Austria,
i hope to get SOME response or even help from an Creative Labs official person via this forum since any mails to [email protected] are ignored even if i complete the support form and as a customer i cant contact Creative Europe via phone because there is no acti've phonennumber that i am aware of, great no phone support.
Also i did not find any european forum and certainly none that is in my mother language german so please excuse my english.
My horror began late june this year so i am having these troubles for more than 3 months.
I requested an RMA-Number 990600660 for my X-FI Xtreme Audio Notebook Modell Nr. SB070 which i received very fast on 26.06.2009.
03.07.2009 I sent the card with a copy of my bill to:
    Creative Labs
    Fichtestrasse A
    02625 Bautzen - Germany
    3.07.2009 I received a mail that i can expect my new soundcard in 0 - 5 days.
22.07.2009 A package stood at my doorstep, no reference to who was the deli'very service but it had an paper on it identifying it as a package from creative and there should be an (exact copy what is writen there) "34SB070AA002 SB070 SB X-FI Xtreme Audio Notebook Assy" inside.
There was no SB070 but an originaly packed X-FI Notebook with Wireless Audio Modell Nr. SB0950.
I would have had no problem if it was a new model of the card with the same or more features, but this soundcard has no optical out which i need !
22.07.2009 I contacted Creative via mail to [email protected] but i did not receive an answer.
24.07.2009 Again i filled out the complete webform stating the problem of the wrong model being sent to me.
28.07.2009 I received an answer from Mr. Rui Yun that the problem will be dealt with.
    3.07.2009 I received a mail with a new RMA number CL90709295302 telling me i can expect deli'very in 0 - 5 days.
07.08.2009 I received a air cushion cover with a paper on it again telling me there would be an SB070 (same text as before) inside.
Instead there was a "naked" SB0950 inside - again - the wrong product.
07.08.2009 Again, and now a little angry, which i hope everyone can understand i contacted Creative via webform even though Creative tells you with every mail i received that you should put all the commuication in a mail if you answer directly to [email protected] but i NEVER got an response that way !!!!
4.08.2009 I received two mails from creatives Mr. Rui Yun and Mr. Wei Wei (same time same text) apologising for the late answer and they will check the problem.
I then tried two more times (dont remember exact date) to contact creative via the webform but at that time i never even received the confirmation that my message was received, if that was because of a technical problems or on purpose i dont know !
30.08.2009 I received my last answer from creatives Mr. Wei Wei which drove me mad !
He asked me (in very bad German) if i sent the wrong product !!!!
How would that be possible, i sent the bill with the card clearly stating it to be an SB070 not an SB0950 !!!!
And then he is telling me that the product was sent to me on 3.07.2009 and stating which adress it was sent to
and to please confirm if it was correct.
Of course it was correct otherwise i would never have received anything.
How idiotic and absurd can it get ?
3.08.2009 My last message to Creative via mail and webform stating the problem AGAIN not only in german but in english too, to make sure they understand me this time, but i never received an answer !
Now totally frustrated with the way customers are treated by Creative Labs Europe "Support" i will continue not only in this forum (so dear Creative you may of course just delete this messsage and cancel my account) to tell my story in english and german until i receive an offical apology for this mess and of course my CORRECT soundcard !!
Of course you can sue me for hurting your reputation (please do), but you will lose because i can prove everything, i have the two wrongly deli'vered soundcards and all the communcation with your company !!!
I learned that i will never again RMA a product which is (now was) in warranty directly with the manufacturer instead let the shop i bought it in handle these things, then they have the troubles if somethings wrong.
The only reason that i didnt do that is that i dont li've in the same part of Austria any more and so i thought this would be cheaper than driving 300km (there and back) to that shop and faster, if i just had known that this could happen.
    Regards

  • Error Code 720; USB ports failing; the horror.... the horror

Ok, so I have been banging my head against the wall and seconds away from using my T60 as a boat anchor. I'll give the particulars and then we can grow from there. XP; sp3; 2g ram... what else do we need?
Dec. 6th - everything worked fine ( ahem, restore won't work, nice) What worked? Me being able to connect to the internet using Verizon software and phone with a usb cable at work.
Dec. 7th - phone was unable to connect to the computer via usb cable; installed all associated software and drivers with the usb cable and phone. Intermittent problems with the wifi, but still able to connect via wifi. downloaded and reinstalled drivers for usb and phone. ran PC doc to check USBs... both in and out of Winglows, all checks balance.
Dec. 8th - Same issues, was able to get usb to work, but then the magic error code 720, pops up. Called Verizon. They wanted me to do a firmware update on the phone. Sure, fine....
Dec. 9th - Take the phone in the shop; it's all firm. Oh, guess what? error code 720. So, I call Verizon and get on the 2-3 day wait list. Search the web. high and low I searched. I found people who have had the same problems. (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Windows&thread.id=398&view=by_d...) yeah. So, a side problem here. I tried these steps, which seemed to make sense. Basically, they state that there is a conflict with the WAN (ip) & (pptp). It suggest to delete from registry and delete from Device Manager and reinstall. SUPER. Well, it kinda worked, but then it didn't really at all. Windohs would not allow me to delete the WAN (ip) because it wanted it to boot something - what that is I still don't know. I could not delete. So, if that is a solution it is mingled with errors on my side. Which could possibly be the solution to all of this, but if that were all....
The Next Day - regardless what day this was going on I cannot seem to (a) diagnose any of the conflicts - see (c) because that basically ruins msconfig, and the effing security chip makes it hang on the startup even though it is disabled in bios (I think this angered the computer greatly), (b) get device manager to play nice meaning that it locks up either by searching for devices or deleting the above mentioned drivers, (c) successfully restart the machine as it hangs on what appears to be the BSODs distant cousin that won't let Winblows completely shutdown, (d) if the phone was able to connect to the computer code 720 again, (e) USBs were fluctuating some boots would have USBs some would not - note: I did disable windows ability to manage power, as it has been suggested.
Today - Verizon called, "something is wrong with your computer not your phone." Thanks. Confirmed that by using my fiancée's Dell...
So, I ask the great minds of the INTERWEB, is there anything I can do besides format c:? Is there a solution to my problem?
I thank you in advance for your time and consideration...

    Hi,
If you made any changes prior to this issue, then undo the changes, such as a system restore (if you have).
Try boot your PC into safe mode to test this issue.
And one common cause of Code 39 errors is the corruption of two specific registry values, locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\08002BE10318}. you need to delete the upperfilter and lowerfilter registry values, detailed
steps, please refer to this link (make sure to backup your registry before aking any registry changes for incorrect changes might cause serious issue)
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/upperfilters-lowerfilters.htm
And as Rick said, it is also necessary to contact the manufacture support.

  • At the mercy of iTunes - the horror of random annihilation.

I'm furious. Has anyone else found that iTunes periodically 'forgets' your entire library?
"What? Music? No, no, I'm empty", iTunes insists.
"What!? What about that 13gb that I've spend years compiling!?", I stammer.
    "H-have we met...?"
It seems that I am under constant threat of total wipe out. This is his third strike and I'm simply not taking any more. Previously I just begrudgingly re-ripped my entire library and let my beautiful play counts die. But not this time.
Three completely random, seemingly unprovoked, wipes are three too many.
The most annoying thing is that each time is exactly the same. I just open up iTunes as normal and there's nothing there, no music, no playlists, no play counts - it's totally blank.
iTunes has bullied me long enough. Please, I am on my hands and knees, somebody help me! I've read about library files but I need clarity. How can I resurrect my old library, play counts and all?

*How can I resurrect my old library, play counts and all?*
Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • JTabbedPane removeTabAt - the horror

aargh, just found a bug that had been bugging me for about 2 weeks by reading the javadoc :-)
the removeTabAt method of JTabbedPane states that if will set a component's visibility to true when it's removed so it can then be added to another container in a visible state. Unfortunately for me this fires off a componentShown method in a componentListener in my component that tries to re-setup and re-draw a host of things using a model object that I've also just nulled from the component. Result is explosion and considerable blast damage.
Insidious thing is of course that when I remove the current tab component, which is already visible, the setting visiblity to true doesn't have an effect, doesn't call componentShown in my component, and doesn't crash my program, only the currently 'hidden' tabbed components do this.
Anyways, posted for future ref for anyone getting the same problem

  • 5.x to 4.5 xml horror...oh the horror

    OK guys,
I've followed the LAFCUPG on using xml to go from 5.x to 4.5 with projects.
It works....if the capture settings were set to 2 audio tracks in fcp5.
Otherwise, for example, if the clips were digitized, with let's say 8 audio tracks of empty information(basic AJA and KONA Firewire settings), they will not reconnect.
So, I used QTpro to delete the 6 audio tracks that contain nothing on the batch clips and try opening the xml in 4.5 again. In fcp5 it recconected the modified(less 6 audio channels of nothing) files no problem.
But, going back to 4.5 did not go well. Well, some strange bugaroos on this one. If the clip was in a sequence it would reconnect, but show up in the bin as unconnected, even tho I could see it in the timeline. In the bin, it would show up as offline, even tho it was "online" in the sequence.
If the clip was not in the sequence it would not reconnect at all.
So..after wasting my time for 3 hours and not willing to fork over another 3 grand to upgrade my home suite to my work suite.....
I'll give my editing suite away to the first person who can show me a camera that records 8 frickin channels of audio. This is a total waste of code.
    AVID RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can take a brand new project file from the newest AVID AND yes I said AND open it up in a 10 year old Media Composer Project without going to arcane xml.
Who makes software that is not backward compatable for less then 6 months....APPLE.

well the Sony XDCAM HD records 4 channels
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=4 29066&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
and this Sony HD deck does 12 i/o
    http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusiness/minisites/cinealta/post/srw5000.sh tml
    This Panasonic deck does 8 i/o http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=1120 1&catalogId=13051&itemId=68620&catGroupId=14594&surfModel=AJ-HD3700B&displayTab= F
OH ya pretty much any deck that supports HD-SDI has 8Channels
and if you need to get some audio off a DA 88 you would need 8 channels record ablity

  • Decimation - aaaarrrggghhhh, the horror, the horror!!!

Decimation. It's all supposed to make sense; easy: you input a number of samples, then you decimate, that is you cut down the number of samples by the decimation factor. A good explanation is given at http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5776744A9946416986256D170079700D. Yes, I am using the express vi, and this after unsuccessfully using the Decimate(continuous).vi
    Here is my story:
I am gathering data from multiple sensors. If I may, it is the classic scenario when using daqmx you get waveforms from various sensors. Problem is I have quite a few channels and I can only use one sampling rate. So I have to use the sampling rate for accelerometers for thermocouples too. However, the data file becomes too big and I have no need to sample the temperature at 5kHz for example. Therefore I decided to decimate the temperature waveform. First I tried using Decimate(continuous).vi but I started to see mismatches in time such as: if I was using 'averaging' the waveforms would be nicely alligned time wise; if I was not using 'averaging' then the time I was getting for the temperature was longer. Long story short, I tried using the express vi "sample compression". This one seemed to work fine until I noticed spikes at the end of recordings. They go either up or down with few orders of magnitude when I stop the daq using the reference trigger. It does not happen all the time; it is rather random and does not seem to be influenced by the sampling rate. This did not happen until I started using the sample compression express vi.
I attached some snapshots of the diagram in an effort to shed some light on my case. Did any of you had this happen? Do you have any suggestions as to why this my happen and how to get rid of this?
    Thank you.

OK. I am attaching the first three versions. I am currently using version 3 (my design which does not make use of Decimate(continuous) or Sample compression).
My version would allow me to use a decimating factor that is not an exact sub-multiple of the samples per channel without affecting the time for the output waveform(s); the decimating factor can actually be bigger than the samples per channel that are read in one "rotation" or the while loop. The sub vi I created is also intended to be able read the very last samples in case my decimating factor is not a sub-multiple of the samples per channel; it takes thos samples and processes them then puts the last result at a dt 'distance' from the last sample.
    Questions:
    Is my version 3 OK?
Can the sample compression do the same thing as what my version 3 does? If yes, how should it be configured?
    Thank you.

  • Given all the horror stories (my own posts include...

Got home tonight and my Infinity is back up to what it was when I got it, with literally 20 times faster pings and faster upload and download.
    Earlier this month:
    Now:
    It was a nice suprise!

Of the millions that have updated their iPhones and iPads to iOS 7.x, only a few have had problems. I have none on my iPad 2 or two iPhone 5c.
You can stay at iOS 6.x for a while, but many new apps or app updates will require a higher iOS. Generally, I don't update when a new version, like iOS 7.0 is released, because it will probably contain a few "bugs". I wait until an update is released with bug fixes.

  • I deleted the "desktop" in tiger, can't "alias", "copy" or "drag & drop" anything to it now, I get a message that "desktop can not be changed"

I was trying to make an alias of "SAFARI" icon to have on the desktop & in the dock as well, I managed to make the safari icon appear on the desktop, but when I wanted to switch from firefox to safari it wouldn't open / start safari, so OK, no big deal, I moved it the trash, ( by rt. click,>move to trash>click ) the horror starts here, everything on the desktop disappeared into the trash !!!!! ......
So I have tried to "drag & drop", "alias", "copy", "duplicate" to get things back out of the trash, but every attempt is met with a message "the desktop con not be changed",   and whatever I try to bring anything out of the trash window, it gets a "minus - sign" added to it when it crosses over the edge of the trash window, and of course it jumps right back into the trash when the mouse button is released.
I think (barely) I will need the do a "clean install", or a "restore" from the install DVD to restore / get the desktop back.
And while the only thing on the desktop now is the HDD icon, clicking it open does not show the desktop in the Lf. column of the window where it should be, or any OS X folders when clicking on anything, but the OS is is running for this post and yahoo, etc., and there is a upward facing arrow next to the "network" name in the left column, that doesn't go away, like after installing some software, this is weird !!
Any solid ideas welcomed, and Thanks for reading my driveling post,  .....  wayne146  .........
this is happening on my back-up machine, a G4 400mhz PCI, OS X TIGER 10.4.11 & 9.2.2 in classic ( all the 9.2.2 stuff does still show in the hdd when clicked )
I am having bigger troubles with my QS 800 dp, so I need this one to stay online, Please help !!!

to safari it wouldn't open / start safari, so OK, no big deal, I moved it the trash, ( by rt. click,>move to trash>click ) the horror starts here, everything on the desktop disappeared into the trash !!!!!
I am confused by what you did.
    open / start safari
What did you do?  This looks like a terminal command.
Or, did you click on the safari icon then right click on the safari icon then click on open?
I do not understand how you that moving to the trash would be helpful.

This will bring you to a panel asking you for your language.  Pick your language.
You you come to the Install Mac OS panel.  Do not install.
Click on Utilities menu item.  This will give you a pulldown list of utilities.
    Click on the disk utility.
You are now in disk utility.  Pick your disk.  Click on repair it should be on the lower right of the panel.
Once the repair completes successfully, you should update your permissions.
    Verify a disk
As an alternative, you can verify that the filesystem on the disk is correct. You will not be able to repair the file system.
I suggest that you use disk utility to verify that your startup disk is OK.  Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility  Start up disk utility.  On the left pane view, you will see a list of all your disks.   click on your startup disk.  Click on the First Aid  Tab.  Click on verify.   Hopefully your disk will verify.  If not, you have to boot from your installation DVD and run Disk First Aid from there to attempt to repair your file-system.

  • If I install Yosemite and find that the wifi problems are too bad, can I go back to Mountain Lion?

Almost everything I do on my MacBookPro requires a steady wifi connection. I have been reading all the horror stories about the wifi problems with Yosemite. I would like to install Yosemite, but would like to be able to go back to Mountain Lion if the problems are as extreme as I have been hearing.
Details: My Mac is 3 years old (Apple Care ran out 2 days ago!). I recently upgraded from 4GB of ram to 16GB.
    Router is a Linksys E4200.
    I have an Iphone-4s
My husband has an older MacBook running Lion.
I connect to an Epson Artisan 835 with wifi via my router
We have no need to have the Apple devices communicate with each other.
I am currently running an appliance in Virtual Box. One reason I want to move to Yosemite is to be able to run it in VMware Fusion instead.
    Thanks.

    Hi there CarylLynne,
If you upgrade to Yosemite, you should be able to use the following article to revert to the previously installed OS using Time Machine, named:
OS X Yosemite: Revert to a previous OS X version
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Deploying the SCCM 2012 Client to WES 7 devices that are locked down with the FBWF using 2007 task sequence via WEDM.

I'm wondering how people are migrating their embedded devices that are using the FBWF. I've done some googling and it seems like most people are just re-imaging the devices and after migrating a single device i see why. Its not a pretty process. This will
be a long description but ultimately my question stems more from trying to find a better way to execute the device migration from 2007 to 2012.
Some back ground on my situation might be in order here. I'm in the process of wrapping up our 2007 to 2012 migration. We have a 2007 infrastructure that was a central server with 2 primaries and 286 secondary site servers. I've consolidated that to a single
2012 primary site server that hosts all the main roles. There are 2 more servers in the data centers both operating solely as push distribution points I'll refer to them as 2012 01 02 and 03. I'm over half way through the migration and so far haven't needed
to offload any site roles. There are almost 10,000 clients now reporting to the 2012 site server and almost a 100 field servers pulling content from 2012 02 as their source dp as pull dp is the only way forward for this many devices. I've read the horror stories
of trying spin up 200 plus push dps. We are running PKI. I'm at the point now where i need to start migrating the Windows Embedded Seven Standard clients that have the 2007 sccm client on them with WEDM for write filter handling.
What i'm wondering is if anyone has any pointers for me regarding migrating the WES 7 devices. My plan that i've come up with is to somehow script the process using a 2007 WEDM Task Sequence to try and migrate them over to 2012. Things are complicated as
I need to somehow script the install, the policy checkin, hardware inventory, software inventory, and validate the SCEP client installs before I reboot the device one last time to enable the FBWF. How I handled the SCCM 2007 client install on these devices
when they were provisioned was to just create a batch file that would sleep for ten minutes then check to see if the inventoryagent.log file had been created yet. I realize now that is inefficient as i can kick off the inventory using a WMI method once the
client has installed. Also I need to make sure the machine gets its first policy as that is how it creates the communication using PKI through that first policy transfer and that also finalizes the client install. The biggest piece i'm uncertain about in this
    regard is the SCEP client.
I had to change the SCEP client install from yes to no in the default client settings as we have some Mcaffee servers that can't have the SCEP client on them. I have incremental updates enabled on the collection that has the policy that installs the SCEP
client but this will take an unknown amount of time unless i force the environment to update as the device starts in 2012 install, or if I could kick off the SCEP isntall... IDK. I'm also wondering if i should keep the device in the migration process until
i validate it has its proper scep policy applied which I believe can be validated by a registry key somewhere.
Once the 2012 client gets installed will that cause it to lose its place within the 2007 Task Sequence? Considering its going to take a minimum of 2 reboots I'd normally use the task sequence to handle its progression through the process.
I'm also considering trying to use an Orchestrator runbook, as that would be a good way to keep track of the migration process as each device migrates. Especially since this might take several seperate scripts.
I'm going to take a stab at scripting the migration process, but if anyone has any pointers that might make this a less complicated I'd really appreciate it as I've got about 3000 of these devices that need to be migrated over. The other things i've learned
the hard way is any time you have something this complicated over the course of 3000 devices you will run into unknowns and the failure rate increases. I'm in the precarious position of having to not only build this process out but in some situations have
it complete in the shortest amount of time possible as we have sites running 24x7. I know the end users behavior all to well and they will just keep hitting the power button sometimes even though their not supposed to so they can get their device functional
again. In those situations i'd end up, if i'm lucky with a device that no longer has a healthy SCCM client in either environment and the write filter disabled.
So like i said any pointers anyone could throw my way i'd really appreciate. I manually went through the migration process on a single device for proof of concept and ended up with almost 2 pages of pseudo code for my migration script/scripts.
    Thanks,
    -K.R.

    Hi,
In R2 there are some new variables you can use to solve this,
    http://ccmexec.com/2014/12/smstsmplistrequesttimeout-value-in-milliseconds/
In Sp1 though adding a step to sleep for 2-5 minuter after reboot and before the application install step is a common workaround.. a powershell command with "Start-Sleep
    -s 120" should do it.

If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc.  you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod.  I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard.

  • How do I see NEXT month in the calendar?

I've tried everything I can think of but I'm still stuck in April. I just wanted to see what day Cinco de Mayo falls on and I had to actually take out my phone. The horror.

You can use a Shared Photo Stream. Tap the Edit button selecting the photos then tap the Share icon to add a new Shared Photo Stream. Add your Apple ID when prompted. It can take some time to upload the photos. They shared photos will also be reduced resolution to optimize then to the devices screen and save network bandwidth.
The best option is to get them on to your computer organized into a photo library then sync them over to the iPad. This way your photos can be backed using a computers more reliable back up routine.
