The Ipod screen

On the iPod i was wondering why the screen is like cut off. If you look at the screen its not using the whole thing. Its like cut off a mm or so all around the screen. I can really see it outside or in a bright area. My friends also have this problem. thanks Nate

Hi,
What you see is perfectly normal, *not a problem*.
The screen size is 480 x 320 pixels, if you want to count them feel free, I'm sure they are all there.
The manufacturing process produces a base sheet LCD, it is then "wired" to make a certain area active i.e 480 x 320 active pixel area, the border you see around the display is simply excess area that was never meant to be used. The black frame on the underside of the glass is slightly above the active area and slightly larger so that when tilted none of the display is obscured.
So, when looking straight on, the none active border is visible.
Don't worry about it, that's just the way things are made but most people don't look that close.
Regards,
Dud.

    Hey Dean Marvin,
Thanks for the question. These two symptoms are probablyh related. To troubleshoot, let's try resetting your iPod:

  • (ipod 30Gig) doesn't display the song that is playing on the ipod screen

Every time I click on the song I want to listen to, the screen slides over and the new screen is blank. The song plays but the song that is "now playing" doesn't display any information on the screen at all. It is totally blank. Has anyone ever heard of this happening. I don't want to reset my ipod for such a small problem because I've erased a lot of the music I have on itunes. At the same time it is annoying to not see the song name/length/volume or album art.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I actually had this happen once and a reset worked. I think you are confused by what a reset is. A reset is when you press and hold the Menu and Select button for at least 6 seconds or until the Apple Logo apears; this does not erase music on your iPod. A restore is when you use the iPod updater to erase all of the files on your iPod and put it in the original Factory settings.

  • About viewing images that are not the same dimensions as the iPod screen

I sent some images to my iPod via email. I saved them to my photo library. When I went to look at them, I noticed something odd was happening: my iPod is sort of 'stretching' the images so they fit the entire screen of my iPod, even if that means a) cutting off parts of the image (either top and bottom or the two sides), or b) is stretching the dimensions of the image to fit the screen--I can't tell which is happening, though I think the former.
I can view the image correctly by pinching it a bit, but if I move to another image and come back, it's back to being stretched.
I know that in Photoshop I can add a black boarder (either top and bottom or on the sides), so the image with the border matches the dimensions of the screen, but that seems like a pain in the rear to do with each image. This seems like an odd quirk of the iPod, given that they are trying to use the camera and image viewing as a selling point.
Is there any setting on the iPod so I can keep it from doing this (I noticed that it does this even with photos I take with the iPod camera, because they have slightly different dimensions than the screen)? And if not, does anyone know the ratio (side to top) or resolution (in pixels) of the screen so I can match it.
    Thanks, David

So generous people; thank you for your time.
I visited the camera store and we discovered that my camera lcd was set to the maximum brightness level which completely distorted any understanding of my exposure. What I now see on the lcd in terms of ligt and shadow is very similar to what I see on my computer screen.
Maybe you can shed light on this:
I also may need to just upgrade my imac. On the camera store's late model imac my images were tac sharp but on my imac they look quite soft and still have less light.
There is also still some difference in terms of color settings. My camera's colors have a brighter pinkish tone and on the camera store's imac and mine the tone is yellowish orange.
I will try DPReview and Nikoncafe. My first step is to reset my cameras to factory defaults and then upload and compare.
Thank you both for your help

  • Information shown in the iPod Screen

    Hi,
I have my mp3 files with the following format
    <track number>. <artist> - <title>.mp3
I have all the albuns with the album art, and on the right side of the iPod Nano Screen, some musics shows:
    Filename
    Artist
    Album
    other musics shows:
    title
    artist
    album
I do not understand why this behaviour, but I really enjoy have the title instead the filename on the screen.
    Any ideas why this happen?
Is it possible to "tell" iPod that I want him to show me
    title
    artist
    album

Fix the titles and stuff in iTunes, then update your iPod from the file menu and you should be good, it should be that the file name is different that's all. So you just gotta change it in iTunes.

  • Replacing the iPod Screen

The plasic screen that covers the LCD screen, as well as the back reflecty thinggie on the back of the iPod are both scratched to ****. I'm looking to get these replaced. I went to Best Buy and they said that those kind of things aren't covered under warrenty, but Apple might be able to do that for a fee. I googled some websites that offer screen replacement, but I'm wondering if these are legit. I'd prefer to have Apple do it (i'm willing to pay for it). So does anybody know if Apple will replace the front and the back of the iPod? If not are any of these sites legit? Thanks in advanced.

  • My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • If it shows on the TV it doesn't show on the IPOD screen

    FYI
It seems that once you turn on the tv out setting on the ipod (so you can see the picture on your tv) you won't see the movie on your IPOD. I can only guess that once you are done with TV viewing you have to turn the TV out setting off in order to use the IPOD as a video viewer again.
    Just what I am guessing.

This is mainly to save battery life. Why would you need to watch it in both places?
You can set TV Out to ask. This is how I have it. Every time you play a video, you an option comes up as to TV On or TV Off.

  • Why is the ipod screen on all the time when plugged in

and conversely, why does the screen only show the time when you are actually walking around playing music?
Is there any way to change that? I want to see what song is playing, not what time it is or whatever that number on the screen means.
    thanks
    Bob

I don't want it to stay ON, ie lit -- I just want the information on the screen to stay the same, is that so hard? The time is on that screen anyway, why not give us an option to leave it that way? The battery lasts plenty long compared to older ipods.
