The most confusing broadband problem I've ever com...

Well, This all started about 3-4 days ago now. I was online one night and suddenly, everything Disconnected. However, not entirely.
The network shows that I am online with Internet access (Hence how I'm here right now posting this) But this is where it gets confusing.
I can do some things and I cannot do other things that require a simple Internet connection.. By all means, it Should work.
Here's some examples of what I can and Cannot do.
1. I cannot load a webpage like normal. eg, Google.
2. However when I use a Proxy, I can load a webpage. eg. Right now.. I'm using a proxy called Tor Network to access the site.
3. I cannot sign onto Windows live Messenger.  At all.
4. I can sign onto Skype.  Confused yet? : o
5. I cannot sign into my account on Imvu. (Yeah I use that)
6. I can sign into an MMO and play it. (For the noobs out there, MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online)
7. I cannot load emails through my usual program.
8. However my Mother can. :\
That's about it.
Some small details here..
This does not only affect my computer, but everyone's computer/Mobile/iPod that connects through this network.
We have had an IT Technician come in, and he was utterly clueless as I am. (I'm fairly experienced with computers and IT and so forth... This has me confused like nothing else)
We have tried turning the router On and Off again, many times. Including unplugging it.  Does nothing.
We've tried doing 'repairs' on the computers, of course.. Nothing
Also whatever the IT guy tried did not work either.
So please, if anyone can help us out with this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. : )
Thanks ^^

what kind of network do u mean.
"...affect everyones pc...mobile phones..."
If u just still mension HH shared for others then I will recommend u check line stats.
Have u changed router/modem with own ?? or been using own equipment??  this like to happen when u dont change MAC code to match MAC from oryginal HH. It did happen to me when I was on adsl2 with BT.
Simple change mac address to HH, and left disconnected router/modem for 30 mins and after that time.
Works without any problems till the end of contract. Similar sytuation I had with O2. Sometimes stopping work, again help change MAC code to the oryginal one, after change  havent got problem with wan connection.
Disconnect for 30mins -- min. The system will realase assigned MAC code and will assign MAC of router/modem again. With oryginal provaided routers/modem's this helps also.
Hmm.. some one make u bad "joke" and change settings in router or your son been try set port forwarding and activate function "BT power save" <-- this function, work sometimes, some times does not respond and HH hard reset is needed to get back online) and mess with firewall. Just been try everything to play online or due to bad pings think that was something to do with port forwared firewall and mess about it.
Check adsl filters as well to make sure that all are ok and none of the phone at home is connected without filter ( if u use NTE5 u dont need filter)
If everything fail. borrow router/modem from anybody and connect or take your HH to your friend which has BB from same provaider and connect to the landline and check that is working. If not then call BT for replace and send back your router to them for either repair or replace. The adsl port could be damaged as communication dont work proply. HH could get overheat due to hard use etc. and keeping it next to wall heather.
Check what ever u can check at home and check HH. Once u get this checked ring BT. Trust me u will save your time, if someone will want to carry the check by u just wait 10sec yes dont work etc. and u will get new hub or if its fine then eginner will take a look at DSLAM etc.
you can also remove face plate and check that both wires seat tight in "V" shaped slot's.  Just touch them and let see that move, if move then u should ring BT as this is their problem, or u can do this on your own, push them in tight.( just dont mension that u ever did this, as u get any other problem in future the BT will say that u broken it) If u are familar with IT etc. You cannot do nothing wrong.
I think if u hold for 5sec reset buttons it will restore to defaults. ( just carry the checks once u check line stats and website for any problems with your exchange etc)

  • Is this the most confusing manual ever written?

I think so. Just trying to do a simple DVD in Version 4 and I'm reading a manual that seems to have been written by cyborgs with hypo-polycarbon series 442k119 ntellect chips placed in their data dispersion centers.
Next time, how about a chapter that tells you how to just do a simple one to five button DVD? If my friend can explain it to me in 5 minutes over the phone, why can't Apple put it down in their manual as clearly and concisely as he did?

I spent a week studying the manual carefully from cover to cover, but found it poorly organized and difficult to follow. I've learned more from diving in and asking questions when I'm stuck. I think it's an excellent program, very powerful and intuitive. I think the manual scares people who might otherwise use it and get comfortable with it. DVDSP gives me a lot of flexibility when clients blithely ask for something that would have been impossible with my previous template-only software, which is why I bought it.

  • The most awful pvr box I have ever had the misfort...

I got BT Vision a few months ago and have, right from the start, been frustrated by the terrible box. I've been using pvrs for many years, my favourite manufacture is Humax, fwiw.
    BT box good points:
The padding where it will pad programmes that start one after the other on the same channel - the box will pad either side of both programs.
BT box bad points: - here goes:
Terrible remote reception - point the remote at anything other than the box and it might work - point it directly at the box, and it wont.
Doesn't work well with aftermarket/replacment remotes - I have a Logitech Harmony One remote that has, up until now, worked with every single item I have programmed it to. Not with this box though.
Sluggish remote response - when fast-fowarding through adverts and pressing play to resume, a lottery ensues as to the replay point. It might be 12 seconds after the point when you press play, or 1 minute before you pressed play.
Bad reception? I constantly get messages about poor/low freeview signal via this box, however, the two other pvrs (both dual tuner) and dtv never have any problems with signal - they all report a signal strength and quality of 10/10.
Menu. Who designed the menu? Imagine a list of 10 things. On every other single item I have ever owned, if I'm at the top menu item and I want the bottom menu item, I simply press the 'up' button to scroll from the top directly to the bottom. It's not rocket science, surely? Not on this box. To get to the bottom you have to press 'down' several times - this is made all the more difficult due to the FACT that this box is terrible with remote reception. This is the worst thing about the menu system, but the rest is equally unintuitive. Getting into menu options is incredibly fustrating.
Constant hanging - I'm finding that this box needs more resets than most others I have owned - kind of interrupts your viewing, no?
Sound - the sound stage constantly distorts, calling for a rewind to reset the sound. The box is connected via S/PDIF to my DSPAX640SETII amp that works fine with all the other connected equipment.
Apart from that, it's great. Not.
    Comments?

Terrible remote reception - You may have a problem with your remote. OR, there is other AV eqpt interfering with the signal (like a light auto sensor on your TV).
Not one of my other 9 items has this problem
Doesn't work well with aftermarket/replacment remotes - No, it doesn't.
Sluggish remote response - when fast-fowarding through adverts and pressing play to resume, a lottery ensues - you're pressing the FF button too many times. It has 2xFF, 3xFF, 4xFF and then an uncontrollable super 4xFF.
No I am not. I'm fully versed on how multi speed works thankyou very much. Even 4xFF (in your parlance) causes the lottery effect.
Menu. To get to the bottom you have to press 'down' several times - No you don't. Simply press the volume button down to get to the next bottom screen. Or up to go back.
On every single other item I have ever owned, to scroll to the bottom of a selected menu is acchieved by pressing the 'up' key. Every single one.
    Let me demonstrate:
You press the menu button and the below appears, with 'play' highlighted:
    Play
    Settings
    Picture
    Audio
    Info
On every single product I have ever owned or used, to get to 'Info' from 'Play' is done by simply pressing the up key once. On the BT Vision box, you'd have to press 'down' 4 (or in reality, 7or 8) times to get to 'Info' from 'Play'.
Constant hanging - You may have a problem or fault with your box/internet connection.
I have no problem with my internet connection.
Sound - I cannot comment on this. The Vision box only uses Dolby 5.1 surround Sound for On Demand films only. So I do not have my box connected to any external AV eqpt.
    Well - it does.
Hope you get all the above resolved.
    Me too
    Rank - Mostly Harmless.

  • Skype is the most confusing and frustrating intern...

    hi
i have been using skype for five years and still have not figured out why it is so difficult to do business with these maniacs in luxemburg .  i do not even know where luxemburg is .  every month they attempt to charge my credit card $2.99 for the cost of a north american subscription . every month my bank blocks the charge because it came from europe .  i have to have pre approval for all charges that originate outside of the usa .  this is a bank policy which is meant to protect me from charges that look unusual .  then skype -- without even contacting me first -- immediately cancels my subscription .  i never know the exact date that skype will attempt to charge my account $2.99 .  so i am never able to inform my bank when to permit a charge from luxemburg to go through my account .  also it has never been clear to me whether or not i am supposed to pay $30.00 for my skype number each year .  why doesn't skype make it more clear that i am supposed to pay for my skype number ?  are they embarrassed that it cost $30.00 to buy a personal skype number on top of the $30 plus dollars that i pay for the subscription ?  this would mean that skype is actually $60.00 or more per year .  why doesn't skype just tell their customers that instead of pretending that everything is free ?  why is there absolutely no way to directly communcate with anybody at skype and find out what i am supposed to pay ?  skype is a world wide communications company that refuses to communicate with their own customers and keeps cutting their customers' phone off even when the customer has a subscription or paid personal skype number .  can't they get somebody in the middle of the usa to answer the **bleep** phone !??

I haven't forgotten my log in name or my password.  I'm being told by the blue skype log in page that "We can't open skype. You are already signed in on this computer.  Please sign out and try again."  I've signed out yesterday or previously.  Why won't this work?  This is the 4th time this has happened to me.  I can't get any answers or help.  ????    I not sure if there is some new update for windows or skype that is causing this problem and when i go into admin tools i see no error message.
Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
If you are on the latest Skype 6.5/6.6/6.7/6.9/6.10/6.11/6.13/6.14 version, then do also this:
Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • HT2534 This was the most tortuous account setup I've ever encountered. I now have 1.5 Apple IDs - one which seems to work and one which doesn't,

I bought my Ipod touch about 10 days ago. When I first looked into creating an Apple ID, the option not to give credit card details was there. Unfortunately, I didn't go ahead and create it at that point.
Yesterday, when I'd decided to create the ID, the 'none' option had apparently vanished. However, by the time I was 'asked' for card details, I'd already created the Apple ID, so, following the advice here didn't help (account already exists, etc).
In the end, I used a different email address, followed the instructions here, and things seem to be working (as in, I seem to be logged in to an Apple Id), although I never in fact had to download and install the free app (Spotify, if that helps). Nor does downloading album art seem to work, even though I'm apparently logged in to my account.
    It shouldn't be this convoluted!
All this aside, I'm extremely pleased with the Ipod.

I can't help but agree. I tried to sign up my wife via her android ... totally frustrated by the unforgiving convoluted security hoops ... too easy to enter skype name or password too many times and get blocked for 24 hours, or suddenly have too many recovery codes per day and be blocked again and now I read your payment issues and I begin to wonder, is this service really worth the trouble. If there are that many users out there trying to penetrate and scam the system, perhaps one shouldn't use it anyway!

Hi, CharlotteSonoda, and welcome to the Community,
Skype does not host a customer service call-center; nor does Skype use a generic or central e-mail address; instead, Skype employs a website web-form process to reach their customer service unit.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service  You would need to contact Skype Customer Service for questions related to your subscriptions.
If you have not used Skype in a while, remember we need to download and install the Skype sofware onto our computer/device first: Download Skype

  • So what are the most common ML problems?

I want dictation on my computer, I already have it on my phone and pad.. but I am scared. Normally I would install it on a second drive first, but not only do I not really have the room, my boot drive is an SSD and I'm very spoiled... no interest in going backwards. But of course... what if I upgrade and blow it up?
So are there some pretty common issues?  I looked, but couldn't find a list of "What Mountain Lion Breaks" -

You didn't look very hard, I take it. If you want dictation just get Dragon Dictate or Dragon Express.

My guess (sorry if it's wrong, not much to go on)
It sounds as if you are being asked for your system password, the one you chose when you first switched on your computer. But perhaps you are mixing this up with your Adobe password. Easily done, but stop doing that and put in the right password.

  • Finally Found a Solution to the No Screen update problem!

Ever since CS3 came out, Photoshop and Illustrator in particular (the worst offenders) wouldn't run properl
y on my system unless I did a full reboot before running either. Photoshop would load, but all palettes would be empty. Illustrator would forget t
o update the client area of the screen. Neither application was useable in that state. I have complained about it before, to no avail.
Now I have found the fix: Increasing the User Handle and GDI handle limits in Windows.
Here's an article on how to do this:
Increasing User Handle and GDI Handle Limits
Have you ever been working with a good number of applications at once? Are you a naturally born multi tasker? Alright, answer me this - who has had Windows buckle under the weight of all of these applications and display error messages stating that the system is out of memory or out of resources, buttons and menus do not work correctly, or you get an error sound but no message on the screen? I’ve hit this numerous times, to the point that I’ve lost work because of it…
(By the way, Adobe, can you please implement that little feature that Microsoft Office has had for years known as “auto save”? I don’t know how many times I’ve managed to completely max out Windows designing a web site and have had Photoshop fall over dead and disappear off my screen, only to find out that when I open Photoshop up again that the entire thing saved jack-all, all of those layers and documents gone poof into the void of darkness… if Microsoft can do it, why can’t you?)
Sometimes this happens even when you have a lot of system memory (RAM) still available. For instance, open up Internet Explorer and hold Ctrl+N to open up as many Internet Explorer windows as you can before menus, icons, and menus start displaying incorrectly, disappear, buttons aren’t clickable, etc. Close a few out and check your Windows Task Manager in the “Performance” tab, I bet you will find that a lot of your Physical Memory is still available.

“Okie-dokie, if I have all of this memory still available, why is Windows saying I’m out of memory and out of system resources!?”
Simple. You have hit the “user handle” or “GDI handle” limit in Windows. This limit is there for two reasons:
        * Leaky applications or faulty code & malware can’t easily crash the system by attempting to overflow the system with GDI handles, making everything un-usable until a reboot is performed.
        * To prevent a user from opening up more applications than the system can handle.
If you have 1 gigabyte (or 1024MB) of RAM or higher, the default User Handle and GDI Handle limits can be pretty restrictive when running a large working set of applications that demand the most from your system and tax it heavily.
    “Do you feel my pain?”
Yes, of course. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing this article that is more than likely a good 2 or 3 pages in length.
I’m a designer and coder, I use Adobe Photoshop with a lot of documents opened up - on top of that, I usually listen to music while working as it helps me work better, so Windows Media Player 10 is usually open on my machine. Also opened are Windows Messenger, Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, SmartFTP (one of the best FTP clients I’ve ever used, highly recommended), Microsoft Word, a few dozen Internet Explorer windows, some Mozilla Firefox windows with a few tabs opened in each one, and EditPlus 2 for coding.
That’s a pretty heavy working set of applications, and I demand the most out of my computer when it comes to multitasking (I have a Pentium 4 2.66GHz, with 1.5GB of RAM just for those who are wondering).
I too have nailed these handle limits - more than once. After much searching and pondering I have finally come up with a working solution around this issue (hurray!)
“Yeah yeah, stop rambling and cut to the chase!”
First and foremost, I must warn you that modifying these settings incorrectly can render your Windows installation near useless. Also, depending on your computer configuration and the amount of RAM in your system, you may wish to play around with the numbers until you find a setting that is perfect for your computer.
To back up everything, open the Registry Editor (click on Start, Run, and then type “regedit.exe” (without the quotes).
    To backup a registry key:
        * In the Registry Editor on the left hand side, you will see the navigation pane. Using your mouse or keyboard, navigate to the following subkeys:
        * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems
        * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
        * Right click on each of the subkeys above in the left hand pane and from the context menu that appears, choose the “Export” option. Save the exported registry data file where ever you wish, but make sure that it will be accessible should we need to restore the files.
“OK, I’ve backed everything up! Now what!?”
Don’t quit the Registry Editor just yet - we still need to make some modifications in order to increase the handle limits in Windows.
With the Registry Editor opened, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems. You will notice a set of “REG_MULTI_SZ” and “REG_EXPAND_SZ” keys in the right hand pane. The one that we are interested in modifying is called “Windows”.
To modify the key, double click on it. It should look something like this:
        %SystemRoot%\system32\csrss.exe ObjectDirectory=\Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,512 Windows=On SubSystemType=Windows ServerDll=basesrv,1 ServerDll=winsrv:UserServerDllInitialization,3 ServerDll=winsrv:ConServerDllInitialization,2 ProfileControl=Off MaxRequestThreads=16
The section of this string we are interested in modifting is “SharedSection”.
In the SharedSection part of the string you will notice 3 numbers. What we are interested in is the middle value, “3072?. Modify this value so that the middle number is “8192?.
It should look something like this after modifying the value:
       %SystemRoot%\system32\csrss.exe ObjectDirectory=\Windows SharedSection=1024,8192,512 Windows=On SubSystemType=Windows ServerDll=basesrv,1 ServerDll=winsrv:UserServerDllInitialization,3 ServerDll=winsrv:ConServerDllInitialization,2 ProfileControl=Off MaxRequestThreads=16
Now that we’ve changed this, lets continue, shall we?
In the left hand pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows. In the right hand side, you will see two REG_DWORD values, named “GDIProcessHandleQuota” and “USERProcessHandleQuota”. We will need to modify both of these.
The first key we will want to modify is “GDIProcessHandleQuota”. This keys value can be set between 256 and 16,384 (maximum), and the default value is 10,000. I’d recommend using 15,000 as a value for this key, however if you are doing a lot of multitasking, shoot for the stars and go with 16,384.
This key can not be set past 16,384 as it is the maximum acceptable value.
Now, lets modify “USERProcessHandleQuota”. This keys value can be set between 200 and 18,000 (maximum), with a default value of 10,000. I’d recommend increasing this value to the same number used with “GDIProcessHandleQuota”, however as previously mentioned if you are working with a hefty application workload, shoot for the stars and go wth the maximum value of 18,000.
This key can not be set past 18,000 as it is the maximum acceptable value.
Do NOT attempt to increase these values past the maximum - Windows will become very unstable and may even stop working correctly. If Windows starts acting up after changing these values, lower them until the issues are resolved, or restore the backups of these keys’ values that we created before making modifications.
Now that you’ve changed these values, restart your computer and tax the system using the Internet Explorer trick mentioned previously - open Internet Explorer and hold down Ctrl+N on your keyboard to open up new Internet Explorer windows. Continue this until menus, buttons, and user interface elements stop working correctly. Also, open any applications you run day-to-day while you are performing this, so that you can get more of an idea if you have everything configured correctly.
You may also want to monitor your memory usage and handles information in Task Manager to see whether or not the above registry values need any more modifications.
I hope this helps with any multi-tasking issues you may have run into while running Microsoft Windows, now get back to work!

You work like I do.  It's very cool that you published this fix for XP people, but yow, what a lot of detailed things to check/set!  Seems like it might just be simpler just to move up to Windows 7...

  • Two pages binds on the same bean class problem

    i'm developing an HR application
    at the end of application
the customer asked us for some requirements
the requirements needed us to use some main forms that insert data
as popup dialoges from other forms
we pass the object to be inserted from another form
its ok we took a copy from the jspx
and made another form that is used as a dialog
and binds to the same bean class of the original page
    components and action ... etc
    its all good
    but a problem occurred
when we tried this with pages of session scope
when we popup the dialog form
and navigate to the original form
i find some parts of the dialog form at the bottom of the main from
i find many extra components at the bottom
you can say when i go to dialog and return to original
i find the dialog form at the bottom of the original form that binds to the same class

I second Simon. Try not to put such stuff in sessions. See if you can achieve the same with either requestScope or to the most pageFlowScope.

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:

  • Flash Player is the Most annoying thing ever

Cant get adobe to work. It keeps freezing my computer for about 60 seconds when i try to watch youtube or something. 'Adobe flash player has crashed do you want to send crash report?' comes up on the screen. Then low and behold it starts working maybe 2 days later then it stops working again in another 2 days! And its a constant cycle like this. Its simply wrecking my head. I've read all the forums and tried everything, nothing seems to be working, and the 'great' people at the help centre gave me great advise, they told me to go to the forums!!! Is that their job to redirect people to the forums? Easiet job ever, i want that job, muppets! Sorry i'm ranting now but its so frustrating!

Hi, you didn't mention any computer info, but you are probably using FF(Firefox)? No one is going to help you until you post your computer information, 64bit or 32bit, browsers Installed and version numbers.
Flash Player is not the problem, it's everything that a user has Installed into their browser most of the time that causes problems. Or they don't have Flash Player Installed correctly and a hundred other reasons:-)
    Thanks,

I have followed the directions and my iphone is not installing the iOS 7.0.2.  I have the most recent version of itunes on my laptop commuter.  my iphone is attached to my laptop via usb port.  The laptop uses dsl not wifi.  Is that my problem?

Exactly what version of iTunes are you running? And DON'T say 'the latest version'... CHECK the version number. You need to be running 11.1 or higher.
