The new business model?

The new business model is inflexible. It might be suitable for many scenarios, but I will be looking for alternatives to Photoshop and the Premiere, wherever possible. This subscription model could be a boon to some businesses; Adobe will ultimately loose both long-term customers, as well as potential new users. A bad move overall.

I'm quite sure the user base is in the millions.  And I can't find the reference now because of the flood of buzz about the announcement, but it seems to me I read that the number of Creative Cloud subscribers is already quite huge.  I'm not sure your personal opinions are correct, given the wild success of the program already.  Stockholders have noticed.
The short and simple fact is this:  Adobe's got the goods; professionals want the goods, and will pay for them.
Yes, it's more expensive for a casual photographer to subscribe than it has been to upgrade to every other version of Photoshop Standard, and there is the limitation that you don't get to keep using an old version of Photoshop once you've terminated a subscription, but it's a professional product suite, and people who truly need it pay for it.
Perhaps Photoshop Elements is worth another look.
Yes, it may sting to learn that you can no longer afford the top-of-the-line graphics editing tool, but...  How many of us can afford top-of-the-line anything?  Do you have the top-of-the-line camera from your favorite manufacturer?  How about your computer?  Your car?
I think something that would help ease a lot of minds is a reasonable exit strategy.  One that shows some appreciation by Adobe for your having been a cloud subscriber.
What if, for example, after 2 years of keeping your subscription current you were allowed to continue to use any released revision of Photoshop 2 years old or older upon terminating your subscription?

  • New Business Model: What kind of consultant will arise?

    Some evangelists predict the 'death of the consultant' as is there. To what extent we will be affected by this revolution?
    "With the availabilty of the HANA technology, exisiting business processes become real-time, process steps become obsolete, new process will evolve that were not possible so far and companies will invent new business models based on new products and services - all that requireed consultants who support that transition!"

    What do you think?

    I don't believe BW is really dying as a "modeling environment".
    What might probably happen is for BW to disappear as an additional persistence layer (the BW Box), i.e. the Embedded BW scenario tends to gain more and more visibility. With virtual infoproviders and transformations being pushed down to the HANA layer, you can get pretty much the same results than a persistent BW with very good performance and 1/10th of the data footprint (zero replication).
    This is already true today. Check for example the details on the analytical applications on top of SFIN (Smart Financials) 1.0. SFIN is the new FI module (aka HANA GL), rebuilt from scratch on top of HANA. i.e it is the first piece of ERP that was not adapted but born on top of an in-memory architecture. It was what HANA was developed for in the first place (i.e. the next-generation SAP ERP architecture). And its analytical applications, for example the new SAP Smart Cash Management app, are completely built on top of Virtual Infoproviders in Embedded BW (i.e. BW as a LDW, Logical Data Warehouse). This means the modeling skills of BW Consultants are not gonna disappear, they'll still be required since BW infoproviders on top of VIPs, Composite Providers, BEx Queries etc. are all gonna be there for a long, long time.

    SAP delivers the following planning applications:
    Cost center planning on years and periods
    Project planning on years and periods
    Internal order planning on years and periods
    Market segment planning on years and periods
    Profit center planning on years and periods
    Functional area planning on years and periods
    P&L planning on years and periods
    These applications consist of “local” BI content. “Local” means that this BI content is shipped with the Smart Financials system and not with the “central” BI content. Local content runs on the ERP system directly using the “Embedded BW” and does not need a separate BW installation. The content for Smart Financials planning consists of HANA views, InfoProviders, MultiProviders, Aggregation Levels, Queries, Filters, Planning functions, Planning sequences, and Analysis Workbooks.
    Another point is that this means that the investments that SAP customers have made on top of BW are also going to be protected.
    They just need to adapt the Data Source layer to the new ODP (Operational Data Provisioning) concept and the rest will pretty much work as is.
    The same adaptions are being made by SAP in the standard BI Content.
    Best regards,
    Henrique.

  • DECEPTION is the current business model

       Most of us have felt deceived at some point in our lives, and as consumers we must realize that the corporations have no interest in spending time with making us aware. That really is our job, although as busy working people, we have grown to depend on the person on the other end to help us understand what we are agreeing to. Ushering us to the point of contract signing is the objective, if we forget or otherwise have limited time to ask the right question BEFORE agreeing to things, then legally we are responsible for what we agree to. However I assert that in spirit, FAIRNESS is what we expect and disclosure is what we hope for. Where things go really wrong though is, when we ask questions and are given inaccurate and even egregiously false information. No matter if it was slack training or missed opportunities (by reps to look up answers) in the long run it's we the customer who pays for mistakes, not corporate. Gone are the days when competition controls practice, because changing carriers is no more effective at empowering us than simple complaints. Education empowers us, educating ourselves prior to signing and educating ourselves after being treated badly, these are actions that have the best chance of results. Deception by omission. Deception by distraction. And yes deception by inaccuracy are all part of our experience at times. We never see confused and frustrated customers in the ads, nor will we. Becoming cynical is our normal reaction, but it does not fix anything. ALL major corporations engage in deception, because it works !  It works often enough to make money. Once we understand why they do it, we can move on to accomplish the goals we have for our own bottom line and to serve our interests. Let's learn from (education) and properly respond to (advocacy,activism) these problems in meaningful ways that combine expression and action.

    Hi, Thanks for contacting me. I'll tell you right now that if it wasn't for my daughter, I would drop verizon today and not look back. Their free phones that I tried out but did not like and sent back have cost me 65.00 a piece so far. Their customer service was terrible and I am basically done with them. I will keep them so that my daughter can enjoy her phone for now but given the opportunity I will drop them. and once this is over I will never get anything from verizon again and I will never sign up for another contract thru any carrier. I'm fed up with their lack of respect , them making up their own rules as they go along, their lack of respect and their deceptive business practices. Thanks , Vito

  • Why is the NFC option on the newer T models gone?

    I'ved looked closely at the spec sheet and all options, and correct me if I'm wrong, but NFC is not an option anymore. Why? More and more ultra low budget phones and tablets come with NFC, so it seems very unlikely that cost savings is a factor.
    Why I would really miss NFC for my possible future laptop is for security reasons. Current biometric technologies are just not safe/reliable enough, and typing and remembering good passwords is just cumbersome. NFC on the other hand is much more versatile and secure, as you obviously can use multiple NFC cards for multiple complex and long passwords. And to boot the option of being able to combine NFC, biometrics and/or typing a password for two or three factor authentication would be very desirable to have. Again, due to NFC being quite inexpensive to build in, this is an uncessary step backwards.
    If the NFC option is either hidden, or is for some reason not yet listed for the newer models (but will be), than please do tell. If both are not the case, than I really really hope that Lenovo reconsiders offering the NFC option again when the future Skylake revisions can be purchased.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I wouldn't bother too much about the missing NFC option, because there is actually nothing you can do with the build in Broadcom NFC device. I've got a T540p with NFC but the driver just installs a useless NFC-Proximity-Device instead of providing proper PC/SC drivers and there is no Software which can use it (for Windows 7). Just search this forum for "NFC" and you won't find any reasonable answers to questions about what to do with this strange NFC-like device. For Win8 Lenovo provides the "QuickConnect NFC Utility" which could easily win any "most useless tool" award.
    In short: this NFC device isn't only cheap, but also worthless and now it seems to be gone which is a good thing. Buy an external contactless cardreader if you want to have a usable NFC device!

  • Is there a way to disable the option to save files in the cloud for a companies user base in the new subscription model??

    Our corporation is mandated by privacy laws within provincial legislation that prevents us from using cloud based storage outside of our province for the storage of data.  We are unable to continue using Adobe products based on the new subscription based model due to the inclusion of cloud based storage.  We need to have a way to disable the ability/option for our large corporate user base to store data files in the cloud.  Merely having the "option" to store files in a location of one's choice is not sufficient based on the policies we are legally forced to adhere to.  Without the option of disabling the cloud storage for our user base we will be forced to look at other vendors products to fill the needs we have that are currently filled by the Adobe line of products.  We would prefer to stay with Adobe products...so if someone knows how to disable this option (via registry edits, etc.), please advise.

    hi Nikolay,
    there is no clean solution for your problem. Browsers cache files by url, you can avoid caching appending in query string unique value per deployment. For example
    _layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<current date> - will be refreshed from cache when day changes
    _layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<GUID> - if guid is generated on every request, this file should never cache
    _layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<product version> - more preferable solution, browser will update cache on every new version that was deployed
    Actually, ScriptLink should take care about this, internally it has a method that appends unique id into query string based on js file content, if content changed, hash is also changed and new unique id is generated.

  • Transitioning sites to the new Business Catalyst rendering engine (BC.NEXT)

    The beta test I did resulted in a broken site I tested it on
    This is unacceptable implementation practice, unfortunately typical Adobe bulling partners
    What is also disappointing is the cowardly management practice of making this email announcement on the Saturday of a long weekend prior to the implementation.
    Totally lacks respect for Partners.
    Customers paid in good faith for sites, it is very inappropriate that Adode BC screws sites on a platform that was sold to us as partners as able to move forward without compatibly issues
    Be ashamed BC management ,very ashamed
    so what happens now to broken sites!

    Email received 0624am AU EST Sat 42 01 2015
    Live chat was unavailable on the Saturday morning, tried several times and it did not display
    Will just wait til the dust settles and see what happens with other clients. No time to bother with this sort of supplier management planning and notifications attitude
    Starting Wednesday, January 28th, we will begin gradually transitioning the Business Catalyst sites to our new rendering engine.
    Already used in production by thousands of sites, this new engine is faster, more reliable and gives you access to additional functionality like named parameters for modules, Liquid language support and increased SEO score by enabling browser caching for static assets, plus our new admin editor with HTML 5 support and enhanced code view (in the beginning, we'll deploy with those features set to off but they can be enabled via the Beta Features page). As part of the transition, new features or enhancements will only be included in this new system engine.
    The transition process starts on Wednesday and will be completed towards the end of this spring, when the current rendering engine will be decommissioned. It will be a multi-stage process that is looking to gradually move sites while limiting the customer impact. You can find below the transition schedule:
    •    Milestone 1 (Jan 28, 10:00 AM UTC): Existing trial sites & all sites on webBasics and webBasics+ plans will be transitioned to the new engine. Additionally, all new trial sites will be created on the new engine.
    •    Milestone 2: All sites on the webMarketing site plan
    •    Milestone 3: All partner sites
    •    Milestone 4: webCommerce sites located on the EU datacenter
    •    Milestone 5: webCommerce sites located on the AU datacenter
    •    Milestone 6: webCommerce sites located on the NA datacenter
    •    Milestone 7 (late April): All remaining sites will be switched to the new version; the current version will be decommissioned.
    Note: The dates of the next milestones will be announced in time on the Site Transition Schedule page, based on the progress of the transition. We estimate that all sites should be fully transitioned to the new engine no later than mid Q2 this year.
    The move does not include any updates to the admin user interface that will impact your customers and should not have any impact on the site up time, performance or functionality either. Partners will be able follow an updated transition schedule by visiting the Site Transition Schedule page and subscribing to the transition plan email alerts.
    Even if we we'll transition the sites automatically, we strongly encourage you to see how the sites behave on the new engine before it's actually scheduled for transition (you can enable temporarily a website to be rendered on the new engine, just for you, from the Admin Console Beta Features page). This will give you more confidence that the transition will go smoothly and you won't encounter any problems.
    For more information about the transition, read the Site Transition FAQ.
    Thank you for your support,
    The Adobe Business Catalyst Team

  • Conforming Dimensions - won't appear on the same business model diagram?!

    Hi,
    this is one of those where you have done something a 1000 times without thinking about it, and then suddenly I find when I have two subject areas with dimensions I want to share in the business model diagram the diagram will not display both sets of tables on the same diagram, no matter which way round I try it...
    i.e.
    I have 1 fact, 1 dimension in one subject area
    I want to join the fact to four other conforming dimensions in another subject area.
    I have seen a 10g hit saying go from the physical aliases - but this does not seem optimal, surely there must be a better way??
    I am on 11.1.1.5
    Anyone help?!
    thanks,
    Robert.

    Hi,
    additional info
    Physical layer; -
    Fact 1 - Dimension 1 - Fact 2 - Dimension 5
    - Dimension 2
    - Dimension 3
    - Dimension 4
    Subject Area 1 = Fact 1 and all directly joined Dimensions
    Business Model Diagram = Fact 1 and all directly joined Dimensions
    Subject Area 2 = Fact 2 and Dimension 5
    How do I join Fact 2 to Dimension 1,2,3??
    Anyone help?
    thanks,

  • Changing method signature according to the new business logic

    Dear java community,
    Recently I'm confronted with one issue and I want to know your opinion about this.
    ISSUE DESCRIPTION:
    In one of my business tier class I had method register user:
    public RegistrationStatus registerUser(User user, RegistrationType type, boolean confirmationRequired) throws MyBusinessException;According to new business rules I need to add 2 arguments to this methods (boolean isCustomBank and String customBankName).
    All arguments in method are mandatory and I need them in registration process. It is also possible that in future it would be needed to pass more arguments to registerUser method (according to changes in business logic).
    POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
    A) Create userContext (as map) and collect there some arguments that needed in registration process (it would be used not only in this method, so it also would contain some other arguments not needed in registration). Signature of this method would look like this:
    public RegistrationStatus registerUser(User user, RegistrationType type, Map userContext) throws MyBusinessException;Invocation would look like this:
    Map userContext = new HashMap();
    userContext.put(UserCostants.CONFIRMATION_REQUIRED, form.isConfirmationRequired());
    userContext.put(UserCostants.CUSTOM_BANK, form.isCustomBank());
    userContext.put(UserCostants. CUSTOM_BANK_NAME, form.getCustomBankName);
    myRegistrationService.registerUser(form.getUser, form.getRegistrationType(), userContext);And UserCostants:
    public interface UserCostants {
       String CUSTOM_BANK = "customBank";
       // other constants
    }B) Create userContext (as class wrapper of map from previous solution) and collect there some arguments that needed in registration process (it would be used not only in this method, so it also would contain some other arguments not needed in registration). Signature of this method would look like this:
    public RegistrationStatus registerUser(User user, RegistrationType type, UserContext ctx) throws MyBusinessException;Wrapper class:
    public class UserContext {
       Map userContext = new HashMap();
       public Boolean isCustomBank() { return (Boolean) userContext.get("customBank"); }
       public void setCustomBank(Boolean customBank) { userContext.put("customBank", customBank);}
       // other get and set metods
    }C) Create value object UserRegistrationData that would hold data ONLY for user registration method. Example of the signature:
    public RegistrationStatus registerUser(User user, RegistrationType type, UserRegistrationData registrationData) throws MyBusinessException;And value object class:
    public class UserRegistrationData {
       public boolean customBank;
       public boolean confirmationRequired;
       public String customBankName;
       public boolean isCustomBank() { return this.customBank; }
       public void setCustomBank(boolean customBank) { this.customBank = customBank;}
       // other get and set metods
    }D) Just add new arguments to method's signature:
    public RegistrationStatus registerUser(User user, RegistrationType type, Boolean confirmationRequired,
                                           boolean isCustomBank, String customBankName) throws MyBusinessException;E) your solution....
    QUESTIONS:
    I don't tell you my opinion and pros and cons because I want to know your independent opinion.
    Which of these solutions are good and why do you think they are good?
    Which of these solutions are bad and why do you think they are bad?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    I thought of you overload that method and add into the Map.
    Its best solution, even we use the same scenario in my application.
    Thanks and Regards
    Maruthi.

  • Can someone explain the new "Document Model" for open/save?

    Upgraded directly from OSX Snow Leopard Server to OSX Mountain Lion Server.
    Obviously, there are quite a few changes in how the new OS deals with file management.
    NOTE: For users with the non-Server version of Mountain Lion, when you enable RAID (Mirror) on your drives, you cannot create a Recovery Partition. So, no Time Machine backups, and "Revert To" has nothing to revert to. Nor does automatic backups work.
    So, what should be my process for managing files? Specifically, what is my recommended workflow in place of "Save" and "Save As" so that I do not rewrite over existing files and can save copies with a revised file name to the same or a different directory?

    If you Duplicate, then Save… asks for file name. ..."
    An extra-step workflow that mimics the old "Save As" command. I think I understand this.
    If you just Save a document you are working on, it saves just as it always did. However, if Versions is supported, Save forces a new version as opposed to the normal version interval. ..."
    This is what worries me with users. This will re-write the original file with changes incorporated, yet OSX users (who have adopted the new Mountain Lion workflow on standard OS machines) may be under the impression that an older version could be recovered, which it cannot.
    I need to have a clear understanding of what to explain to users to avoid issues with files "disappearing" when they believe they were protected by Versioning.

  • Will the logictech ultrathin keyboard for ipad mini fit the new retina model?

    Anyone know?

    For sure? No. Seeing as how no one has seen a new mini in person. However checking the specs there is a .3 millimeter size difference, there shouldn't be a huge issue.

  • The new recognition model

    While I was on vacation SCN changed the recognition model. Now we do have badges (is the Jive forum software prepared for a user that has the icons: SAP, Moderator, Mentor, Active Contributor and whatever other icon may come?) and the yearly contest runs a little bit longer.
    I still do not understanding how points and badges will lead more people do answer forum questions, to write blogs, articles or update the wiki. A badge and the associated points are not really an incentive. When trying to get people into SCN, one thing that is keeping them away is the missing visibility (to employer, client, SAP, CV, etc) of achievments done. SAP Mentor and Topic Leader keep them asking, but to get that status ... not all are willing to invest the time necessay.
    Why not recognize the active contributors with real assets, something they can show to their employers and justify that open SCN browser window? Something that will really serve as an incentive to activly participate? Like:
    500 pts: free OKP training access
    1000 pts: free virtual classromm training
    1500 pts: access to a training environment
    2000 pts: exchange of ideas with SAP / developers
    About the name change from top contributor to Topic Leader: To be a topic leader, well, you need to "lead" the topic. To lead it, you need to be actively involved. To monitor them and to give access to SAP events is a good idea to involve them in the real world. What about bringing the topic leaders and the SAP developers together so they can exchange experiences or ideas on a regular basis?
    br,
    Tobias

    Hello again,
    This discussion shifted a bit, but I find it very interesting.
    First of all, yes I can imagine very well  how points would end up being on sale on eBay After all even the famous, sturdy, (German) white SAP bag with the blue logo was found on eBay!
    I find your question "What does SAP get out of SCN?" interesting. It is true that SCN (and particularly the forums) are a way to leverage the community to support SAP customers and partners and alleviate the workload on the additional support channel. But I believe this is not all of it.
    Communication: the wealth of content on SCN. SAP Product and Solution Teams use SCN as a communication channel, and it can get very technical and therefore very useful to the community.
    Feedback from SAP users: in a way SCN members can influence SAP by providing feedback and communicating their pain points. There is a lot of information that SAP can find on SCN. Is this information proactively researched, analyzed, and routed back to the respective SAP organizations? Probably. But I'm too "young" on SCN to know for sure. Web analytics are a crucial tool for that. Think about the power of this information for SAP user groups such as ASUG and DSAG who could include SCN member feedback in the ir influence. Maybe this is already happening, I may just not be aware of it yet....
    "SCN as a showcase for SAP's Web 2.0 expertise"? This is not why it was created. Sure, the SCN numbers do help showcasing our leadership in this area (for a software company), but that was not the primary purpose of the site. Education, Support, Collaboration, Interaction, these are to me the reasons for SCN to exist. Do you want to add to this list?
    Another thing I would like to point is that participating on SCN should be a win win situation. SAP benefits from these contributions, but so do the SCN members. Many times I have read fellow members explain how working on a question that was tough at first helped them learn and grow their knowledge, something that will help them in future projects. And I'm just talking about the forums. Do you feel that way too?
    Gosh, again I am long. If you see "edited" at the end of this note it means I still haven't figured out how to be within the limit of characters
    Disclaimer 1: My writing style may be "stiff" but this is not my intention. I am not a native speaker either.
    Disclaimer 2: I am an SAP employee but these are purely my personal views
    Good weekend everyone,
    Laure

  • New business model

    I've just discovered a way for Sun to boost its revenues:
    http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/03/01/18/169202.shtml?tid=123
    they'll make billions...

    I stopped that habit since my cock-up with the slide show, I'm too crap at it.

  • Good morning. In October I'll be in america for job.I'd like to know if I can buy the new iphone model 5s and then use it in Italy.Could you tell me the correct number model I need to buy? Must I do anything there before come back in Italy ?thank you

    and also what about the apple care? Where is it better to sign it ? Could I make it in Italy?
    wait your ansewers?
    Thank you

    You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
    Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
    If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
    Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
    Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
    To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
    You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Starting a New Business - Is Apple the logical choice?

    I will be starting my own business shortly and have a dilemma about Apple. I use a mac at home but have always used a pc in work. I'd like to use Apple in the new business (it is in design etc.) but the cost is so much more than pc. Also I am not 100% sure if the ongoing support in Ireland is as strong for Apple as it is for pc. My head is saying stay with pc for work but my heart Apple.
    Has anyone started a small company and used Apple? What were your experiences, how robust is the system in a world dominated by PC and MS? Was the extra cost at the beginning offset by savings later etc.?
    Regards

    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Firts of all, as I'm sure you know, this is not the place to come for an unbiassed opionion But you will get some good technical answers.
    Secondly, Microsoft Office is the de facto standard in the business world and there are very few (if any) cross platform issues that will trouble you if you use that suite. Will you be using other apps apart from Office?
    Thirdly, and most relevant to your question, Foilpan is right. As a business owner/operator you sould look at the total cost of ownership over entire the life of the computers, rather than just the initial setup costs. You should factor is at least the following:
    1. initial purchase & setup
    2. ongoing secturity & antivirus prevention
    3. likely downtime to security issues
    4. cost of regular software updates
    5. support costs for issues that you cannot resolve yourself
    Particularly because of points 2 - 5 your TCO is likely to be much lower with Macs.
    For point 1, don't forget to compare apples with apples (small a)... it is very easy to look at a PC ad, see the low price and miss the fact it has no sound card, awful video card, low processor speed, terrible battery life, no firwire, no productivity software, etc.
    I have worked for years in companies that 'should' have PC's because they are not in the 'design world' but use Macs. I count myself lucky. Tellingly none of these business have considered switching to PC, even though many of their clients and customers were on PC.
    Over the last few years Apple had become more and more viable in an SMB environment and I think you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by going with Apple.

  • OBIEE 10g repository - Business model - logical table to physical table, column mapping is empty

    Hi, I am really new to OBIEE 10g.
    I already set up a SQL Server 2005 database in Physical and import a view vw_Dim_retail_branch.
    The view has 3 columns: branch_id, branch_code, branch_desc.
    Now I want to set up the Business model to map this physical table (view).
    I created a new Business model
    Added new logical table Dim_retail_branch
    In the sources, added the vw_Dim_retail_branch as source table.
    But in the Logical table source window,  column mapping tab, it's blank. I thought it should be able to identify all the columns from vw_Dim_retail_branch, but not. The show mapped columns is ticked.
    What should I do here? Manually type each column?

    HI,
    Just you can drag and drop the columns from physical layer to BMM layer.
    Select the 3 columns and drag and drop it to the created logical column in BMM layer.
