The Real Skinny on the Best Buy debacle.

I got my iPhone 4s at Apple today and i couldn't be HAPPIER! When i went to the best buy to return my "gift card" the rep and i had a bit of a conversation. according to him-they were told to inform all people to pre ordered that new iphones that arrived on launch day were on a first come first serve basis for those who waited in line. Of course either most weren't told this or they weren't untill they had already pre ordered.. So, our pre orders were for a second batch of phones delivered which would've made all pre orders arrive on the 31st. (hence why most receipts said Oct 31st) but since then public fury caused them to appease us all by saying they will fullfill all pre orders before walk ins..what they didn't tell you was ONLY WHEN THE PRE ORDERED PHONES ARRIVED ON THE 31ST. so in reality..they didn't do SH*T to fix the "walk ins taking priority to pre orders" issue... they just re-worded what they already had set up. again...not telling us anything about this. All they want to say is "we haven't gotten any-we don't know what's going on" bullsh*t!" They had NO intention of selling anyone who pre ordered a phone on launch day PERIOD. then when they had already messed up everything they couldn't stop what they had already done..which is to arrange shipments on the 31st for their pre order customers. Their stradegy? Dupe their existing customers for Pre orders but still get the walk in money from those who just wander in and say "hey got an iphone?" it's big business for them..a big let down for the rest of us. Jump the ship and go to apple.

This is like what 862CIA had said that some one from corporate had told them as well (at least in parts) that is why some people had receipts say available 10/'14/2011 and the majority said 10/31/2011. Several people from corporate have confirmed that BB DID NOT receive ANY Sprint phones
862CIA Quote "
I was the third person to preorder at my local BBY.
I used to work at Best Buy so I have been getting constant updates about what is going on with this Sprint iPhone 4S fiasco and the people at the store level truly do not know anything about when the shipments will come. Knowing that, please don't take it out on the in-store employees. I know, first-hand, how badly that sucks when you really don't know and people just think you're lying to them...
WITH THAT BEING SAID, Corporate BBY DOES know what's going on. This is what I've found out:
I started calling around to local Sprint stores asking if they had anymore phones in-stock. I told them that I had pre-ordered at BBY. All three local Sprint stores told me that BBY should have never been accepting pre-orders for Sprint iPhone 4S because, from the beginning, Sprint was not going to allow BBY to be part of the iPhone 4S launch event. A.K.A. Best Buy was never going to receive Sprint iPhone 4S models to begin with on launch day. This really ticked me off so I called the BBYM Corporate Number. I spoke to a rep and told her this story. She put me on hold and talked to her boss. Her boss told her that Best Buy will not be receiving Sprint iPhone 4S models until the end of October which perfectly explains why my Pre-order agreement estimates the delivery date of 10/31/2011. I chalked it up to a poorly designed pre-order system but now it looks like that was known all along. There it is. Confirmed with three local Sprint stores and the BBYM Corporate supervisor. Needless to say, I'm upset."
unQuote
And we all know ( because we have pretty much all been lied to by BB employees) That Best Buy employees will lie for any reason, even to get us out the door, as you say!

• Does anyone have any real answers to what specs the Best Buy version of the U43JC has?

I called Best Buy 1-800 number numerous times and everyone keeps giving me different answers. And being on the phone with them so often I figured out what they do, they go bing.com or google.com and do a search. They have no real facts other than what other websites are saying.
1) Processor: It says I5-450m, but the processor speed states "2.26Ghz" which is the speed of the I5-430m. So, I5-450m or I5-430m?
2) Built in Webcam says on Best Best as being 0.3mp....but every other website that is pre-selling this model says 2.0mp..So, 0.3mp or 2.0mp?
3) There is no mention of built in Bluetooth for the Best Buy model, but other sites selling the U43JC says built in Bluetooth. Does the best Buy model have built in Bluetooth?
4) There is no mention for the U43JC of having WIDI (Intel Wireless Display Technology) but all the other websites selling this model state it having WIDI. Does the U43JC that Best Buy is selling have WIDI?
5) I know Asus offers a 8 cell battery with 4400mah or 5600mah......All the other websites specifically state 8cell 5600mah. Which 8 cell battery does the one Best Buy is selling have?
6) All the other websites mention the U43JC having 2-2.0 USB and 1-3.0 USB, while Best Buy mentions 3-2.0 USB. Does the Best Buy version of the U43JC have 1-3.0 USB?
Lastly what is the difference between a Asus U43JC-BBA7 which is how Best Buy labels it V.S. the Asus U43JC-A1 which the other websites mention it as?

Only BBYs buyer will have such details on product. They don't answer phones.

It's called a "typo", and congratulations...you caught it. You get a cookie now. The unit has the 450M.

WOW...that's TWO typos! TWO cookies for you.
3) The BBY unit has no Bluetooth.
The unit is built to spec by BBY corporate buyers. Looks like you're more into the factory model.

• Why wont the Best Buy site won't load properly?

I'm trying to get into the Best Buy website, but the loading time slows to a crawl. I can kind of get through it by stopping and reloading each page I want to see, but this is getting annoying. Any ideas?

I have to hit "stop" (the red x) in the location bar, and then click "reload" (the circle with arrow) in the same spot to get Best Buy pages- and several other websites to load.

• Does The Best Buy Exclusive of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes come with a 2D version?

Does The Best Buy Exclusive of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes come with a 2D version? Because I'm really thinking about ordering it.

Hi there TheTimelordspy,
I've heard good things about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes but sadly haven't had a chance to see it yet! After a quick review, it would appear that the version you speak of (SKU 7713034) should include a regular 2D Blu-ray disc version as well. If you should have any questions, please let me know!

• Why are none of the Best Buys in my area carrying the Fatal1

I li've in Lonng Island NY. I have called every Best buy out here (got to be about 0 of them) and not one carries the Fatalty card. They all carry the 2 lower end ones though (ExtremeMusic + Platinum). And then to boot you can't order through Creatives own site due to the Exclusi've agreement with Best Buy I am assuming. So if Creative won't sell em cuz Best buy should be and Best Buy's out here are not carrying them how in the hell am I supposed to get one?

Exauilted, trust me, you don't need to spend another $80 for 64 megs of Ram. The platinum model has 00% of the functionality that the Fatalty card has and it sounds awesome. The 64 megs of ram won't make that card sound any better. It might give you one to two more frames per second on a game IF the game was actually written to take advantage of it (of which I seriously doubt any ever will that aren't funded by Creative). If you have a fast computer with a decent graphics card, go get yourself the Platinum card today.

• What would be the best buy?

Thinking of having a secondary computer, I love Mac and APPLE . Presently use desktop IMac
right now considering getting a Macbook pro as secondary computer
now i like to ask on the online Apple Store there are refurbs
there is a 2010 model MacBook pro. are reviews good on that model?
As well what are the major benefits to the newest models compared to older ones
as well what bout size of screen. i was considering going with the small screen or medium.
what are the benefits to all of those ?
Thanks

There is nothing wrong with purchasing a refurbished unit. I have two and cannot fault them. You also save money which you can use for upgrades or iPods.
There are 2010 MBPs available from the refurbished site and the advantage that they afford is that you can run Snow Leopard or Lion OS on them. One of my MBPs is a 17" 2010 antiglare running Snow Leopard and I am well satisfied with this unit.
The newer units (15'-17') have have Quad Core CPUs which are superior to the Dual Core CPUs found in the 2010 models. The Graphics are superior in the newer units and the HDDs are larger in capacity. I concur with ds store advice regarding the display option.
Ciao.

• Are there any ipod VIDEO accessories on the best buy wed site?

For the car.

The IPOD was designed and is sold to support video content available through the Apple Store. Apple never said they would support every video converting program made by anyone trying to make a buck or freeware that confuses 98 percent of its users. Getting videos on the IPOD is not hard. For a 40 dollar investment, you won't even need to search on any web site for your answer. And flash the company even has a trial to download and flash they have been in business for over 5 years and have made convertors to support over 265 different devices and lastly they have an actual support site manned by folks that designed the programs. I do understand your frustration, but when you look in the wrong places for so long you will get frustrated. The product is great! And does what it was advertised to do!

• Best Buy Extended Warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on

My daughter bought me an iPad 3, when it first came out, for Mother's Day. She was talked into buying the Best Buy Warranty instead of the Apple warranty. For the past 3 months I've been having nothing but trouble with my iPad so my daughter said I needed to hurry to Best Buy before the expensive extended warranty runs out.
I went to the Best Buy on 62nd and Broadway (NYC) and, after waiting and hitting the counter a couple of times, was able to speak to a tech. I use the title tech loosely here.
He first said that my problems were a result of the new software update, then it was too many apps, next it was "Hey, after two year the battery is going to be slow". So, essentially, it will lock up, freeze, shut itself off, need to be charged twice as much as it used to and be unresponsive to my finger tough (as well as my stylus). He himself saw the issue as he would have to swipe a number of times to clear the screens - so he ran the "Geek Squad Triage App". According to my app, the ipad is fine.
So now, after an hour of watching him just move screens and open apps, and putting my entire iPad back to factory default, I was told "Oh well, we can't do anything at all unless we see the issue happen in front of us." "You have to recreate the problem and then we will take it and send it away for repairs."
This was NOT what my daughter was told would happen - she was assured that if there were a problem, and they could not fix it there, they would take the iPad and replace it with a refurbished iPad - which APPLE would have done. They need to do some honest advertising - you will have to bring the iPad to us, we'll stare blankly at it for awhile, we'll reset it, we'll open and close apps and then send you home saying good luck.
I am beyond furious and intend to file complaints with the store, the Geek Squad Co., the BBB and, just to be certain that people are not taken advantage of again - as my daughter was - at every location I can find that asks which Warranty to choose, or allows me to review this warranty.
Shame on you Best Buy and Shame on you Geek Squad - you've taken advantage of a young person, not to mention a wounded veteran, to make a couple of dollars more off of her. She is absolutely heartsick that this happened - and I could not be more angry if I tried.
Up until now I've always went to Best Buy for all of my electronics, my TV, my Computer, my Laptops - but after this I cannot justify going there again.
Stay away from any Extended Warranties or Geek Squad members at Best Buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Ftrainryder,
I’m sure if I had received such a nice gift, like an iPad with Geek Squad Protection (GSP), I would also be angered after being turned away when trying to receive service. Please pass my apologies onto your daughter if she feels that she was misled when purchasing the GSP for your iPad.
The information she was given about the protection plan is correct. This being said, the Geek Squad agent should have sent your iPad out for service if he was experiencing the same issues as you had described. I am so very sorry that you didn’t receive that option.
The agents are supposed to do what they can to replicate the problem our customers are experiencing with their products before sending anything out. It sounds as though he spent a healthy amount of time troubleshooting with you and testing your device. The Geek Squad app is a good tool that both employees and customers can use to test the widespread functions of our mobile devices. The issues that he spoke of can happen; however, they generally aren’t issues you will always experience after owning a device for an extended period of time.
I would like reach out to the store leadership at the Upper West Side (Store 1448) about your recent visit. As such, I’ll be sending you a private message to get some more details from your interaction with the agent. • Best Buy baited me and switched up on the ASUS G74SX-BBK9 vs. the BBK11 - not cool!

My question to Best Buy is - Have things gotten so bad in your business that you have to resort to what amounts to bait and switch tactics to get people into your stores?
I am a long time customer and Rewards Zone member. Between my family and my extended family I would say I have an impact on 7 to 10K in Best Buy business annually (conservative estimate really) as the family tech guru. Unfortunately more often than not I find BEST Buy, really isn't in the long run and I find that sad. Let me give you an example:
I have been following the ASUS G73 and now G74 laptops for the past couple years. I have been interested in getting one because I am a middle aged performance computer nut and will not settle for sub-standard performance even in my portable computer. The ASUS G74SX-BBK9 caught my eye and I went down to the local Best Buy with cash in my pocket to pick one up. When I arrived I learned that the BBK9 is nearly impossible to find but I am in luck, it has been replaced by the BBK11 and it is in stock!. Upon closer inspection I learn that the "new" BBK11 is really the same computer as the BBK9 with a low performance hard drive AND A HIGHER PRICE!!! Please allow me a moment to inform you that when it comes to IT hardware it does not INCREASE in value as the model ages, it actually LOSES value. And it is crystal clear to me that Best Buy thinks:
1. They can pull the ole switcheroo and no one will notice.
2. The customer is stupid and has more money than brains.
3. Specs are meaningless in high performance computer hardware.
4 or all of the above!
But what really got to me was the attitude of the staff. I asked if they could help me locate a BBK9 and I would buy it that second. After a couple minutes of a passive search they said it was impossible to find. Strangely enough it is on the Best Buy site - granted it is now listed as an Outlet item, but it clearly is available somewhere.
It does not make any sense to pay more for less and that makes me sick really. But I will be traveling for 10 days and don't have time to do an online order so I offered to buy a BBK11 but at a slightly better price than the $1249 it was listed at. Being completely fair - I would pay $1249 for a BBK9 in a microsecond if I could find one!!! But alas it has been marked down $70 and is only available in stores if you win the lottery and can find one. I am guessing it is right next the the unicorns and pot of gold at the base of a rainbow in the software section!! Are you starting to understand why this feels like a bait and switch?? The website says it exists, but good luck finding one - just feels like a foot traffic in the store come-on to me.
After a few minutes the lady I spoke with came back from a visit with a supervisor and said, "the price that is on it now, is the price it sells for and there is nothing we can do, and we have nothing else to talk about." I agreed that she was right about one thing - we have nothing else to talk about and I left feeling like an idiot for even walking into the store in the first place. A word of advice from a customer service manger - making your customers feel like idiots is not the way to build a business that will last. It is the way to alienate your customers and ruin your brand reputation in the long run.
Good luck and I hope you survive - but I think you are way off track........

So you are expecting for BBY to stock a discontinued model?
I agree that Asus dropped the ball. They did make an inferior "new" product. But that's not BBYs fault. There are probably a few BBK9s out there, hence why it's still on the website but online stock checks aren't 100% reliable.
If I was BBY I wouldn't have budged on the price either. They are just a middle man and because you want to buy it for less just means they will see even less profit on a razor thin margin to begin with.
This is far from bait and switch as it wasn't advertised, Wasn't put on an unbelievable sale, nor did they upsell you to another product. You researched what you wanted, thought you found it at BBY and when they didn't have an outdated model in stock then the next model was suggested I assume.

• Best Buy Promised to Hook Up My TV And Haul Away The Old TV. It Then Refused to Do Any of That.

I bought a Samsung 51" Plasma
PN51F5300AFXZA
Here's the Best Buy.com page for it: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-51-class-50-3-4-diag--plasma-1080p-hdtv-black/8239047.p?id=12188...
Scroll down to "See (4) Special Offers" and then click "Free Delivery, Haul Away & Recycling"
Here's what it reads, of which I got none:
Free Delivery on TV Purchases 51" or Larger
Best Buy will provide Standard Local Delivery of your TV. Charges apply for delivery outside local delivery area. TV will be delivered into the room of your choice and unpacked. Best Buy will assemble your TV, place it on an existing TV stand, and connect your TV to a single, existing source (satellite box, cable box or antenna) within the room. Delivery and installation may require two appointments.
Excludes prior purchases and Best Buy Marketplace items. Not valid with other offers. Subject to availability of products and delivery capacity.
Television Haul Away and Recycling
We will haul away a television from your home for free when a qualifying replacement product is delivered by Geek Squad® or Best Buy Home Delivery. Then we will make sure it is properly and safely recycled. Additional TVs can be removed and recycled at a cost of $20 per unit.
The units are responsibly recycled by our licensed, third-party recycling partners. The recyclers ensure that the various commodities are sent to end markets to be recycled and repurposed into new products. For more information, see BestBuy.com/recycling.
>> To once again reiterate, they did not unbox my TV. They did assemble my TV. They did not hook it up.
And they did not haul away the old TV.
And now I can't find anyone at the Best Buy hotline to even understand what I'm trying to say.
HELP!

Good afternoon FranklinAvenue,
After receiving your TV, I'm sure you were disappointed to find services normally included were not completed. I imagine this certainly lowered your satisfaction with your TV ordering and delivery experience.
With most deliveries, you are correct that basic setup and haul away of the old unit are typically included. With the information you registered with the forum, I was able to locate your order and review your services. Unfortunately, it seems that haul away was not included on the service order. This may have been due to it not being selected when placing the order, or a system error. However, the basic setup should have been completed. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
I also see that you were able to have setup and haul away completed on 1/5/15. I'm glad to see that we were able to return to complete these desired services. I hope that this experience has not negatively influenced your future shopping destination.
Sincerely,

• Recommendations for the best i7 L3 8GB Laptop to buy?

Can someone tell me what the best Laptop to buy with the following specifications:
i7 L3 8GB (or more)
I need something that will last for five years, and run Dragon.
Thanks!

Thank you for your quick reply. The "Knowbrainer website" has the following laptop recommendation for the best performance of the Dragon Naturally Speaking program. I looked through the Best Buy options--there are quite a few that offer what is recommended below. So which of the Best Buy options (that meet the specs below) should I buy? The specs, according to "Knowbrainer" are:
1. Core™ i7 Ivy Bridge with four cores and hyperthreading (eight threads). In other words, go with the highest Core™ i7 Ivy Bridge you can find as far as speed, number of cores, L3 cache, etc.
2. Look for at least 8 GB of RAM and preferably 16 GB of RAM. The reason for this is that there are going to be a lot of changes to the size and number of 64-bit applications over the next few years. 8 GB might do you just fine right now, but if you're going to go for five years with this laptop, then you're better off going with 16 GB of RAM looking down the road.
it's the processor, the amount of L3 cache and the RAM that form the core.
The bottom line: take into consideration that the computer needs to run both Windows 8 and DNS 12, and looking down the road to possibly DNS 13. Also, keep in mind that it's a given that whatever you're going to purchase now is going to be out of date inside of nine months. You just can't win at the rate that technology is advancing. Also, sometime next year Intel is going to introduce a whole new set of processors for both desktops and laptops that will raise the bar on performance. It's the game we play with hardware and Dragon.
Thanks!

Hello CLD2ooth,
There is a lot of excitement around finally being able to play Halo on your Xbox One with The Master Chief Collection and we’ve certainly been paying attention to customer feedback regarding our “Get $10” Promotion.
After taking what you and other customers have posted back to our My Best Buy and Gaming teams, we have decided to add Halo: The Master Chief Collection to the program! That means that My Best Buy members can now get $10 in reward certificates for pre-ordering and purchasing the game! You won’t see this reflected on all of the relevant pages on BestBuy.com until closer to the end of August, but I have confirmed it with the teams and wanted to give our Best Buy Community a heads up.
Thanks for posting your suggestion and please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I recently was approved for a best buy credit card and when I applied they did not attach my old my best buy account number so it automatically issued a new one. I know my membership number and when i click on the link that allows me to link a different my best buy membership, it says the member id does not exist. I try looking it up using the information on my best buy and it also says it cannot find it. I should have points on my old account, but I cannot access the account to find out if I have enough for a certificate yet. Help!

Greetings kjacks58, and welcome to the Best Buy forum,
Before you try linking your accounts (BestBuy.com and My Best Buy™), I would suggest we look into merging your two My Best Buy™ accounts. The new account that is associated with your Best Buy credit card would be made the primary account, and any active points/certificates in the secondary account would transfer over to the primary following the merge.
With that being said, I will need some additional information from you before I can look into performing a merge. Please send me a private message with the information below and I will see what I can do to help. You can send a private message by clicking on the blue button in my signature that is labeled "Private Message."

• New styles from the TUMI Alpha Bravo Collection: now available at Best Buy

If you’ve been reading the Best Buy Plug-In Blog for a while now, you’ll probably be familiar with TUMI. They do a lot of stylish, well-made, super functional luggage pieces … but this fall, they’re coming out with a collection that’ll change the way you look at TUMI for good.

I was able to place an order for the new 3DS XL MM Edition via bestbuy.com. My order shows processing so all seems well. My question is in regards to when this will ship? I usually use amazon.com for online preorders as they are shipped so that they arrive on release day. Is this the same with bestbuy.com? If not, would it be possible to switch to in-store pickup so that I can get the item on release day? Thanks.
