The timeline on my Mac zooms when I add a clip to it.

The Expert view timeline sometimes zooms in if you drag a clip from Finder or the Project Assets panel to the Expert view timeline. The Expert view timeline can also zoom in if you drag the clip handles to trim a clip.
This behavior is most obvious when working with Adobe Premiere Elements on MacBook Pro with retina display.
Adobe has posted the following fix.

To expand a little on John's questions and link, every clip and every sequence has its own frame dimensions (and pixel aspect ratio & frame rate). By default, Premiere preserves the dimensions (or "resolution") of a clip when you add it to a sequence. That means that if a clip's resolution is greater than that of the sequence, it will appear to be zoomed in on the frame. Conversely, if the clip is lower res than the sequence, it will appear shrunk, with black borders.
If all of your content is the same resolution (which is the ideal case), then you should use a sequence that matches. The easiest way to do so is the "New Item" method that John refers to--dragging a clip to the Project Panel's New Item button--or, in later releases of PPro CC, dragging it into an empty Timeline panel. If you're working with content of mixed resolution, then you have to pick your poison and scale smaller clips up or larger clips down. The latter option is generally preferred because the former--scaling clips up--often results in unacceptable pixelation.

For now I just want to put you through the drill that I do for anyone who says he/she is using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
1. Are you working from the 8.0/8.0.1 Update of the program?

2. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalyzer features turned OFF.
For Background Rendering option. See Edit Menu/Preferences/General.
For AutoAnalyzer option. Click on Organizer in the row below the blue active Organize header in order to open the Elements Organizer. In the Elements Organizer workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options and disable all the AutoAnalzyer options. To return to the Premiere Elements workspace from the Elements Organizer workspace, in the Elements Organizer workspace, go to File Menu/Exit.
Is your computer optimized in spite of the fact that you have a high end laptop? I presumed so but always go to verify, no pile ups of preview files, conformed video and audio files et al.
Looking at the properties of your source media, I see:
video compression = MPEG1
audio compression = MPEG-Layer1 (.mp2)
Frame Size = 640 x 480 (4:3)
Pixel Aspect Ratio = 1.0
Frame Rate = 30 progressive frames per second
With properties like those you are sure to get a red line over that content since there is no project preset with that description.
But, your choice of the default NTSC DV Standard would have been mine also.
I am heading to try to get a quick look at the behavior of the sample video here in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.

Joanne please remove your current installation of Photoshop Lightroom using the uninstallers located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers.
You will then want to download Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1 from Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh. The update contains the entire application. Photoshop Lightroom can not be installed through the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application and still be licensed with a serial number.

Did you purchase this product direct from Apple online, in an Apple Store, or through a third-party authorized reseller? Or did you buy it from an original owner whose Applecare plan was supposed to be transitioned to a new owner, by them?
Do you have an original shipping carton the unit arrived in?
If the product was a retail 'open carton' purchase and no
back-track is possible, contact the reseller.
And if the computer had seen a major service with logic
board replaced, etc, it may have other issues with serial
number vs one they may have assigned it. Usually a
new logic board may have the SN flashed or if a unit
was determined to be a reman, a new # assigned. But
that would appear in System Profiler, if officially reman.
If you registered a product anywhere with Apple, it would show on a web page along with its serial numbers, going back several years, at this page after you log in there.

As Tom states, that's interlacing.
Interlacing was invented when the TV was born, to carry 1/5 the frame with each Hz of the electricity rating. In the US, that's why you use 30 fps (or 29.nnn) in the US and we use 25 fps in europe as the electricity is 60Hz/50Hz.
Interlaced video should ONLY (I repeat ONLY) be used for analog TV signal transports.
Each and every digital TV set today, including all the computer screens, is Progressive, updating the full frame at each screen refresh. And most TV's even refresh much quicker, newest TV's refresh a 800Hz..! (giving then problems with the newest LTE spectums..)
If your source media in interlaced, ask why! And stop shooting interlaced.. ;-)
If you have interlaced video, make sure you apply the DeInterlace setting when you import and transcode it.

When I perform a split audio edit, the timeline doesn't show it when the clips are collapsed!

Especially the clip whose audio is 'covering' another... the timeline doesn't show it's audio as extending, and it would appear only that the clip for which audio has been shortened, is still there, or at "0"... what gives? If you uncollapse the audio, or detach it, you do, once again, see the split audio.

The two HD clips were purchased from itunes (MPEG - 4) and converted to .mov for use in Final Cut Pro. Project properties - 720p HD 1280x720 (60p)

When i add a clip to my project it gets blurry

I'm using iMovie to make a "movie" of home videos for my mom for Mother's Day. Whenever I add a clip to my project, it turns out blurry and zoomed in on the project (but not in the library below). This happens when the project is set to widescreen or standard.
Any idea why this is happening? Could this be from the "stabilization" process?

The video camera is a digital and new-ish (2008) Sony Handycam. I made a movie on iMovie with video from the same camera last year, and I don't recall having this problem them.

It could possibly be stabilization. You can easily check by selecting the clip in the project. Then open the Clip Inspector and turn off the stabilization.

Keeps crashing when I add two clips

I add one clip and the app was fine. Then I added music and it was still fine. But when I added a second video the app would crash. I tried closing it and reopening the app but it would crash as soon as it started up. I closed all my apps and reboted my phone. Same results. Can anyone help? This issue is really annoying.

I'm not sure if you have seen the basic recommendations for PRE:
Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.8 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
Run Disk Cleanup.
Run Defragmenter.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
Use the GSpot Codec Information Utility to analyse the file and post screen image.

I recently was given someone elses ipod touch. There are some songs on there I want to keep and many I want to delete. Is there a way to upload the songs to my mac so I can add them to a play list I have and delete the one's I don't want?

Is there anyway to either upload songs to itunes in my mac or sync a playlist with the ipod without erasing all the music currently on the ipod. Also, is there a way to delete specific tunes on the ipod?

There is no legal way to do this- You would need to be using the same AppleID (account)
As far as deleting the songs, in a situation like this, you should restore the iPod which will delete the songs as well as allow you to sync your own music.

A few weeks ago I downloaded some free software from the "tucows.com" website, it appears to have permanently hijacked my web browsers (both firefox and IE) so all searches go to their "searchqu" site, and new tabs open at that site. I was unable to repair this with the addins you suggested or by editing my user preferences files, and ended up having to reinstall firefox. Hopefully I won't run into the tucows rootkit ;)
