The Truth on Verizons early upgrade

Like most people waiting months to get  a Droid Bionic, I had one in my hands at a Verizon kiosk at Costco A couple hours ago.  Paid for but not processed.  During processing, their computer showed I was not eligible.  I've been on the unlimited data plan for 22 months and I might add that the My verizon moble app states I am eligible for an upgrade.
Upon calling Verizon, their representative told me that "EARLY upgrades were only available at Verizon Stores and she would be happy to send me one or I could go to a Verizon Store.  Of course, she would not give me an equivalent Costco deal.  (280$ for the phone and 160$ of free accessories)  Their strategy is obvious, however,  a few dollars they would make on the phone are definitely off set by the 115.00 I pay them every month.  (2760.00$ over 2 years)  Does everyone realize that when you trade in your phone to them for a gift card. You are stuck with a data plan and no phone if your new phone is returned for any reason?    Your call Verizon!!

Each company has their own promotions and programs. Since you do not qualify to upgrade under normal conditions you can only upgrade at Verizon. You act like this is some sort of scam or trick by Verizon. When in reality it is a special program they offer valued customers who want to get into a newer phone sooner than their 2 year agreement...
Resellers ,like the grocery store you want to buy your phone at, are limited in what they can do. And really that is a good thing, if you look at how many mistakes stem from these 3rd party sellers to begin with already..
You pay for service, not phone every month. Service costs most to maintain
I don't even know what you trying to say about the trade in program..

  • O2 not doing early upgrade for 3GS like they did the 3G

Bit of a shame. Not surprised given the prices. Very expensive

Given the mediocre mega pixel hike (well scrape might be more accurate) and of course your compass! very handy these days :o) is the price worth an early upgrade?
I'll see out my 3G contract and then look at the competition. There are other offerings out there that do more than iPhone as far as feature set goes (ok they don't have the app store, but get an iPod Touch and use that instead of the iPhone and get a more feature rich mobile with say an 8 or 10 mega pixel camera and Bang and Olufsen sound for example - think Samsung Beat).
Might be cheaper to think about the 3G S Pay As You Go option and using that handset on your existing contract. Then you will qualify for a very nice reward this time next year as you will be out of contract

  • How to use 13-20 month early upgrade

So I hear everyone talking about how Verizon is ending the 13-20 month early upgrade and that now you will only be able to ugprade after 20 months, but I didn't even know you were ever able to upgrade after 13 months. On My Verizon, it says I am eligable for an upgrade on March 5 (20 months), but if I had known I was eligible for an upgrade 6 months ago I would have done it. Is there any way I can use this for the iPhone 4, and if so, how?
Edit - also, everyone is saying the NE2 program is ending, but you will still be able to upgrade after 20 months. I thought upgrading after 20 months was the NE2 program... what else was there that is being taken away?

The early upgrade applies to individuals on a base calling plan of 49.99 or greater and the PRIMARY line on any family plan (secondary lines aren't eligible) assuming your signed up on My Verizon and allows you to get a new phone every 12 months at the 2yr contract price.   As for NE2, they're getting rid of the added discounts(currently $30 or $50 depending on how much your plan is, decreased from $50 and $100 a few years ago) on individual and primary line on family plans.   The change on 1/16 will get rid of those benefits for new customers and allow 1 last annual upgrade or NE2 discount if you upgraded prior to that date.  So you could technically upgrade now (prior to the 16th) and still have an annual upgrade or NE2 discount a year or two down the road. Beyond that, everyone will still be able to upgrade at months $20 for the 2 yr contract price.

  • I took advantage of the early upgrade to the 5c on 8/18 I believe over the phone. Not sure what I did Right but dont have issues.... Why?

I have been reading many FAQS recent ly about this same promotion regarding the upgrade to the iphone 5c 32g and it appears so many of you have been having countless issues with it.... I feel horrible for everyone who has been dealing with this headache. Makes me wonder what i did right because i have had no problems at all, Simply called Verizon over the phone and the rep was super nice and patience and very helpful. All i had to do was call in the next day in the very early AM so they could stop the wrong phone i origanlly ordered before it wasshipped( which was thru The Edge Program) and they stopped it in time luckily before it was shipped and than the same rep canceled out the Edge option and redid everything under the new early upgrade option instead for the 5c 32 gig blue and i got it two days later with no cost whatsoever other than activation fee of 30 bucks billed to next billing cycle. Got phone and all is good from the looks. Honestly no idea what i did that worked for me but it worked. Maybe i just caught the promotion before it was immeaditatly taken off website.

    Hi there,
I've just joined google for my email and like you wanted to sync my contacts and calendar.
I had a couple of problems but have ironed them out below.
First....Google have a 'google sync' program that is advertised as syncing both your contacts and calendar. This has not worked for me. I can sync my calendar no problem at all, but it hasn't worked for my contacts. On looking across the google firums I am by no means alone and indeed google employees who post there have acknowledged the problem too,
So how to get round it and sync your calendar and contacts?
For calendar go to this link
    http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=nokia_smart
Follow the instructions and tell the Mail for Exchange program NOT to sync your contacts.  Like I said, although it's supposed to I couldn't get it to work despite a reformat of the device twice! A google employee on the forums even went out and bought the 5800 and tried to get it to work as he has noted that people are having problems. Hopefully it'll be addressed in the future.
For syncing your contacts, go to this page
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=98230&topic=15015
All the details for contacts sync are laid out for the pages of setup you have for a S60 3rd edition device. If, like me you have a S60 5th edition device, the details are all there but are requested in a different order. Have a good scan of the pages and you WILL find all the info you need.
Both methods work great for me and I'm delighted.
    Hope this maybe helps
If my post has helped you in anyway, please press the 'kudos' button.
    Thanks

  • Early upgrade finger pointing: Apple and Verizon

I think I understand the Apple side if they don't want people buying their product at a discount, then upgrading to the next product at a discount.  Our issue is that we have a contract with Verizon for a feature phone, we need a smart phone due to a new job, and we're a month away from the updgrade date (I know, just wait, but we've been dealing with the work situation since last February).  This would be our first iphone, and we want the 4s not the 5. Verizon says they'll upgrade to any other smart phone, just not the iphone...This is frustrating - Apple staff blames Verizon, Verizon blames Apple.  Anyone been successful in an early upgrade to an Apple product with Verizon?  thanks.

same here about to get lawyer involved, got on family manage i have sons phone off during certain hours, also on our wife, look at his usage next day and its in middle of night and my own phone has data usage too when i know i was not using. was told smart phones do this and turn off data when on wifi, when i do that i dont get text or other messages needed, what is verizon going to do to fix this. it was never disclosed when got the 5c or any smart phone that had to turn off data on wifi, i though it did automatically, has anyone got help on this is veizon fixing ...if not guess cost me more with lawyer to get out of contract but if going to be charged every month for data we never used then be worth it for verizon to fix this.

  • Verizon refuses to allow early upgrade

I am a long-time verizon customer, with an iPhone 5.
    My contract ends 3/2015.
I asked verizon about upgrading early to the 6 Plus, for a fee, and they absolutely refused.
I even called the executive offices, and they also refused, saying they "can't" becuase they have a contract with apple.
I spent a lot of time trying to make this happen, but verizon couldn't care less.
So, I will go back to Sprint, or possibly try AT&T.
Has anyone else been in this situation?
    Thanks.
    Mac

Of course that is the FULL cost of the phone. Verizon will give a discount on a phone IF you are not currently under contract with them. If you signed a 2 yr service contract with Verizon in exchange for a discount on a phone why should Verizon give you ANOTHER discount if you are unwilling to fulfill the terms of the contract.
It seems what you want is for Verizon to give you a DISCOUNT on the full retail price of the phone. Unfortunately, they WILL NOT do that until you fulfill your current contract where you PROMISED to a fulfill a 2 yr service contract before AGAIN becoming eligible for a discount.
Of course, you can go to another carrier to get a subsidized phone. Hopefully you will be happy with the new provider.
While the full retail cost of a new iPhone 6+ MAY be "ludicrous", that is a matter you should bring up with Apple, NOT Verizon. Apple overprices their products because they can get people to pay those prices. Because Verizon has to follow Apple's policies if they want to have the iPhone on their network is not something Verizon has any control over other than simply not carrying the iPhone which would make countless more people unhappy than you.
Keep in mind, if you get a subsidized phone from another carrier, they will ALSO not give you another subsidy UNTIL you fulfill the contract you sign to get that subsidy, especially with an iPhone.
Another thing which is "ludicrous" is people who feel entitled to subsidies on phones without wanting to fulfill the contract they sign to get those subsidies.

  • Stories about early upgrades for the Droid Bionic.

    Hello,
I have been searching for stories about the Bionic for a while, and I have seen a couple pop up that say Verizon is offering early upgrades to *SOME* customers.
    http://www.gizmocrunch.com/mobile/8185--verizon-iphone-5-htc-vigor-nexus-prime-motorola-droid-bionic
I have been a customer of Verizon for a little less than two years. I am still using the OG Droid, and it is starting to bogg down quite a bit and freeze/crash randomly, so getting a new phone is one of the top things on my list.  My upgrade discount is up on 10/25/11, but seeing that the Droid Bionic is going to come out Sept 8th (little more than a week), and seeing that Verizon is offering early upgrades to certain people, I was wondering who exactly GETS these early discounts. Reading the articles apparantly Verizon sent emails out to some people, but I haven't gotten anything about it.
So are these articles correct? If so, who exactly CAN get the discount? And will I be able to get the phone when it comes out?

This promotion, although recently released, doesn't necessarily pertain to the Droid Bionic alone. Verizon sent out thousands of e-mails to customers that have never owned a smart phone before and fit various other criteria. The promotion allows you to upgrade from a basic phone to a smart phone early if you wish to do so. The promotion also entitles the customer to a $100 rebate in the form of a Visa gift card if they mail in their old basic phone as well. Hope this helps.

  • Can i use my iphone 4 warrenty to get a early upgrade to the iphone 5c

I need to know because my iphone 4 is slowing down, the battery dies fast than usual even if im not using it and also my iphone freezes out of no where texts random messages without me writing or sending them. So can someone please help me thank you

No. Apple warranties do not help you get early upgrades on devices. If you think something is wrong with your device then take it to the nearest Genius Bar.

  • When I tried to download the new version of firefox I get an error message that says "you computer must be restarted to complete an earlier upgrade" when I restart it says the same thing. I cannot use firefox at all at the moment.

When I tried to download the new version of firefox I get an error message that says "your computer must be restarted to complete an earlier upgrade" when I restart it says the same thing. I cannot use firefox at all at the moment. When I try to uninstall in the control panel, the same message pops up.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Disappointed about the "early upgrade" and "free" LTE phone promo...

I must say I'm rather disappointed with Verizon as of late.  First, I was told that adding my wife to my plan wouldn't interfere with any of our services and then was charged $500 in text message fees when I found the store had not put my unlimited texting back where it was supposed to be.  Then, I was given the $15 unlimited data promotion for a year which was also taken off after adding the wife to my plan.  Neither of these caveats were explained to me by anybody when these "promotions" were given.  I guess it comes as no surprise, then, that this one was a load of garbage too.
I have talked to several customer service representatives and Lord I must say there are dozens of curse words I would like to use right now.  I logged in to MyVerizon the other night after checking up on data usage since I have unlimited data but the wife is capped at 2GB.  I see a promotion in the bottom window "Recommended for You" that says I can get a free upgrade to a 4G LTE phone at no cost to me.  Obviously, I'm going to click on the link as I hadn't really thought of upgrading to 4G's higher end phones until the prices came down a little more.  Instead of being given the option to choose from my phones, it adds the Nexus to my cart and says I have to pay full upgrade price.  I go back to the other phones, and now they all say full upgrade price.  I go back to the home page, and now the "Free 4G phone" offer isn't even showing up.
Now, if you're still following this, I immediately called customer service and the first person I spoke to seemed more interested in getting off of the line with me as they advised me to wait for the promotion to pop back up and I will get it for sure.
I called back a couple of days later when I didn't see it and spoke to a nice young lady who then told me that she wasn't sure why it had done that to me but that I was eligible for the 4G discount - $100 off of any LTE phone and that I misunderstood "Free LTE phone".
Look.  I know the difference between "$100 off" and "Free".  One costs money, the other doesn't.  One gives me a discount on the phone I would have upgraded to later this year, and the other gives it to me for free.  Why would I upgrade now to save money on a phone that I will buy discounted in the future?
I told her that was not what I was offered and that I want what I had been offered.  She went to speak to a supervisor, and then came back and told me that the free LTE deal was a south-only promo.  Fair enough, but then why was I offered the deal and then all efforts were made to prevent me from going back to take advantage of it?  When I mentioned this, she said that her supervisor had said that they could give me the free phone if I agreed to drop my unlimited data to 5GB/monthly as that is what the southern promotion was.
I did some research and spoke to a friend who lives in the south and their promo was a free phone with unlimited data grandfathered in.  So what the heck gives with this misinformation?  I felt as if they knew I wouldn't give up unlimited data and were just trying to get me off of the phone.
Finally, I spoke with a gentleman tonight who seemed helpful until we arrived at the same point.  Except he told me that the previous customer service reps had misinformed me again and that the southern promotion was indeed grandfathered unlimited data.  I told him "Great, sign me up then".  Then the disappointment set in.  He said that it couldn't be done at all. He said I should have taken the offer last night and then had my unlimited data reinstated (as there is a 14-day policy for such a thing apparently).  So I asked why it was offered to me before with the intention of getting me to give up my unlimited data but now it wasn't being offered to me at all.  I was told "I don't know, I'm sorry".  Well, that doesn't fix the problem, does it?  He tried everything he could to sell me the lesser phones (that I already mentioned were a step down from my current phone - the Fascinate) and then basically ended the call saying nothing more could be done.
This is absolutely ridiculous to be treated this way.  I have paid my bill on time, and I know that Verizon is the most expensive carrier out there.  I have cheaper options, but I chose Verizon because the service is incomparable.  Why am I being told lie after lie after lie about what can and can't be done and being offered promos that I can't even get?  This wouldn't have even been an issue if I had just been given the original promotion I was offered without losing my unlimited data and I feel like your associate simply enjoy dangling carrots in front of peoples' faces.
I use quite a bit of data and I enjoy my service but my patience is beginning to wear very thin between incompetent store associates and lying customer service representatives.  With my upgrade coming up soon and my contract ending soon after I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right choice in leaving AT&T at all.
Utter nonsense.  I feel cheated and worst of all I feel as if I was baited into a promotion I will now never get despite the fact that it was promised to me one night and then forbidden the next.

And to make it even worse, each person told me to just "check back later" and "maybe the phone I wanted" would be discounted.
If it was "maybe" discounted, why not just save the trouble, the customer, and the time, and just give me what you offered me?
    So annoyed right now....

  • My upgrade is due on the 30th of September does anyone know if I can get an early upgrade

My upgrade is due on the 30th of September can anyone tell me if I can get an early upgrade as was going to buy a new phone but wanna see if I can get early upgrade
    Thanks
    David Driscoll

Sometimes two months before you are due an upgrade they let you pay 2 months of your bill up front to get the upgrade i would wait

  • Early Upgrade Options: Here were the choices I was given --

Ok, as some of you may have read: my wifes line is on a month to month contract, but not eligible for upgrade. After talking to a customer service rep. I can upgrade her line at discount, not a problem.
I inquired about my line, that is not eligible until 10/14/2012 -- they said they would be able to upgrade my line at discount with any 4G device EXCEPT for the Galaxy S III or the Iphone 5.
If you want an early upgrade, it looks like its possible -- as long as you don't want a GSIII or IP5.

Your post does not make any sense (At least to me)
You are not eligible for an upgrade for 25 MONTHS and you can upgrade?

  • I have an early 2008 macbook and want to upgrade the os. Can I upgrade to snow lepard?

I have an early 2008 macbook and want to upgrade the os. Can I upgrade to snow lepard?

Last night I posted: I have an early 2008 macbook and want to upgrade the os. Can I upgrade to snow leopard?
Today I started the install using a OSX 10.6.4 install dvd.  It would not install on my Macbook. The general requirements were met, the Macbook booted to the dvd but I received the meesage that I could not install the new OS. So, new question: Any advice on where to get the last release of 10.5 Leopard (> 10.5.2)? Also, does anyone know why Snow Leopard won't work? Is Leopard as far as I can go on this machine?

  • What would be the cost of upgrading before my early upgrade?

I am on Tmobile at the moment and having problems with my phone so want to upgrade earlier than my early upgrade, what would be the cost of this?

Approx. Monthly Fee x Months Remaining of contract term - VAT (16.7%). VAT is not due on termination fees.

  • If the customers treated Verizon like Verizon treats its customers

Im having a hard time finding words that wont get my post deleted. The past few times ive had any dealings with Verizon should be the traing for how not to provide customer service. On the phone or in the store it doesnt matter its been a bad joke. I cant throw everyone under the bus because there has been 2 people who at least put forth effort but still the clowns who have angered me to the point of making a complaint on public forum snuff out any positive effort made by these people. Id like a response from someone from Verizon about these events. It doesnt have to be what I want to hear but I do expect more than "this is what you signed up for when you signed the contract" or "we have you by the balls so you had better just accept it" hoopla that I expect and have received both on the phone and in the store
First complaint: About a month ago I made a call to customer service to see about lowering my bill. My bill is over $300 a month and I see advertisements for plans at $160 a month with 4 more gigs of data than what I get currently. The guy I spoke with did in fact lower my bill significantly.  Somewhere around $80 a month. What he didn't disclose was he extended every contract for one year. I found this out when I received an email saying features to one of my step daughters phones had been changed. At the time I received the email she was on vacation in South America with her father so I called customer service to make sure no funny business was happening with my account. When informed what the changes were I was infuriated and demanded my contracts be restored to their previous end dates as I had not authorized them to be extended even if it meant my bill would return to its previous amount. I cant remember the ladies name but she was the first of the two brightspots I mentioned earlier. My end dates were restored to their previous times and I believe that my bill is still lower than its previous amount but not the $80 monthly. I later went in store to speak face to face about the $160 a month plan where the guy said I couldnt because only 3 of my lines qualified for the Verizon edge plan and even if if I could get the plan my bill would be higher because we would all have to get new phones and make the monthly payments on them in addition to the $160 price for the plan. Whether this is how the plan works or not at least it was an explanation.
    Complaint #2:
Yesterday my phone died. Just died. Not broken, dropped or any of the usual suspects just died. It wont take a charge from the wall or car charger or turn on or anything. I had insurance on the phone (that I paid through my bank account and not my bill) but stopped ( by cancelling that debit card) a few months ago because I couldn't find a phone number to reach them to cancel payments I was making on phones I didnt have anymore. In the next 30 days I have 3 lines available either for upgrade or termination of the contract so I call customer service to what could be done. Good thing I had my contracts reverted to their original end dates huh? So anyway the customer service person says I should speak to sales and forwards me to them. So after getting the person in sales and explaining the situation he asks which number and I tell him. He says well that number isnt eligible for upgrade for another year. My response is yes I know but I have 3 other lines that will be in the next 30 days. His response was id have to speak to customer service.  Customer service was who said I needed to speak to sales. I told the guy to just forget it and I would call back. So today I call customer service back. I explain the situation again the lady says there is not much she could do because her manager probably would not approve an early upgrade. Having had a day to think about the situation I tell the lady if I cant get another phone then at the very least I had better get a credit to my bill because I will not be receiving the services they are charging me for. Which she did end up doing because her manager wouldnt approve an early upgrade.
I still feel like I need a better explanation than my manager said no. My business will suffer without the phone. A large part of my business is done because I am able to provide immediate service. I provide warranty services to several construction companies as well as provide services that dont fit into the contracts of their other vendors and subcontractors. My office is at home which is anywhere from 20 to 40 miles away from the neighborhoods I work in which makes being able to get emails and texts on the fly essential. I have no problem telling a customer no myself but I would never give a reason of "we just dont do that" or "my manager says no". I dont feel like I'm asking too much out of Verizon to either give me a good reason or a freaking upgrade 30 days early. And just for the record the dead phone doesnt have a removable back where I can simply get a new battery to put in.

You can simply purchase a phone at full retail cost if it is important to your business. This can be done at any time. You do not need to be eligible for an upgrade.
