There's nothing in my applications folder
If i go into my applications folder, all that's visible is my Limewire folder. yet when I click on an application in the dock, applications launch. So they're still there!

Ok I did a search for Logic Pro.app and that's in
/library/frameworks/applications
And in that folder are all my apps.
Is this the right place for them? As of a few days ago (when i installed Limewire) all my applications were in /Applications
Very confusing. Why would everything move?

When there is nothing in a particular folder stop with all the activity already!
When I open a folder that has nothing inside it, there are two places on the screen that are whirring non-stop. In the middle of the window, it keeps saying something like "exploring, blah, blah". Also, in the bottom left corner of the window, there is constant activity as well. If there is nothing in the folder, I can see that with my own eyes, I don't need the program to tell me there's nothing there every two seconds. All of that searching garbage should be left under the hood and out of sight.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I have just one simple question. In a finder window, under Machintosh HD. Is there supposed to be an "Application Folder"? OR is it supposed to be in the "home" folder? THX!
By default, the system installs a "Application" folder at the top of the hard drive. However, if applications are installed by non-admin users, they may well get placed in an "Applications" folder directly under the user's home folder.

Suddenly Nothing in My Photos Folder
After three days I finally faced the reality that this is not going to fix itself. Everything is perfectly normal in Aperture. Projects all there, folders all there and everything works just fine except there is nothing in the Photos folder. I rebooted, fixed the database and permissiona with no luck. I have another library with family photos and the Photo folder is fine there. Yes, I checked the search box and made sure it was cleared. I thought that after a few days the nearly 50,000 photos would appear again, but no. I have everything on an external Firewire 800 drive, but I don't know how that would matter. I can still access every file, but just not from the Photos folder. I am willing to explore any solutions that you folks might have. Thanks!

I have tried to download Mavericks on my 2010 iMac(10.6.8), but nothing happens, not even the install app downloads, also I tried to download chrome, I moved it to the applications folder and when I opened the folder it wasn't there. I have a 1tb hard drive that is mostly empty. By the way I just got this imac used from a reseller.
Mavericks downloads into the Applications folder, where you can install it. Some Mac App Store Troubleshooting information and how to resume a download that was interrupted; some of the information here might get you an answer. Failing that, try contacting Apple Support.

I had a few question marks on my icons in the dock, then went to find them in the applications folder only to discover there is nothing in there???
Sorry, i just turned my computer on......I noticed the question marks only when i went to open photoshop only to discover i couldn't. Along with Illustrator and Bridge ......everything was working the day before with no hitches.

Cant open Iworks-Numbers application. Computer is telling me I need to update numbers application in order open spreadsheet. Progran is already updated. This problem started yesterday. Any suggestions? Sounds like many other users are having the same problem.
Are you launching Numbers from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Numbers from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications. -
Root Applications folder is empty? ls -laO shows nothing
For some raisin, for the past couple days I've noticed my root applications folder is empty. The applications on the dock still launch fine, "Show in finder" shows an empty applications folder. ls -laO shows nothing. I notice that, if I look at it funny, sometimes the "utilities" folder pops up, but typically only for a few seconds. Same with with the MS Office folder. Searching for application names in spotlight shows them, but "open in enclosing folder" shows an empty Applications folder. Searching for Terminal shows Terminal, along with a full Utilities folder, but the applications folder is still empty when I go up the tree. I have no clue what's going on here. Can anyone give me an assist before I flatten and reinstall?

in the root Applications folder, all my apps are there, but the Applications folder within my User folder is empty.The "root Applications folder" contains applications available for all user accounts to use. If you have an Applications folder in your User folder (I, for one, don't) it is for your own private applications. If you don't have any, you can delete that folder if you wish (but check there are no other files, eg support files or application "helper" folders, in there first). -
Simple, When I want to open a .pdf page from the web, I get Finder to open and I have to go to my applications folder to pick up Acrobat reader, Is there a way to have Safari doing it all by itself, Preview, or any other program?
Right or control click a PDF file you have on the hard drive then click: Get Info
In the Get Info panel click the pop up menu next to: Open with
Select the app you want to open PDF files from the pop up menu then click: Change All -
I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail. There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software. I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. I don't have the original operating software disk. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Your reply suggests that you have moved Mail to a different location, which (as I said) will prevent it from being properly updated. You cannot use Mail 4.5 with any recent version of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) included Mail 5 and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) includes Mail 6. I'm assuming that you have either Lion or Mountain Lion, but if that is incorrect, you will need to provide that information.
At this point, you will need to reinstall your system. Hold down command-R at startup and reinstall the system right on top of the old one. This should not disturb any of your documents or applications, though you should have backups beforehand in case something goes wrong. And at this point, with your system in an uncertain state (I don't entirely know what you have done to it), something could go wrong.
You will also want to delete the old copy of Mail 4.5, wherever that is. You can't use it.
In the future, do not move any of the preinstalled applications. Leave them where they are. -
I have a mac book pro. Yesterday the mail app failed to open. I have tried to open it from the dock and the application folder but nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions to get it to work?
You don't need iDVD unless you are going to make DVDs. If you are just trying to share files, iDVD won't help you at all.
What you want to do is in iMovie, choose File/Share/File, and export that way. It creates an .mp4 file that should be readable on Macs or Windows.
You could also File/Share/YouTube if you don't mind posting them to YouTube, because of course YouTube videos are watchable by any Mac or Windows computer made in the last 10 years. -
I am running system 10.5.8 on my 17" mac pro laptop and using Firefox 3.6.17, I have tried on several occasions to install your new version 4 and when I drag icon onto my applications folder it tells me I have a newer version already there (which is now the 3.6.17). What is going on?

Acrobat Pro 9 for mac won't launch, reloaded from disk when hard drive needed to be replace. It's in applications folder but there is an X on the Acrobat Reinstall icon. What should I do.

What version of Mac OS are you using?
Adobe does not recommend migrating the software from one disk to the other.
Please run the setup file for Acrobat and reinstall the software. You might want to delete the existing version of Acrobat installed before reinstalling it.

All of my songs have exclamation points next to them but when I go to my iTunes media folder to find the files, there is nothing in the folders. Any idea what happened and how I can get my music back?
