Things have really changed.  I can't understand how Apple could release the Lion OS as buggy as it is ?  It's like reliving the nightmare of my PC days and the Microsoft crap !  Do I have to wipe the hardrive before reinstalling Snow Leopard ?  The amazing thing is that when I installed Snow Leopard not a hitch, ever !    My trust in Apple is gone and believe me I will think twice before doing anymore OS upgrades, **** I can go back to the PC for a lot less money.

Adios baby! Enjoy that PC!

    De-activate on the first computer, then install on the new one and activate. Nothing special is required as long as the user does not change.

  • Anyone else had trouble getting RID of Mt Lion? I was shocked to learn that I could NOT run some of my software on it and attempted (with online help) to reinstall SNow Leopard. My computer is now in the hospital! I should have been told beforehand.

    I 'upgraded' to Mt Lion over the weekend. It seemed very slow, and sluggish. Within a day I realized also that my Reunion program would not work,
    my Quicken would not work, and who knows what else. I kept getting alerts saying that I could not use any PC programs. So, I decided to go back to Snow Leopard - I spent two and a half hours on the phone with two very capable people, then was told that I'd have to take it to an Apple Store. I DO have
    extended warranty but a lot of good THAT does!  Besides, our nearest store is 160 miles away! So, I took it to our local authorized dealer. It is currently
    being worked on, and the minimum will be $189!  Fortunately, Time Machine was being backed up by my external hard drive.  But, I just received a
    call and they can't make my password work to get in!  Somehow that has changed back to an old one I don't remember!
    MY COMPLAINT:  When speaking with a rep about the feasibility of downloading Mt Lion, not ONCE did anyone tell me that I 'might' have these
    problems.  I NEVER would have upgraded! Now I just want my computer restored to USABLE -

    What an unfortunate story.   I hope you will quickly get things back to normal.
    To be fair though, there has been quite a lot written about the effects of mountain Lion and the loss of Rosetta, as one example.   I am wondering just how much research you did before buying.
    But on the brighter side, you can wipe Mountain Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard with not too much trouble.   It would have been much worse had you bought a new machine with M.L. pre-installed and then found your programs wouldn't work.

  • If I reinstall Snow Leopard to replace "user" with my own short name in accounts, will I wipe out all upgrades, mail settings, etc. that I have already set?

    After buying a second-hand laptop running Snow Leopard, I made mistake of upgrading software, creating mail accounts, Safari preferences, etc., before noticing that the account name was "user".  I want to replace this Admin account with my own short name, but can't seem to do it without completely reinstalling Snow Leopard.  If I do this, will I lose everything I have done already?  Thanks in advance,

    I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and foolishly upgraded to Yosemite. Now have numerous problems.  Is it possible to go back in time with Time Machine and reinstall Snow Leopard?  Then upgrade to Lion or Mavericks?  Any other ideas on how I can exit Yosemite?

    Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
    1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
    2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
    You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
    After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
    3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

    I'm having problems with iPhoto and the facebook set-up.  Every time I attempt to do so it says an error has occured and try again later.  I have not seen a solution posted.  Therefore, how does one contact Apple to solve the problem?  I'm new to the world of iMac but I find it a bit frustrating trying to solve basic issues/problems:(

    For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
    It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
    I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

    hi can anyone help please ? i have had apple products now for apron 7 years BUT have never been able to make the bluetooth work , not even when 2 products i.e. : phone and iPod are in the same room. So i stopped trying but would like to set it up between my iMac and iphone / ipad but can't get it to work, they say discoverable but just will not connect to one another. I also tried the connection code and tried without one ... NO JOY ... Is this common or am i a twit ?

    You can't connect an iPhone or iPad to a Mac via Bluetooth, except for Internet tethering.
    You're not doing anything wrong - it just isn't a feature of iOS devices.
    What were you hoping a Bluetooth connection would allow you to do?

  • I really can't understand how this recursive works??

    Hi all,
    I have got a recursive function that checks for palendrome string. But it is confusing. I know that a string is palenromme if it is empty or has a char or first char and last one are same and middle is palindromme too.
    but can't understand how this function works.
    class Palindromme
         boolean palindrom(String s)
              if (s.length() <= 1 || s.equals(null) || s=="") //this is the stopping point
                   return true;
              else
              {                    //recursive definition
                   return ( s.charAt(0) == s.charAt(s.length()-1) ) && palindrom(s.substring(1,s.length()-1));
    specially i don't know how palindrom(s.substring(1,s.length()-1)); is working cause it has to be increased for each loop.
    abdul
    PS: actually i don't know how recursion works from Data structure point of view

    Hi,
    ok your palindrome is : "otto"
    return ( s.charAt(0) == s.charAt(s.length()-1) ) && palindrom(s.substring(1,s.length()-1));
                  o                     o                                   tt
    so first part is true
    in the second part palindrom is called again but with the remaining tt
    so second time :
    return ( s.charAt(0) == s.charAt(s.length()-1) ) && palindrom(s.substring(1,s.length()-1));
                   t                     t                                 ""
    Third time:
    if (s.length() <= 1 || s.equals(null) || s=="") //this is the stopping point
    return true;after all for otto the recusion is:
    return ( s.charAt(0) == s.charAt(s.length()-1) ) && s.charAt(1) == s.charAt(s.length()-2) ) && nothing left of otto);

    My friend bought the Lion upgrade for her MacBook.  She would also like to upgrade her desktop Mac to Lion which is currently running Leopard.  Does she have to first buy a SnowLeopard upgrade for her desktop?  And will the upgrade from SnowLeopard to Lion then be free?  Both computers use the same apple ID.

    She would also like to upgrade her desktop Mac to Lion which is currently running Leopard.
    She needs to purchase Snow Leopard but she can re download Lion on the desktop for free after Snow Leopard is installed.
    And definitely use the same Apple ID to download Lion on the desktop.

    A Kernel Task runs at 700% processor power between every 5 minutes to 1 hour, slowing down everything I do. I have tried Onyx, zapped the PRAM and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Any suggestions?

    pan did you solve it? i have the same issue. i see people writing 'oh no kernel on 200-300%... well my kernel runs up to 600-800% anytime. i'm running os 10.6.8, i have 2010 2GHz intel core i7, with 16gb ram and... go figure. even ssd drive, thinking i have the fastest possible hardware installed to ease up on any task i'm about to do. but when it gets slow then safari just 'quits' on me, mouse cursor gets so sloppy slow (that's how i always realize that kernel is knocking on the door again). but... i do use screen, 24 apple LED and i have the laptop still open, so dual screen. i think it happens way less when the laptop is closed and i use just the big screen... but i refuse, this is not a calculator, its god **** macbook pro, so if one extra screen kills my workflow then i have to... idont know what. help apple, wth! and your safari ***** so much it's not even nice, it's so buggy but i'm the crazy one, because i keep using it. that's all

  • Can I wipe my hardrive before upgrading my Macbook to OS X 10.6 by using the Snow Leopard install CD?

    Can I wipe my hardrive before upgrading my Macbook to OS X 10.6 by using the Snow Leopard install CD?  Or do I need I need to wipe my computer from the OS X 10.5 CD that came with the laptop?
    In other words.  If I purchase the Snow Leopard Software for $29, can I wipe my hard drive first before installing it?  Or do I need to wipe my hard drive, reinstall OS X 10.5, and then continue to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

    If you want to wipe the drive in Leopard, do it from the install disk. Otherwise do it from you Snow Leopard install disc.
