Thinking of buying the Insignia HD 10.0MP Camcorder any suggestions?

Hi All,
I have been lookin to purchase a camcorder and was curious if anyone knew if these were any good.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23174%3B+-+High-Definition+10.0MP+Camcorder+with+3%22+TFT-LC...
I am looking to spend under $400 and want it to have flash memory and High-Def if possible. Or does anyone know if it would be better to buy another brand with standard definition instead to stay in this price range. Im kind of lost on this.

Quality control of Insignia camcorders is very hit or miss.  I bought one of the older "pocket-style" 720p units and it was basically useless - massive amounts of sensor noise and macroblocking, but not enough to prove to a returns lady that it was "defective" as opposed to "working normally".  She decided to be "nice" and waive the restocking fee, with a comment that "any LCD camcorder will have the same problems" - well every camcorder on the market can be described this way, and that units performance was definately NOT typical.  Even cheaper Aipteks had better image quality, unfortunately they tend to have loose batteries.
I eventually went for a Canon HF100 a year and a half ago.  The current lowest-end Canon units are $500 for the HF-R100.  You might find one of the older discontinued units used somewhere - between the HF100 and the HF-R100, I'd personally go for the older HF100 (which had optical image stabilization.)

I am thinking of buying the new Canon EOS 1DX camera.
Do I need to upgrade from Photoshop CS3 to take full advantage of the new gear?  Thanks,

    Yes. You'll need Photoshop CS6.
Only Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 (and later) supports the Canon EOS 1DX.
"The Camera Raw 7.1 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS6."

Note: you only have until 31 Dec 2012 to upgrade to CS6 from CS3 at upgrade prices. Under Adobe's new "one version back" policy introduced in the CS6 cycle, which comes into full effect on 1 Jan 2013, you will have to pay full price for CS6 if you have not upgraded by then.

  • Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Airport Express or Extreme for my school dormitory, would i need to plug them into the already existing school internet via LAN cable or do the products just work by themselves?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Airport Express or Extreme for my school dormitory, would i need to plug them into the already existing school internet via LAN cable or do the products just work by themselves?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
AirPort stations aren't modems, so they have to be connected to the modem you are already using. The AirPort Extreme and Express have a WAN port, where you have to plug an Ethernet cable that has to be connected to the modem.
After doing this, you can set up the AirPort station by using AirPort Utility. If you have Windows, download AirPort Utility from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547

  • Thinking of buying the apple tv

I am thinking of buying the new apple tv, but I am not sure of a few things, I have been searching, but there is so much info its hard to find the right answers.
What I want to do is watch movies and pictures from my imac and ipad, which the apple tv does.
But can I also hook it up to my stereo just for music?
So hook it up to TV for movies and such and also hook it up to the stereo just for music?
Also, can I make it stream family videos from a video camera, which I would download to my imac?
So video camera videos from imac?
Or if someone can point me to a website that might show some hook up suggestions.
    Thank you

The Apple TV has an HDMI and an optical output. If your stereo has either an HDMI or optical input then you can hook it directly to your receiver for music.
My receiver has an HDMI input so I only need to connect it to the receiver with HDMI and then the receiver connects to my HDTV with HDMI. That's the preferred connection method. If your receiver does not have HDMI, you can connect the Apple TV to the TV with HDMI and then connect the Apple TV to the receiver with an optical cable.
The Apple TV outputs sound over both outputs simultaneously so either of the above two methods will allow you to listen to music on your stereo without having the TV on. If you don't have the right inputs on your receiver, most TVs have RCA outputs that you can connect to the receiver that way and I believe that requires the TV to be on but I'm not sure.
The videos from your video camera will play on the Apple TV as long as they are in a supported format. Otherwise you would need to convert them.

for the last 6 months my mac is crashing all the time. I think it is safari because firefox works fine. Any suggestions?

What is crashing, is it just Safari or is the entire computer freezing (if that's what you mean by crashing)? If the latter, are you saying it only happens when Safari is open?
You need to explain with more detail just what is happening and when.
Do you get a message to restart?

If you're using a fourth generation or earlier iPod touch, click here and download the software.
If you're using a fifth generation iPod touch and an Intel Mac, buy Mac OS X 10.6 from the online Apple Store and run Software Update.
If you're using a fifth generation iPod touch and a PowerPC Mac, buy a newer computer.

  • I used to be able to keep my finger on a key to select an accent in mountain lion but I cannot do the same thing in Maverick.  Any suggestions?

I used to be able to keep my finger on a key to select an accent in mountain lion but I cannot do the same thing in Mavericks.  Any suggestions?

I found the following info at file:///Users/gordondoyle/Desktop/Mac%20OS%20X%20Tips.webarchive
Here’s yet another iPhone feature that has cropped up on the Mac in Lion. While typing, simply pressing and holding on a key will bring up a popup showing all the possible diacritics (accents, cedillas, etc.) that can be added to the letter. You can then choose from the possibilities by pressing the corresponding number on your keyboard, or by clicking the one you want.
This seems to be a fairly quick way typing accents, and is much easier to use than the old method which involved remembering a number of Option key combinations. It does have one drawback however — it stops you from pressing and holding to write a long line of repeated letters, like thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis.
If you don’t regularly type accents, then losing the repeated character functionality might not be worth it for you. In this case, you can disable this new feature using a Terminal command. Open up Terminal (located in Applications/Utilities), paste the following line and press Return.
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool NO
You will need to restart each application for the changes to take effect. Simply repeat the command with YES at the end to reverse.
and it seems to be related to your suggestion that I follow the threads related to the link you provided except that the above info is the reverse of what I think that I need to do.  I will try what is shown in the threads however and see what happens - most appreciatively!

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.3 upgrade issues..  I run the full install and my computer restarts to complete the installation, but when it restarts the software has not upgraded.  Any suggestions?

I've tried to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3.  I run the full install and my computer restarts to complete the installation, but when it restarts the software has not upgraded.  Any suggestions?

Are you booting from the retail disc to do the installation, or running it while booted from Macintosh HD?
It should work either way, but it doesn't always work when booted from Macintosh HD. The system files are supposed to be moved into place during the restart (while the HD is unmounted) making for a long restart time which sometimes causes people to think somethings wrong and abort it. Which is a bad move.
If you're booting from the retail disc it's less obvious what the problem may be; however if you've tried it from booted from the HD and it's failed, then tried booting from the disc, it will fail again because the system components are already on the HD in a disc image waiting to be moved into place.
Whichever way you were tryig, I'd try downloading OmnDiskSweeper (it's free)  and using it to see if there's a large package (around 7-10 GB) lurking somewhere that may contain the installer files. If you do, you'll need to trash that before the installer will see a 'clean' system again.
It's also worth asking how much free space you have on your HD - if there's not enough for the installer to use for the temporary package or dmg, it'll fail.
Was there no warning dialogue after the unsuccessful install?

  • When I click on iPhoto icon I get a box that reads "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."  Whether I hit Quit or Upgrade the problem is not fixed.  Any suggestions?  Yes, I have tried Command Option iPhoto..no luck.

When I click on iPhoto icon I get a box that reads "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."  Whether I hit Quit or Upgrade the problem is not fixed.  Any suggestions?  Yes, I have tried Command Option iPhoto..no luck.  I think I may have hit Upgrade the first time.  I really need this to be fixed ASAP.  Thanks for your help.

    Assuming iPhoto 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

thank you, I have the adaptors so glad that would work.  I just heard adaptors burn out often.  So Just thought for my main iMac computer, a plug would be best.  I will get one once I move.
Any other suggestions or things I should know about apple products in Ireland.  I know there are no Apple stores there.
An adaptor doesn't burn out. It merely serves as a means to connect the power prongs on your device to the power supply.
I believe you are thinking of a transformer, which you do not need. A transformer converts one voltage to another.
You don't need to do that as the power supply of modern electronics can take almost any worldwide voltage.
Look at the label on the device. It should indicate the input power acceptable of 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
Additionally, I found the adapters cheaper in the UK than I found them in the US. They were available in most supermarket chains. I wasn't in Ireland, so I can't say one way or the other.
If you have something that doesn't have that input power spec, it would require a transformer.
On other items like electric clocks or things with motors, you can connect them up to a transformer and the voltage will be correct, but the frequency may not. For clocks, that will cause them to not keep time well. For motors, they will burn out.

my kids set up itune account on my computer years ago and no one remembers the password.  They started new accounts on their macs.   I want to start my own itunes account, but I would like to get some of the music off this account.  Any suggestions?

The easiest way would probably be to recover the data of the old account and change it to match your current info, after that you can continue to use the account without any problems. To recover your account go to: Apple - My Apple ID
Alternatively if you want to start a new account do it and then contact iTunes support to see if the y can transfer your purchases (I know of cases on which they have done it)
