ThinkPad hangs on boot - stuck at Lenovo boot screen

I'm experiencing random boot issues with a brank new thinkpad yoga 20CD0038PB win 8.1 pro. Once the system stalls on the boot screen the fn light stays on and I cannot even access bios. Powering down and keeping power button pressed for several second doesn't help either, However If I leave the computer powered down for and hour or longer it usually boots like nothing happened. Then the issue comes back intermittently with a restart or sometimes a preceeding blue screen.
Sometimes when the issue occures it also reports hdd0 error, and lenovo sent me a new hdd which I replaced that this has not fixed the issue.
I have the latest BIOS GQET29WW 1.09. I've run memory and disk tests using Lenovo Solution Center and memory tests in bios and they were ok.
On the BIOS download page I've found references to some issues regarding boot hangs with earlier versions of bios (1.7).
At this point I'm stuck. Anyone experiencing similar issues?

I am also experiencing this problem Like the OP, it seems random and has occured from day one.
Boots to Lenovo Screen
Fails to show spinning circle
F1 light stays on
Nothing further happens (longest I have left it for is ~ 5 min).
If I hold the power button down for several seconds, I can switch the machine off. Usually waiting 30-60 seconds and re-starting is sufficient for a normal boot and start up. On occassion, I have to go through the shut down cycle twice before I can successfully start the computer.
Unlike the OP, I have not seen any error messages, or blue screen.

  • Lenovo g510 stuck in lenovo splash screen

I bought this g510 less then a year ago without an OS.
I've installed win7 first then ubuntu14.04, back when i get it.
Yesterday I deleted my win7 partition and reinstalled a premium sp1 win7 version from a usb formatted as NTFS - as you might have guessed I'm booting the laptop in legaci mode. The installation got stuck and failed and i had to do a hard reset.
After the hard reset the laptop won't boot and in fact it won't even pass the splash screen or respond to fn+f2 or any other shortcut to get into the bios. Even when i shut it off and press the Novo button it starts but doesn't display the blue utility menu with bios and boot options. Ive tried pressing the power button for 30 seconds witn the battery and power cable disconnected and tried to boot from usb but still nothing.
I then took the hard drive out and the laptop would boot and respond to novo button and fn+f2 and i can go into bios. It would also boot from usb when the hdd is disconnected. But it dosen't matter which bios settings i change or if the bootable usb is connected, when i hook the hdd back the laptop will just get stuck on lenovo splash screen again and won't respond to Novo button or fn+12 and it won't boot from usb - i should mention it does respond to capslock or the key to make the screen black (fn+f9).
I have a 1TR samsung sata hdd that seems to be perfectly fine. I don't think its the hdd or any of the hardware and the symptoms are not of defected hdd or anything else i've seen before. It 's also not a uefi problem as i've tried legacy and uefi mode with the same results. Also my usb boot is enabled in the bios just in case you're wondering.
This has ruined my weekend and about to ruine my week. Help lenovo please save me....?!?

    hi markwills,
    Welcome to the Forums.
If using another drive works fine on the G510 then I suspect that the stock HDD is failing or has corrupt partitions.
Can you consider using a 2.5" SATA enclosure to convert the stock HDD into an external drive and try to format the drive and/or run a hardware scan on it using the following:
      - Lenovo Storage Test or
      - HD Tune.
When finished, try to insert it back on the G510 and observe.
If you get errors on the scan or if the above step is not possible, I recommend you contact warranty support on how to go about getting the unit serviced.

  • [LENOVE G460] Stuck at Lenovo Logo Screen when a Boot-able USB plugged in

    The subject says it all.
I was thinking of doing a Live Install of a Linux Distribution using a Bootable USB.
So I plugged the Boot-able USB and then Power the Laptopn ON and then press F2 to enter the BIOS SETUP
But even after a few minutes the screen doesn't even budge from the Lenovo Logo... It just says "Entering Setup..."
First I thought something was wrong with my Boot-able USB so I checked it by using another laptop and TADA!!!! I managed to enter the bios setup screen, change the boot order and then start the Linux Installation without any problem.
And then I decided to do it again on the Lenovo G460 and then... The same Stuck at The Lenovo Logo Screen happened again.
Could Anyone shed some light on this problem?
    Thanks XD

  • White Macbook 13" will not boot - Stuck in Safe Boot mode

    In a nutshell --
macbook will not boot.  Originally it was stuck on the gray screen with spinning wheel.  Here is the course of action taken thus far (in order)
    1.  Reset SMC -- removed battery, pushed power button for 5-1 seconds.  Rrestsarted.  Nothing.  Still with the gray screen etc.
    2.  Tried to restart in Safe Boot mode.  --  Macbook will restart and after 25% on the status bar it hangs up.  After a 5 minutes or so it shuts down (I assume form overheating as the fan is running wild.)
    3.  Wheneve I start it now it tires to go in safe mode so I tired to zap the PRAM (opt/command/p/r)  No luck.  Tried twice.  Once after three chimes.  Once after 2 chimes.  Still tries to boot in safe mode.
    4.  Tried Recovery Mode (I am running Mountain Lion).  Can boot into recovery mode.  Ran disk repair and it said all was fine.  Would not allow me to repair permissions but I could verify them.  I ran verify.  No messages came up at all -- thought this was strange.  I also tried to re-install the OS but the first time the only disk available to me was the recovery partition.  The second time I went into Recovery mode I saw the regular Hard Drive partition but it was grayed out and locked.  Considered restarting to an external USB drive but then did not know what I would do then.  Might try this tomorrow.
    5.  Ran Target disk mode with my iMac.  The disk did not mount in the desktop but showed up in disk utility with the HD partition grayed out.  Could verify and repair disk but nothing was allowed regarding permissions -- all options grayed out.
    6.  Restarted with Verbose mode.  Ran for 5 - 10 minutes and shut down.  Last line I saw was "checking extended attributes file"  No error message.  Again, maybe it was an overheating issue as the fans were going wild and it was about the same length of tome running as in safe mode when the macbook shut down.
OK.  The hard drive is a few moths old.  There was nothing strange going on with the hard drive prior to shut down.  The only odd thing happening was the dvd drive was begining to make sounds upon restart (from sleep or full restart).  Like it was checking/reading a disk in the drive.  This was especially odd as the drive has been dead/unusable for a few years.  (When you a dvd or cd in it could not read).  This dvd drive sound happens even now upon each start up.
I do not want a new motherboard.......or laptop.
    Thanks.
    Robert

Thanks for the prompt response.  Thanks for the adivice.  I wish i could get it to go into safe mode.  It stops after 5 minutes of trying.  I am not sure if it is the hard drive as it will boot into Reocvery Mode --  meaning it will let me access the 650 MB parititon Lion has set aside - so that part of the disk is working.
I am headed to the Geniusues soon.

  • Boot stucked on a white screen & gray apple

    Hello,
I am using an Imac purchased in 2010, operrating a Maverick OSX system.
Since 2 days, my Imac does not boot and gets stucked on the white screen with a grey appel, and a small grey square sticked to the mouse cursor.
I tryied all tips & tricks suggested by several osx websites (after having disconnected peripherals), I mean:
    - reset nvram
    - start in safe mode, I checked the hard drive with the disck utility and corrected several permissions; but the reboot gets fixed at the same level
    - fsck
    - resinstallation of a time machine system backup
    - installation of a new version of osx
    Noone of those operation helped.
Thinking it was an hardware element which had an impact of the OSX operations, I tryied to boot on the my Windows 7 via Bootcamp, and the Windows OS worked properly on my Imac !
So I really don't know what to do next; do you have an idea ?
Thanks in advance for your help .

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you got it from aliexpress for example and confirmed order received or you're protection has run out unfortunately you can't do much.
If you're still under aliexpress protection you can open a case. Same goes for other sellers/sites if you paid your order using PayPal.
Really sorry about this....what can I say.

  • LENOVO Y2P stuck at Lenovo Splash Screen

I partitioned my SSD into two parts trying to install another OS to the newly unallocated partition. Rebooted into boot menu, but couldn't find my USB drive in the menu. Anyways I said nevermind it's okay and decided to boot normally. It booted without any problem and then for whatever reason I shut down the pc. Turn it back on a little later, now it's stuck at the LENOVO splash screen, won't boot no matter what I do

Do you have a Windows 8 or 7 recovery media? If so, boot to that, enter advance options and do a system restore or boot fix (boot fix is your last option if using a Windows 7 recovery img). This might fix the boot but, the okr system is broken for good unless you purchase recovery disks.

So I made a huge trial and error, and find no solution...

-Formatted SSD and legacy formated drive+ install of Win7+ all kinds of BIOS Setup- NOT WIRKING
    2.

-Formatted SSD and used UEFI formated drive+ install of Win7+all kinds of BIOS Setup - NOT WORKING
    3.
stock HDD in main position + SSD in the DVD slot
-Formatted SSD and used UEFI formated drive+ install of Win7+all kinds of BIOS Setup
BIOS recognize the SSD drive, but windows install wont give it in the list, even though I formatted the drive, removed the partitions...etc.

The only solution I could come up with is to take the 120GB SSD + mounting rack back to the seller and changed the SSD drive to a Samsung 250 GB 840EVO (Company laptop so thats enough for me), put the DVD back to its place and use the 500 GB stock as external USB 3.0 drive

    hi lipokjmr,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If the system get's stuck in the Lenovo Screen,
It means that a hardware cannot be initialized.
Since the system is still under Warranty I suggest you call Lenovo Technical Support and Report that the problem showed up again, they may look for other Parts that is causing the Issue or it may be a diff Part Failing.
    Hope this helps

  • G4 Won't Boot, Stuck on Solid Blue Screen

It's flickering every ten seconds from a lighter blue to a med blue, sometimes the rotating wheel is there, sometimes it disappears.
I had to power if down without proper shut down when it displayed a message saying iTunes had quite unexpectedly, only I did not even have iTunes open.
Then it asked if I wanted to report the problem, I canceled and it kept coming back with both dialog boxes, after attempting to cancel them five times I shut all apps that I could shut and then power it off to force a quit.
When I powered back on it displayed the screen with the apple on it, then went to a solid light blue and it's stuck there. I have powered it off two more times,
and left it off for a few minutes but it keeps doing the same thing when I try to get it to start up again.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
    Janet

    Hi Janet,
    >It's flickering every ten seconds from a lighter blue to a med blue, sometimes the rotating wheel is there, sometimes it disappears.
Is it hot there? Have you blown the dust out lately?
    >I had to power if down without proper shut down when it displayed a message saying iTunes had quite unexpectedly, only I did not even have iTunes open.
Hmmm, iTunes Helper is normally running akk the time,  Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window, highlight it & click the little minus icon.
Boot off your Apple Hardware Test Disc , then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Your model would have a separate AHT CD.
Here's the list and downloads for AHT for some G4 models if you don't find yours, some G4s only have it on the Original Install Disc...
    http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Macbook pro won't boot, stuck on white apple screen

Noticed today, that my macbook pro won't boot . It gets to the white apple screen with the spinner under the apple logo. It stays like this for a long time without doing anything except spinning.
I've powered down and tried to boot up several times.
I have boot camp and windows on my mac and when the white screen appears, I can press Option to bring up which hard drive and the Windows partition will load without any problems.

Exacty what happens when you try to boot up from the disc that came with your computer?  Are you holding down the c key?  Have you tried holding down the "option key?"  Are you able to run the Hardware Test - Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Lion - This will install a "fresh" copy of Lion without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for.
Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Toshiba requires two boots (stuck on first boot)

Hi everyone. I have a ~1 month old Toshiba Satellite L50D-B172 laptop with Windows 8.1 installed. The laptop runs smoothly when started and updates in, however roughly few days I begun to experience problems with booting up into WIndows. If the laptop is turned off and I go to power it on, it will get to boot, but I can't see anything on screen where there would normally be a spinning circle to let me know it is loading and Toshiba logo, however this is not there, instead it just displays the nothing. And fan is going strong and even Caps Lock can be added or removed, so lights also works on it. More fun it is because it seems to boot to desktop, as when I for example add camera for charge, Windows do a sound "Device added". So seems no picture, but laptop still boots. Strangely, if I then power down the computer with longpress, wait a few seconds and power it back, the boot process runs fine with picture. Also I can reach desktop by pressing fast On/off at boot problem, then it will go to sleep mode from where I can open it and see even stuff done I tried to do with for example CTRL ALT DEL, so I will see the program which this opens. Has anyone experienced this issue before? And how to fix?

Thank you. Great answer! I'm preparing to go back to shop asking them to send this to repair. This laptop is so robust, when you manage first to open it. And even if it is easily possible, I still think, it's worth to repair it since warranty and what if stuff goes even more bad in time with this. Again I appreaciate your answer and I know what to do next. Thanks a lot!
