cx2ching,
I'm assuming you are trying Bootcamp. You might want to ask your question in the BootCamp forum:

One common problem with driver installations occurs if you aren't using Windows XP SP2, I read several threads where this was a problem with the USB drivers, for one. -
I have a MacBook Air, and have purchased individually Numbers and Pages. I was sent an Excel file on a thumb drive but cannot open the file. The message states that the Excel file is encryeted. Is ther any way to open a PC file on my Mac Book Air?
Pat and BobExcel does not use the .xcl extension for any of its native file formats? The only files I've ever seen with xcl as the file extension were associated with embedded application code projects.
If this is in fact an Excel file, but an encrypted one, you cannot open it (in excel or any compatible application) without the decryption password. -
When I plug in a Lexar thumb drive, I get a "USB Low Power Notice' saying it cannot operate because it needs more power than is available. This is new. Thumb drives worked last week. Any suggestions? Is this an apple or a Lexar issue?
Apple intentional, use a powered USB hub instead.

Flash Player slow (unless a thumb drive is in)
We are having an issue that we are having trouble tracking down a solution for. Our organization uses Flash videos for training purposes. On, what appears to be, random machines the videos will play very slowly. Now here comes the unique part: They will run fine the instant a thumb drive or something similiar is put in.
Computer Setups: Windows XP SP3 using IE 7. This is something that cannot change due to hospital apps not working outside of this specific setup. 4 Gb of RAM, Dual Core 3.3 Ghz CPU's up to Quad cores, and an array of video cards have been used (ATI, Nvidia, and intel onboard.) All the setups have the current Adobe Flash versions.
Troubleshooting steps taken:
Fresh off the dvd setup of XP SP3 and current updates: Runs slowely (we also turned off hardware acceleration)
Fresh off the dvd setup of Win 7 and current updates: Runs smoothly
We have updated IE on the XP SP3 setup to IE8 and it still runs slow. We install Firefox and it runs slow. We install Chrome (which has Flash built in) and it runs smoothly. Now here's an interesting thing: If we run a video in IE it will be slow. If we then run a completely unrelated video in Chrome side by side the video in IE runs smooth until the Chrome video gets done which in turn slows the IE one down again.
On all setups we have current drivers installed and current updates. When running these videos the instant you put a thumb drive in it will speed up the video. If you take the thumb drive out the video will be slow again.
We have done some procmon and procexplorer on these and it doesn't seem to call anything on the thumb drives. If you guys have any ideas I am more then willing to try them out.Fresh XP Image

Risk to Mac from Government Thumb Drive Virus?
I was just informed that my government-issue thumb drive contained "remnants" of the virus which led to the US government to ban/severely limit usage of portable USB drives. I had used the USB device to transfer files/photos between my macbook and my work computer. I do not have an AV program on the macbook. I do not know if my macbook has been infected. Further, I have been informed by the IT folks that commercially-available software cannot detect this malware, and the only govt scanning programs are Windows-only. I have used other USB devices in the macbook. The nature of the malware would not be explained to me. So, is my computer at risk? What steps, if any, do I need to take? Any and all thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. FYI - I keep my firewall on for "essential services only".
I pick these examples of malware up often: from student computers, department computers, computers in the shops I use (printing) and pretty much anywhere computers with Windows are found. I normally discover that there is such a file on the thumb drive when I put it in the Mac's USB port and Crossover starts up as the malware tries to self-install. I just quit and then delete the .exe files I find.
Just occasionally of late, while being able to delete the executable part (the dangerous bit), some residual directories have been left and I cannot delete these without Root access (not even sudo works). A technician with a secure Win machine takes these off for me.
Without Crossover, it is a simple task to look (using a Mac) and delete in 99% of cases but if you tried this with a Win machine, well. . . . -
I am letting a friend use my computer as a surrogate for the time being to backup her phone and photos. I had never used the guest login before and didn't realize that all the files would be lost at logout. I haven't logged out yet but I need help trying to get the iphoto library onto a thumb drive. If at all possible I would like to get the backup from itunes as well.
I have already copied all of the photos out of iphoto but that doesn't save the time, date and location of them. I cannot access the folder to move the iphoto library because of it being in the guest login. I have already deleted the photos off of the phone so that is a no go.
I've been trying to search for an answer but haven't had any luck yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.have already copied all of the photos out of iphoto but that doesn't save the time, date and location of them.

.ink issue on a thumb drive
Hi,
Trying to help a friend out.
She has a MB Air - has a thumb drive she uses with it - she put this in a PC for printing and now the main folder is a .ink file so she cannot access the files. The drive is showing on the mac as FAT32 and is 25GB of 32GB full so is not just shortcuts.
I put this in my laptop and it works fine so the files are definately on there. How do you convert it back so that macs can use again?
Thanks,
Markthank you

NI-VISA Driver with Interrupt detection
Hello everyone,
I am new to PCI and PCI driver, encounter an problem when use the NI-VISA to program a PCI driver with the interrupt detection.
Here is the situation:
This PCI card is made of two chips : the PCI9030 pci bridge chip and ET1100 chip (the local chip that connected to PCI9030). The memory of ET1100 is mapped 1:1 to the PCI9030 memory starting at BAR2. Now I want the PCI card generates an interruption when the content of register at offset 0x221 changes.
I add the interrupt detection (see the figure above or the attachment), interruption removal and disarm following the guide "Using the NI-VISA Driver Wizard and NI-VISA to Develop a PXI(e)/PCI(e) Driver in Windows". However, when I completed and installed this driver in the LabVIEW RT OS, the system can recognize the card, but cannot generate the interruption when the register at offset 0x221 changes, therefore does anyone tell me the reason ? Or tell me how to program this driver using NI-VISA?
Any suggestions is welcome.
And Thank you in advance!Duplicate post here: http://forums.ni.com/t5/PXI/NI-VISA-PCI-driver-with-interrupt-detection/m-p/2618341

How do I install Mountain Lion on a thumb drive?
How do I install Mountain Lion on a thumb drive when my computer is running Mavericks? I downloaded the Mountain Lion installer, but when I attempt to run it I get a message that says "You cannot install OS X 10.8 on this computer." I don't want to install it on the computer, I want to install it on the thumb drive—but it won't give me a choice of drives.
The reason I want to do this is I want to be able to boot my iMac into Mountain Lion in order to test a hardware/software combination I suspect might be incompatible with Mavericks.
(Note: there are plenty of instructions online for how to create a bootable thumb drive with the Mountain Lion installer, but that's not what I want. I want to install ML on the thumb drive itself.)Sure you have a proper installer application. When I start it I get:
Clicking on Continue, then accepting the licensing stuff, gets me to:
If you click on Show All Disks, then all mounted disks will be presented including your flash drive.
Now the above is a Mavericks installer, but it's the same for Mountain Lion. -
Copy from thumb drive to external hard drive fails - "file is in use"
I have photos on a thumb drive formatted MS-DOS FAT16 from a windows machine, all are .jpg files and I'm trying to copy them to one of two partitions on an external LaCie hard drive, formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The other partition is used only for Time Machine.
With absolutely nothing else running except The Finder, when I try to directly copy them by dragging a folder of them from the thumb drive window onto the external drive window, it starts up a copy, then returns the error "Cannot complete the copy because the file "<<imagename>>.jpg" is in use. <<imagename>> is always the first item in the folder being copied.
Sharing & Permissions for the folders and all images inside are "Read & Write" privileges for (Me) (unknown) and everyone.
I can successfully drag a folder of images from the thumbdrive to my MacBook Pro (10.5.8) desktop and they copy fine. When I then try to drag the folder from the desktop to the external drive, I get the same "in use" error message.
I've used Disk Utility to repair disk permissions and repair disk on my MacBook Pro, repair disk on the thumb drive and repair disk on the external hard drive. All are fine - same error occurs.
I've ejected, turned off and disconnected all external drives and thumb drives, restarted my MBP and re-connected the drive and turned it on, and then inserted the thumb drive - same error occurs.
Help please! Am I missing something basic here? Any troubleshooting wizards out there with some other thoughts or ideas?
