Thumbnail enhancements

In Bridge's preferences, I'd like to be able to specify more "Additional lines of thumbnail data".
At present there's a useful but arbitrary list of metadata fields that you can choose to display. I'd like to be able to change this, for example so I could show under the thumbnail the lens description, GPS data, or even data from a custom File Info panel such as "Project Cost Code".
I'm envisaging you might do it by sourcing the drop down list from an xml preset file that specifies the namespace/field combinations. Maybe it would be handy to be able to hot swap these presets?

  • Is it possible to exclude thumbnails and previews from a vault?

I think in Aperture 1.5, vaults did not include any preview or thumbnail files, but only the files containing metadata, adjustments etc. (and the masters, unless referenced only)
Somewhere along the way to 3.0 this changed so now previews and thumbnails are backed up each time you update your vault.
    This has two BIG drawbacks:
    - the vault becomes much larger than necessary (I always generate large previews)
    - the update process takes much longer as more files need to be copied.
On the other hand, I do not see any tangible benefit of including the extra files - provided I back up both masters and the adjustments, I should be able to regenerate thumbnails and previews after a restore following, say, a fatal hard drive error.
(If I chose to delete all previews and thumbnails prior to creating a vault, I assume that the vault would be significantly smaller, without losing any information that cannot be recreated by  'generate thumbnail/preview')
    Is my understanding correct?
If so, is there a way around it?
If not, can we please have this option in Aperture 3.5 or 4.0?
    Thank you!

Hi Matt.  You raise an interesting point.  What you say makes sense to me.
My general response is:  external drives are cheap.  Buy what you need and don't spend any time trying to "save" disk space.  IME, the administrative overhead is far more costly than the upfront equipment costs.
Here are some specific answers (as I understand how Apeture uses Vaults).
There is no way to exclude Previews from Vaults.  Each Vault includes all extant Previews.
Each Vault is a differential back-up.  Updating the Vault should update only those files that have been added, changed, or deleted.  Unchanged files -- including Previews -- are not backed up anew each time you update a Vault.  The amount of time it takes to update a Vault will vary based on the number of changes made, and should have nothing to do with the size of the Library or the number of files in it.
You can test your hypothesis.  Delete all your Previews, and create a new Vault.  Let us know what you find out.
Suggestions for enhancements should be made directly to Apple via "Aperture→Provide Aperture Feedback".  The forum is -- officially -- strictly for user-to-user interaction.

  • Thumbnail Images in FCS

    Hi all,
I've been scratching my head (or more recently, beating it against my keyboard - fortunately they now make them in aluminium, good for the company's expenditure, bad for my head), trying to create some nice quality .jpg thumbnail stills through FCS. I just cannot seem to get them to come out the way I want them to, and I find the settings to be about as user-friendly as an alarm button, hidden behind bullet proof glass, with a sign saying "break glass to sound alarm".
    *What I want to achieve:*
I need to create thumbnail images of about 50,000 video clips. These need to go on our website, and should be .jpgs sized at 200x113. Also, the source (dv clips) should be cropped a few pixels, to eliminate that nice fuzzy dv edge. These should then end up on our site via FTP (this last bit, I reckon I can do).
*How I've been failing to do it*
I think it's something to do with the parameters I'm using. Here's what I've been doing thus far in Administration>Transcode Settings>New preset>Parameters:
Source Pixel Aspect Ration: Pal 16x9
Source Offset: 3/2 (is this cropping?)
    Source Image Size: -blank-
Destination Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square (HD)
    Image Size: 200/113
    Framce Size: -blank-
    Offset: -blank-
    Frame Number: 1
    Rotate/Flip: -off-
The images that are produced are, well, quite nasty little things that are the wrong shape and sized and uncropped. I've looked in the documentation and can't seem to find what the above parameters mean.
Any help and guidance would be very much appreciated.

  • Thumbnail Images in ECC6.0 in DMS

    Hi DMS Experts
In ECC6.0 There is functionality in DMS in Transaction Code CV04N
    to display thumbnail images .
I have done setting in Workstation apllication and Set Up Workstation Application for Thumbnails (Images).Still I am not able to display images in thumbnails
Apart from this are there any setting to be done.
this functionality works in IDEAS server, but not in Sandbox which I made setting.
Does this work for Easy DMS only.
    Pls guide me
    With warm regards

    Hi Pande,
generally please note that the thumbnail display supports graphics in JPG, GIF or BMP only.
To enable the proper thumbnail display you have to maintain also a thumbnail sequence in the customizing under Set Up Workstation Application for Thumbnails (Images). Here you can determine what type of thumbnail is displayed first for the specific document type. If you want to enable thumbnail view for other
graphic formats you have to implement a specific converter which can be done by BADI implementation. You will find further information in transaction SPRO under
    - Cross-Application Components
    - Document Management
    - General Data
    - Business Add-Ins (BAdIs)
--> BAdI: Enhancements for Thumbnails (Images)
I hope this information will help you to enable thumbnail display.
    Best regards,
    Christoph

  • Thumbnail images in Lightroom.

In Bridge you can enhance imported thumbnail images to a high quality, however in Lightroom 3 or 4 this does not appear to be the case, with images appearing of a lesser quality. Is there a process in Lightroom which will enhance thumbnail images to a high quality as in Bridge.?

are you seeing any quality issue or are you just asking because the option is not in LR?
i ask because i have not seen any problem with LR thumbnails looking bad.
i set my standard preview size to 1440pixel and the previews look fine.
when i get my 30" TFT some day i will up the standard preview to 2048 pixel.

  • Aperture 3.3 auto enhance not working properly

I am having issues with auto enhance, having decided to go back and reprocess some older RAW files. It changes the picture which is currently being displayed, however although I can see it regenerating the thumbnail, the thumbnail stays the same as before. Then if I move through a few more pictures auto enhancing them, and return to the first one, the picture is back how it was before auto enhancing it (although all the effects settings say otherwise). If I auto enhance it again, I can see there are no changes to the effects settings, yet it replaces the picture with an auto-enhanced version again. But it never sticks. To summarise in case I am not being clear:
    Suppose I have pictures A, B and C:
Auto enhance A - appears to work, picture changes, effects settings change, thumbnail is regenerated incorrectly (still looks like before auto enhance)
Auto enhance B - appears to work, picture changes, effects settings change, thumbnail is regenerated incorrectly (still looks like before auto enhance)
Auto enhance C - appears to work, picture changes, effects settings change, thumbnail is regenerated incorrectly (still looks like before auto enhance)
Return to picture A - picture shown is prior to auto enhance, yet effects settings are from after auto enhance
Return to picture B - picture shown is prior to auto enhance, yet effects settings are from after auto enhance
    etcetera
    Things I have tried:
    Revert to original, and reprocess
    Regenerate previews
    Regenerate thumbnails
    Repair database
    Rebuild database
    Remove plist file
    Nothing has made any difference.
If I use some other auto setting, e.g. auto curves, then everything works exactly as it should. Therefore, it does appear to be some sort of bug with auto enhance. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this. And I thought I would mention it just in case anyone is reprocessing a series of pictures and hasn't noticed that although the effects setting changes are sticking, the actual previews and thumbnails are not updating correctly.

I've just noticed that this behaviour is not consistent. It seems to be that some projects work but others do not, even when the RAW masters were from the same camera. i.e. either all photos in a project work, or none work.

  • Enhanced podcast photos don't show...only timeline

I created an enhanced podcast for the podcast I do...but it won't play on my new iPod.
It plays fine in iTunes...the photos change when it hits the chapter markers...but on the iPod all I see in the window is a timeline with little segments...representing the chapters. If I hit the forward and back arrows it jumps to the next chapter marker...and the name of the marker is shown...but no photos, just the timeline.
Anyone have any input on this? Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuold the thumbnails. This can take 3 or 4 goes to work

  • Getting Thumbnails from PDF

    Hello,
When we use Acrobat Professional to "Create PDF" using "From File" , Acrobat is internally creating the thumbnails for each page and storing these information in one of the layers. I would like to know how to extract those already generated Thumbnail images from PDF using ACrobat SDK.
    Questions:
    1. Is there any mechanism to achieve this using Acrobat SDK?
Performance is the criteria I am looking for as far as extracting the thumbnails are concerned. As Acrobat has already created the thumbnail data, I would like to reuse/get it which I feel would enhance the performance.
    2. I tried PdPage.CopyToClipbpoard() which would give a thumbnail image but its not matching the performance criteria. In this approach we are re-creating the thumbnails anyway which I would not prefer.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Praveen

Your first statement is incorrect.  Acrobat hasn't generated embedded thumbnails of pages since version 6.
You mention, CopyToClipboard(), which implies to me that you are trying to do this through the COM interfaces - those are going to be slower than working with the plugin interfaces, but plugins require C/C++.  If you do stick with COM, then you should look at the drawing interfaces used by the Static and Active samples in the SDK - those will be much faster than copy to clipboard.

  • CMIS Connector Thumbnails Not Shown In Bridge

    Dear Sir/Madam,
We have a CMIS interface to our database and are using it with Adobe Drive 4. The Bridge does not show thumbnails for the assets in the database. I have tried connecting to a different CMIS repository (Alfresco's) and thumbnails are not shown there either.
Can the bridge show thumbnails of assets accessed via the CMIS connector? If not could it be enhanced to do so? We support the cmis:thumbnail rendition (and a few others) that could be used.
    Kind regards,
    Ian

    Hi,
    Can you please try:
    1. Install the latest Bridge build by installing latest Photoshop build
    2. Remove the folder /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache
    3. Launch Bridge and purge cache of the MOV files.
Please tell me whether the issue is still there.
    Thanks!
    Best Regards,

  • Grouping similar movies under one thumbnail

    Hi,
I've bought a few movies from iTunes that are part of a series, like Star Trek, Die Hard, etc.
I want to group such moves together so that (for example), all the Star Treks appear together under one thumbnail - like episodes are grouped in seasons in TV Shows.
In Get Info, I've named the Album and TV Show (in Video) Star Trek, called the Season " 1 " and given "episode" numbers to each movie.
When I view them in Cover Flow and List, they are grouped together under one "poster" (thumbnail), but if I view them in Grid they are all scattered about. As is the case when transferred to an iPod.
And how do I get the them to appear under one thumbnail on an iPod - like TV Seasons (without needing to class my movies as TV Seasons)?

    Hi,
Try to use BankID instead. I think by using this you can find the bank even though they use different spellings.
If bankID is not there then try to enhance that to the InfoObject.

  • Enhanced photos missing!

I imported, enhanced and titled a batch of photos. I attempted to upload them to a website. I brought up my photos from the Finder but ONLY the original, unenhanced, untitled photos exist (besides the thumbnails). In iPhoto, the photos in question are there! What gives?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Walabio:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you saying if you enhance a photo in iPhoto with the enhance tool the edit does not get saved and the modified photo file, when examined via the Finder and an image view, is the same as the original file?
I've used that tool on a couple of test shots and then examined both the original and modified files with Photoshop and the modified file definitely shows the enhancement. It's not dramatic but is represented by a general lightening of the image. I think the Adjust panel would do a better job but with a G3 it won't be available to you.
All I can suggest is the usual maintenance procedures, repair permissions, clean out user caches and run the cron maintenance scripts ( you can use OnyX for the cache and cron scripts).

  • A 'normal' thumbnail-image structure with Spry

    Hello.
I would like to ask the devolopers of Spry if it is possible
to implement, with Spry classes, a basic structure for the opening
of an image from a thumbnail. I examined your examples about the
photo gallery but I would like to perform a more simple behaviour.
Having a Spry-enhanced table like this:
    <tbody spry:repeatchildren="dsRisultatiRicerca"
    spry:choose="choose" >
    <tr spry:default="default"
    spry:setrow="dsRisultatiRicerca" spry:hover="rowHover"
    spry:select="rowSelected">
    <td align="center" width="119" height="119">
    <a href="#open"
    onclick="openImage('{MYIMAGE}');"><img src="{MYTHUMBNAIL}"
    border="0"></a>
    </td>
    <td>{CODE}</td>
    </tr>
    [etc...]
I would like that at the click upon MYTHUMBNAIL a 'modal' div
appeared with the same characteristics (in terms of borders, shape
transition and fade) of the example of your Photo Gallery.
The 'opened' image should be visualized in the center of the
screen and it should be possible to close the div with a button 'X'
    or similar.
I would thank you if you could provide some support on this
    matter.

    Hi Gowda,
According to your description, I understand that the meeting request contain picture will be auto increased when send to recipients.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
How about the internal or external mail flow with Outlook client?
It’s by default for external mail flow with outlook. Messages increase in size while in transit through the Internet beyond the actual sum of the size of text, graphics, pictures, and attachments.
Encoding of a message for transmission through the Internet leads to a size increase of approximately one-third.

  • Enhanced slideshows in iWeb

What exactly are "enhanced" slideshows (when using a .mac account)?
I am trying to figure out how to create the "reflection" effect I have seen on several iweb sites (with the black background).
    Thanks for the help.

In every iWeb template is a "Photos" page from which a slideshow can easily be created. The slideshow is displayed on a black background and each photo has a "reflection" effect - as you noticed. Here's what iWeb's Help says about it:
Drag photos to a Photos template. If you're adding more than a few photos, this method is an easy way to organize photos and include captions. The Photos templates also include a Start Slideshow button so that your visitors can view your photos as a slideshow.
To add photos and captions using a Photos template:
Click the Add Page button (shown above) or choose File > New Page.
In the template chooser, select a template in the list on the left, choose Photos from the thumbnails on the right, and then click Choose.
Drag photos (from the Finder or the Photos pane of the Media Browser) to the photo grid on the Photos page.
You can drag individual photos, multiple photos (by Shift-clicking or Command-clicking), or a whole album. As you drag over the template, a blue rectangle indicates the area of the photo grid. The first photo you add replaces all the placeholder photos on the page. The photo grid holds up to 99 photos.
Note: If you drag a photocast (a published album), the URL for the RSS feed is also added to the page.
To add a caption to a photo, click the placeholder text below a photo and type a caption.
You can change the number of columns and the height of captions using the Graphic Inspector.
