Tick Marks in Corner of Indesign Document

Hi,
I am making updates to an indesign document someone else created. There are two small tick marks in all 4 corners of the page (one vertical and one horizontal). The creater advised they were bleed marks. However, I looked in the Document Setup and found that the bleed/slug are both set at 0pt. I have done a lot of research and digging online without success. I also tried to look at the margins/guides, etc and did have much luck. Do you know what could be causing this? I would really like to remove them.
Thank you!

Please see the screenshot. The lines are in all 4 corners.  Thanks!

  • How to Mark an InDesign Document with an "Indelible Watermark"

    For CS5 and ActionScript:
I want to mark an InDesign document I've creating via scripting in such a way that an end user can not get rid of the marking (e.g., when distributing my extension as a trial version). Ideally, I'd want "Trial Version" splashed across each page "indelibly".
    How can this be done?
    TIA,
    mlavie

    Hi,
    Try using watermark document preference:
    app.activeDocument.watermarkPreferences;
There are some properties like text, font, style, rotatio, opacity...
    Hope that helps.

  • Tick mark in Appleworks documents

Does anyone know how to put a tick mark into either a word processing document or a spread sheet box? I might be being dim here, but I can't find a tcik sign anywhere! (I mean like when you tick a box!)
    Thanks

In addition to the option-v to produce a check mark (or a root sign) (√), AppleWorks does provide a 'live' checkbox as a paragraph label (a bullet is a 'paragraph ;abel' as well).
Type your list, one item to a line. When the list is finished, select all of the items, then go Format > Paragraph... (or double click the white rectangle between the 'line spacing' buttons on the Ruler).
In the formatting dialogue, use the Labels pulldown menu to set the paragraph labels to Checkbox.
The checkboxes are live, and clicking them will toggle between an empty box and one with a (red) checkmark in it. The biggest problem with the checkboxes is that they are too small—about 3/4 the height of a lower case o.

  • DropDownList with Tick Mark

    Hello friends,
I want to implement DropDownList with tickmark.
snapshot of dropdownlist with tick mark is shown below
If user selects perticular item in the dropdown list it will be Highlighted by tickmark ,is their any way to implement this by using indesign SDk ?
If Anybody knows the solution , please help me.
    Best Regards
         Tahir

    hi amruta,
The soluti as an image into on to your problem can be to use the symbol icon as told , but this may show in preview not in print.
I too faced the same problem.
So what i had done is created a new window with the diemnsions of the chekc box with border thcikness 8 tw and inside that window place a checkmark symbol.
if this checkmark symbol also does not show up in print preview/  doesshow in print preview and not in print then you can scan a chekcmark image and upload it into business document server as a BMP/ TIFF image and use this image in your checkbox window.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • GR based IV tick mark in PO- not able to post MIRO

we are working for a indian client with CIN. most of the PO's which is created in SAP system with all Excise parameters and applicable taxes. further all PO's created with GR based IV check box enabled.
now the issue is, in some of the purchases vendor is not applicable for excise, so there is no excise parameters in the PO, only tax is applicable. for this case we have not maintained vendor excise details in J1ID. but we have maintained material chapter id and CENVAT determination in J1ID. but as i mentioed earlier these PO's also with GR based IV check box enabled.
If the PO is not excisable no Excise capturing and posting is required, for these types of PO's we are following the below steps
    1. Creation of PO with GR based IV check box enabled
    2. Goods Receipt without excise capturing
    3. Invoice verification - MIRO ( here system is not able to post the docuement because of GR based IV tick mark)
    waiting for the response

    hi,
    thanks for the response
problem is MIRO is not posting whenever GR made with GR based IV tick in PO.
    i have checked three scenario
    scenario1.
    1. created PO with GR based IV, but there is no Excise or Tax captured in PO ( means no FV11 created)
    2. Created MIGO ( no excise parameter will appear)
    3. MIRO done with respect to MIGO
    this scenario is fine
    Scenario 2 - current scenario
    1. Created PO with GR based IV, No excise is captured in PO but Tax (VAT captured with condition type JVRD) is captured   ( means no FV11 created for VAT only)
    2. Created MIGO ( no excise parameter will appear)
    3. while doing MIRO for this scenario system is not able to post the MIRO because of the VAT in PO and GR based IV tick mark.
    Scenario 3
    1. Created PO without GR based IV, No excise is captured in PO but Tax (VAT captured with condition type JVRD) is captured   ( means no FV11 created for VAT only)
    2. Created MIGO ( no excise parameter will appear)
    3. MIRO system is picking from PO based IV. so, it is allowing to post
need your expert advice on scenario 2 - how to post MIRO

  • How to create a link to a dropbox file in an InDesign document?

I have an InDesign document where I have successfully inserted links to a homepage, but I would also link a file which I keep in my Dropbox. I.e. when people click on the icon/text in the InDesign document, I would like them to be taken to the download page in Dropbox.
Simply marking the text and >add new hyperlink and copying the download link into the appropriate field hasn't worked so far.
Thanks a lot for any help!
    Best,
    Marvis

I just typed my email address in InDesign, and chose Create Hyperlink from the Hyperlink panel menu. Chose Email Address as the type. Added a Subject Line. It shows the email link in the hyperlink list.
Exported the same way. Works fine in Acrobat. Clicking launches my email application:

  • How to map the elements in Indesign document with the PDF elements

I wanted to know any way of mapping elements in the InDesign document with the elements in the exported PDF document from the same InDesign document.
E.g If I have an Image X in InDesign document, Can I point out the same element in exported PDF using some mapping?
    Thanks in advance
    -Sandeep

What is meant by me is, if there is a Text element in InDesign document, I should able to point out the respective PDF object.
I am looking for some way to mark a specific InDesign element and once we export the document to PDF, I want to point out to the same element in some way so that I can process it.
Requirement is simple, one user will mark some elements in the InDesign document and export it to PDF and send it to the other user. Other user will parse the PDF and extract the same element back or process it and use it.

  • How do I get a Euro into my InDesign document?

I need to know how to insert a euro symbol into my Indesign document.
I have looked at other posts and the suggestion of holding down the Alt key with 0128 doesn't work for me.
Does anyone have any other suggestions please?
    I am based in England.
    Thanks

Hey, I'm from Ireland and the Euro symbol is a pita.
The keyboard comes fitted with an Alt Gr + 4 (the right alt key and the number 4 on the top row) but that does not translate well across RIPs and often come out as question marks or blank squares.
Please use the Euro Font that is available for free http://www.adobe.com/type/eurofont.html
Usually I will use a symbol I don't usually use in the document (being in Ireland I don't need the £ symbol at all), so I use that symbol but in the Euro Font, available in 3 different flavours with different weights.
So pick a symbol you won't use and then apply the Euro font.
I have a nested style for Euro symbols that applies it as a character style. And with CS4 it should be possible to use a GREP STYLE to apply the Euro font to anywhere you need the Euro symbol to show up.
It's really the best option as it's a font and it's a character of a font and it won't drop out of the RIP.
(Suggestions for alt characters to use could be ¬ or $ or ~ or #, for example. That way if you need to find $ or £ you still can without finding all the Euro Symbols too)

  • How do I set up an InDesign document in another language?

I have laid out an InDesign document in English. It will be very easy for me to copy/paste my translated text for Spanish since my fonts include the accents, etc. for Spanish. But, how do I do it for a language that uses cyrillic (or other) characters instead of normal letters? I will be given the text in Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Tagalog, and Korean in a Word document. Will I need to purchase special fonts for these languages? I'm assuming that if my English InDesign file is using Helvetica Neue Lt Std, that a copy/paste will not work when I'm pasting Russian text. If I will need special fonts, can you recommend some for these languages (for PC; opentype or postscript)? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I can answer all of your questions, but I'm feeling like you ought to be answer some of them yourself in order to be able to demonstrate yourself competent of typesetting these languages in the first place. For instance: a brief visit to Wikipedia will reveal that Tagalog is typeset in Latin script. Just make sure that it's not marked as English, and that hyphenation is off, and you should be okay with whatever English-language fonts were originally selected for the project. This is partially because Tagalog typographical rules are not as stringent as English rules are, and many of the rules tend to hew to US English standards in any case.
However, that cannot be said for Russian at all. Russian typographical rules are more stringent than English rules. They don't have the pick-your-own-style-guide problem that English has. Ever watched people argue over the Oxford comma? Much less likely to have that kind of dispute in Russian. But since you don't know the rules, you won't know when you're breaking them.
Russian and Vietnamese are both supported by comparatively narrow arrays of fonts. There's a Russian foundry called Paratype that will have a very wide array of Cyrillic cuts of familar fonts. Vietnamese is harder to find. The advice from Ellis is good. I'd also point out that any Adobe "Pro" font stands a good chance of having Russian and/or Vietnamese. I am pretty regular user of Myriad Pro and Hypatia Sans Pro (with all of the extra typographical doodads turned off).
Chinese and Korean are so different that there isn't even very much hope that you can go out and find a font and do it yourself. Fonts for both languages are incredibly expensive. The free fonts that came with your OS might be okay; the ones that came for free with InDesign are also good. But in neither case should you expect a full set of weights, or any italics whatsoever. (Also: don't fake an oblique by adding skew; it looks about eight thousand times worse in Chinese than it does in English.)
I would strongly advise that you have all of your documents proofed by the translators. For Korean, it'd almost be mandatory; your formatting job stands a decent chance of being Worse Than Useless. (About ten percent of the Korean I handle in InDesign fails to wrap at spaces and breaks in the middle of words.) If there is any chance that you can job this out to a pro, I'd suggest that you take it. It'd be far better for your non-English-language readership if you as a designer critique the typically sub-par design job offered by your translation firm's DTP department than you, as a designer, render the translated text poorly and not have an in-language reader tell you where you've botched it. In the first case, it's probably ugly, but in the second case, it's maybe illegible.

  • I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf. how do I do that?

I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf, how do I do that?

InCopy is a solution, but it's not the only viable solution.
I update many books, from 200 pages to 3,200 pages every year, long document, very techincal tax books.
Some are done through InCopy, some are edited word files and rtfs exported from InDesign, some are marked up hard copies etc.
It totally depends on the clients technical ability with computers. Last year I taught over 30 authors of ours how to use InCopy. Some were receptive, some were dubious, some were totally clueless.
And on the dubious and totally clueless I spent more time troubleshooting their problems than I would normally with a Word/RTF option.
Some people are capable of switching to InCopy or even know how to use it in the first place. For anyone never used InDesign or InCopy before then it's a massive learning curve to jump from MS Word et al word processors, to InCopy.
I do agree, it is the best solution that's out there, technically. But that solution is not usable by a lot of people.
Yeh if the client is comfortable with InCopy then it's the way forward.
But in most cases, in my experience, it's faster and more efficient to Export the text as RTF and let the author update the RTF. That leaves you in control of reinserting the text and formatting it correctly. Rather than letting the client add bold, underline, italics, superscript, subscripts, crazy workarounds because they didn't know how to do it properly. And in the end you end up with 2 or 3 times the amount of work than is necessary, just cleaning up what the client has done in InCopy that does not suit the overall formatting of the publications.

  • How can one resize a inDesign Document Window without moving Document's position?

I've searched high and low for an answer to this habit that inDesign has. Am I the only one that finds this annoying?
You go to adjust the size of your document window to move it out of the way to get to something else on your desktop, and instead of keeping the document in place and just resizing the window, it moves the document with the resize. Not sure if I'm putting this in a way that people can understand me. Say I have two inDesign files open side by side and I zoom in on an area and adjust my view of the page. Then I go to the other inDesign document and adjust the view by grabbing the bottom right hand corner of the window and moving it to where I want it. The whole document then moves with it! I desire it not to, so now I have to waste time by using the hand tool to move it back into place. Illustrator doesn't act like this. Photoshop doesn't act like this. Only inDesign. Does this harken back to the PageMaker days? Am I missing a preference somewhere I need to change? Or is it just the way of things and I'm stuck with it?
Currently using inDesign CS5 and CS6 on a Mac in OS 10.6.8

    Hi,
The simplest would be to set the application preferences in the script.
    Like this :
    -- *** set prefs ****
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
          activate
          set oldPrefs to its preferences
          copy oldPrefs to tPrefs
          tell tPrefs
set old version warning to false --doesn't show the old version warning alert
set converted file suffix to true -- append “[v6.0]” to documents converted from older formats
set locked file warning to false
set paint reduction warning to false
          end tell
          set preferences to tPrefs
    end tell
    -- *** end set prefs ****
    --**** your script, example ***
set tfiles to choose file with multiple selections allowed
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
          repeat with i in tfiles
                open i
                tell front document
                      -- do something
                end tell
          end repeat
    end tell
    --**** end  your script ***
    -- *** reset prefs ****
tell application "AppleWorks 6" to set preferences to oldPrefs

  • Displaying 4 as tick mark in pdf in mozilla firefox 20.0

I am displaying a pdf in aspx page. In mozilla firefox 20.0, instead of tickmark , 4 is displaying. i.e. when a radiobutton is selected, instead of Tick mark pdf is getting displayed with 4. i am not facing this issue with older mozilla firefox version like 16.0. what is solution or fix for this?

hello, firefox 19 has introduced its own integrated pdf viewer - if you want to switch back to the plugin you've used before to view pdfs just go to firefox > options > applications & scroll down and define the default action for the '''portable document format (pdf)'''.

  • MS Word 2007 table lines have interesction tick marks

    Hello,
    MS Word 2007 SP2
    Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0 Plus
A table created in Word, where row lines are shown but not column lines, shows on some lines tick-marks where row and colums would intersect. In AA version 7 this was not an issue, however, when converting from within Word this too was an issue.
The image below didn't turn out as clear here than the original, but you still can see the Word bit left and AA on the right with the tick-marks.
    How can it be avoided?
    Thank you
    Stefan

I'm experiencing this myself. I found instructions to navigate to Edit > Preferences > Page Display. Then, uncheck 'Enhance Thin Lines'. This lightens the lines considerably; reducing the very dark, chunky lines. However, table lines are still not the same width/thickness regardless of the zoom level in Acrobat (50% - 800%). And there is no pattern to where thicker lines appear; header rows, odd rows, etc. A random mess. I'm 100% positive the lines are set properly in Word 2007. And interestingly, all tables lines display equal widths consistently in printed copy- when printing from the PDF. The issue seems to be Adobe's electronic page display and that the 'solution' I found does not work. I have the latest version of Acrobat Pro and a colleague has the latest version of the Reader without a writer license-- no conflict of versions or software suite.
I deliver documentation to customers electronically. My documents have many tables. My deliverables to look unprofessional and unpolished. My deadlines haven't been met due to research and this unresolved issue. Difficult to accept.
    So frustrated!  Please help!

  • Make Data Merge import certain page of pdf or indesign document

I don't know if it is possible but can you make Data Merge import certain page of pdf or indesign document, this would be great addition for indesign

Here are a couple of questions that might help understand what might need to be done to achieve your request:
    * How do you propose to identify the desired page(s) within a PDF and an ID document, so the merge field placeholder knows how to find it?
    * How do you propose to keep track of the page if they're re-ordered in an updated document?
    * What if the identification marker is within text and flows to a different page - would you want to retrieve the original page (before the reflow) or the new page to which the marker would have flowed?
Perhaps the scripters could comment on the possibility of scripting these.

  • Is it possible to display a TickLabel on minor tick marks?

I am trying to figure out whether it is possible to display a label on minor tick marks in a LineChart. I can't immediately gleam from the NumberAxis > ValueAxis > Axis javadoc how / if this could be possible to do. Tried experimenting a bit with making my own custom Axis class seeing if anything would pop when I started overriding methods, but no, not really.
The issue I'm trying to solve is having the minor tick marks labeled on the chart when it is zoomed in. Currently, if I zoom in on a region contained between two major tick marks, there will be no axis labels at all (except the bottom left corner), which is unacceptable. I need to be able to label those minor ticks at some level of zoom to make the chart more readable.
If anybody have any ideas on how to proceed with this problem, greatly appreciated.

Bump. Is there any resolution for this issue?
