Time altered clips running out of control

I have been encountering a problem where clips are changing their own speed. I took my original clip and sliced it into smaller segments, which were set to 75% speed. Theses clips seem to at randomly increase their speed and play through the entire original clip in the space of the new sliced segment. Anyone ever seen this, and know of a way to fix it?
I have already trashed both my renders and preferences and it didn't help.
Thanks.

FCP's Speed functions remain a major flaw, unresolved after 5 revs. You cna search the forum for variable speed and speed adjust. You will find many hours worth of interesting reading. The problems are caused by many things and the possible solutions are far too numerous for us to start guessing for you.
But, this stupid workaround will help: Bring your clips into a new sequence, cur them up, change the speeds, render them. Go find the renders (or export them to a place where you can easily find them) and import the rendered movies as new clips. If you need to make adjustments to the timing, you must go back and repeat the process. You can do the roughs at reduced render quality until you have the timing nailed.
There are other ways to beat the limitations and flaws in FCP's lame speed paradigm. I hope others will add some additional comments or discredit mine.

  • Time Machine keeps running out of space

This is really annoying. Starting about 2-3 months ago, my Time Machine suddenly keeps running out of space. I have a MacBook Pro bought in 2009 summer with 500 GB Hard Drive. My Time Machine drive is als 500 GB. I currently have 117 GB left in my MacBook's hard drive, and 65 GB left in my Time Machine's drive.
As of this moment my Time Machine only have 1 backup that was done Yesterday. It's trying to create a new backup, but can't because apparently it needs 69 GB while I only have 65 GB.
Why does it need 69 GB? I can't imagine a reason why. I haven't downloaded anything more than 1 GB, if even that much, most likely not, and all I do on this MacBook is pretty much browsing. In any case, it's hard to imagine there's a 69 GB data change between yesterday and today. That's a lot of data by any standard.
    Thanks for any help!

If your internal disk is 500GB with 117GB free then you are using 383GB
and your Time Machine disk is too small. It is recommended that your
Time Machine disk is 2 to 3 times bigger than the data you are backing up.
There are also some tools you can get that will display details from the
logs to show you what is being backed up, it may be worth getting one of
those to determine why the backup is so big. I think the first thing you
should do is get a bigger disk.

  • Prepaid cell phone suggestion.... time that never runs out.

when I pay for air time for the phone, it should not run out. if it takes me 2 months or 12 months to use up the time it should not matter. it's MY time, I paid for it. I should not have to spend more money to keep the phone running if it has time on it still.
money is tight, I put 15 bucks a month on the phone only to keep it active... but never use all the time up each month. but im forced to add 15 bucks each month to prevent the phone from being shut off. this is not right in my view. if I buy airtime, I should be able to use it all before the phone is shut off. I paid for it.

I pay monthly to use 700 minutes, and I NEVER use that many. Why should I have to keep paying each month if I don't use the minutes? Shouldn't I be able to start paying my monthly bill again when I use up all my minutes?
Sounds silly from someone else, doesn't it? Because it's a silly idea. You pay for a service, whether you prepay or postpay - it's the same service.

  • HT201210 Iphone 4 goes into recovery mode every time the battery runs out?

Iphone keeps returning to recovery mode when the battery runs out and is charged up again. I have updated the software and it still requires a system restore everytime the battery dies, does anyone have an information to help resolve this issue?

That's what I did. When selected restore, it downloaded and verified the installer, and then threw the error that the phone is in recovery mode instead of proceeding with the restore. I then tell it a second time to restore and it proceeds to restore; but I never get the message that the 4 has successfully unlocked.

  • Time Machine keeps running out of storage space

I am using about 120 gigs on my 320gig macbook pro. I have a 250 g external HD plugged into my Airport Extreme with about 220 gigs dedicated to time machine. It will work for about three or four days, then it all of the sudden runs out of room.
I just went into the time machine application and it only has two save points now. It deleted everything else to make room for yesterday's backup. The weird thing is my finder window (in time machine) only says there are 19gigs available on my HD for yesterday's restore point. However, I have 199 gigs available on the next restore point. Coincidentally, I do have 19 gigs available on the external HD that the time machine file is stored.
My time Machine file size is currently 210gigs on my external drive, even though I am only using about 120 gigs total on the computer.
Additional info - I do have two profiles on the computer. One for me and one for my wife.

Most likely, you're using an app or feature that's causing unusually large backups. See #D4 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for some common culprits, and ways to find out exactly what's going on.

  • G5 Fans Run Out-of-Control in Target Disc Mode - Help?

Trying to use a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 (OS 10.5.8) with 7GB DDR SDRAM as a target disk. Host is 400Mhz PowerPC G3 (OS 9.2.1) with 320GB RAM.
I'm trying to move ~25GB of data from the G3 to the G5. G5 has roughly 600 GB available space.
G5 goes into TD Mode no problem through SystemPrefs>StartupDisk>TargetDiskMode and restart. Everything was fine while I checked the folder I wanted to move. The fan(s) started to kick on a little bit just before I dragged and dropped it onto the target G5 folder, then as the data started to transfer they all kicked on and started running faster and faster and faster until the G5 sounded like it was going to blow up. Just ridiculous. I stopped the transfer, ejected the G5 disk, and shut the G5 down.
Anyone have an idea what's causing this and how to remedy it?
    Thank you.
**Note: After the fact I noticed that (because of a power outage) the transfer folder had a "Created" date of 2011, and a "Modified" date of 1904 (or something like that). I've since corrected the date/time issue on the G3 and modified the folder so it has the correct date. Would this cause the problem?**

Apparently this is normal since the target disk is functioning as an external disk, not a computer, and not under the control of the target disk OS, which normally runs the fans:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/2025856#2025856
It's kind of a default protection mode.
Since the post linked above is from 2006, can anyone confirm this is still cool (unintentional pun)?
Still sounds really bad, by my estimate...
    Thanks.

  • CF 7.02 : jrun running out of control solutions anyone?

we’re running ColdFusion 7.02 on a Windows 2003 production server(IIS 6) that appears to have a memory leak or coding issues or both. The jrun.exe will run up to 1.2 gig of usage and higher in task manager. Somewhere above 900mg of usage the CF processes will lock up causing us to have to stop jrun and let it restart or in some cases, reboot the server. Obviously, this plays havoc with our CF applications and pages.  In addition, we have also located what appears to be coding errors in the CF application logs. some examples are, ‘dividing by zero’, ‘items undefined’, ‘access page timers being exceeded’.  As we are not CF programmers on our side of the issue  we don’t always know what effect these errors have on the processes on the server. The logs have been forwarded to our application support/programming section and it appears some corrections have been made and are continuing to be made.  On Monday,7/18, we were required to restart jrun approx 14 times throughout the day and evening on this server. This slowed through the rest of the week up to this point with some specific times when it had to be restarted at approx 3-4 hundred meg, instead of 900mg to 1.2 gig.
Update: many coding errors have been repaired over the last week and the high number of restarts has dropped but still present. On the ColdFusion side we have applied a hotfix 65335 which is suggested to work with the way jrun releases memory with file uploads. This didn’t appear to make any difference when applied but we suspect there is a problem with the path it was applied to. We are correcting that today.
I have also looked at one of the CF updater files to try but in the past applying one of these may have fixed one error but created others.
We are looking at the JVM version because I have seen in some of the blogs where there are a couple of less beneficial  versions and an upgrade can help. we’re at 1.4.2_09 but I’ve read where _13 or _19 would be better.
We are in the process of testing applications in the CF 8.0 region that is setup (and making it a priority)but this won’t happen overnight. May take several weeks.
Please, anyone who has seen similar errors with jrun in a 7.02 environment, can you offer some quick fix solutions, or even not-so-quick?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Check CF java logs around the time frame just before CF become unresponsive. CFMX7\runtime\logs\OUT and EVENT log.
Perhaps JVM settings would be interesting?

  • BPM Timer Object - Process sticks at timer after duration runs out

We have a process that is using a timer as part of the logic, but we had a strange issue where the process got stuck on the timer for 10 hours (it should have been 1 minute). The context values seem fine for the timer. This has only happened once. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen? Server issue? We are running 7.31 SP05.

SAP will take some time to reply. We can try out different things till then.
Is it possible for you to re-deploy the BPM DC and check again?
Where is this timer placed exactly? Does it have anything else running in parallel? Would be great if you can post your process design here so that we can look into it.

  • System Process Running out of Control - Overheating!

The other day I arrived home and went to check my e mail and found my computer running at full tilt with the fans going all out and the case quite hot.  I thought maybe I had left dashboard open all day as I have done this before with similar results, but this was not the case.
I quit all programs and re started and the computer started to run at close to full process.
I ran software update and installed the RAW and system update that was available, re started still there.  I ran disk utility to check/repair permissions until they were good.
I ran the onyx cleaning set of stuff that clears cashes and histories.
When looking at the process monitor it shows the processor running at close to 3/4 but even with programs open in the background it shows them using little to none as expected with the process monitor on top of the list using some processor, but the little color chart below that shows process separated by programs and system show the system process running quite high.
Lastly I noted that when I restart and then let the computer sit for a few minutes at the log in screen  the system must be running hard again because the fans come on.  I do not know what is causing this or what next step I should take to remediate it, please help!
    Jerome

Hi, C Jerome. If your Powerbook were actually overheating, it would put itself to sleep, so you needn't worry that it's in danger of damaging itself. I can understand your interest in calming and quieting it, though.
First, how full is your hard drive? At least 10% of its capacity or 5GB, whichever is larger, should be free at all times. If you get down to much less than that, the processor and hard drive must work very hard cycling data in and out of virtual memory, and you run a substantial risk of system crashes, hard drive directory corruption and consequent loss of data.
Do you have disk indexing turned on? Indexing your drive is only useful if you use Find By Content searches (I'm not sure that's what Spotlight calls them, because I don't use Tiger). Indexing can consume an enormous amount of processor cycles and generate a lot of heat, in addition to taking up a significant amount of hard drive space. If you don't need it, turn it off.

  • Fans running out of control

Have had my PowerMac G5 for just over a year. Rebooted yesterday and the fans started running full out and haven't stopped since.
Here are somethings that I have tried:
    Reset PRAM
Press Power Manager Button on the logic board
    Ran Applejack
    Repaired permissions
    Unplugged computer
    Ran HW test
    Deleted Energy Saver Preferences
    Playe with Energy Saver Preferences
Run 'top' and confirmed that no processses are running wild
    All to no benefit.
I now have a shareware utility installed called "Hardware Monitor" which reports:
    CPU A Die Temp is 104 F
    CPU B Die Temp is 84 F
    Drive Bay: 77 F
    Logic Board Inlet: 72
    Logic Board Ambient: 74
    Logic Board Backside: 84 F
    Memory Controler Heatsink: 106 F
    Processor Card A Ambient: 86 F
    Processor Card B Ambient: 86 F
I have not used this utility before so I don't know whether these readings are in the normal range.
Otherwise the machine is operating normally. But I guess I am sensative to noise as I am unable to think clearly with the rush of the fans.
Anyone have anything further I should try?
I am covered by Apple Care I believe but really need the machine to get work done and don't want to have to take it in for repair if I can help it...
I have to suspect that it is a problem with a sensor at this point or some other hardware problem.

OK so I tried a couple more things outline above:
booted from OSX install CD (fans still racing)
    ran Disk Repair from CD
    ran Permissions Repair from CD
unplugged all cables except mouse and keyboard
let it 30 minutes unplugged and then reset mother board power button
    All with no improvement.
When I pull the clear panel from the side the red light goes on inside the case, when I put it back the red light goes out, so I don't think that particular sensor is broken. The fan speed does not change discernably.
Still wondering if anyone has any temperature data I can compare to mine. There's a 20 F degree difference between my two processors for instance. Anyone else have anything like that?

  • Time might be running out to exchange defective units....

If Apple does make an announcement (some have been told by Apple Store staff they will soon) then what happens? Which would be easier for Apple to manage a mail in exchange program or an in store exchange?
I imagine they will extend past the 14 day grace period for exchanges, but they will probably require units to be mailed in to honor this. Also, if they end up doing a retail recall of 37 units then there is going to be a shortage as right now there seems to be more week 37 units in stock than anything else (imagine that
The window for being able to just walk into an Apple Store with deflective 37 and walk out with a newer 38 model in hand may be closing quickly.
    -Jeremy
Test to see if your iPod Touch screen has problems:
    http://jdeats76.bravehost.com/iBadScreen.htm

What I mean is that we really don't know what the distribution channel is from the point the units leave the factory in China until they arrive at retail stores. The fact that Apple Stores are still receiving week 37 units from the warehouse tells me that they are depending on this supply to help meet demand and that the week 38 and 39 models may take some time to make there way in.
Speaking only for my local Apple Store I saw the clerk sort through about seven week 37 models and he only had two week 38 units. These were all new arrivals as they did not have any in stock two days ago. So if a recall came tomorrow and they had to send back all week 37 units they would likely go from having the units in stock to a sold out until new shipment arrived, so that's what I mean.

  • Stock A64 fan running out of control -- K8N Neo2.

I'm runinng a 3500 venice with stock fan and heatsink, which is running a 4800 idle (35c) and going up to 6000 while gaming (45c). Is this normal for this fan? cool n quiet and smart fan target are both disabled in bios.

I'm getting the readings from both bios and windows (sandra, EVEREST, and speed fan). And all show the same reading. I can also tell by the sound of the fan, compared to when it's running at 3300. I also checked the pin connections in bios, and they're correct. When I booted up a few minutes ago, it was running at 3300. But has been gradually climbing, and is currently at 4300.
I understand that I can decrease the speed using a 3rd party program, but this is a new build and I shouldln't need to use a 3rd party program to get normal fan function. I'm trying to establish if this is normal, or if there's a problem with either the fan or motherboard. thanks again.

  • Time machine has run out of space

I was under the impression that old back ups were replaced by new one? Why then am I getting a no more space message? What can I do?? I have done some searching but really can't find anything that gives me a solid solution. Thanks in advance.

    Please tell us:
    - is this an error message or the normal warning that Time Machine needs to delete backups?
    - amount of used space on the drive you are backing up?
    - size of the drive you have allocated to Time Machine?
    - how long have you been using Time Machine?
    - what messages does the console log (search for backupd process) give?

  • How do I expand the storage of a time capsule that has run out of space?

In supporting the three Macs in our family, our little 1Tb Time Capsule has run out of space and now does not backup any of our Macs.  No surprise since the total storage of our Macs is 2.25 Tb.  So ... can I just add a large external hard drive to my Time Capsule and point, say, 2 of my Macs to it with Time Machine and everything will be good again?
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Dean

    Several options.......
Simplest and least expensive.....erase the Time Capsule disk and start over with new backups from all the Macs. Few of us ever go back more than a few days to a week or so to pick up a file that was accidentally deleted or somthing similar....but I understand that some users find it difficult to part with the old backups, even if they will never use them.
Yes, there is the very tiny chance that if you erase the Time Capsule and a Mac fails before you can back it up later today.
Cost of a new hard drive......add a USB drive to the Time Capsule and point each Mac there to continue backups. The downside.....Time Machine will make a new complete backup for each Mac first, and then run incremental backups.  The upside....you keep your "old" backups on the Time Capsule if you cannot part with them.
Painfully slow and not worth the effort......manually delete old backups from Time Machine to create more space on the Time Capsule for new backups. This will take weeks in terms of time, and the Time Capsule will soon be full again, ao you have to repeat the process again in the near future.

  • Yosemite memory out of control?

Upgraded to Yosemite on MacBook Pro -- memory of kernel_task runs out of control (>6GB) in approx 48 hours after using -- initially did a clean install of Yosemite, and only loaded apps that are needed.
Etrecheck reports the following with many process having to be killed due to me pressure.
Any ideas what is triggering the men usage and eventual swap to death of the Retina?
kernel_task is at 6.8GB RAM although etrecheck doesn't report it, 1.1 GB of swap according to iStat in addition
Huge number of Page Outs -- faulty memory chips perhaps?

One of the above kernel extensions is running wild.  All of these, when loaded are part of kernel_task.
With 16GB or RAM, your kernel_task should be hovering around 1GB (plus or minus).  My 16GB Macbook Pro has a 1.25GB kernel_task.
You can experiment by booting into Safe Mode, which will not load any of the 3rd party additions, and you can see if your kernel_task remains stable
