Time capsule not being recognized by network,  Airport working fine.

Time capsule is not being recognized by network.  Tried unplugging and restarting, but no go.  Airport is working fine and network is up and running.

Try just doing a reset to the TC..
An upgrade to lion might just put you into the fire.. even the frying pan is better.
I would suggest you downgrade the firmware on the TC to 7.5.2 as later firmware is more buggy and adds nothing for OS earlier than Lion.. on the contrary it causes more issues.
This will not harm your existing backups.
Are the two computers both connected by ethernet?? Is the connection issue over wireless?
Give a bit more info on the network layout. Mode of the TC.. are any computers using ethernet?

  • Time capsule not being recognized by time machine on macbook

Hi, This is my first post.  I have an imac, macbook, iphones ipods, and a time capsule
when i installed the time capsule it worked fine on both computers then after an update the macbook no longer recognizes the time capsule in airport so it can not back up to it in time machine.  The time capsule data drive can be accessed from that computer and the internet works fine, it is just not showing up in airport.
    Any ideas???
If I upgraded to lion would that fix it?

I was having this problem while still using Mavericks -- it started after a Mavericks update last spring.  During the initial Yosemite beta runs over the summer, it seemed to be fixed, but after the official launch in October, I had all sorts of problems keeping connected.  Its gotten a little better, but still happens to at least one of my devices every day.  Weird that we still cannot figure out why the connection keeps dropping on some devices, but not others, and then the next day, one of the devices that didn't disconnect the previous day will disconnect, but the ones that did disconnect, stay connected.  It's just sloppy, poorly written software for technology that isn't working the way it should.  If you turn off Continuity and Handoff on all your devices, you will probably see that everything stays connected.  With those turned off on all devices, TC stayed connected to everything for over a month.  The day I turned Continuity back on, all the problems started again.  It had something to do with the bluetooth version being used, the wifi routine, and Apple's AirPlay technology not quite getting along with each other.

  • How to resolve Time capsule not being seen in Airport utility?

My Time Capsule cannot be recognized by Airport utility.  I have already tried the soft reset option, but still no luck.
Trying not to do a hard reset, b/c I would prefer not loosing all of the information on the hard drive.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Any type of reset....soft, hard, or Factory Default.....will NOT touch the data on the Time Capsule drive.
You have to perform a completely separate Erase operation if you want to wipe the drive clean.
If you have not already done so, try connecting an Ethernet cable directly from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule. Power down both the Mac and Time Capsule and restart.  See if that helps AirPort Utility "see" the Time Capsule.
If not, then you will need to perform a Hard Reset or Factory Default Reset and start over again. You can use the same device name and passwords that you used before if you wish.

  • Time Capsule Not Visible In Finder Or Airport Utility

I recently purchased last week a 15" mac book pro and a 2 tb time capsule. This is my first mac and first experience with time capsule.I am running Lion. Ever since initial setup and a few calls to apple care the time capsule does not show up in finder or airport utility at times, sometimes it just re appears for a short while then disappears again. Apple care has had me hook directly up via cable to the capsule to switch channels thinking I was getting interference and also had me reset the keychain. I am still having the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or does anyone have a suggestion to fix this problem? Thanks!

Is the time capsule the main router in the network? If not try and rearrange the network so it will be.
I am not sure that Lion is working very well with TC. There are too many issues popping up.

  • Time Capsule not visible on WiFi network

Tried to set up a new Time Capsule via the airport utility but it will not identify a Wifi Network to connect to (objective is to enlarge the network, rather than to establish a new network). There is already an older model of time capsule connected to the same router via WiFi to enlarge the network and it works well.
Is it  really the only solution to connect the time capsule to the router via Cable and establish the connection like that? (That would be exactly what we do not want - another cable) Multiple resets to factory settings did not solve the issue. Anyone there to help? Thanks

Connected by ethernet or by wireless?? What router is it connected to?
An apple router can only extend wireless of another apple router and only once.. ie you can have a main base and one repeater.. you cannot repeat twice.
You can use EOP (homeplug) adapters if ethernet is not suitable.

  • Time Capsule not connecting to wireless network

Just bought shiny new iMac with shiny new Time Capsule (500G) and i'm ready to launch the whole lot out the window!!!
Despite my very best efforts i'm unable to connect my TC to my wireless network. Every time I use Airport Utility the TC recognises the wireless network, proceeds to change the settings normally, the TC then restarts and the bloody amber light flashes and the iMac cannot find the TC. I then have to reset the TC so the iMac can find it and the whole process starts all over again. I apologise if this topic has come up before but i'm at my wits end!!

Well, things in Paris, France a wee bit brighter but not much.
I managed initially to use TC via Ethernet connection (for my initial Mac system safeguard) as TC did not recognise or was not recognised by my Airport WiFi home network.
Now, after various attempts and properly configuring TC to "join" my existing network all lights are green and config seems "A" OK.
On the hour, wirelessly, TC starts doing its bit showing: under the Time Machine box's "Backing up" sub title: "Preparing" with a running blue/white bar..
A couple of hours later TC system stops advising me there was a "wireless connection interruption".
This has been going on for a few days now and, as far as I know, never has my Orange's LiveBox WiFi, ADSL, Router Modem suffered any interruption of service.
    What to do or change??

  • Time Capsule not being recognised

I've recently had to turn time capsule off and unplug from my Mac. I attached it this morning, green light came on, tried to back up data but it keeps saying 'Your Time Machine Backup Disc Cannot Be Found'.
However, despite this, I can open up the time machines preferences / select disc / set up time capsule and see that it's on the left hand side of the screen with a green light.
I've tried re-setting with the small push in switch at the back and restarting my computer etc. but i'm having the same issue each time. Any ideas?

I would do a reset of the TC and make sure you are using ethernet..
If it still fails after a reset try with wireless.
If it is a gen 3 TC many are failing with issues on the board.. even if the Green LED is on, the connection is not working.. shut the TC down overnight to cool off and see if it can be detected when first turned on..
What OS on the computer?? Has it been updated lately?

  • AirPort Time Capsule not working.

Tried hard and factory reset but stays amber. It turns green for a second when it gets plugged in but turns amber again. Also, unplugged internet and time capsule to try and reset it but nothing changed.  It is not being recognized in my airport utility as a base station but it shows up as my time capsule in the airport utility with a yellow triangle and ! in it. When I open my time machine preferences it's not there.  Any other suggestions?

Solid amber means it is dead.. the hard disk is most likely cause but it can also be the power supply or combo of both..
The Gen2 TC is now well past useby date.. buy another one..
You can repair it but the cost is higher than the result is worth.. Gen2 used a WD black drive and they seem to crash out about now.. so it likely has a dead disk .. you can open it and remove the disk.. the TC will then work as an airport extreme Gen3.. and even the disk might test OK.. but your internal power supply no longer can power it.. if however when you start up you hear the disk noises of death.. well it is more likely ended its life.. !!

  • Time Capsule not connecting to internet properly

I have recently purchased a Time Capsule 2TB to replace a 4 year old Airport Extreme Base Station.
The Airport Extreme has been working perfectly fine in my wi-fi network, however, once I replaced it with the Time Capsule, the internet has not been working properly. Both the internet and time capsule will have 'green' light indicating they are working properly, but now when I visit certain websites, the connection will time out, not load etc whereas some sites work fine. This problem exist across all the devices I connect via wi-fi using the network created by TC.
When I changed it back to the airport extreme base station, everything works perfectly again.
I am not sure what the problem is and how to rectify it!
Is it something to do with the ethernet cable?
Is it to do with settings?
Is it a problem with the TC itself?
Thanks for any advice and suggestions!

What kind of broadband do you have?
What is the modem and how does the TC connect.. how did the AE connect??
Is the modem also a router?
Are you experiencing double NAT.. the TC should give a warning message.
Give a screen shot of the summary page on the AE when it is connected and one from the TC.
One thing.. if you have a cable modem.. did you power off the modem and power on again.. to release and renew the MAC address of the first connected device..
Sometimes you need to power off for 15min sometimes less.. sometimes more..

  • Help! new time capsule not setting up on 2nd computer

I recently got time capsule for my desktop and laptop. I was able to set it up on the laptop but it's not working on the desktop. It keeps asking me to go through the set up process all over again, even though it is telling me that time capsule is already all set up and working fine. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I presume you are running Mountain Lion and 6.2 utility.. we need to know that.
You should not need to setup the TC at all from second device.. it is setup and working on laptop.. that is enough.
On the desktop it should be accessible in the same way as the laptop.. same name same passwords etc.
If not, then fill us in on the whole network layout.
    Modem what kind.. what broadband.
    Is the Modem a router?
Is the TC plugged into the modem.. in bridge or router mode?
I guess the laptop is connected by wireless? Desktop is connected how?
Are you trying to get TM to work.
Mount the disk in finder if you can. Then you should be able to direct TM to use it.

  • Time Capsule set up and wifi network OK but MacBook doesn't see capsule as airport device.  Do I need to do a hard reset and start again?

I recently bought a Time Capsule and sucessfully set it up in accordance with the instruction book.  The home network and guest network seem to work fine but my MacBook cannot find the Time Capsule wirelessley.
Initially I set up the time capsule connected to the MacBook with an ethernet cable.  The Time Machine got 30GB way through a 60GB initial back up and then stopped for no obvious reason.  Since then the capsule has not been visible to the MacBook.  I have tried to reconfigure through Airport Utility but even after reperated rescans the capsule remains invisible.
Any help would be extremely welcome.

    1. i would restore the express to factory defaut by holding the reset button on the unit with a paperclip while you are powering it on
    2. if it restored, you should be able to see it in your wifi icon at top of screen as "airport express"
or you can see it in airport utility
    3. then if you want to connect it wirelessly to your time capsule, you would choose "extend network" and put in relevant security and password....this would make the express a wireless access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)
if you chose to do it wired which is a better way if you have access to ethernet port at wall, you would choose "create a wireless network" and then under the "network" tab you would choose "Bridge Mode".....this would make the express a wired access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)

  • Airport time capsule not found error message

    HI,
My time capsule is blinking orange.
I open aiport, sometimes airport finds the TC, sometimes not.
    When not, get message:
    "airport time capsule not found"
When TC is found, aiport utitily shows an error with the extended network I am setting up. I press 'edit', the settings all seem good. Re-type passwords etc and update.
    The problem remains.
I have updated the firmware. An apple shop near me has reset TC using the recessed button on back of TC, and then I have re-configured at home.
BTW, TC was working fine in my old house with same laptop, so prob not simply a basic user issue...
4 other devices on my wifi network all have reliable connection, visitors' phones and laptops too, so shouln't be a wifi netowrk issue, ie network outside TC.
    Any thoughts out there?
    HOpe so!
    mana

yes, running airport 6.1, OS 10.7.5
OK.. I failed to ask enough questions.. I think your comment it all used to work threw me.
    1. You are trying to extend wireless network of what router. This will only work with another Apple router.. the way apple built it is in the family only. So please spell out what is the primary router??
If you did have it working to extend the wireless of a non-apple router in your previous house I simply don't know how.. according to Apple it isn't possible. You can use WDS.. that is slow and reduces everything to G wireless.. that is the only way.
    2. When you say in the first post..
4 other devices on my wifi network all have reliable connection, visitors' phones and laptops too, so shouln't be a wifi netowrk issue, ie network outside TC.
I presume if you turn off the TC, these devices still have wireless network because they are connected to the primary router.. not the TC.. again my bad reading.. I assumed they are connected to the TC.
So please spell out the whole network..
    Broadband modem.. type, model, make.
    Main router.. type model make
    Any other network devices.
And how was it setup in your old place and how is it different now.

  • Time Capsule connectivity drops on extended network with Airport Extreme

I have a new Airport Extreme router as the main router in my network and a Time Capsule set to extend the 2.4Ghz network. The routers must be configured in this order because I want the 5Ghz network from the Extreme to cover my main seating area.
The problem I have is that while I'm connected to the Extreme, on either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz network, the connection to the Time Capsule will 'drop'. The network drive within the Time Capsule will no longer be available and the AirPort Utility no longer shows the Time Capsule. If I reboot the Extreme, the Time Capsule will reappear.
Also, when the connection drops, if I were to move within the primary range of the Time Capsult and connect to the 2.4Ghz network, it will connect flawlessly and I would have access to the Time Capsule and it's resources. It is only access through to the Time Capsule through the Extreme that is no longer available.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Both routers work flawlessly otherwise. I'm fairly certain there isn't a hardware problem here. I've gone through all the configuration settings multiple times and can't find anything that could affect this. I have the latest firmware for both routers and the latest AirPort utility.
One thing to note is that the Time Capsule is a North American unit, while the Extreme is from Hong Kong. I know there are slight differences regarding the wireless channels that both can use, but I don't think this is an issue since the Time Capsule maintains proper internet connectivity the whole time. If it was a channel issue, I'd expect the Time Capsule to lose internet access when this issue arrises.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

7.4.2 firmware does NOT resolve this problem.
I also have this problem -- it started about 2 weeks ago (around July 20?), possibly at the time the new Airport Extreme firmware went into effect. I have two separate Mac laptops that each use Time Machine to back up to different disks that are attached to the Airport Extreme (i.e., each laptop has its own backup-destination disk). Both were working flawlessly before (for more than 6 months); now, each one reliably drops the connection to the disk (produces an error message, and thereafter cannot re-connect to the destination disk until I cycle the Airport Extreme with power-off/on). I had hoped that 10.5.8 would help (the release notes talked about improved stability with Airport connections), but not so.
