Time capsule with a new cable system

I presently have fiberoptic to the curb from the phone company and have an ethernet connection from the wall to my Time Capsule, no other router or modem.I am switching to Summit Broadband which supplies fiberoptic to a PAN in my house. My question is will I need a cable modem to connect to my TP or will they connect their PAN to my ethernet connection?

Fibre systems do not use a modem.. it uses a converter fibre to ethernet so it should supply your TC directly via ethernet.. how they actually wire your home you will need to ask the supplier.

How can I see the old backups of my previous Macbook done by Time machine in a Time capsule with my new iMac? I've changed from a Macbook to a iMac because that one stopped working and I cannot use it anymore. I've been able to import all the data of the last backup of the Macbook when setting the new iMac, but I cannot access now to the old backups of the Macbook and there are information that wasn't in the last backup and I would like to recover. Thank you very much.

    Yes, you can ..

  • Best way to Replace OLD Time Capsule with a new one

What is the best way to replace an old Time capsule with a new Time Capsule in an existing wireless network?

    IMHO..
    Start over..
Put the new TC in place and configure .. completely differently to the old one. That means you have to go around and reset everything to connect if you use wireless.. and you should forget all the old configuration beforehand.
You can of course try and slip it in using identical names and identical settings.. but the computers are not fooled.. the BSSID is different. And other issues tend to arise.
Use naming that is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    See Pondini post C9 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
It may take more time to start with.. depending on how many devices you have.. but in the end, you can get much less problems out the other side.. which are extraordinarily hard to diagnose and fix..
But that is IMHO.. others are welcome to dispute that and may find a full swap using old settings copied to a file and copied back to the new TC work fine.
There are any number of posts around about doing just that.
I will post one if I see it..
I do confess to being a bit of a purist when it comes to this stuff.. but then I used to do computer support and trying to fix the messes people got themselves into .. inevitably they tried to cut corners.. instead of doing the setup from scratch.

  • How do you replace a time capsule with a newer one

How do you replace a time capsule with a newer one?

LOL.. pull the old one out.. put the new one in. Setup the new one.. do not copy setting from the old one.. it is better to start over and never copy configuration files.. although you might get away with it.
Plug the old TC into the new one.. change it to bridge mode.
You can then access and copy old backups to the new TC if you want. Although IMHO just keep the old TC for 6months. .then wipe it and sell it or use in different role. Do start clean fresh backups on the new TC.
If that is all useless. ask the specific question and we can try for a specific answer.

  • Help with Time Capsule with a new modem

    Hi,
I did a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for.  What is the  easiest way to setup my Time capsule with a new modem?  I will be using  wifi with the time capsule.  I just got a new modem and the time capsule  keeps flashing a amber light.  It was working off wifi before I got the  new modem.
    Thanks, Jerry

There is only one right value for wireless now. Which I did list in the instructions.
    WPA2-PSK (AES) for the arris.
    WPA2-Personal for the TC.
Did you reboot everything when you disconnected the ethernet.. so the computer and TC can reallocate the IP addresses. This is important.
Reboot everything when you rearrange networks.. always do it.. even I am forced to do it.
Reboot in this order.. from off.. everything off.
    Modem.. wait 2min
    TC.. wait 2min
Computer.. this will now pick up a new IP from the whichever wireless is stronger.. should not make any difference if it is the TC or the Arris.
Now see if the TC is available in airport utility.
If it fails .. reconnect it by ethernet to the computer.
Give it a different wireless name .. ie the Arris and the TC will have different names.
And you are using "create a wireless network" in the TC.. no other option will work.
Update the TC so the setup is saved.
Unplug the TC from the computer and plug it into the Arris..
Now reboot everything.. sorry.. but it is the easiest way to clear up old settings and get everything going again.
Now in the computer you will need to open the airport and find the TC wireless.. and then you connect to it.
Once you connect direct to the TC you should have no trouble.
You can setup and fix any issues.. there are always a few silly things.. password default or wan setup .. choose ignore or change settings.

  • Any tricks to swapping out my old time capsule with a new airport extreme I am also using airport expresses

Any tricks to swapping out my old time capsule with a new airport extreme I am also using airport expresses?  The hard drive on the TC quit working.

I do plan on using an external USB HDD for time machine backups.  I have both 802.11g and 802.11n used for playing music via stereos.
I would recommend against it. Apple does not support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks (USB HDD attached to the AirPort Extreme). Although folks have done so, we get a number of them here asking for help with their corrupted backups. If your backups are critical to you, please use another means (like connecting the USB HDD directly to your Mac) to do so.

  • I need to setup our time capsule with an arris cable router

We have an existing 1st Gen Time Capsule but have moved. We went from Verizon Fios to CableVision Optimum Online.
The cable modem is an Arris TM822G plugged into the the WAN port of the TC. I can connect to the cable modem via ethernet and that works.
The time capsule flashes yellow and can't get an IP address but, my MacBook Pro sees the SSID
We use this for Time Machine backups and don't want to lose what we have.
Any ideas?  Couldn't find any from CableVision.

Do a factory reset of the TC.. this seems to be necessary to get it going again in a new setup, especially with cable.
Also your TC is probably in bridge mode.. the reset will put it back to router mode.
Does the cable modem have a battery backup or phone service? Sorry I don't know the exact model.. anyway you need to shut down the modem.. if it is battery backup, drop out the battery or unscrew the coax cable. It can sometimes take 15min or more for the system to reset. when you plug in another device it will take the public IP. So the first device that connects captures the IP.. that has been your computer.. now you have to get the TC to take it over.
A reset of the TC btw will not harm data on the disk.
    Reset methods here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
After full 15min.. (you can try one minute to start).. power up the modem.. wait 2min and then power up the TC.

  • How do I replace my AirPort Extreme Time Capsule with a new one?

I'm having issues setting up my new time capsule. I currently have the first gen time capsule and I'm having difficulty setting up the new one. The system is not recognizing the new one. What do I need to do??

You must use the latest utility 6.3 in the lion/mountain lion OS.. You must turn on ipv6 local link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
If you are trying to do it over wireless.. reset to factory and start over.. the new unit must be at factory settings to work with the utility.
IMHO use ethernet.. it is far superior.. You don't have to use it once it is setup.
But the setup will go easier with hard wired connection.

  • How do I include Time Capsule with my new AT&T U-verse network?

AT&T U-verse network (3 HD TVs, telephone & 18 Mbps Internet) was installed last week and is running great.  It has one AT&T WAP attached to the latest AT&T Motorola NVG510 router about a foot away.  First I want to incorporate a 2007 vintage 2TB TC into the network to have Time Capsule backup and the Airport functionality I had before U-verse sans the horrible speed (3.5 Mbps on a rare good day).  Then I want to expand the network for whole house coverage using a 2005 vintage Airport Extreme attached via Ethernet to the far end of the house.
Is this old Apple equipment slowing down my network?  All my computing hardware is Apple... 2 MBPs, 2 iPhone 4Ss, 2 iPads 4th generation, HP 309c network printer (USB, BT & WiFi, no e-print), 500GB USB2 HD.  Another 6TB is attached to a new MBP 9.1 via Thunderbolt and FW800.
I've read several posts similar to this, but they talked about the former AT&T 2-wire router or earlier versions of this Motorola router. I figure anything older than this year--2013-- is mostly obsolete.
    Thank you for your help.

Put the TC in bridge and plug it into the main router.. that will work fine.
Extending network by roaming with a 2005 extreme can work.
Is this very first N wireless model.. if it is the old UFO one.. they are only G wireless.. and although it will not slow your internet if the client is up close.. it will be slow for LAN connection.. 18Mbps is about the max real world transfer speed you will get out of G wireless.
What is worse is that the Airport utility will not work with non-N wireless.. AE.. so you will also need to use an old computer or windows with 5.6 utility or install by trickery 5.6 onto the Mountain Lion.

  • I want to replace my 1st generation time capsule with the new ac time capsule. What might I use the old 1st generation time capsule for

What use would there be for the 1st generation time capsule if I bought a new ac time capsule?

I just bought hte new ac time capsule (TC), and was using the 1st generation one at home.
=> I use now the old TC as an wifi extender and as a shared hard disk for family
=> the new TC is used with Time Machine for encrypted backup and first high speed network

  • Reconfiguring time capsule with a new internet service

We previously had our network setup and was using a cable internet provider.  Last week we changed over to internet through the phone line and I cannot get the time capsule to reconfigure.  Any ideas?  I have tried all of the tips, tricks and troubleshooting; short of a full reset for fear of losing data stored on the time capsule.  The time capsule is flashing amber and is not showing up on any of our AirPort Utility scans.
I have tried powering down both the internet router and the time capsule and have checked all connections.

Firstly let me assure you .. no reset will wipe data from the hard disk.. that takes a deliberate and confirmed action via utility.. no other way. So do full reset... and it will work fine.
Secondly remove devices from the network.. plug it into your computer.. fully isolated and do the setup.. then plug it back into the network.. it is much easier and using ethernet is the only way.
For adsl modem router you have choice to either bridge the modem and run pppoe client on the TC .. this is complex in that every modem is different and your ISP must support pppoe.
Or just bridge the TC.. this is easy.
Open  airport utility and go to internet tab.. (v5  different for v6)
On connection sharing select off (bridged mode.).
Update the TC.. put it back in the network by running ethernet from LAN port of the modem to the WAN port of the TC.

Seems to be connected, light green.  iPhone recognizes wireless network.  But when signing on, after password entered, spins and does not connect?  Any ideas?

have 2009 time capsule with 6 month old iMac  very slow  ...cox said to replace with new router or extreme with new wifi ???? confused

Replace the Time Capsule with a new one or replace your router with an Airport Extreme Base Station that has faster Wi-Fi. Or you could just connect your old Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection from the Time Capsule to the computer's Ethernet port.

  • How does one sync the new time capsule with the old airport extreme and airport express in order to extend range?

How does one sync the new time capsule with the old airport extreme and airport express in order to extend range?

    Thanks for the additional information.
Unfortunately, the AirPort Utility application in the Lion and Mountain Lion operating systems, which is used to configure the new Time Capsule does not support the older versions of the products that you have.
Even if it did, there are no settings on the older AirPorts to "Extend a wireless network", so they are not compatible with the new Time Capsule if you intend to extend the network only using wireless connections.
If you have the ability to connect each AirPort to the Time Capsule using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, it might be possible to use a complicated workaround to install an older version of AirPort Utility to configure the older AirPorts to work with the new Time Capsule.
If you have another Mac there that is using the Leopard or Snow Leoapard operating system, things would likely be simpler. I have not done this type of procedure to mix a new Time Capsule with older AirPorts, so I would not be able to say whether this would work or not.
