Time capsule works for pc laptop, but can't connect new ipad?

Got my new ipad and find that I cannot connect it to the Time Capsule even though the Time Capsule connection works for a pc laptop.  I tried my ereader which used to connect and also will not connect.  I was on the phone for a couple hours with Apple Care, but now that it appears to be a Time Capsule problem they can't help.  So frustrated, just want to get to my ipad!  Thanks for any help.  Please be gentle, as I need plain talk, I'm not that tech savvy.

If you reset the router , it will come back to factory default settings and your laptop will get disconnected.
I think you need to check the wireless settings.
Open the setup page of the router. Go to Wireless tab. Check the network name. Go to Wireless security tab. Check the wireless security settings and make sure that you have the correct network key. Go to Wireless MAC filter sub tab and make sure that it is disabled.
Try to connect to the wireless network again on IPAD.

  • My time capsule works with my laptop but not my iphones and states it has no internet connection even though it is working on my laptop.

I purchased a time capsule when I upgraded my iphone to the iphone 5 in November of 12.  The time capsule was very easy to set up and both phones and the laptop worked great. In March of this year, the iphones would no longer connect to the time capsule network.  When I would run the airport utility, I would see errors for no internet connection and no DNS servers.  The funny thing is that my laptop would wirelessly connect to the internet through the time capsule. I am currently on my laptop now but my phones don't work.  I am thinking that I updated software for both my phone and the time capsule so I tried reverting the software on the time capsule but it still gave me the same errors. If I hook the cable modem to my pc, it works, so I don't have an internet service provider issue. The issue seems to be with the airport device/time capsule. I have reset things to the factory default and didn't bother setting any password for the network but to no avail... If anyone knows what I can do to fix this, please assist... I am ready to give up on fixing it and revert back to my old wireless device. Thanks

Set it up with SMB compliant names.. that means, short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Set a different name for 2.4ghz and 5ghz..
Set security to WPA2 personal with pure alphanumeric password.. 10-20 characters is usually plenty.
Set wireless channel for 2.4ghz to manual and try channels 11, 6, 1 in that order.

  • My time capsule worked for several weeks and is now telling me backup disk not available? What to do?

My time capsule worked for several weeks and now is not backing up. Tells me backup disk not available? Any suggestions?

    This is a lion bug..
Generally just rebooting the TC will get it back. Otherwise you need to reset the TC and redo its setup.
Tell us a bit more.. but there is as yet no work around or fix for lion.
Certain things help.. but wireless is also a weak link. It will generally work better by ethernet.
Try and get back if it is still bugging you.. I can suggest some other things.. but I do not know of or read a bullet yet.
(Snow and TC firmware 7.5.2 which I run do not have this issue.. so the bug was introduced with Lion and 7.6 firmware)

  • Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

    Do the usual wireless things.
Change the wireless name to simple name with only alphanumerics and no spaces.
Set to manual and use channels 1, 6, 11 in turn.
For testing take off the security altogether.
The iphone only works on 2.4ghz so only that band is relevant.

  • Does time capsule work for windows

Will Time Capsule work on Windows computers?

Yes.  It's just a network drive to Windoze.  Once you find it browsing the network (assuming you named the worksapces riht, etc.), it will pop up on the list of network drives, and from there you can assign a drive letter to it and keep it auto-mounted.
However, with windoze 7 home, their new built-in 'backup' won't touch it, or use it in any way, because Micro$uck considers backup to network attached storage a 'premium feature' that mere home users shouldn't have access to.
However, any other backup software that isn't ******** will copy to the drive, if you assign a drive letter to it.  Including 'xcopy /h /e /r /d /i /c /k /y D:\mystuff Z:\backup', assuming you mounted the Time Capsule as 'Z'.

  • I have my tc hooked up but can't connect my iPad. Help?

So I thought I hooked up my tc properly. Have my password for the internet but for some reason, I can't get my ipads to connect.  Does anyone have advice?

Other computers can connect and get internet?? Only the ipads are having issues?
Is this a new TC or if not what model .. A1xxx from the base please??
Reset the TC and start over.. test with no password for wireless security to start with.. that would be my suggestion.
Once it works setup wpa2 Personal with 10-20 character pure alphanumeric password.

  • I just moved and wireless internet is now provided for me. I am not using my Time Capsule as a router anymore but can I still use it as my storage device wirelessly?  So far I cannot get it to work. Please help.

    Hi,
I just moved to a new place.  I used to have my own internet setup and used my Airport Time Capsule as my router.  Now that I don't need to use it as a router I would still like to use it as a storage device for my pictures.  Can I still do that wirelessly or do I have to plug it into my computer?  And if I do (which would really be crumby) do I just use a USB cable?
Please help.  I have a lot of work stored on it and I am feeling pretty stuck at the moment.
    Thank you,
    Charlie

You can use your Time Capsule in your new network in a number of ways. One would be as a NAS device which I believe you are looking to do.
To do so, you would connect the TC to the new router by Ethernet. You would also want to reconfigure the TC as a bridge and disable its wireless radios.
You can do both of these using the AirPort Utility, as follows:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the TC, and then, select Edit.
    Select the Network tab.
Change Router Mode to: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Select the Wireless tab.
    Change Network Mode to: Off
Select Update and allow the TC to restart.

  • Time capsule works as wireless router, but intermittently stops backing up because it is not recognized

So here is the scenario.  I just purchased a new 2T Time Capsule about a month ago.  At some point, about a week ago it stopped working correctly.  A few things that I've noticed:
    1.  The wireless router works just fine.
    2.  Every once in a while (more often than not) my computer (Mac book pro) will not recognize the time capsule and it will therefore not do it's wireless backup.  I can no longer use it to store data.
    3.  What works?  Unplugging the time capsule for about 20 seconds and then reconnecting seems to fix the problem, but will then the same problem will recur spontaneously.
    4.  Sometimes, I'll restart my computer and that will fix the problem, but again time capsule will drop off from the shared devices.
    5.  Interestingly, when TC is not recognized by my mac book, the Home Sharing feature of Apple TV also is rendered non-functional.
Any ideas?  is it a hardware issue?  If so, is it my Mac book or my TC or both?
Thanks for your advice in advance

I have seen a few posts on this one and the issue is very likely to be the way Auto channel changes take place.. for some unknown reason, the wireless can still connect as a router but the arp address is lost in the ARP table on the computer. So open a terminal and type arp -a soon after a TC restart when TM can see it.. you will see the TC MAC address listed. Once the TC is no longer recognised again do arp -a and you will find the TC is no longer listed. It is possible to force a static listing to the ARP table, but it seems to be much easier and better to simply lock the wireless channel.
Using the airport utility go to the TC setup and open the wireless area. Airport on the top menu.. wireless on the tab under that. where it says radio channel selection change to manual.. give it a fixed channel, for 2.4ghz it is best to pick the least used channel and you will need to use some site survey software to do this.. kismet, inssider for pc is superior to most Mac utilities at the moment. There are only 3 non overlapping channels 1, 6, 11 (12,13 outside USA). Pick one. I would also give a separate name to 5ghz wireless so it doesn't switch between the two.. that means you will have to change manually if signal drops out as it does more readily on 5ghz. The locking of channels seems to help the Mac not lose the MAC address in arp..though the actual mechanism is unknown to me.

  • How easy is it to plug a windows laptop into the ethernet port of a Time Capsule and for it to get an internet connection?

I use Time Capsule to distrubute wifi thoughout my home.  I have an office laptop (windows) that my company's IT dept won't install a wireless card in (for security reasons????).  Can I get an intenet connection to the laptop if I connect it to an ethernet port on the back of the TC?

Can I get an intenet connection to the laptop if I connect it to an ethernet port on the back of the TC?
If you can get an Internet connection when you test using your iMac's Ethernet port, then you know that the Ethernet port is working on the TC and the Ethernet cable is also working.
You should be able to get a connection on any other computer in the same way.
If you cannot get an Internet connection on the PC with the same hook up, then you will need to do some troubleshooting on the PC....or call the IT guys at the company to find out what type of block they may have on the PC.

  • Time Capsule Works for a while, then starts faililng.

Time Capsule is my only wireless access point/Time Machine backup, single 1TB HDD.
It'll work great, has about 792GB Backed up to it from my three computers in the house.
    My wireless devices are:
    Apple TV (40G)
    iMac Core 2 Duo
    Mac Pro
    Nintendo Wii
    IBM Thinkpad (evenings)
    iPhone
Every once in a while, with no discernable pattern, my Time Machine backups start failing.
Looking in the error logs under console I see this message:
    5/5/08 4:46:40 PM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[5531] Starting standard backup
    5/5/08 4:46:40 PM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[5531] Mounting disk image /Volumes/Tom Boucher's Time Capsule/antares.nomorestars_0017f20240ac.sparsebundle
5/5/08 4:47:01 PM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[5531] Failed to attach to disk image, returned: 35
The only way I can get it to fix is to reboot the time capsule.
Any ideas what is causing this?

You may have enough bandwith for USB audio if your USB ports are 2.0 but, as the Li've! 24-bit External seem to be USB . device, the limitation may come from there. But still, it should work w/ 6-bit/44. kHz w/o bandwidth issues.
Do you have IRQ(s)/resources for those USB controllers, you have plugged the device, shared w/ some other devices/controllers?
Have you tried w/ USB-ASIO drivers?

  • Does Time Capsule Work for Anyone???

I have a 3TB TimeCapsule and Mavericks on an iMac that about a year ago filled up and I had to restore from the backup (for reasons I forgot) and it royally screwed up permissions for files that I am still fighting.
About two months ago, I got some sort of window that said after verification TC was starting a new backup for my own good (thereby losing all versions of previous backups).
Today, with 1.59TB available out of 3 I got the error below, ran Disk Utility (it took over two hours with a huge History log) and apparently the TC disk is beyond repair and I'll have to reformat and lose all my versions AGAIN.
After the last mishap I occasionally backup my iMac to a 2TB external drive via SuperDuper.
It appears the weak link in my backup strategy is Time Capsule as it fails ALL the time and I have to start over
So, right now I trust it like a 5lb doorstop and I can do the wireless stuff with a much cheaper AirPort Express.
Is there anything I can do to get this doorstop back into reliable working condition (i.e. it started a new backup just two months ago)?
I've learned to live without recent versions because either when the disk gets full or during routine backups they aren't available with TC anyway.

apparently the TC disk is beyond repair
    Correct.
Its hard disk can be replaced, with some difficulty. iFixit has instructions.

  • Time Capsule seen by AirPort Utility, but can't configure (direct Ethernet connection)

Everything started with a Time Machine error stating that the Sparse Image was not able to be created - support document guided me to check machine name, which for whatever reason had a "(2)" after it.  I edited the name back to the original name without the "(2)", but it made no difference.  Tried restarting the TC, and when it came back up it showed a yellow indicator in AirPort Utility, stating that the TC Disk had errors.  Followed another article saying to erase the disk, and start over.  I initiated the erase, which quickly got to the message "finishing erase...", or the like, and just stayed there for more than 10 minutes.  There was no option to cancel or quit.  Finally gave up and pulled power on TC.  After restarting, and Green indicator came back on, the wireless network was working, but I could no longer get into configure from within AirPort Utility - the operation would just time out after a few minutes with a message saying to make sure it was in range (even though I am connected via Ethernet cable directly to TC).  After trying to disconnect a few more times with no change, and a soft reset did not change anything, I performed a Factory Reset (pulled plug, depressed and held reset button, plugged back in and waited for rapid flashing yellow indicator, released).  Upon Factory Reset the TC again showed up in AirPort Utility with the default name, but again I was unable to configure - same error.  Now networking and wireless still "works", but of course everything is back to defaults, and wide open.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your support!
    Jeff

Ok - had to wait until I was back at the location that has this Time Capsule to try your suggestion.  I unplugged the TC for over an hour, then plugged everything back in, and waited for it to show up in AirPort Utility again (TC showing a slow flashing yellow indicator - remember, I have already tried to do a factory reset, or hard reset before my original post).  I depressed the reset button and held it for more than 30 seconds, with no change to the flashing indicator, and nothing changed when I released it either.  I again tried a hard reset by unplugging the TC, (wait a bit), and depressing/holding the reset button, and plugging it back in again.  Soon after that, I get the quick flashing yellow indicator.  Since I didn't get very far with this last week, I continued to hold reset button, and after about 30 seconds it stopped flashing altogether, and stayed off.  I then released the reset button, and the TC restarted, and showed up in AirPort Utility again, but still am unable to go into configure it - it just times out trying to connect, and give the same message:
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. Make sure your AirPort wireless device is plugged in, and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
I'm going to take the TC with me this time, and take it to an Apple store, I just know that they are going to say it's dead, and would like to know that I have tried everything else before hand.
Thanks for your advice, and it you (or anyone else) have any further suggestions, please let me know - it is greatly appreciated.
    Take care!
    Jeff

  • How does time capsule work for PCs

looking for a wireless backup option for my MacbookPro and my HP Desktop, so want to be sure that the wireless backup options / software works on both platforms and there are no hangups

You might want to take a look at Genie Timeline Pro and contact their support folks to check on current compatibility with the Time Capsule.
Genie Timeline Pro | Overview | Time Machine Backup Software for ...
I have not used this product, but my neighbor loves it says that the software will allow automatic backups to a Time Capsule.

we have 3 macs and one pc. will time capsule be suitable

If you intend to backup automatically using Time Machine, the Time Capsule will work just fine with your Macs if they are running the Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion operating systems..
But Time Machine does not exist for PCs, so you will need to look around for a similar application for Windows. I haven't used it, but a neighbor of mine who has both Macs and PCs reports that he has had good luck with Genie Timeline.
A Google search will provide links for the application if you are interested.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
