Timecode Delay

I have been capturing footage on my Imac connected to a Sony J-30SDI via firewire. I have been capturing for about a year with no problems until yesterday. There all the sudden seems to be some sort of delay on the time code reading in the capture window.
For Example: I will put in the correct IN & OUT point and click on capture In/Out. The Deck will immediately start start rewinding/Fast forward to find the In Point. But there seems to be a delay on the time code reading on the capture window. It won't start going right away and will continue to loss time while capturing. Now it will correctly capture the right IN & OUT points but after the deck is done, I have wait until Premiere has caught up. (Usually about a minute for every 3 min captured). The Timecode & time duration will continue to go until it has reached the correct time. While capturing longer clips, it isn't that big a deal, but can really be difficult capturing a few seconds at a time.
Any ideas?

Sorted.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Not exportting to tape on TWO different Computers!!! HELP

I had a prior post in january with a new desktop having problems exporting to tape. when it would export a blue screen would come up at random times breaking up the recording. almost like the camera was losing signal with the computer.
Im capturing and exporting using a Canon XHG1 HDV camera.
Both the Laptop (sony vpcf11x) and Desktop (custom with intel sandybridge motherboard) can CAPTURE tapes fine. but export causes problems on BOTH machines.
Both of my computers (a laptop and desktop use the Intel i7 chipset.
I have a Third desktop (gateway something or other) that ive been using Sony Vegas to Export to tape and it WORKS EVERYTIME! with the same Camera and Firewire Cable.
Itried installing Sony Vegas onto the new Desktop to export and I get the SAME problem that I get with Exporting with Premiere.
has anyone else heard of these problems? it is really starting to irritate me. with everything ive done, it has to be something with Adobe. how can i have the same problem on two different computers?

Here are more specific information with my system and settings for you to see. I also included a video of my workflow and showing you what exactly is happening on export.
    Project Settings:
    Capture Format DV
Video Rendering and Playback: Mercury Playback Engine Software only
    Sequence Settings:
    DV NTSC
    29.97 fps
    720x480
    Aspect Ratio 16:9
    30fps Drop-Frame Timecode
    Playback Settings:
Desktop Video Display during playback checked box
    External Device: DV_29.97 720x480i
    Aspect Ration Conversion: Hardware Only
    External Device Audio
Export: external device DV: 29.97 720x480i
Disable video output when in the background is not checked
    Export to tape settings:
    Activate recording device is checked
assemble timecode, delay movie start, and preroll _ frames (none are checked)
abort after _ dropped frames (not checked)
    report dropped frames (not checked)
render audio before video (is checked)
I render out the video to one file (on my desktop).
then import the clip into a new sequence with the above settings.
    file>export>tape>
then it begins recording and drops out like the camera loses signal.
    this is really frusterating.

  • Setting timecode manually doesn't save in Premiere Pro CC

Hi, When I set the timecode of a clip manually (by clicking clip, modify, timecode) in Premiere Pro CC, everything works well until I quit out of Premiere Pro. When I quit and open the project again, the timecode has reverted back to the originaly timecode of the clip and my modifications were not saved. Has anyone had this issue or know how to fix it? Thanks so much!

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, even after restoring to default preferences, I still have the problem.
    It's Premiere Pro CC 7.0.0.
Sorry for the delay in my response-- wasn't able to get to a computer until now.
Thanks so much for any other advice you may have.

  • Timecode Break Issues when Importing, but plays back in camera fine?

    Hello,
I am having several timecode break issues. The tapes play fine on the camera in "playback" mode but once I try to import through firewire into final cut express it gives me multiple clips. I have tried using Imovie and QuickTime Pro for importing the footage. Imovie gives me delays in the footage and so does QuickTime Pro.
Why am I getting timecode breaks when importing through final cut express, but then it plays back fine in the camera? I am using a Macbook pro with Maverick and a Sony HVR Z5U camera.
Any helps would be great. The footage is in DV.
    Thanks

Why am I getting timecode breaks when importing through final cut express, but then it plays back fine in the camera?
Because the camera basically ignores the timecode when you just play back a tape in the camera.  While it may display the TC on the LCD screen as the video plays, the camera really doesn't care about TC during plain old playback.  However, with 3 different apps all encountering problems capturing the video, it would appear there are actual TC breaks.
    Questions
Is this a problem with one or a few specific tapes, or all tapes you try to capture from?
Also, the HVRZ5U is an HDV-DVCAM-DV camcorder ... are you downconverting HDV material to DV?
Do you have *ANY* other FW devices connected to you Mac when you try to capture video from the camera?
In FCE, you might try using the DV NTSC DV Converter easy setup, which ignores timecode, instead of the default DV NTSC easy setup.

  • TIMECODE BLUES!

I posted this in the VideoLounge too, but maybe it belongs more (or will get more views) here. Plus posting the issue in he Video Lounge got me all worked up again about how annoying it is.
    repost:
I've edited on EDIT and Avid, anyone else think adobes treatment of timecode is rediculous?
I can't make a 'windowdub' of a timeline for a producer to watch, unless (I've found a way to trick it...) I lay a blank title track and drag it across the whole job and apply the video 'timecode generate' effect to the blank title clip. Even then adobe (ON MY 12 GIG RAM MATROX AXIO LE SYSTEM) likes to render the timecode, it doesnt come off cleanly and can skip numbers and go slowly when your quickly shuttling the CTI around on the timeline. On all the edit and avid software, 'timeline timecode' or 'source timecode' even BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY were applied with a checking of a checkbox in the preferences dialogue box for review veiwing/editing of a piece!
What the devil was adobe thinking! Timecode is the MOST important thing for an editor, not the fancy effect (which my system does ALL of in real time - even when pulling 10 'picture in picture' Matrox 3D DVE effected video streams together WITH titles each - but it wont easily handle time code!) Maybe to many 'home video editors' today don't have need of timeline timecode anymore...but for those of us who work with producers, how are we quickly and efficiently supposed to communicate positions of edits to be made on the job!
    The other thing is...
I have in the past, needed to replace a piece of an audio track of a 'linked togther' clip. Or because of a J-cut, I have lost the 'link' between my video and audio tracks (you drag one out, the other doesnt link and follow intuitively).
This has lead to extreme problems on my end, because, I try to drag my video clip into my source viewer, mark down the timecoded ins and outs, and then I wil drag the audio from the bin (because in the cource viewer with a clip off the timeline, you can only shuttle between the ins and outs of the TIMELINE clip, not the margin of whats in teh bin) line up the time codes from what i had on my video, in-and-out mark it and drag the audio down to the timeline...THEY DONT MATCH UP!!!
^(this might be hard to understand, its the best I can describe it, if you have tried something similar OR worked in - especially old autodesk EDIT - you understand getting the time code from the source viewer and matching up audio from the the bins to the video, etc...Man I miss old Edit 6.0 alot!)
In EDIT and Avid, BOTH of the video and audio tracks CLEARLY were marked with their OWN timecodes, so you cuold play with them separately and make SURE they were still lined up. E.G. inserting B-Roll in the video track, and on the othr side of the B-Roll on the video and audio tracks, time code numbers appear next to timeline clip Picons, so you can make sure the numbers match!
Seriously, do editors design the software or just computer programmers!
I miss the days of Avid and Edit. Not that I'm complaining, my AXIO LE system performs absolutely flawlessly and exTREMELY fast with my adobe software!
Awaiting the new Matrox Axio LE drivers for the end of feruary to install ProdPrem CS4, exicted!
If anyone can let me know easy ways to cure my timecode blues - lets hear it!!!
I could probably stripe timecode onto a VHS (usually the clunky old format we use for internal review) with my old Panasonic 7510 and digi processor unit...but thats so much work for a windowdub!

Windowdubs are something I'm asked to create alot at my workplace, so the producer can go mull it over and give get back to me with a 'paper edit' using visible timecode (hour:min:sec:frame) that runs along the bottom of the whole pice. I cut trim insert etc...according to the generated running timecode on my VHS windowdub...Adobe doesnt easily place 'timeline timecode' over a while timeline (save for my work around), it can only place the effect on a clip to teh best of my knowledge.
It got really annoying before I found my work-around to place the timecode effect on everyclip and then WRITE IN the numbers corrsponding to the time on my timeline hashmarks, unless I'm completely attacking trying to turn on 'timeline timecode' the wrong way...
    To clarify the second issue:
Imagine you place PART of a clip (the center few seconds of the total captured asset) on a timeline. Now after editing things, you come back to it and want to break out the stereo track to mono and fine tune the audio.
You go to the clip in the bin, break out to mono, and bring your tracks over to the video clip (delete the old stereo audio track laying there). The WHOLE clips audio come out of the bin in mono fashion. Good luck trying to trim down and line up the new whole-clip mono tracks with your video excerpt, because the timecodes of the video and audio tracks, when placed in your source viewer (which tells you time codes of clip ins and outs), will NOT line up. Try it. Maybe I have a defective software suite!
For instance if the video excerpt SOURCE time code is 01:02:30:00 to 01:02:45:00 (which you write down as reference on a sticky note in front of you!) and the whole captured clip in the bin is actually 01:02:00:00 to 01:03:00:00 it SHOULD be easy to replace the audio without replacing the video track.
So you go to break out the audio from the bin clip place the mono audio clips in the source viewer, and cycle through the "toggle take audio and video" button on the source viewer until you ONLY have the audio showing (signified by waveform in the viewer instead of black or video). Find 01:02:30:00 and mark an in on that audio track, now do the same for the outs 01:02:45:00, now bring the mono tracks down to the timeline and 'snap' inline with the corresponding video excerpt. Do your audio and video line up?
Better yet dont delete the old stereo track, and play the stereo and mono alongside, hear the ~5 second +/- vacinity delay?
On edit and Avid, in the corners of the clips on the timeline (both ends a.k.a. head/tail) little numbers for BOTH source and timeline timecode were written, so if you ever had to replace audio (or recapture audio only and replace audio - more likely if you captured with bad levels!) you could EASILY replace the audio!
Tell me for years on CS3 here I've been donig things wrong! Or is my software messed up?!?!
If you've never had the need to be concerned with timecode (home editing/weddings etc...) I can understand, but when making documentaries or working with a producer selecting clips its rediculous!

  • Same Timecodes please ...

    Hello All,
    Here's one for you;
    - Capturing PAL DigiBetacam images onto FCP 6.0.2. using a Digi reader and a SDI-DV breakaway box (then onto a Lacie external HD), all via a firewire 800 cable.
    - For the moment, the material will be used for an offline edit.
    - Will conform in the final online later.
    - Video is coming through fine but the problem is the timecode on FCP does not match the timecode on the original Digibeta tapes. FCP seems to be using a random counter that has nothing to do with the timecode on the original tapes.
Any ideas how I can get FCP to read the original timecodes off the tape?
    Thank you in advance ...

as far as I understand SkyPix does not use any Device Control whatsoever. Am I right?
You can get a USB to RS422 adapter to be able to control the digibeta. That way fcp will have the right TC. (unless the SDI>DV converter has a delay, but that can be compensated for in the Device Control Settings). Keyspan is one of the manufacturers who makes such adapters.
Or if you do not have to many source clips, you can modify the timecode manually.
Select a clip. Find the same frame on the tape. menu: Modify > Timecode and fill in the appropriate TC for that current time. OK
    done.

  • Timecode Synchronisation in Sequenz

    Hallo,
Wär cool wenns da was geben würde...

    Hi,

  • Preview of loops has effect on it (digital delay)??

Previewing my drum loops (all music loops actually) ... I'm picking up digital delay. Where is it coming from?
When I drag the loop to the arrange window the effect is still there ... even though there is no effect assigned to that particular audio track.
I'm just getting up to speed on this Logic update. So I'm at a loss. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
    Ben

    Aha!!
This is only happening when I am using the beat mapping. I have a piece of audio I've 'beat-mapped'. Now I want to add a loop to it. But the loop previews, and the loops when I add them to the audio track, have some weird digital delay effect on them.
This isn't happening if I'm NOT doing a beat map. Everything is normal.

  • Huge delay in Printing Crystal Report Layout

    Good Day Experts,
I am experiencing big delays when printing a document that makes use of a Crystal Report Layout Design.
    For example,
The Sales Quote is set to automatically print when added by the user.
When clicking 'Add', SAP freezes up and only about 30 seconds later does the printer finally print the document.
During that time, the user cannot use SAP at all.
The layout does have a lot of fields and a few formulas here and there.
Logically, I am thinking that that is the reason for the delay, as SAP needs to calculate and populate those fields.
Is there any other way that I could speed up this process? Or if you know what might be causing this speed issue?
    Your assistance will be appreciated,
    Thanks

  • To delay a program submitted in background from another transaction.

    Hi All,
There are 2 programs 'A' and 'B' . During execution of 'A' , 'B'  is called and submitted in background using FM Job_open & Job_close and submit query.
My requirement is to Delay the Program 'B' by 2-3 mins without delaying Program 'A' .
I tried using FM JOB_OPEN export condition sdlstrttm   = w_starttm but was of no help.

  • How can I eliminate delays in one NIC when there is traffic on second NIC

Using LabVIEW TCP/IP VIs, my LV application is  accessing a database though a LAN, and  through a second NIC, it is controlling an instrument.  The instrument is connected directly to the computer NIC with a cross-over cable.  I have made a permanent route for the IP address of the instrument in the IP route table.  The LAN and the instrument have different subnet numbers.  Using a packet sniffer, I don't see any traffic meant for the LAN going to the NIC connected to the instrument.  The OS of the computer is Windows XP and the NICs are PCI cards.
The message traffic to the instrument suffers from intermittent delays when there is traffic going to the LAN.
How can I eliminate the delays?  What could be the cause of the delays?  Thanks in advance for your recommendations and suggestions.

    Hi LabBard,
Could you tell us a little more about the device that you are connected to? What you could try is to have a VI accessing the LAN, and a separate VI communicating with the instrument, and see how things play out.
Let us know how it goes!

  • CS5 (or 4)  Timecode in audio!

Good points, Tim--and I can definitely confirm that the Premiere team cares about the product. I've been contacted several times recently by team members, either in response to a post here on the forums or a feature request or a bug report. One of my feature requests got a personal reply, with a mention that a lot of PPro users had been requesting the same feature, but it was proving more difficult to implement than was originally expected. Nevertheless, there was a level of commitment intimated that assured me they were going to make it work, come hell or high water. I appreciate that--that lets me know they're listening to the most pressing usability and functionality (and stability) concerns and addressing them. Of course, not everything can happen the way we'd like, and that's just what we need to keep in mind.
It's features like the dual-system support that present one of those "chicken or egg" conundrums. Premiere is going to start popping up on more pros radars, whether they like it or not, and Adobe has to take that seriously. Do you attract potential new customers with all the sweet new features you've got, and risk losing them forever when they find out you don't have what they need, or do you alienate a gigantic sector of your user base that wants more effects and transitions, and focus your efforts on functionality that most of the user base would find yawn-inducing and decry as "not for me?" It's a critical time for Adobe, and certainly not an enviable one! I'm glad I'm not one of the product managers right now
Nevertheless, I'd imagine that for most of the current user base, Premiere does 98% of what they need--that's based on what I know I need, and what Premiere provides. But there's that nagging 2% area where any experienced editor--and typically anyone trying to use Premiere to earn a living--grumbles and says, "C'mon, already... get with the program." I guess if it worked 100%, we'd get bored easy because we wouldn't be able to spend all our time finding workarounds What would be the fun of that?

  • Time delay between 2 waveforms

    Hi,
Please bear with me while I explain what I’m trying to do :-)   Basically, in the attached LabView file (“flow vis + trigger-m.vi”), I am generating 2 signals: a sinusoidal waveform (used to drive an actuator) and a square waveform (used as a TTL signal to trigger image capture on a CCD camera). Currently when I run the program using LabView 7, both signals are started simultaneously. I would like to introduce a time delay that can be manually specified in the VI, such that when the program is started (i.e. at time t0), the sinusoidal waveform also starts (i.e. at time t0) before the square waveform (i.e. at time t0 + delay time). In a practical sense, this means allowing the actuator to run for several seconds before capturing any images.
It sounds like it should be quite straightforward to do, but I’m not so sure how to progress. I have begun to modify the original VI (“flow vis + trigger-m_2.vi”, as attached), but would be much appreciative of any help or suggestions on how I can complete the VI to meet the above requirement.
    Many thanks,

    Hi Mark,
I forgot that all analog waveforms generated needed to have the same number of samples in a single task. By introducing a delay into your square wave, I effectively added samples that waveform. So the same number of samples added to the square wave has to be added to your sine wave. I added code that extends the number of samples of your sine wave (# delay + square wave samples). Let me know if this works for you.

    iMovie does not use timecode.
Canons are notorious for weak timecode and firewire support. Try capturing the tape using another DV player.
