Timed Loop in Shared Lib caused LabWindow program to NOT exit

I have a shared Lib created in LabView that I call from LabWindows.  If I create a VI with nothing but a Timed Loop and no other code, my Labwindows program will not terminate.  (Even if I don't call the library function (VI) containing the Timed Loop).

I have a conditional that after 3 iterations, the loop is terminated.  (tied to stop)
The timed loop is empty.
The timed loop is definitely the cause of LabWindows not terminating.
I have attached a sample of the problem.

  • JFXPanel can cause the program to not exit

    This is a separate issue that came to light in another discussion: [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2236566]Image conversion between AWT and FX
    I've concluded that the culprit is the JFXPanel. Hopefully this will be sorted out by the final release. The minimum code required to reproduce the problem is:import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.embed.swing.JFXPanel;
    import javafx.scene.Group;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    public class JFXPanelHang extends Application {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        Application.launch(JFXPanelHang.class, args);
      @Override
      public void start(Stage primaryStage) throws Exception {
        JFXPanel panel = new JFXPanel();
        panel.setScene(new Scene(new Group()));
        primaryStage.setVisible(true);
    }The program doesn't terminate when the <tt>Stage</tt> is closed. If however you comment out the <tt>setScene(...)</tt> line, the program terminates normally.

    Illustrator has not been responding for over a week, I can't open or force quit it. I've already uninstalled, reinstalled, and deleted the preferences folder, but the icon in my dock seems corrupt and is causing the program to not respond and I can't delete it.

    Tamara,
    Did you reinstall using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger)?
    Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • How can I find out what causes a program to NOT RESPONDING status suddenly?

    After a very long period of functioning without serious problems a program suddenly doesn't start anymore, showing this funny rotating ball and a message in the Activity Monitor that this program is not responding. I have searched the log files meticulously, hoping to find some clues what caused the stuck, but no chance of course. Is there a more or less "educated way" to find out, what happened and how to prevent it in the future?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
    Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • My computer is old and any add-on's take up memory space. Usually these cause other programs to not work. How do I block add-ons?

    Anything that occupies more space prevents my ability to use my computer. I have taken off all pictures, all programs which I can delete (including games from the Windows program.) I cannot download any new programs because it it at a maxiumum of 50% space occupied. I have to keep the older Firefox program because they use less space. Every so often I have to delete firefox and return to earlier versions because too much has been automatically added on. Then my computer refuses to work.

    Also, after [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ updating to the latest Firefox], you can consider the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] feature via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''. You can also try to update via Firefox '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''About Firefox'''.

    It would also be a good idea to periodically clear the cache via '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Clear Recent History'''. Usually the websites cache could be the main reason for the filling up of the hard disk.
    Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
    To clear cache and cookies do the following:
    #Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
    #Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
    #Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.

  • Run Program activity not exiting

    I'm running SCOrch 2012 R2 and am having trouble with a runbook hanging. Here are the facts
    My runbook executes a script (the code for which, I have included below) that gets a list of AD users and exports that list to a .csv file.
    When run manually, from a Powershell window, the script executes and returns the expected file, before returning to the prompt.
    When run through the SCOrch, the script runs fine, with the output file created and the Powershell process exiting.
    The commands I'm using to execute the script manually and through the runbook, are the same (see below) and the run-as accounts are the same.
    The runbook never gets past the step that runs the Powershell script.
    The activity looks like this:
    Command execution
    Command: cmd.exe /c | C:\Windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe –c "C:\it\getADUserProperties-Parameterized.ps1 -SearchPath 'ou=customer,dc=domain,dc=tld' -DomainName domain.tld | Export-Csv C:\it\userList.csv -NoTypeInformation"
    Run as account credentials specified
    The rest of the options are set to the default values
    The question is, why doesn't the Run Program activity close when powershell.exe exits? I know it won't matter, but here is the script anyway:
    <#
    .Synopsis
    Get Active Directory user list with a user-specified set of properties
    .DESCRIPTION
    Get a list of Active Directory users from a user-specified list of containers (or the root of the domain) and return a user-specified set of attributes.
    This script can connect to non-native domains (domains that the executing computer is not a member of) if DNS is configured properly. If accessing a
    non-native domain, the script will prompt for credentials.

    mhashemi,
    I had a simliar issue as you did where my runbook would run until it got to the "Run .Net Script" Activity and then the Runbook would just stop. What I found was you can not have the command "Exit" in your script. The command "Exit"
    will force the Activity to close and will not output any variables.
    I am not the only one to find this issue.
    Check out the article labeled

  • ODCI : oracle data catridge interface service : what shared libs are needed

    Hi,
    I am writing aggregate functions. For using ODCI along with OCI in C/C++.. what are the shared libraries which are required : i have oci.h & odci.h files but do not know what shared libraries are needed to use the ODCI interface.
    I am getting the error :
    ORA-06521: PL/SQL: Error mapping function
    ORA-06522: /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/lib/custagg.so:
    undefined symbol: ODCIAggregateInitialize
    ORA-28579: network error during callback from external procedure agent
    ./libagtsh.so: undefined reference to `homtscb_ShutdownCallback'
    I don't see any one responding to my queries.
    Can any one give me some other paid forums where I can pay some fee and get clarifications for my errors and doubts.
    I am a student trying to study the extendibility of databases with user defined aggregates without the need to change the underlying database engine. This is a part of research which i am doing.

    But some how i am having problem with ODCI : it is
    not identifying the ODCIAggregateInitialize function
    It is throwing error : ORA-06521: PL/SQL: Error
    mapping function
    ORA-06522:
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/li
    b/custagg.so:
    undefined symbol: ODCIAggregateInitializeThat's a pretty useful error message IMHO
    And generally in Unix environment we don't include
    'extern "C" ' before each member function in the C
    program but we do that in Windows environment . So
    may be I thought of just try including that in my
    program(unix environment) and it was giving me even
    a worse error :
    RA-28579: network error during callback from external
    procedure agent.So I just removed that extern "C"
    keyword.Actually, the extern "C" is required because even though you are writing C-like code, it's C++ since there are declarations in the middle of the code, which C doesn't support (maybe C99 does, I don't know). This tells me you compile using a C++ compiler, which mangles the method name (to support method overloading, which C doesn't support). Adding the extern "C" makes the C++ not mangle the method, and thus the ODCI system can find the entry point in your shared lib.
    ORA-28579 is not a worse error, it is the error you should fix. But I can't help you there, I've never done it. OTOH, if you can make this work, I'd be very interested if you could post a complete example demonstrating what you are doing. --DD

    At first I thought it was just my own programs that I created with netbeans that had this problem; however, even the demo programs under the sdk folder give me this problem when i try to run them. Virtual Machine Loader will just come up with pop up saying "Could not find the main class. Program will not exit"
    I am a fairly competent programmer, not new to java. But I am new to guis in java, and using netbeans to create them. The program I am creating gives me this error with javaw and with java it will tell me NoClassDef for grouplayout. I checked the manifest file it looks alright:

    I feel like there may be some classpath issues?

    I am completely lost I have been working on fixing this for the past 2 or 3 days now, and reading up all the information.
    Note: This is just a standard desktop application.
    Also I just thought of something. If I have install the development kit do I also need to install the framework or whatever for 6.0 separately? Meaning installing the latest version of jvm. Sorry if this isn't clear i forgot what it is called.
    Sorry if this sounds like a beginner question or something, but I am going crazy. If i am having this much trouble running my own program i really hope distributing files won't be this much of a nightmare....

  • Shared variables + timed loops + naming conventions + how to find all

    Being almost halloween, thought I'd share some more eerie behavior I've noticed with shared variables.
    1st strangeness with timed loops already mentioned here:  http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=209475
    2nd strangeness:  If you have a shared variable that is network-enabled, it is OK to use a "?" in the name (eg, "RT_Simulate?").
    However, should you decide to change that variable to single-process, or if you create it that way in the first place, you will get this dandy message from the broken arrow you now have:
    "LabVIEW could not generate code for the shared variable. You must open the VI in the project that contains the library where the shared variable resides."
    ..............whaaa?????      Loosely translated, this seems to mean "Don't use a "?" in your single-process variable names."
    3rd strangeness:  I don't know if this has been mentioned before....
    If you have an application that references a network shared variable, and the library has NOT been deployed, the app will hang for some time (approx. 7 seconds! on my machine) before returning with an error.  This seems to be the case whether or not the error ins/outs of the variable are wired.  This looks bad to me, and I'm not sure what is causing it (some sort of timeout when attempting communication with the SVE I assume).  Has anyone else noticed this?  It should be easy to reproduce.  Any ideas?
    I haven't done any bug notifications yet, but will do if there are no positive solutions by next week some time.
    -Have a Great Halloween Weekend

    WHAVEman,
    Currently (as of LabVIEW 8.20) there isn't a way to programmatically interact with the shared variable engine outside of using DSC. If you had DSC you could "hack" a way to determine if a shared variable was deployed.
    I think the best way to get around your program hanging is to have an initialize state where you write a dummy value to each variable. If the variable isn't deployed, then you should get an error out of the shared variable. Problem is that there's probably going to be a timeout associated with determining if the shared variable is deployed. But at least you can use the information from your initialize state throughout the rest of your deployed application.

  • Memory leak in Real-Time caused by VISA Read and Timed Loop data nodes? Doesn't make sense.

    Working with LV 8.2.1 real-time to develop a host of applications that monitor or emulate computers on RS-422 busses.   The following screen shots were taken from an application that monitors a 200Hz transmission.  After a few hours, the PXI station would crash with an awesome array of angry messages...most implying something about a loss of memory.  After much hair pulling and passing of the buck, my associate was able to discover while watching the available memory on the controller that memory loss was occurring with every loop containing a VISA read and error propogation using the data nodes (see Memory Leak.jpg).  He found that if he switched the error propogation to regular old-fashioned shift registers, then the available memory was rock-solid.  (a la No Memory Leak.jpg)
    Any ideas what could be causing this?  Do you see any problems with the way we code these sorts of loops?  We are always attempting to optimize the way we use memory on our time-critical applications and VISA reads and DAQmx Reads give us the most heartache as we are never able to preallocate memory for these VIs.  Any tips?

    Hi thisisnotadream,
    This problem has been reported, and you seem to be exactly reproducing the conditions required to see this problem. This was reported to R&D (# 134314) for further investigation. There are multiple possible workarounds, one of which is the one that you have already found of wiring the error directly into the loop. Other situations that result in no memory leak are:
    1.  If the bytes at port property node is not there and a read just happens in every iteration and resulting timeouts are ignored.
    2.  If the case structure is gone and just blindly check the bytes at port and read every iteration.
    3.  If the Timed Loop is turned into a While loop.
    Thanks for the feedback!

  • Problem programming Timed Loop period

    I was trying to use the Time Loop in a FPGA target. I lost all day trying to figure out why the Time-Loop worked at a fixed period instead of the period I programmed. Finally I found out in this website that the time-loop works different in a FPGA target than in a normal VI. National Instruments should add a hint on the "Context Help" about this.
    Isaac

    Dear
    Issac,
    When you code VI for the
    FPGA target you should always thing that you are very close of the hardware.
    As mentioned in the context help and the help of LabVIEW, If you use the Timed Loop in an FPGA VI, the loop
    executes one subdiagram at the same period as an FPGA clock.
    The SCTL provides faster
    execution of the LV FPGA diagram, allowing each cycle of the loop to execute in
    one clock cycle. This enables up to update a signal line at the FPGA base clock
    frequency. The SCTL also optimizes the code generation so that the code on
    the FPGA is more efficient and uses less FPGA real estate. However, there are
    several restrictions on the code implemented inside of a SCTL
    To have more details
    about the timed loop (SCTL) you can have a look at the following link :
    Chapter 7 of LabVIEW 8 FPGA Module Training

    Using Single-Cycle Timed Loops to Optimize FPGA VIs (FPGA Module)

  • Can't open some Programs, Shared Lib Error

    Just ran the latest security update (2009-004), which didn't finish. That's the first problem. I tried repairing permissions etc, but it still wouldn't finish.
    Now, when I try to open some programs, notably Quicken and TechTools Deluxe, I get the following error:
    The application "+Name of Program+" could not be launched because of a shared library errror: ""<+Name of Program+><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_AE>"
    Any ideas on how to fix? I'm having a hard time finding all my install discs (getting ready to move, messy office), so would rather not have to resort to a reinstall.
    Thanks.

    Well, I answered my own problem.
    I rebooted into my Install Disk and repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility. Then I did a Safe Boot and repaired permissions. That fixed all the application not opening problems and the Security Update then ran fine.
    So, all is well. Lesson learned. Repair permissions before running the update. (I knew that, but tried to save time.)
    Thanks anyway.

    Platform is WIN_XP Pro and machine is a P4 at 2.5Ghz with 512 Mb ram.
    LV7.1 + PCI 6229
    I am using  50ms Timed loop for running a state machine inside it
    and also a  whole lot of other things like reading / writing
    DAQMx  functions;  file I/O functions and such. As the
    project involves a  main and sub-panlel set up local variables
    could not be elimnated fully and there should be something like 150 of
    them. But not all are accessed always - maybe about 15 of them at any
    given time depending on the SM staus.
    Problem :
    Once started the "Finished late"  indication  is off and
    the  actual timing  alternates between 49 to 52 ms. The CPU
    usage is around 25%.
    But as time goes by,  the system gets unstable : After 15 minutes
    or so, the Finished Late indication is always ON and the CPU usage is
    gradually tending towards or exceeds 100%.
    Obviously the machine control timing now gets affected and things slow
    down badly. Closing the application ands restarting repeats the above
    cycle.
    I am at a loss  to understand what is happening ?  WIll
    breaking down the single Timed Loop to multiple ones help  ? WIll
    that be an efficient way of parallel threading ?
    I can post the code but its quite large and will do it as a last resort.
    thanks

    Hello,
    It sounds like an interesting problem.  It would be worth some experimentation to figure out what's going wrong - attempting to decouple major "pieces" of the code would be helpful.  For example, you could try breaking your code into multiple loops if that makes sense in your architecture, but perhaps you could even eliminate all but one of the loops to begin with, and see if you can correlate the problem to the code in just one of your loops.
    Another concern is that you mention using many local variables.  Variable read operations cause new buffer allocations, so if you're passing arrays around that way, you could be hitting a problem of forcing your machine to perform many allocations and deallocations of memory.  As arrays grow, this can be a bigger and bigger problem.  You can use other techniques for passing data around your block diagram, such as dataflow if possible (just simple wires), or queues where dataflow can't dicatate program flow completely.
    Hopefully looking into your code with the above considerations will lead you in the right direction.  In your case, removing code so that you can identify which elements are causing the problem should help significantly.

  • Problem with classloader (for shared-lib's) on oc4j 10.0.3.4 under jdk 1.5

    I have a project that runs great on oc4j 10.0.3.4 under jdk 1.6. (everything worked great)
    I recently tried to run it under jdk 1.5 and i've run into a little problem with the shared-lib's:
    The classloader's debug file reports the following: (i have translated some of it)
    Class error: oracle.classloader.util.AnnotatedNoClassDefFoundError:
         Missing class: javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext
    Dependant class: nl.comp.util.XmlUtil
         Classloader: comp:0.1
         Code-source: /C:/programs/oc4j/j2ee/home/shared-lib/comp/0.1/comp.jar
         Configuration: <code-source> in /c:/programs/oc4j/j2ee/home/config/server.xml
    The missing class is available from the following location:
         1. Code-source: /C:/programs/oc4j/lib/xml.jar (from <code-source> (ignore manifest Class-Path) in META-INF/boot.xml in C:\programs\oc4j\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar)
    This code-source is available from classloader oracle.xml:10.1.0_2
         2. Code-source: /C:/programs/oc4j/j2ee/home/shared-lib/jaxb/2.1.6/jaxb-api.jar (from <code-source> in /c:/programs/oc4j/j2ee/home/config/server.xml)
    This code-source is available from classloader jaxb:2.1.6.
    So the classloader knows where to find the necessary lib, but it isn't loading it? If i run the exact same code (with same descriptors and everything) under jdk 1.6, it works, under 1.5 i get the above error.
    What is different on the class loader level between the two jdk versions that might affect the program in such a way?
    Need i update a descriptor or do something else?

    Jack,
    Not a definitive answer for you (sorry), just a few suggestions (that I assume you are unaware of).
    1. Try unsetting your "ClassPath" variable. Open a "command" window and type the following:
    set ClassPath=2. Launch OC4J from the directory where the "oc4j.jar" file is located, for example:
    D:
    cd oc4j\j2ee\home
    java -jar oc4j.jar3. I'm just guessing, but if your drive "D:" is a mapped, network drive, this may be causing the problem. Perhaps try installing OC4J on a local drive?
    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Unable to run Timed Loops

    Bit of an odd one that had me scratching my head.
    I have a development system consisting of a PC running a 7842R, acquiring analogue and digital data from the FPGA, loading it into a shared variable, and reading it out within a timed loop on the host as one parallel loop in a producer-consumer architecture.
    All's well until one day last week when I noticed my host VI becoming unresponsive.
    After a bit of digging, I find that the timed loop doesn't run at all. Replacing with a while loop with a wait at least allows me to show that the error is timed loop related, but it's not a viable long term option for me. Creating a new project and a new VI with a simple timed loop showed the same behaviour.
    A restart of the system, and rerunning the same VIs, and no problems since.
    So, questions:
    1) Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
    2) Any idea what causes it? A service crashing, for example?
    3) Is there a way of recovering without a reboot? If it's a service crash, I'm hopeful.
    The system will eventually form part of a production test environment, hence the query.
    Edit - also, wiring error terminals of a timed loop is a good way of highlighting errors of course.

    The timed loop is used to read all elements from a DMA FIFO and load them into a buffer FGV, which spits out packets of N samples long once they've assembled within the FGV. Ordinarily, I'd do this with a timed while loop and be perfectly happy to do so. However, the elements are actually an interleaved array, meaning that I have to demux them in the correct order that they were loaded.
    I use timed loops for a number of reasons: on my current Windows host, I've found that using a while loop has caused me more problems with respect to disordered packets, and that at least with using multiple timed loops (two, at most), I can assign priority to the acquire loop. Finally, it's also a development platform, and will be deployed onto an sbRIO once the electronics integration is finished in a week or two!
    W.r.t. system resources, there's very little else running on that system, but that doesn't normally stop Windows
    I recognise it's not ideal to run a software timed loop under Windows, but when you cannot run a blank project with Optimizing timed loop rate.vi from the shipped examples with nothing else running, it makes me curious to know why!
