Timelapse frame DPI resolution. Clips are jerky.

Hello.
I am producing 10 second (ish) long timelpase clips. I import 300 odd 1920x1080 still images.
Project is set to 30fps (or 25, depending). Set to 1 frame for still images.
I am producing the still images on a DSLR, and resizing them in Canon Photo professional. I have the option of a DPI for each individual still.
Does anyone know what DPI is required for viewing crisp images on a HDTV? The default is 350. i have raised this to 1200 as 350 seems low.
The resulting clips have a slight jerky feel to them, the motion is not smooth. I am wondering if this is due to the DPI setting.
The finished clips size is roughly 50MB.
i am saving the clips in PE as AVCHD/MP4-H268 1920x1080p 25
Thanks for any assistance.
EDIT, here is an example https://vimeo.com/84488936
EDIT02. Also in Canon Photo Professional i have the option to tick "embed ICC profile". What does this mean?

Thanks for the update. Sorry the news is not better.
This 25 frames per second that seems like half that...am I correct that this is for the playback of the
MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p25 export of the Timeline, not what you are seeing in the Edit Mode monitor when you are viewing playback of the rendered Timeline before export?
Do you see this slightly jerky video motion to which you refer in the Time Lapse before and after export?
What is the actual duration of your export of 300 jpg each with a duration of 1 frame?
I do not recall that I asked or your said, is this playback matter restricted to this particular batch of 300 jpg images or do you run into this problem with all your Time Lapse video projects?
I have gotten excellent results for Time Lapse video Premiere Elements projects so I am reluctant to characterize the experience as
Old school animation VS new age tech. Rhubarb and Custard Vs Toy Story!
And, if there were a glitch in the process, I would not dismiss anything as irrelevent, as I systematically  ruled in or out possible causes for the glitch.
We could get into how the photos were introduced to the Timeline, possibities for slivers which at the Timeline level of 1 frame would be hard to detect if you had set for 1 frame per second in the preferences beforehand, and so on.
We will be watching for further developments when you have time.
Thank you for the follow ups.

  • Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are still frames captured within a video event.

Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event.  I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events.  I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills.  ABout 50 of them,  When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them.  So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it.  (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff).  Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else.  Do you know a way around this?

  • Mixed frame rate video clips on the same Blu-ray disc

Before I go into the detail, this actually isn’t an issue for me, but more of a finding the answer to a different question, so please bear with me.
To explain:  I live in the UK, and I’m forever challenged by the different native video frame rates imposed by the PAL and NTSC standards.  Every consumer camcorder I’ve ever seen only produces HD output (1920 x 1080) at either 50 fields/second interlaced, or 25 (sometimes 50) frames/second progressive.  Some action cameras (Go Pro) I possess allow me to record at 30fps progressive, in full HD, which for fast movement is simply better.  This in itself is not really a problem, but I use other software (all USA sourced) for video production whose best results are only visible when the finished HD output is 1080/60i.
Having mixed frame rate video is a real problem for the DVD standard, but no so much for Blu-ray. Indeed Adobe Encore neatly gets around this problem, so I can actually author a Blu-ray disc which contains full HD video clips that may be either 50i or 60i.  Both types of video exist on the same disc, and when played back through a Blu-ray player/TV combination, the resultant video clips are shown correctly. Player and TV switch seamlessly to the correct setting to handle the video content.  So, I have a solution to my problem, but at the same time, a question I can’t find an answer to, which is this:
Does the Blu-ray specification allow video clips of different native frame rates (i.e. 25fps and 30fps) assuming the resolution is the same, to co-exist on the same Blu-ray disc as a supported feature?
It works, but I can’t find one shred of information that says what I’m doing is supported.
    Comments are most welcome.
    Regards,
    Steve

Encore requires you to specify the project type as PAL or NTSC (whether you start it as Bluray or DVD), and does not allow you to change it later. Also, if you try to create a transcode type for PAL in an NTSC project you cannot get to the 25 fps setting (and therefore, I think, cannot do it).
But if you import a Bluray legal 25i file to an NTSC project, it is happily added.
DVD player conventional wisdom is that PAL players handle NTSC disks, but NTSC players do not generally handle PAL disks. I never quite understood why the TVs were not more of the issue. Do Bluray players even differentiate between PAL and NTSC?
Even if the player will handle PAL, the TV may well not do so - so there is more going on.
NTSC uses (generally) 60Hz systems whereas PAL is 50Hz hence the problem.
Do not try to mix standards as it will not be allowed - however, multiple frame rates are allowed as long as they are within spec for that TV standard.
They are best avoided though - otherwise you run a very real chance of serious asset truncation as the TV display switches between different resolutions & frame rates.

  • How do I cut a single frame from a clip and use it as a photo in iPhoto

I would love to cut a frame from a clip in an iMovie project I have and then use that cut as a photo in I photo. Can I do it and how.
I'm under the gun and if you are insomniac and you want to answer right away, please go right ahead.  thank you

You can install an App called MPEG Streamclip or you can simply pull up the clip in full screen and take a screen shot using (command+shift+3) or using (command+shift+4) to click and drag to create a box around what you would like to take a snap shot of.

  • Identifying which clips are used in browser

I am learning FCP for the first time but I am extremely familiar with editing video on a PC. My version of FCP is 6.0.6. I really want a way to see in the browser which clips I have used in a sequence. I know I could manually mark each take by using a label but that is a huge time waste with hundreds of clips in my program. Show duplicate frames is helpful in figuring out if I have used a shot before but I want to avoid having to ever even put the same shot into the time line.
If I have 100 shots and I have used 75, I want a fast way to see the other 25 shots in my browser so I don't waist time trying every shot to see if there are duplicated frames in my time line. And I don't want to have to manually change a label every time I edit in a shot for the first time.
Premier does this so much better.
    Thank you.

Thank you but I know how to enable "Show Duplicate Frames." I want to avoid needing to use this in the first place.
In Premier's equivalent to the browser window we have a field labeled "used" and it's checked if we have used the clip in the time line / sequence. Then I can instantly see which clips I have pulled nothing from.
Yes I could edit my piece and use the "Show Duplicate Frames" to find out I used 30 clips twice or more in a montage. I want to avoid putting the clips into the sequence it first place so I don't waste time. I also don't want to waste time editing a clip to the time line just to find out if I have used it before with the Show Duplicate Frames setting enabled. That wasts lots of time when you have a large number of clips. I don't want to try say 50 clips in the time line to find the 1 or 2 that I haven't already used.
I want to be able to see what clips are used in any sequence from within the browser so I can quickly see what's left. This is not Show Duplicate Frames. Again I understand what that setting does and it is helpful but not what I am talking about.
    Thank you,
    David

  • How can I hold a frame of a clip?

I want to hold the first frame of a clip, then play the clip, then hold the last frame. Seems like there's some time remapping tools somewhere but I can't figure this out.
I can't just take a screen shot and set that as the still because this is one window in the video and there's other stuff going on.
Basically there are going to be four windows each with a video track. One will play, then freeze and the next will begin.
Any thoughts on how to do this? I don't want to have to go into After Effects if I can help it.
    Thanks!

To get a still of a clip in the timeline, go to the frame you want to freeze, select 'f' to match frame back to that clip and frame in the Viewer, select Sift+N' to create a Freeze of that frame, insert that into the Sequence.
... same for freeze at end.
You said there's four windows - you mean on one screen? ... then I'd create 4 sequences, possibly of the same duration each; one each for the 4 frames you want. They would each start with a freeze, roll on, then freeze at the end. Make these SEQs longer than you need.
One at a time, put them into the Viewer (don't double-click them) and edit them onto 4 tracks of master SEQs.
Apply sizing and motion to each of those. Control-click the clips in the timeline and select 'Open In Viewer' to see their motion tabs.
This method helps separate the roll off/to a freeze from the editing & motion (resizing/zooming etc.)
    Hope that helps.
    Neil.

  • Capture on the fly dropped frame aborted capture - clip gone forever???

I foolishly set up my Macbook pro to capture the video feed live from an HVX200 camera via firewire... THE clutch interview for a client... Lo: what happens but halfway through the interview, capture aborts and error message reads "capture aborted due to dropped frames".
It's an investigative journalism project, with a hostile interview subject, so no do-overs possible.
Clip not showing up in capture scratch or anywhere else.
My question is: has anyone had any luck rescuing an incomplete clip like this? The hard drive was churning, doing computerlike things, writing, so the information is there somewhere. It's just that the "pointers" or "handles" of the clip are gone. I know with IBM/Avid there's an attic where you can get to weird and/or incomplete files - is there anything like that with MAC/Final cut? Or is this setup "all or nothing"?
Maybe someone knows about a program that can recover incomplete data, good for MAC?
I know, shame on me for capturing straight to computer - I'll never do that again.
    thanks!
    Jeremy

has anyone had any luck rescuing an incomplete clip like this?
Nope. The file failed to complete...QT/FCP didn't get a chance to write the end code for the clip, so it is unusable.
I know with IBM/Avid there's an attic where you can get to weird and/or incomplete files
The ATTIC in Avid terms is the same as AUTOSAVE in FCP...it saves a backup of the project bins, not the media. Not sure about the IBM attic...
I don't know of anyone having luck recovering a file that has been aborted like this. And this happens to more people that we'd like to see. Capturing one-of-a-time events straight to computer with no backup. Bombout.

  • Merged clips - are they all bugs or is there something wrong with my system?

I have to use merged clips to sync video and audio because making every clip a sequence is too cumbersome and doesn't give me thumbnails to help choose my shots. Apparently, merged clips are very buggy. I can't use colored markers because they don't get saved on merged clips. I can't use match frame on merged clips because they don't find the correct frame. I can't set a poster frame on a merged clip except with the "in" marker. Are all those problems bugs, or is there something wrong with my specific system. I trashed preferences to fix another problem unrelated to merged clips, but that didn't solve any of the clip problems.

I don't believe there's anything wrong with your system.

  • After PreRend. - Last frame of a clip is copied into the first 2 frames o. t. following clip

    Hey Guys - Michi here,
and I am dealing with a horrible problem!
I just got rid of Premiere CS6 (Where I was dealing with the same problem) and got the new Version of Premiere. I really love it!
Heres the Problem I am dealing with:
Everytime i've finished a sequence i go to:
    Sequence -> Render Section.
Then the Rendering Window pops up and PR CC does his job.
But when replaying the prerenderes section i noticed something.
I zoomed that much into timeline so i was able to see every frame of the clip - because the play back seemed kind of OffBeat to me. And the thing that happend to every clip that was directly laying beside another clip - so there was no space between them - was, that after the PreRendering Premiere CC (and CS6 DID THE SAME) copied the last frame of the clip into the frist two frames of the following clip - so the are reeeeally tiny "still" pictures between every transitions. -> And that means, that the clip that is shown in the "Program Window" - Monitor in which you can preview the PreRenderes Video - doesn't change to the beat I've edited it on, BUT it changes 2 frames later!!
    Here are some screenshots:

In Pic. 1 you can see, that the Marker (the red thin bar) in the Timeline is laying on the last frame of the clip on the left - the clip is called GoPro2130.MP4 (120%).
If i move the marker now over the the first frame of the clip called GoPro2130 (114.99%) the preview should change - but there is still the frame that was shown in the preview window at Pic.1
Now i moved the marker over for another frame (Pic. 3) - The same frame that is shown in Pic. 1 & 2 is still on the preview window.
NOW i moved the marker over for another frame (Pic 4 - 3rd frame of the new clip) AND NOW the clip finally changes although the clip should have changed 3 frames before..
ITS HORRIBLE!! I really dont know what to do..
Sorry for the huge text and the bad english (Student from Germany).
You guys are my last hope.
    Regards, Michi.

Thanks for your suggestion about using the clip markers.   I tried them on a test clip.   They did not come down to the timeline.  Besides, I would want them labeled.   Right now all my clips have a marker that is labeled with the date and location.   The chapter markers are labeled the same way.   I have a spread sheet that list the dates of all the Chapter Markers which connect to the dates on the menu.     This seems like an old fashion way to do things for such a sophisticated software.   Maybe I should put in a feature suggestion to Adobe.   I would do that, but I am afraid that I may embarrass myself as being the only one that ever asked for something like that.   Or they would accuse me of misusing their software.
    Again, thanks for your suggestion.

  • How do I see every frame of a clip on the timeline in Premier ?

There are of course times when I need to see every frame of a clip to synchronize two clips. Imagine for example that you have a two camera shoot and both cameras were looking at a clapstick, or at a strobe. I want to put both clips on the timeline and zoom in to see every frame. Now I can align the two clips fo that one specific frame of each clip is over/under each other. However, when I have zoomed into the timeline it seems I can never zoom quite enough to see every frame What do I do to be able to zoome all the way in to the timeline so I can see every frame of the clips ? I haven't actually tried this yet with CC, but did with CS6 and it wouldn't do it.

I'm not knocking the idea of using the program monitor to place markers on sync points and using that to synchronize clips. It should be a very good solution.
What I am saying is that there are times when it would be advantageous to be able to see every frame of multiple clips on the timeline. When i first tried to do that I zoomed in and it looked as if it would display all the frames. I was dissappointed to find it wouldn't. As an editor who has done a lot of resynchronizing multiple camera shoots where there is no intentional visual sync cue, i can tell you it can be a big help to be able to see the frames as if we had a strip of film on each timeline. Sometimes we need to see several frames of each clip at the same time to make a decision about which frame represents the sync point, or to make the quickest possible decision about where to start and end a dissolve, or to chose which camera to use. In a scene shot with only one camera, there is no actual sync point. The action may have progressed slightly differently between shots. Being able to see 10 or 15 frames from each shot can help to make the quickest decision about how to line up the shots and where to do the transition. Would anyone out there say it would be a bad thing if Premier Pro could display every frame when we zoom all the way in ? It seems to me that it could only help. So i request Adobe consider it as a possible future improvement.
Here is an example, the last time i tried to see every frame in Premier. I had a scene I used Maya to create, series of Tiffs. This scene shows an object appearing as if arriving through a time or dimensional portal. The scene includes plasma popping and flashing. There are two different shots of the same moment in time. The shots are frame numbered. So if I could see the frame numbers from the original tiffs on the timeline I could align the shots that way. But of course I lose the frame numbers. The overall scene is too long, and rendering time too long, especially for 3-D 1080, to render each shot from the beginning of the scene, which would make synchronizing very easy. So i needed to sync to the flashing plasma in the scene. I though I had the shots lined up using a flash. It turned out they were not the same flash. So if i did a slow dissolve between shots, the flashes form each shot would not line up in time. What I needed to do is line up several flashes happening over a couple of seconds, so I coud verify the flashes were the same flashes. There are different numbers of frames between each flash, so if I got three to line up they would have to be the same flashes. I spent a lot of time trying to get these shots lined up. If I could zoom into the time line and see evry frame I could synchronize several clips by lining up the flashes, in just a couple of minutes. To do this with markers, marking say five flashes from each of four shots, it would take several minutes to do it before being ready to do the synchronizing. It's a workable solution, but is not ideal, a compromise.

Try creating a new project, and bring in a short clip and one or 2 subtitles and see if you see the same behavior.  If you don't,  something's probably wonky in the project.  If the sample behavior has the same problem, if you want to send it to me with the associated media, I'll take a quick look.

    I have a pansonic 14meg camera which shoots HD 1060 30 frame and 720 60 frame .
I have been using the 720 6 frame .  Playback using on my camera is perfect , but when I download on to my Intel 1.6duo macmini play back is jerky ... is this just processor limitation or if Mini should be fine to play back (using Quicktime7) could it be file corruption / camera issue.
I think it is just my old computer probably starting to struggle !

    Couple of things:
There is virtually no standardisation of video formats. The file suffix is if little use to use as, in the case of video, files are just containers for data streams encoded and decoded by Codecs. Pretty much every manufacturer has their own codecs for each and every camera. Put it this way: every Jpeg still is pretty much the same, as there is an agreed standard for that format. There is no such guarantee with avi, mov etc. That's why the model and format of the camera is important.
This model was released in 2012, and you're trying to read data from this using a QuickTime 7, which predates that by a few years. Oddly, Snow Leopard came with QuickTime X, so I'm not sure what you've done there.
iPhoto does not guarantee to import all video from all cameras. What cameras it does support are usually still cameras with a video add on. What you have is a camcorder and the correct app for importing and manipulating video from such a device is iMovie rather than iPhoto. It may be able to transcode it.
