Timer not firing

Question

Whenever I try to use the Timer class, it won't fire for the life of it. I can't figure out what the problem is. This is a sample piece of code here:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class TrivialApplet extends Applet implements ActionListener
private int x = 3;
private int y = 3;
Timer t;
public void init()
t = new Timer (30, this);
t.start();
public void paint(Graphics g)
g.drawString ("David", x, y);
public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent e)
x++;
y++;
repaint():
I want my name to animate across the screen, but it just doesn't do anything. Just sits in the corner. Kinda annoying.
could anyone figure out why my dumb timer doens't ever fire??? Thanks in advance.

}It works for me. How are you running it? Are you sure you are running the current version? If you put this line in, it should make a noise at you    public void init() {
     t = new Timer (30, this);
     t.setRepeats(true);
     t.start();
     Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().beep();
    }
