TimesTen Replication with Oracle

I am generating some 100k data in TimesTen i would like to replicate those data to Oracle database.
What will happen if there is sudden crash in the system of TimesTen ,how replication will takes place ,once again i reconfigure the replication to oracle whether the data which are inserted in TimesTen will get reflected or i need to manually need to load the data,is it is possible.
If there is sudden crash then how the data at the TimesTen end will be written to the disk ,since data which are been written to disk are on the basis of check-pointing and transaction logging. if so how to avoid this situation in real time.
Thanks!

The 'replication' to Oracle (actually AWT cache group) works by capturing the changes from the TimesTen transaction logs. Once a change reaches the TT transaction logs on disk it is safe and once the TT machine, TimesTen and the replication agent are back up replication will resume from where it left off.
More generally, data stored in TimesTen is persisted and protected using the checkpointing and transaction logging mechanism within TimesTen. By default, TimesTen uses asynchronous write to the logs (DurableCommits=0). This gives very high performance but in the event of a failure you will lose the last few committed transactions. If this is not acceptabel you can tell TimesTen to use synchronous commit to disk (DurableCommits=1). This is much (and I mean hugely) slower but ensures that all committed transactions are safe (unless the disk itself fails). TimesTen also provides TimesTen to TimesTen replication (both asynchronous and synchronous) as an additional / alternative method of data protection.

  • Timesten replication with multiple interfaces sharing the same hostname

    Hi,
we have in our environment two Sun T2000 nodes, running SunOS 5.10 and hosting a TT server currently in Release 7.0.5.9.0, replicated between each other.
I would like to have some more information on the behavior of the replication w.r.t. network reliability when using two interfaces associated to the same hostname, the one used to define the replication element.
To make an example we have our nodes sharing this common /etc/hosts elements:
    151.98.227.5 TBMAS10df2 TBMAS10df2-10 TBMAS10df2-ttrep
    151.98.226.5 TBMAS10df2 TBMAS10df2-01 TBMAS10df2-ttrep
    151.98.227.4 TBMAS9df1 TBMAS9df1-10 TBMAS9df1-ttrep
    151.98.226.4 TBMAS9df1 TBMAS9df1-01 TBMAS9df1-ttrep
with the following element defined for replication:
    ALTER REPLICATION REPLSCHEME
    ADD ELEMENT HDF_GNP_CDPN_1 TABLE HDF_GNP_CDPN
    CHECK CONFLICTS BY ROW TIMESTAMP
    COLUMN ConflictResTimeStamp
    REPORT TO '/sn/sps/HDF620/datamodel/tt41dataConflict.rpt'
    MASTER tt41data ON "TBMAS9df1-ttrep"
    SUBSCRIBER tt41data ON "TBMAS10df2-ttrep"
    RETURN RECEIPT BY REQUEST
    ADD ELEMENT HDF_GNP_CDPN_2 TABLE HDF_GNP_CDPN
    CHECK CONFLICTS BY ROW TIMESTAMP
    COLUMN ConflictResTimeStamp
    REPORT TO '/sn/sps/HDF620/datamodel/tt41dataConflict.rpt'
    MASTER tt41data ON "TBMAS10df2-ttrep"
    SUBSCRIBER tt41data ON "TBMAS9df1-ttrep"
    RETURN RECEIPT BY REQUEST;
On this subject moving from 6.0.x to 7.0.x there has been some changes I would like to better understand.
6.0.x reported in the documentation for Unix systems:
If a host contains multiple network interfaces (with different IP addresses),
TimesTen replication tries to connect to the IP addresses in the same order as
    returned by the gethostbyname call. It will try to connect using the first address;
if a connection cannot be established, it tries the remaining addresses in order
    until a connection is established.
Now On Solaris I don't know how to let gethostbyname return more than one interface (the documention notes at this point:
If you have multiple network interface cards (NICs), be sure that “multi
on” is specified in the /etc/host.conf file. Otherwise, gethostbyname will not
    return multiple addresses).
But I understand this could be valid for Linux based systems not for Solaris.
Now if I properly understand the above, how was the 6.0.x able to realize the first interface in the list (using the same -ttrep hostname) was down and use the other, if gethostbyname was reporting only a single entry ?
Once upgraded to 7.0.x we realized the ADD ROUTE option was added to teach TT how to use different interfaces associated to the same hostname. In our environment we did not include this clause, but still the replication was working fine regardless of which interface we were bringing down.
My both questions in the end lead to the same doubt on which is the algorithm used by TT to reach the replicated node w.r.t. entries in the /etc/hosts.
Looking at the nodes I can see that by default both routes are being used:
    TBMAS10df2:/-# netstat -an|grep "151.98.227."
    151.98.225.104.45312 151.98.227.4.14000 1049792 0 1049800 0 ESTABLISHED

    TBMAS10df2:/-# netstat -an|grep "151.98.226."
    151.98.226.5.14000 151.98.226.4.47699 1049792 0 1049800 0 ESTABLISHED
    151.98.226.5.14005 151.98.226.4.47308 1049792 0 1049800 0 ESTABLISHED
    151.98.226.5.44949 151.98.226.4.14005 1049792 0 1049800 0 ESTABLISHED
Tried to trace with ttTraceMon but once I brought down one of the interfaces did not see any reaction on either node, if you have some info it would be really appreciated !

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply, I have few more queries on this.
1.Using the ROUTE CLAUSE we can use multiple IPs using priority level set, so that if highest priority level set in thr ROUTE clause for the IP is not active it will fall back to the next level priority 2 set IP. But cant we use ROUTE clause to use the multiple route IPs for replication simultaneously?
    2. can we execute multiple schema for the same DSN and replication scheme but with different replication route IPs?
    for example:
At present on my system, I have a replication scheme running for a specific DSN with stand alone Master-Subscriber mechanism, with a specific route IP through VLAN-xxx for replication.
Now I want to create and start another replication scheme for the same DSN and replication mechanism with a different VLAN-yyy route IP to be used for replication in parallel to the existing replication scheme. without making any changes to the pre-existing replication scheme.
for the above scenarios, will there be any specific changes respective to the different replication schema mechanism ie., Active Standby and Standalone Master Subscriber mechanism etc.,
If so what are the steps. like how we need to change the existing schema?
    Thanks In advance.

  • SQL 2005 Replication with Oracle 11g

    Hello Everyone,
Thanks in advance for looking at this. I am setting up replication from SQL Server 2005 with an Oracle 11g source.  I've installed the Oracle 11g client and set up the service name on the SQL Server.  I can successfully test the connection from
SQL to Oracle via the Oracle Net Manager as well as SQLPLUS.
When I try to add the Oracle Publisher to SQL, I can't get past the SQL Error 21627.
"Unable to connect to Oracle database server 'Name' using the Microsoft OLEDB provider MSDAORA."
Any ideas on what I am missing?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Thanks for the input Hilary. The oracleadmin.sql was ran on against the oracle instance long ago and since then we have been able to replicate. The previously successful replication was from a server that is no longer with us. I'm trying to get this
working again on a new server. Am I correct to assume that the script does not need to be ran again?
For the others, I'm working on the link server setup, but must be doing something wrong as I keep getting this:

"The test connection to the linked server failed."
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I definitely appreciate the help everyone.

    Hi,
In our project we are using this type. Since in this project server in UNIX(DEC) and client is running on windows. We have created a listener which always listen requests from client and doing the according to the request.
Step1. create a request table, where u are inserting ur request.
step2. create PRO*C proram, which is listening request on the table. If there is any request, call the imp (executable). This is happening on server side.
Benifit. U can make a request from cleint and ftp the file client sit.
Are u interested in more details and code, pls send a mail to me

  • Replication solutions with Oracle 8i

    Hello,
I'm looking for solutions to make real time replications from an Oracle 8i database.
    For more details :
    - we have an existing database with Oracle 8i
    - we want to replicate this database: the replicated database will be used by a web application.
    - we need the replication to be in real-time
For the moment i didn't find much informations on the web and it seems that replication solutions for the version 8i are quiet limited.
If someone have any idea on how i can do this, it would be helpfull.
    Thanks,

Among the problems, though, is that there are numerous ways to architect a replication process. That architecture requires you to make various trade-offs. Without understanding what you're attempting to gain in a business sense from the replication process, though, it's impossible to even attempt to figure out which trade-offs to make.
One option would be to create a new database for the reporting app and create a fast-refreshable materialized view in the reporting database for every table in the source system. In the source system, you'd then create materialized view logs on every table in the source database. If you want the reporting system to be transactionally consistent, you'd need to put the various materialized views into one or more refresh groups and schedule those refresh groups to run every 5 minutes.
That would probably get close to having data on the reporting system within 10 minutes of it being created on the source system. The downsides, though, would include
    - Every transaction on the source system now needs to synchronously write to the materialized view logs. This is roughly equivalent to creating a new trigger on every table in your system, which can be a decent load.
    - The reporting system will have to poll the source system for data changes every few minutes. That's likely to put a pretty decent load on the source system.
    - Making DDL or large DML changes to the source requires the source system admins to be conscious of the destination system's needs (the destination system's materialized view may need to be recreated and an initial full refresh may need to be done which may impact the timing of the change on the source system).
    - The source system admins (and the destination system admins) have to monitor the refresh process, the size of the materialized view logs, etc.
    - Spreading information across multiple systems increases the liklihood of improper data disclosure because you have less ability to figure out who has access to any particular piece of data, for example.
For a reporting application, I'm really hard pressed to imagine that these downsides are worth whatever benefit you're trying to achieve.

  • Oracle Text with Oracle TimesTen

    Hi!
I'm trying to use Oracle Text with Oracle TimesTen In-Memory. In this customer, we are using Oracle Text to index the names of the company clients. There are about 13 million names to index. We're trying to speed up even more the search using Oracle TimesTen.
Does anybody as any experience using simultanely this two technologies?
    Thanks in advance

TimesTen doesn't support the CONTEXT indextype or CONTAINS clause (or other domain indexes/operators), so you can't create Oracle Text indexes in it.

  • Oracle Timesten with oracle apex

I use Oracle 11gr2 and apex 4.2.4 how can i use oracle timesten with oracle apex?
I want to use timesten to improve  performance on report by adding two tables to oracle timsten.

As far as I am aware, recent (11g onwards) releases of Oracle Heterogenous services do not work with TimesTen as they now require an OBC 3.x driver and the TimesTen driver is currently 2.0. Even if they did work, this would not be a useful solution. It might allow Apex to access TimesTen after a fashion (though that is far from certain) but the performance would be very poor due to all the network hops and software layers between the application and TimesTen.
If you put one or two tables in TimesTen then one problem from an Apex perspective is that it is now dealing with two databases; the TimesTen cache containing two tables and the oracle database containing all the other tables. Is Apex designed to cope with this? Does it have the concept of data located in multiple databases where one of them is not the Oracle database? Also, do you need transactions or queries (joins) that span the TimesTen tables and the tables in Oracle DB? If so then this also  will not work as that is not possible today.
I have to say that as far as Apex goes I think this is likely a non-starter. However, if you do try it and have any success then please do post the results here as we'd be interested to hear about it.

  • How can we achive active/active cluster setup with Oracle

    Hi Experts,
How can we achieve active/active database setup with oracle WITHOUT USING RAC.. As far as I know it's impossible (unless I'm wrong)..
We are using Oracle 11.2.0.1 64bit on Windows 2008 server. We deployed Oracle FailSafe but that's more of an active/passive solution based on a windows cluster.
The other solution we were thinking about is to use DataGuard and replication.. two servers.. the oracle instance running on one server generating logs, and the other server receive the logs and apply them to the physical standby db.. Still, this is not a real active/active setup.
So, is it possible to run 2 servers in an active/active cluster and have the oracle database in an active/active setup or have the instance running on multiple nodes (at the same time)?
    Thanks

Let me give you a brief explanation of what the situation is and you can be the judge..
My client have four databases with the smallest one being 20GB and the biggest around the 35gb (SGA 750mb to 1.4gb (Tiny by DB standards) and probably on a normal day, you can run all four of them on a decent desktop).. The DBs are used to keep track of people information. Through out the year, the databases are almost sitting idle, and by idle I mean, the odd update here and there, the odd report..etc. No hard real processing of any sort. Two days of the year (end of year) we have all the operators consolidating records and what's not and they will be pounding away entering data and updating the tables - with hourly reports that goes to 3rd parties. The client expects a 99.99 up time and availability during those 2 days.
Now, tell me, How can I justify using RAC and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and what ever extra costs introduced by the complexity of the environment for the above scenario knowing that I don't have any real use for RAC for 363 days of the year; and we MIGHT need it for 2 days of the year? This is the dilemma we're facing.
    Thanks

  • Question on replication in Oracle 10G Release 2

    Good day,
I have a few questions on setting up replication that fits my scenario described below. Thank you in advance for reading and answering my post.
    Scenario
I need to replicate 100-200 tables from the first OLTP server to the second DSS server that is read-only. The servers are physically located in different countries. Both servers use Oracle 10G Release 2. Required frequency of refreshes is 1-3 hours.
    Questions
    1. Is it optimal to use materialized views with fast/force refreshes for implementation of this scenario? If no, what are the better options?
    2. How do network interruptions and latency affect stability of work of replication with materialized views?
    3. How big is additional performance overhead at OLTP (source) server due to setting up replication with materialized views?

    1) I guess it depends on how you define "optimal". It's certainly a reasonable option. You might also look at Streams or even logical standby databases. There are various trade-offs involved, so it really depends on your environment.
    2) What does "stability of work of replication" mean, exactly? Obviously, if the network fails, the replication job(s) will generate errors. Depending on how you set things up, the replication process will be retried after increasing intervals until it succeeds.
    3) Maintaining materialized view logs on the OLTP system could certainly impact performance-- the logs have to be maintained synchronously with the OLTP transactions. That may or may not noticably impact OLTP transaction performance-- it's probably roughly equivalent to putting a trigger on each of the 100-200 tables. Something like Streams is designed to put less load on the source system because changes are captured asynchronously.

  • Installation of CRM 2007 in Windows with oracle and cluster environment

    Dear Experts,
We are about to start the installation of CRM 2007 (ABAP+JAVA) with
Oracle 10g on Windows x64 in cluster environment. In the SAPINST dialog
box under High availability option, I could see installation options like ASCS
Instance, SCS Instance, First MSCS node, Database Instance, Additional
MSCS Node, Enqueue Replication Server, Central Instance and Dialog
    Instance.
I have gone through the installation guide. I have below queries
regarding the same. Can you please clarify the same
    1) Our requirement is we want to have an ACTIVE-ACTIVE cluster setup
with sap service running in Node A and Database running in Node B. Can
we have this setup in ABAP+JAVA setup
    2) Also,in the SAPINST dialog box as said above except last two
(Central and Dialoge instance) as per standard installation guide are
to be installed in shared drives as per the requirement. But, central
and dialog are said to be installed locally on any one node in MSCS or
in separate server. As per my understanding Dialog instance will be
used for load balancing which we do not require now. Hence I feel this
is optional in our case. Where as Central Instance I am not able to
understand why this option is for? Is it mandatory to be installed or optional. If
so, when I installed it in one of the MSCS node the incase of failover
how does it effect the system. As per my understanding ASCS and SCS
    comprise central instance.
Please clarify and thanks in advance.

  • Can we use replication usings oracle 10g steams for EBS r12 database?

    HI,
We are using EBS 12.0.6 and database 10.2.0.3 on linux 32-bit/64-bit OS (Multi-Node env).
Actually We want to decrease the load of custom reports on actual production system, so thats why
we need reports server and as my past experience I had used oracle streams for replication with simple schema based replication and tablespace replication also.
So, please educate me, that can i used the oracle 10g streams for EBS schemas like APPS, GL ,INV, PO, ONT, ODM, AR, AP, CM etc?
Please provide us the above related env docs and road Map.
If you have any other way to create the Report Server?

    Hi,
We are not in a position to upgrade the EBS from 12.0.6 to 12.1, because this is lengthy task, but we had already tested technically it in test env, but functional testing in pending.
Now we want to immediate solution if possible, because this is production?
    So, please suggest another.
