Tiny font size on G3 menus

I recently gave a Bondi Blue 233 Mhz G3 iMac to my parents. I noticed before giving it to them that the fonts on the menu bars were very small, both in Finder and the applications. I tried everything I could think of to increase the size, but nothing worked. I also posted a question on my local Apple Users' discussion board but no one could help me.
So far my parents have been able to see the words OK, but I'd like to increase the size if possible. I increased the size of the icons in Finder so they're really huge. My parents are in their 80s and this is their first Mac. My sister gave them a PC a few years ago but it was too confusing and they got rid of it. I'm hoping the iMac will at least get them off of WebTV!
By the way, I'm about 400 miles away from my parents so unless there's a really simple solution that I can walk them through via phone or email, I might not be able to try any suggestions until I visit them in August.
Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I assume the screen resolution is at the default 1024x768. You could change it to 800x600 to make it easier on the eyes. The other option is to explore Easy Access (I'm assuming this iMac is still in OS 8.6/9 - it's called Universal Access under OS X) which provides a Zoom facility. If it is OS X you're using on the iMac then the VoiceOver facility will read out commands / OS options (Apple and F5 toggles this on/off).

Thank you so much.  You are absolutely right.  I will have to reduce the screen density when I work with those programs.
Thanks for your trouble and regards

  • Can the font size in the menus be changed?

I have a cinema display 30" and if i've been working a bit, i find that the very small text size in the menus, including the toolbar itself, are too small to read without moving across the table to the monitor. Is there a way to enlarge the font size in these menus? same goes for the toolbar in safari, but that's another issue.

Sometimes this can be altered by going inside the "plist" for the project and making specific changes. It is beyond my scope, but someone on these forums should be talented enough to suss it out.

  • How do I change the font size in the menus and toolbars

The font size is too small for my old eyes and I would like to make the font size larger in the upper toolbars (address bar, etc.) and menus. Thanks, Jeff

  • Font size - Drop down menus

My PSE-8, newly installed on windows 7 platform has very small font sizes and I can only read with difficulty (aging eyes) the drop down menu headers; they are about font size 6 maybe even 5.   There are same font size problems elsewhere in the menus but I can`t remember where.
Does anyone know if and how these font sizes can be increased ?  Much appreciate your time to direct me to the solution to this most annoying feature.

Thanks for the response - but, been there - done that, and . . .
My dpi resolution is already at 150 % the max default setting and there is no change.  Is sure wish this could have worked.

  • Ggoogle search pages and Blogger's "create new post" pane have teeny tiny font sizes. How do I normalize them?

Google's search results page has a font that is miniscule compared to other pages.
I have tried adjusting the font in the tools>options>content>advanced with no change.
I've also tried resetting the view>zoom feature to no avail.
Blogger's "create new post" pane had an even smaller font, if that's possible.
So far the tiny font phenomenon seems to only affect Google pages, though *'''''not'''''* my iGoogle page.
    Any help would appreciated :)
    Thank you!

You can do that with a custom stylesheet in userContent.css or with the Stylish extension.

    * Stylish: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/stylish/

    domain(google.com) {
    body, body * { font-size: 1em !important; }

You can add more domains to use that rule by adding the domains as a comma separated list like
    domain(google.com), domain(blog.com)

  • Tiny font size

    Hi,
I am using a 20 inch screen with a native resolution of 1600 x 1200. The font size of the articles and blogs appears really tiny and thus hard to read.
I would suggest to use the same font size as in the forums.
Or at least make the font size customizable for the user. If I use Ctrl+Mouse wheel I can change the font size of the left navigation pane but unfortunately it has no effect on the content pane of articles and blogs.
    Cheers,
    Marcus.

    Are you sure?
    Look at this:

    Search for: <font size=2>
But in future I will leave the font size as default and hope that the font become bigger in standard. My eyes are not the best.

  • Tiny Font Size in Bridge

I have a running battle between running my monitor (a crt) at native resolution (1600x1200) and the resulting, almost unreadable font size in the Favorites/Folders column. The metadata is much larger and entirely adequate. Why is this so and what do I need to do to make the folder information font size the same as the metadata?

Unfortunately this will require some new programming by Adobe and there's no way to know when that will happen. In the meantime, the only option I think you have available to you is to change your resolution so that your monitor is using fewer pixels per inch.
Kinda blows the whole value of the newer monitor but I suppose you can switch back and forth from low res when you are working in Bridge to high res when you are working in PS.
Sorry, but for the time being, that's about it.
    Best,
    Gary

  • Dreamweaver CS6: font size in menus too small on 1920 x 1080 screen. [was: Dreamweaver]

    Hi,
I am using adobe Dreamweaver cs6 and my Laptop screen size 15.5 (39.4 cms) wide (1920 x 1080). My Dreamweaver software top tab menus like File, Edit, View, Insert, Modify, Format etc. these are menus font size too small in my laptop display so i am facing problem in development. I have try to resolve this issue through change to desktop resolution but after change the resolution of window property i have get only little bit change in font size of tab menus but i am not satisfied with this change if you have any other solution for this problem please reply me or email me on [personal information deleted by moderator]
    Thanks
    Parveen Kumar

Unfortunately, the only way to change the font size in the Dreamweaver interface is by changing the display settings of your computer. On Windows, you can change the size of text and other items without changing the resolution by selecting Start > Control Panel > Display. I don't think there is an equivalent on a Mac.
If you find the size of the menu items a problem, I suggest that you submit a feature request through the form at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.

  • How to increase the font size in macbook pro

    Hello,
I am about to loose my EYESIGHT due to this tiny font size of Apple....!
Can somebody help me to INCREASE the font size Please.

Finder>View>Show view options:  To change the icon & text sizes
System Preferences>Displays>Display:  Play around w/the resolutions to increase the Finder menu font size.
    System Preferences>Accessibility>Zoom is another option.
Browsers:  Check its Preferences to increase the font size as well as their menu bars.  Some have Aa or - + symbols to increase their fonts.
FF has an add-on called Theme Font & Size Changer.

  • Setting overall font size?

Mom and Dad don't like the full resolution 'tiny' font size on their new iMac. If I set the resolution to 'lower' everything gets much bigger on the screen ... but then awkward, and spills outside the screen frame.
Is there a way to keep the high resolution AND make all the general screen fonts larger?
Any help woud be most appreciated...
    Ben

Unfortunately, there is no system-wide way to change the font size in Mac OS X. And LCD screens work at their best only at their native (high) resolution. So we are kind of stuck with regard to font size. Of course we can increase the text size in Safari and in Mail, but most menu and system fonts are not adjustable at all.
There has been talk of a feature called "resolution independence" which was rumored to be introduced with Leopard. Unfortunately not yet. A feature such as this would make it possible to change font sizes of the GUI freely while using the LCD screen at its native resolution. We can only hope that this will appear in some future update to OS X.

  • Menu font size

I have so much stuff in my menu bar that some of it gets hidden when I use applications with many menu items across the top (i.e. Firefox). Is there a way to reduce the font-size on the menus to make room for my other menubar items?
    -marc

Well, there is the basic stuff: Battery status, Switch Users, Volume control, Spotlight.
And the following that I run: MenuCalenderClock, Butler, Wifi Indicator, MenuMeters.
I'm running out of space up there and the menu fonts could be smaller. I imagine it can be done....?

  • Is there a way to auto increase font size in Mail?

Some mail I receive uses a tiny font size.  I click "Command plus" to increase the font on these.  Is there a way to have Mail automatically increase any font size that is below a certain size?

    Hello 4thSpace,
Have you tried increasing the fond size in the preferences?
Mail menu > Preferences > Fonts & Colors.
Play around with the 'Message font' and 'Fixed-width font' settings. If changes do not seem to be taking effect, restart mail after every change (you shouldn't have to).

  • After the recent update the entire browser, including menus, icons, and everything on the web page, are too small. Fonts are smaller, pics are smaller, zoom settings will not remain universal. Minimum font size will make text readable, but all pics are to

The new update has screwed up my browser settings, I cannot get them fixed and Im pissed because my computer is an eye-sore to read until this is fixed! EVERYTHING in the browser is smaller, fonts, menus, icons, web page content, pictures, tables, etc. I have set the minimum font in the settings and the text is just to a point where it is easily readable at the maximum size setting, but all the menus and icons are still tiny and hard to read. The last version I had installed worked fine with no add-ons needed. Everything fit the screen fine and was easily readable without modification. I want this version off my PC and I want the last version I had back on but I dont know what version it was!!!!!!! ARARGGGG
In fact, this stupid troubleshooting window that I am in filling out this form doesnt fit the page right at all, and edges of the text are cut off, so Im not even sure what some of these boxes are asking for!!

*Try to adjust the DPI setting, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/layout.css.dpi
*Try to set the pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 2 on the about:config page.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
If you need to increase (or decrease) the font size on websites then look at:

  • Can hardly read tiny font on my Juno email page and can't find how to change font size or color, which is light blue.

That's it in a nutshell. I never had this problem with IE, but when I changed to Firefox suddenly there's all my emails listed in tiny blue font. Can't find anything on the Address Bar to change it.
When I open the emails, they're fine--but the page listing them is awful. And light blue font on white background makes reading it more painful on the eyes.

My wife had the same problem. Click on the tools icon in your web browser and go to the "zoom" feature. You can adjust the font size there.
