TLS not working

IMAP communication between a mail server and our Unity Connection 7.x server has stopped working.  The end user stated:
"The problem we observed from our server, and which is reproducible with the openssl tool, is that the Unity Connection server doesn't respond to a login request performed over STARTTLS. Doing a simple IMAP STARTTLS test results in a hung login attempt and eventual timeout:
client: # openssl s_client -connect unityservername.domain.com:143 -starttls imap
server: <valid response>
client: 0 LOGIN username password
<no response, timeout"
On the Unity Connection server I turned on micro traces for IMAP.  In one of the resultant log files, I see this:
"09/30/2010 08:27:48.687 |3490,ClientSocket-42 10.0.24.181:-28448,,CuImapSvr,11,SSL_accept:error in SSLv3 read client certificate A: [0xFFFFFFFF; --Unknown HRESULT--]|"
The timestamp on this message corresponded with a failed test attempt.  I've tried restarting the IMAP server service.  No changes were made on the Unity Connection side between the time that this was working and the time is stopped working.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Here's what the tech on the client-side observed:
"The problem we observed from Zimbra ZCS, and which is reproducible with the openssl tool, is that the Unity server does not respond to a login request performed over STARTTLS. Doing a simple IMAP STARTTLS test results in a hung login attempt and eventual timeout:
client: # openssl s_client -connect unityservername.domain.com:143 -starttls imap
server:
client: 0 LOGIN username password
So the way I interpret this (and I could be totally wrong) is that the client makes a IMAP connection over port 143 and either requests TLS or tries TLS if it is offered.  At that point, the login fails.
The user tried a test and responded with this:
"Just did one a couple minutes ago- did SSL on 993 first w/success, then did the unencrypted one on 143 which threw the 'Generic Test Failure'"

  • TLS not working with Openssl Certs

    Hi I have been struggleing with a certificate problem for about two weeks now with no joy. Almost all the forums, tutorials and examples etc. I have tried are simply not working. Without fail I get the following exception or similar:
    [Root exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: No trusted certificate found]
    Basically I know I have a valid certificate, because when I use an ldap client with just the self generated cacert.pem there are no problems and a TCP dump shows the encrypted data.
    My setup is as follows I have an openLDAP server running on Debian. I generated my own certificates as per: http://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/185.html
    All I want to do now is import these generated certs/keys with keytool, and be able to use theme with TLS.
    When importing the certs via java ldap browsers they work fine, but as soon as I try use my own TLS client like the StartTLS.java sample provided by the java tutorial I get the above exception. I'm probably missing some piece of the puzzle.
    Please if anyone else knows how to set this up correctly using the certs I have generated via the openldap example above I would really appreciate your help. There are alot of examples pertaining to app servers etc. but nothing I could find to talk to OpenLDAP.
    regards
    ed

    On a similar occation i did extend the javax.net.ssl.X509TrustManager and upon generating the connecton I first did initialized the ssl context with that trust manager.
    something like
    SSLContext sslContext = SSLContext.getInstance("SSLv3");
    MyTrustManager tm = new MyTrustManager(....);
    TrustManager tms[] = {tm};
    sslContext.init(null, tms, null);     HttpsURLConnection.setDefaultSSLSocketFactory(sslContext.getSocketFactory()); //or on ur corresponding tls connection classdo that before getting any https connection or alike tls connections
    In case that does not bring you further, post some stack trace and further settings.

  • WPA2-Enterprise TLS not working in iOS 5

    We have over 200 iPhone on our Corporate Wi-Fi network. We started having calls from our users saying that their Wi-Fi is not working anymore since they upgraded to iOS 5. It was working fine with previous version of iOS. We are using WPA2-Enterprise with TLS authentication. We were able to reproduce the issue. With my iPad, i'm not able anmore to connect to our corporate wi-fi on both vendor we use (Cisco and Motorola). The SSId was  hidden, we tryed to broadcast it with no change. The only thing both vendor are sharing is the TLS authentication for the WPA2 auth. Can anyone help us ?

    I had to:
    1) connect the Ipad with a cable and enable "synch via wi-fi" option.
    2) eject the ipad
    3) restart the MAC
    attempt synch --- FAILED
    after looking at my set-up the MAC (or PC) must be conneced to the same wireless connection. My router has dual band capability. one connection is 2.4 ghz with one name, and 5 ghz with another name. Even though ALL the computers have same workgroup name, wi-fi synch would not work unless they were all on the same wireless connection (same ssID). go figure. once my mac was connected to the 2.4 Ghz SSID, wi-fi sync worked fine.

  • EAP-TLS not working with IOS 4.1

    Hello,
    I've lot of iPhone in my enterprise,
    I've configured it putting user certificate and authenticate on the wireless network using EAP-TLS mode, choosing user certificate and give the username, and it was working.
    sometime "can't connect to network" append, but after lot of tries, it work.
    when the network is configured, it's working all the time.
    since 4.1.3, I can't configure this network, I can't approve my server radius certificate (so I succeed to authenticate from server)
    I've already tried to put my root CA certificate in iPhone, doesn't change anything (It should be trusted ! all servers certificate are from this CA)
    I've tried to preconfigure this wireless network with iphone configuration utility, not working.
    Iphone 3GS, iphone 4 since IOS 4.1.3

    Here is the dump log obtened via Iphone configuration utility, with certificate deployed but configuration manually

  • EAP-TLS not working on WinXP client, but does work on W2k?

    Hi
    So I've got EAP-TLS setup using a W2K IAS server as RADIUS, W2K certificate server and cisco 1100 APs. I've got computer certs on four notebooks of which 2 are W2k and the other two are XP. On the W2k PCs I am able to pop in my wireless 350 card and get an IP before logging in (as seen via the dhcp server) and then once logged in, the user cert is used to further authenticate and remain connected to the network (as seen via the IAS logs). Yet when I try to pop in my wireless card on the XP PCs, I get no IP address and nothing ever shows up in the IAS logs...the 1100 ap says that its associated but nothing more. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks
    Jason

    Jason,
    Can you authenticate from the XP clients using LEAP or something other then EAP-TLS?
    If not i would look at upgrading the 350 card drivers on the XP machines to the latest.
    I have had problems before using the cardbus pcmcia adapters on XP, when i installed the latest drivers it worked.
    Let me know how you get on?

  • EAP-TLS not working

    Hello,
    I have deployed PEAP working well, but not able to make EAP-TLS work. I've followed the deployment guide from Cisco. I can't see anything in the ACS log, and with a debug radius in the AP i can only see a loop sending Access-request and Access-Challenge all the time. I can't see the exchange of certificates between the ACS and the supplicant. I have XP SP2 installed, maybe a problem with SP2?
    Should I issue the certificate of the client to the same person who is actually logged in the machine? Should I put a domain in the supplicant?
    I'm using ACS database authentication.
    If you need more info please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Ruben

  • Dreamweaver CS 5.5 not working with Godaddy FTP with TLS/SSL

    I've upgraded to CS 5.5 and tried to connect to a client's Godaddy account with FTP with TLS/SSL it fails.  Works perfectly with my mac app Transmit every time as it always has.   It doesn't work with implicit or explicit settings with authentication set to none or otherwise.
    Can someone please let me know if Dreamweaver will ever be compatible with FTP with TLS/SSL and Godaddy?  Or is there some setting I can try that will make it work now somehow?
    Been waiting years for this....

    SnakEyez02 wrote:
    First, that's a Godaddy problem if their security isn't up to par.
    That may be the case that Godaddy is also at fault, but every other FTP app I use with Godaddy works fine.  It's just Dreamweaver and has always been just Dreamweaver not working with a secure connection to Godaddy.  Considering Godaddy is the largest webhost in the USA, you'd think Adobe would have fixed this years ago.  I should also mention I'm not endorsing Godaddy and I understand there's plenty of people that don't like Godaddy for very good reasons.
    Sent you PM with FTP account with Godaddy yesterday.  Thank you for taking a look!
    UPDATE: Whoops, I see you responded via private message already.  I'll paste most of it here in hopes it helps others to understand the issue:
    via SnakEyez02 PM:
    Ok this took a lot of digging.  I won't say it's not a DW issue 100% and I will report a bug for your problem, but DW is not the problem alone Godaddy needs to share the blame here for a bad certificate.  Here is what is happening:
    I'll start with DW:
    - The settings are correct that were in the post.  Port 21, FTP explicit, and the authentication should be set to None (encyprtion only).  This is where the transmission is encrypted using SSL, but the certificate is shared and not specific to the domain owner.  That is the difference between DW's "none" and "trusted".  It's a poor choice of words I'll give them that.  However, Godaddy seems to want all connections to be trusted thus the other error you get when you turn on the None option.  Now could DW do what Transmit does, warn you and write in an unsigned certificate into the Keychain app, probably, is it best practice for security reasons to "Trust" an unsigned certificate probably not.
    Now Transmit:
    - As explained above Transmit opens up a prompt to override and create a fake-trusted signed certificate.  Thus by forcing the OS to think a legitimate certificate is there it gets you through albeit through unconventional methods.
    The problem:
    - A good portion of this problem lies with Godaddy.  Now I use a shared hosting account and set one up on an independant host for a friend of mine and both of them accept the shared certificates (SSL explicit).  The difference is the hostname of the certificate.  I ran a traceroute (from Network Utility in Utilities folder) on your website and came up with the following address: 173.201.23x.x.
    The problem is that the certificate on your server is actually not for that server which is the reason DW seems to have such an issue with it.  The SSL certificate that Godaddy put on your shared server is for host - 173.201.19x.5x.  As you can see, it's a certificate for another server.  Honestly the fact that Panic's Transmit allows this override scares me a little bit and the fact that Godaddy never noticed this issue either scares me to.  So while DW could write in a bad certificate I can see why this is happening.
    I know there is not much solice in my answer because it still doesn't alleviate the problem that you have with DW connecting.  Unfortunately I do not have a workaround despite my numerous attempts to try and gain access over a secure connection.  One alternative you could ask Godaddy for in the meantime is an SSH connection which would allow you to use SFTP instead of FTPS.  But that's a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
    If you think of anything else feel free to bounce any ideas off me I don't mind.  Good luck in getting this solved and I will post a bug report to make Adobe aware of the issue.
    Thank you for looking into this issue in depth like you have!
    I think the issue might be that Godaddy is applying cost saving measures to keep their prices down in the way they implement their certificates (but it also wouldn't surprise me to know it's simply ineptitude on Godaddy's part either).  I'm not sure I fault Panic with Transmit much at all because it clearly warns you about the certificate and it's your choice to continue.  And, as it stands now, it's much safer to continue to connect that way with Transmit than to stop and connect with no encryption at all at a public hotspot.
    As it stands now, you really shouldn't connect to Godaddy with Dreamweaver at a public hotspot unless you set up an SSH tunnel with your connection first.  But enabling SSH is an added expense in many ways including paying for the service, using more computer resources for tunneling and time setting it up and implementation... all because Dreamweaver won't just allow developers the option like Transmit does.
    Once again, thank you for looking at this and I hope someone at Adobe finally address this issue for the security of its customers who use Godaddy (which is often not their choice and was, instead, the choice of their clients to use Godaddy as a webhost).
    Just a side note, I contacted Godaddy support about this several years ago and they were unresponsive and even hostile about it  - So that's definitely another vote against Godaddy from me as well.

  • RDP does not work after disabling TLS 1.0

    RDP does not work after disabling TLS 1.0
    Had to re-enable it .... what can i do to make it work with TLS 1.2 ??

    Hi,
    Disabling TLS 1.0 will break RDP under default settings.  Did the security scan say specifically to disable TLS 1.0?  Normally you should be able to disable use of certain ciphers or prioritize ciphers.  You may want to try IISCrypto, on
    it you click the PCI button, then Apply button, then restart your server.
    Additionally there are still a substantial number of web browsers in use that do not support TLS 1.1/1.2.
    If you would like to continue with TLS 1.0 disabled you may change the RDP Security Layer.  To do this please open Terminal Services Configuration (tsconfig.msc), double-click RDP-Tcp, change Security Layer to RDP Security Layer.
    IMPORTANT:  You are vulnerable to MITM attack when using RDP Security Layer because there is no Server Authentication.  If you are running RDP over a VPN connection and there is no risk for interception then this may be okay.  I recommend
    you re-enable TLS 1.0 and have a ssl certificate from a public authority set on your RDP-Tcp listener.

    I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails. This just started happening. I have an iPhone and I can send emails from my phone fine. It's just not working on my Macbook. Every time I try to send an email it goes straight to my outbox. Can anyone help?

    Thank you for heading me in the right direction.  I reset my Mail account for Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net:(customer ID)@att.net (instead of smtp.att.yahoo.com, per Apple's online troubleshooting information).   I'm not sure what "(Offline)" means when it appears at the end of my Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)??  In the Advanced box I clicked on "Use custom port:  465" and checked "Use Secure Sockets Layer."  Authentication:  Password; I have correct User Name and Password put in.  After doing all this, when I try to send emails again today, they go directly to the Outbox and sit there.
    What's curious is that my first sent email this morning did go out using the Outgoing Mail Server, smtp.att.yahoo.com: (customer ID)@att.net(Offline) but subsequent emails I tried to send with this server were rejected with the message:  "Cannot send message using the server smtp.att.yahoo.com (etc.).  The SMTP server doesn't support TLS(SSL) on port 587.  Verify your account settings and try again."  That's when I tried resetting my Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net (etc.), as mentioned above, and was unsuccessful in sending out any further emails.  I guess my next step is to contact my email service provider, AT&T, and see if they can help me.  Thanks, again, for taking the time to respond and for giving me your input!  Much appreciated!

    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
    # will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk.  If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2"
    # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
    # ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
    # directive.
    # Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
    # prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
    #Listen 12.34.56.78:80
    Listen 80

    Verify that you are using the correct server credentials:
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 993

  • Apache not working

    Hi,
    I am new to this forum. I bought Mac book pro few months back. I am working on a project that involves Jboss. Whenever I start Apache and type "http://localhost/" on the browser, the result is "It works!".(But when I hit refresh, it says "Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “localhost”."). There are no "httpd" process running in the Activity Monitor.
    I tried to configure, still the same issue. I checked and none of the other services is listening to the same port:80. I have posted the complete content of httpd.conf file in the"/etc/apache2".(I apologize for the long thread)
    1. This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the

    6. for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    1. Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    2. what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    3. consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    1. Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    2. of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    3. server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    4. with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/private/var/log/apache2/foo_log"
    5. with ServerRoot set to "/usr" will be interpreted by the
    6. server as "/usr//private/var/log/apache2/foo_log".
    1. ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    2. configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    1. Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    2. ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    3. at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    4. httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "/usr"
    1. Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
    2. ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
    3. directive.
    1. Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
    2. prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
    #Listen 12.34.56.78:80
    #Listen 80
    1. Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
    1. To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
    2. have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
    3. directives contained in it are actually available before they are used.
    4. Statically compiled modules (those listed by `httpd -l') do not need
    1. Example:

    1. If you wish httpd to run as a different user or group, you must run
    2. httpd as root initially and it will switch.
    1. User/Group: The name (or #number) of the user/group to run httpd as.
    2. It is usually good practice to create a dedicated user and group for
    3. running httpd, as with most system services.
    User _www
    Group _www
    </IfModule>
    </IfModule>
    1. 'Main' server configuration
    1. The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
    2. server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
    3. <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
    4. any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    1. All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    2. in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    3. virtual host being defined.
    1. ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server should be
    2. e-mailed. This address appears on some server-generated pages, such
    3. as error documents. e.g. [email protected]
    ServerAdmin [email protected]
    1. ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses to identify itself.
    2. This can often be determined automatically, but we recommend you specify
    3. it explicitly to prevent problems during startup.
    1. If your host doesn't have a registered DNS name, enter its IP address here.
    #ServerName www.example.com:80
    1. DocumentRoot: The directory out of which you will serve your
    2. documents. By default, all requests are taken from this directory, but
    3. symbolic links and aliases may be used to point to other locations.
    DocumentRoot "/Library/WebServer/Documents"
    1. Each directory to which Apache has access can be configured with respect
    2. to which services and features are allowed and/or disabled in that
    3. directory (and its subdirectories).
    1. First, we configure the "default" to be a very restrictive set of
    2. features.
    <Directory />
    Options FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
    Order deny,allow
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    1. Note that from this point forward you must specifically allow
    2. particular features to be enabled - so if something's not working as
    3. you might expect, make sure that you have specifically enabled it
    4. below.
    1. This should be changed to whatever you set DocumentRoot to.
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents">
    1. Possible values for the Options directive are "None", "All",
    2. or any combination of:
    3. Indexes Includes FollowSymLinks SymLinksifOwnerMatch ExecCGI MultiViews
    1. Note that "MultiViews" must be named explicitly --- "Options All"
    2. doesn't give it to you.
    1. The Options directive is both complicated and important. Please see
    2. http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/core.html#options
    3. for more information.
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
    1. AllowOverride controls what directives may be placed in .htaccess files.
    2. It can be "All", "None", or any combination of the keywords:
    3. Options FileInfo AuthConfig Limit
    AllowOverride None
    1. Controls who can get stuff from this server.
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    1. DirectoryIndex: sets the file that Apache will serve if a directory
    2. is requested.
    <IfModule dir_module>
    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
    </IfModule>
    1. The following lines prevent .htaccess and .htpasswd files from being
    2. viewed by Web clients.

    1. ErrorLog: The location of the error log file.
    2. If you do not specify an ErrorLog directive within a <VirtualHost>
    3. container, error messages relating to that virtual host will be
    4. logged here. If you do define an error logfile for a <VirtualHost>
    5. container, that host's errors will be logged there and not here.
    ErrorLog "/private/var/log/apache2/error_log"
    1. LogLevel: Control the number of messages logged to the error_log.
    2. Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit,
    3. alert, emerg.
    LogLevel warn
    <IfModule logconfigmodule>
    1. The following directives define some format nicknames for use with
    2. a CustomLog directive (see below).
    LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"" combined
    LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b" common
    <IfModule logio_module>
    1. You need to enable mod_logio.c to use %I and %O

    1. The location and format of the access logfile (Common Logfile Format).
    2. If you do not define any access logfiles within a <VirtualHost>
    1. container, they will be logged here. Contrariwise, if you do
    2. define per-<VirtualHost> access logfiles, transactions will be
    3. logged therein and not in this file.
    CustomLog "/private/var/log/apache2/access_log" common
    1. If you prefer a logfile with access, agent, and referer information
    2. (Combined Logfile Format) you can use the following directive.
    #CustomLog "/private/var/log/apache2/access_log" combined
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule alias_module>
    1. Redirect: Allows you to tell clients about documents that used to
    2. exist in your server's namespace, but do not anymore. The client
    3. will make a new request for the document at its new location.
    4. Example:
    5. Redirect permanent /foo http://www.example.com/bar
    1. Alias: Maps web paths into filesystem paths and is used to
    2. access content that does not live under the DocumentRoot.
    3. Example:
    4. Alias /webpath /full/filesystem/path
    1. If you include a trailing / on /webpath then the server will
    2. require it to be present in the URL. You will also likely
    3. need to provide a <Directory> section to allow access to
    4. the filesystem path.
    1. ScriptAlias: This controls which directories contain server scripts.
    2. ScriptAliases are essentially the same as Aliases, except that
    3. documents in the target directory are treated as applications and
    4. run by the server when requested rather than as documents sent to the
    5. client. The same rules about trailing "/" apply to ScriptAlias
    6. directives as to Alias.
    ScriptAliasMatch ^/cgi-bin/((?!(?i:webobjects)).*$) "/Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/$1"
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule cgid_module>
    1. ScriptSock: On threaded servers, designate the path to the UNIX
    2. socket used to communicate with the CGI daemon of mod_cgid.
    #Scriptsock /private/var/run/cgisock
    </IfModule>
    1. "/Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables" should be changed to whatever your ScriptAliased
    2. CGI directory exists, if you have that configured.
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables">
    AllowOverride None
    Options None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    1. DefaultType: the default MIME type the server will use for a document
    2. if it cannot otherwise determine one, such as from filename extensions.
    3. If your server contains mostly text or HTML documents, "text/plain" is
    4. a good value. If most of your content is binary, such as applications
    5. or images, you may want to use "application/octet-stream" instead to
    6. keep browsers from trying to display binary files as though they are
    7. text.
    DefaultType text/plain
    <IfModule mime_module>
    1. TypesConfig points to the file containing the list of mappings from
    2. filename extension to MIME-type.
    TypesConfig /private/etc/apache2/mime.types
    1. AddType allows you to add to or override the MIME configuration
    2. file specified in TypesConfig for specific file types.
    #AddType application/x-gzip .tgz
    1. AddEncoding allows you to have certain browsers uncompress
    2. information on the fly. Note: Not all browsers support this.
    #AddEncoding x-compress .Z
    #AddEncoding x-gzip .gz .tgz
    1. If the AddEncoding directives above are commented-out, then you
    2. probably should define those extensions to indicate media types:
    AddType application/x-compress .Z
    AddType application/x-gzip .gz .tgz
    1. AddHandler allows you to map certain file extensions to "handlers":
    2. actions unrelated to filetype. These can be either built into the server
    3. or added with the Action directive (see below)
    1. To use CGI scripts outside of ScriptAliased directories:
    2. (You will also need to add "ExecCGI" to the "Options" directive.)
    #AddHandler cgi-script .cgi
    1. For type maps (negotiated resources):
    #AddHandler type-map var
    1. Filters allow you to process content before it is sent to the client.
    1. To parse .shtml files for server-side includes (SSI):
    2. (You will also need to add "Includes" to the "Options" directive.)
    #AddType text/html .shtml
    #AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .shtml
    </IfModule>
    1. The modmimemagic module allows the server to use various hints from the
    2. contents of the file itself to determine its type. The MIMEMagicFile
    3. directive tells the module where the hint definitions are located.
    #MIMEMagicFile /private/etc/apache2/magic
    1. Customizable error responses come in three flavors:
    2. 1) plain text 2) local redirects 3) external redirects
    1. Some examples:
    #ErrorDocument 500 "The server made a boo boo."
    #ErrorDocument 404 /missing.html
    #ErrorDocument 404 "/cgi-bin/missing_handler.pl"
    #ErrorDocument 402 http://www.example.com/subscription_info.html
    1. EnableMMAP and EnableSendfile: On systems that support it,
    2. memory-mapping or the sendfile syscall is used to deliver
    3. files. This usually improves server performance, but must
    1. be turned off when serving from networked-mounted
    2. filesystems or if support for these functions is otherwise
    3. broken on your system.
    #EnableMMAP off
    #EnableSendfile off
    1. 6894961
    TraceEnable off
    1. Supplemental configuration
    1. The configuration files in the /private/etc/apache2/extra/ directory can be
    2. included to add extra features or to modify the default configuration of
    3. the server, or you may simply copy their contents here and change as
    4. necessary.
    1. Server-pool management (MPM specific)
    Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-mpm.conf
