Tmxgta, a new installer including the guide in ncurses

tmxgta, a new installer made for comfortably reading instructions alongside your terminal.
The included guide covers the complete archwiki page "Beginners' Guide/Installation".
Everything is written in bash, and is licensed under GNU Free Documentation License.
Instead of showing a wall-of-text information is split up into sections. Read helpful information about your setup like partition layout and mountpoints. There is no need to switch virtual consoles and remember long commands. This is achieved by splitting up a virtual console into two windows using tmux. If you are familiar with tiling window managers you will feel right at home.

Architecture:
tmxgta.iso is now working on x86_64 and i686 architecture.
The image can be burned to a CD, mounted as an ISO file, or be directly written to a USB stick using a utility like `dd`.

Keyboard shortcuts:
There are only two keyboard shortcuts you need to know:
control-a + control-a : switches from the terminal to the guide and back
control-a : go to copy mode for scrolling up and down with the arrowkeys
or pageup / pagedown
Run tmxgta:
There are two possibilities to run tmxgta, it is recommended to download the .iso file.
Or get the script on github.
Known limitations: Looks bad on very small screens as in 600x800 pixels. The script is set to run only if 120 columns or more are available. Check 'tput cols' in the kernel console.

The new iso 06-01 is released, including updates from the beginner's guide. There is now a menu to select from various options for wireless network configuration. ( wifi-menu, netctl-profiles, netctl-auto). Also you can use the mouse for copy-pasting commands (with gpm), if you have a usb-mouse.

I don't think a PKGBUILD is all that useful, because this is about arch installation, whereas the aur is primarily used after installation. That said, if somebody wants to create a PKGBUILD, you are welcome.

Only works with internet connection. With tmxgta it is no problem to read how to use netctl etc. without having internet connection.
I plan adding vim, if it does not take much space.

Airport Express is shutting off when running newer firmwares including the latest 7.6.1

Hi All,
My Airport Express has started shutting off in the past month or so after upgrading to the newer firmwares 7.6 & 7.6.1
When the Airport Express shuts off, the status light goes dark and the only way to reset it is to unplug it, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in.
After I plug the unit back in, it works for maybe 15 to 20 minutes and shuts off again.
I googled the problem and I have noticed that others are having similar problem. Some people say that the hardware is failing or has failed. Others have mentioned resetting the unit to defaults and or downgrading the firmware.
So I reset my unit to factory, but it didnt seem to help and the unit still kept turning off.
Next I tried downgrading the firmware.
I tried looking for a way to downgrade using the new Airport Utility on my Mac thats running Lion. However i could not find such and option. So i found the older version (AirPort Utility 5.6) on Apples website that would allow me to do the fimware downgrade.
After installing the older version I managed to find the firmware downgrade function in Manual Setup. I downgraded the firmware to Version 7.3 (the oldest one I could choose). Once the unit has flashed itself it rebooted and came up in the Airport Utility. However It wouldnt allow me to configure the airport. The configuration options wouldnt load at all. This was fixed by resetting the unit to default. After it came back up I managed to set it up to how I had it before.
And since then its been running problem free without any hiccups for the past two days!!
My question is, has anyone seen this before? What could this be? Did Apple release the wrong firmware for my Airport Express Hardware? Did my Airport Express Flash the newer firmware imporperly? Were the settings from the old firmware incompatible with the newer firmware? Is the newer firmware causing the Aiport Express to oveheat or run out of spec? Or does Apple simply not put much effort into testing the firmware updates that it releases?
It would be nice if the Airport Express would flash a colored light instead of shutting down completely if something firmware/software related is causing the unit to crash or overheat.
I would like to know if anyone else has dealt with this problem.

Two likely possibilities:
1) An internal electronic component is on the verge of failure. It works until it gets hot, at which point it changes value and causes a shut down of the device.
2) An internal connector is right on the verge of losing contact. When the device heats up, heat expansion causes a loss of physical contact.
I assume that the Express is out of warranty. It is a real longshot, but you might try to carefully saw open the AirPort Express along the center seam to split the case in half to expose the internal electronics. There might be something obvious.....but unfortunately, more likely not.
Chances are, you will need to replace the device.

Why are the drivers missing for importing and burning cd's and DVD's after a new installation of the software?

I have just downloaded iTunes for 64-bit Windows 7, 7 times and I and got this error message:
"The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall."
This is a new hard drive, and there are no other CD burning software installed other than Windows Media Player which was pre-installed...There has never been any conflicts with any of the other previous versions of iTunes with WMP. I have reinstalled iTunes about 7 times and have come to the conclusion that the software is faulty, because all 7 times, I continuously get the exact same error message. This version of iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone, iTouch, iPad, or Apple TV. My music however is stored in the cloud, but having to constantly download 6,000 plus songs over and over again is time consuming and really a waste of data.
Are there available drivers that can be downloaded to remedy this problem, and if so, how can I obtain them?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

New installation of the AJA Kona 3 on HP Z820 works great!

I finally got around to installing the Kona 3 in my new HP PC running CS6.Both video and audio playback in Premiere Pro & After Effects is flawless in my engineering / client monitor. I am delighted with its performance.

In the Preferences/Playback, CS6 lists the available devices that are capable of outputting to a 3rd monitor.
In the same way that it detects an installed Blackmagic card, so too does it list the GTX 680. You select that as the default playback device.
With the BM card you also need to select it as the default audio device - and ensure that its audio is routed back into the PC. You do not have to do this with the GTX 680 - as it is an integrated part of the Win 7 system sound.
The beauty of the GTX 680 is that it can be used as a 3rd Win7 monitor when not using PP CS6 - unlike using the BM card.

We have these phones spread strategically around the home and in an outside annex. Great so far as the set-up went smoothly.However, as with new toys there will always be snags and the glitch I refer to is the flashing icon that activates on calls received but missed.To cancel this flashing,it requires handling each and every cordless phone! We found that with stored numbers they can be transferred between handsets-that's fine, but for cancelling missed calls the handbook has no comment to do this collectively. Is there a way? If I stumble on the solution I will post a comment. Anyone able to help?

CUCM restore to new installation

Hi,
We have CUCM 10.5 cluster
I need to ask if there is a disaster and we need to use the backup
So I'll re-install and restore this backup
Only do I need to care for anything for license to be ok ? as you know we got the license from the generated file from PLM. So could this file be changed after the new installation. or the restore process won't check for this point ?

How can I replace my iTunes Library with the contents of my iPod, including the playlists?

I tried transferring the purchases, but it didn't move my playlists over. I have also tried backing my old library up to a disc, and putting it in my new computer, but it still didn't transfer my playlists.
Is there any way I can transfer my old itunes library from my old computer to my new computer, including the playlists?
I have heard people talk about replacing itunes with the contents of the ipod, but I'm not sure how to do it.

How do I print the guides on artwork so that Printer will see crop marks?

I designed a wedding invitation in Photoshop CS3 and I need to send him samples of the artwork. I wanted to show him where the Guides are located so that he'll know where to do his cuts. I thought that I could should him where those cuts would go by including the Guides on the artwork. I saved the artwork as a jpeg.

Never heard of that being caused by installing iTunes. Try asking on a Windows forum. This isn't a problem with iTunes or any other Apple product. If you believe it is, uninstall iTunes. If the problem persists, you'll have to seek advice on a Windows forum or contact Microsoft for support.

Did you partition and format the flash drive first? See the following:

After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.

How do you include the jre in your installs?

This is a fall back and punt question.
My organization develops desktop (Swing) Java apps. To deploy, we have an install program that first runs the JRE install that you download from Sun's web site, then we copy our own jars and data files and so on to the user system. This "two step" approach works, but it's clumsy and ugly.
How do others deploy the JRE? Do you have your customers run the JRE install themselves, automatically run it within your own install, or do you mix Sun's files in with your own and copy them all at one time? If the last, what do you do about registry entries? (As in, worrying about overwriting entries if the user has already installed a newer version of java, etc.) Are there other complications?
I guess I'll just try it and see what happens, but if anybody has some helpful hints I'd be anxious to hear them.

Instead of including the JRE install file and running it you could just include the JRE directory with your install program. (C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05 for example) This way you won't mess up any java installation that may already be on the target machine.
Simply start your app with a batch or .exe file using a relative path to the java/javaw command. I use the following free program along with any standard installer:

Possible to include OWSM installation into the AIA 2.x Accelerator Scripts?

this is Davide, I have a quick question about the "AIA 2.x Install Accelerator Scripts"
is there any simple way, in your opinion, to include the OSWM installation with the SOA Suite 10.1.3.4 using the "AIA 2.x Install Accelerator Scripts" ?
I'm pretty confident with those scripts, I have used them so many times with no issue at all. Those scripts install a good AIA 2.5 environment with a SOA Suite without the OWSM.
Now I would like to install a new environment using the same Accelerator Scripts but I would like to include the OWSM as well into the implemented SOA Suite.
I was thinking to execute the scripts from 02 to 08, then to install the OWSM with the SOA Suite graphical installation wizard and then to proceed with the script 09 to the end.
Is it possible to use this method or will I miss anything in your opinion? Are there any specific scripts I should customize to do so ?
Should I desist to go ahead because not possible?

Here are is an excerpt from a sample 01_int_env_master.sh file:

This would mean that script 03 would run /u01/downloades/suite-install/runInstaller. Another example would be script 06 running /u01/downloades/bpel-install/bpel_oc4j/runInstaller, etc.
In order that the scripts can find these installers, you would extract the downloaded installer packes into SOFTWARE_DIRECTORY_J2EE (B34625-01 from edelivery.oracle.com), SOFTWARE_DIRECTORY_BPEL (B34437-01), and so forth.

New Installation Failing w/Error: The update could not be found.

On a new 2008 R2 server (Standard), using the Add Roles Wizard, I tried adding WSUS but it fails with "The update cound not be found. There may be a network connection issue. Click here for more information."
Clicking there takes me to the "Resolving WSUS issues" pages with refereces to Microsoft. The first is the most relevent:
"If you receive the message “The update could not be found. There may be a network connection issue.” when you try to install WSUS, refer to the information in the Network and Sharing Center Troubleshooting Guide."
Clicking on the link to the "Network and Sharing Center Troubleshooting Guide http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140135" takes me there (so there are no connectivity issues) but nothing seems to apply to my issue. I can browse the internet just fine and have even went in and manually installed various required components like IIS, .NET Framework 3.5.1, and Windows Internal Database but still no luck. I even downloaded the file "WSUS30-KB972455-x64" and tried running that without success. What am I missing?

To install WSUS as a role, the candidate server must either have an active Internet connection to obtain the WSUS installation package from Microsoft Update, or be configured to update from an existing WSUS server with the WSUS3SP2 Dynamic Installer package already approved. If the R2 server is configured to use WSUS and the WSUS3SP2 Dynamic Installer package is not approved for installation for the group(s) in which the R2 server is a member, then you may also encounter this situation.

That's hard to say. Running the installer should not have presented any issues, but then you've not shared the exact details of that particular failure, which almost certainly would have been different from the previous failures encountered using Server Manager. Of course, successfully running the installer presumes that the server has been properly prepared and prerequisites have been properly installed and configured. I would be concerned that you don't seem to have referenced and followed the explicit instructions documented in either the Step By Step Guide or the Deployment Guide, so this is a high probability source of the cause. (Note: .NET Framework 3.5.1 is NOT a required component, the Windows Internal Database does not require manual installation for WSUS, and if IIS7 is not properly configured with the exact requirements for WSUS, the installation will fail.)Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA, MCSA
