To detect the service name of the DB

Hi,
Is there a way by which we can detect the corr. service name of the DB, given the IP of that?
Thks & Rgds,
HuaMin

Just my 0.02€ :
syntax : tnsping <address> <count>
->
will check for an <address> paragraph in tnsnames.ora, and "ping" that name using hostname/port of the paragraph from tnsnames.ora. If it finds no <address> match in tnsnames.ora, it will fail.
You won't be able to use tnsping to figure out the service_name.
Maybe in stead try LSNRCTL SERVICE , and/or figure out from init.ora config file.

It said to get a new value and update it in Connection Properties. How do I do this?

  • How to get the service name of a webservice using UDDI API

    Hi,
    Iam working on setting up a dynamic partner link in a BPEL, by passing the endpoint of a web service queried from the UDDI (Oracle Service Registry 10.3 ) using the API. Iam able to do it successfully.
    Now, for example I have two operations in my wsdl, one to createCustomer and the other to bookTicket. I need to get the operation name using UDDI API so that i can pass it along with the endpoint to the partner link. ie. When i need to createCustomer, my UDDI API code will need to get the service name createCustomer and the endpoint and I would pass them to the partnerlink and the createCustomer operation of my webservice would be called.
    Can any one help me to get the service names of the wsdl using UDDI APIs.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    We have a cluster with 2 nodes. Everything works fine in Node1. When I try to failover TEST1 database to Node-2 it fails with this message.
    Generic service 'Analysis Services (TEST1)' could not be brought online (with error '1060') during an attempt to open the service.  Possible causes include: the service is either not installed or the specified service name is invalid.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    The error message is pretty straight forward, it's saying either the service isn't installed or it's not installed as the same service on that node. Did you install analysis services on the second node (from the error it seems like it isn't)?

  • Getting host, port from the tnsnames.ora with the service name

    Hi.
    I think that I asked a similar question yesterday. I want to ask if there is a way to get host and port from the tnsnames.org with a given service name. Somebody answered it for getting SID in the sqlplus. so I tried it in a similar way, but it didn't work.
    I have a service name, but I don't know how to get host and port. I know that I can parse the tnsnames.ora file to get it, but if possible, I want to use the more official and safe way.
    I'd appreciated if somebody knows it.

    Oracle RDBMS does NOT now or care about content of any tnsnames.ora file.
    Realize that each (remote) user can have their own personalized copy of tnsnames.ora
    The content of tnsnames not NOT have to reflect any reality.
    I could post the content of my tnsnames.ora & it would be useless to everyone reading.

  • How to detect the number of marker (cuepoitName) with same name from a list.

    Which command I must use to detect the cuePointTime only for the cuepointName: "name 1", "name 2" "name 3" ...
    My second question, for a second script is: how can I count how many  cuePointName with "name 1", "name 2", "name ...." I have in "Mylistcuepoint"?
    I can load several sound member so "Mylistcuepoint" can change obviously for the number of marker of "reg ...." and for the number of marker of "name ...." but the first word ("reg" or "name") it will be always the same.

    My second question, for a second script is: how can I count how many  cuePointName with "name 1", "name 2", "name ...." I have in "Mylistcuepoint"?
    It is a list like any other. Iterate through the items looking to see if they match your criterion/criteria and increment your found count (or add indices to a list) as you go:
    tSearch = "name 1"
    tFoundCount = 0
    Mylistcuepoint =  ["reg 01", "reg 2", "name 1, "name 2", "name  3"]

        if ( Mylistcuepoint[nn] = tSearch ) then tFoundCount = tFoundCount +1

  • How to connect the database (JDBC) using service name rather than SID

    How should we make the connection to the database using service name. Initially, we are using the SID to make the database connection, with following setting in the data-source.xml in OC4J using ABCDB as the SID.
    <data-sources>
         <data-source
              class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
              name="jdbc/ABCDB"
              location="jdbc/ABCDB"

              password="ABC"
              url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@191.1.4.126:1521:ABCDB"
         />
    </data-sources>
    It work, but now we need to make the connection using this service name ABCSERVICE, but it doesn't work in the OC4J (JDBC). May I know how should we handle this connection?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Pang

    Finally, I got the solution to make the database connection using service name, with putting the tnsname setting in URL portion.
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(host=191.1.4.126)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(SERVICE_NAME = ABCSERVICE)))"
    And now, it is working fine.

    Hello;
    So in the example below replace "ernie" with the alias you want the client to use.
    I can show you how I do it :
    First an entry need to be added to the client tnsnames.ora that uses a SERVICE_NAME instead of a SID.
    ernie =
    (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Primary.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Standby.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =
           (SERVICE_NAME = ernie)
    )Next the service 'ernie' needs to be created manually on the primary database.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.CREATE_SERVICE('ernie','ernie');
    END;
    /After creating the service needs to be manually started.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('ernie');
    END;
    /Several of the default parameters can now be set for 'ernie'.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.MODIFY_SERVICE
       ('ernie',
       FAILOVER_METHOD => 'BASIC',
       FAILOVER_TYPE => 'SELECT',
       FAILOVER_RETRIES => 200,
       FAILOVER_DELAY => 1);
    END;
    /Finally a database STARTUP trigger should be created to ensures that this service is only offered if the database is primary.
    CREATE TRIGGER CHECK_ERNIE_START AFTER STARTUP ON DATABASE
    DECLARE
    V_ROLE VARCHAR(30);
    BEGIN
    SELECT DATABASE_ROLE INTO V_ROLE FROM V$DATABASE;
    IF V_ROLE = 'PRIMARY' THEN
    DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('ernie');
    ELSE
    DBMS_SERVICE.STOP_SERVICE('ernie');
    END IF;
    END;
    /lsnrctl status - should show the new service.
    When I do this the Database will still register with the listener. I don't give that to the clients. That one will still be available but nobody knows about it. Meanwhile "ernie" moves with the database role.
    So in my example the default just hangs out in the background.

  • Given IP and port number, Is there a way to find the service name?

    Hi,
    In the Java language, if I am given the IP and the Port number, is there way to lookup the corresponding service name?
    thanks, grace

    There are a number of standard services by port number. You can get that from /etc/services on any nx system and put it into a map or array. That list doesn't change all that often.
    In general though, as Dave says, no.
    Assuming the service is not one of the standard ones and the same port may provide different services on different IP addresses, there would need to be some standard protocol for naming services that you could access at those IPs--either a "list of ports/services" service that's at a known port, or a request/response that would be standard across all IPs and ports. As far as I know, neither of those exist.

    so I have a server PC called "superlab"(*) and I also have a webservice called "superlab"(*). Now the users need to enter superlab:8001/superlab to the browser to access the service. I'd like them simply enter superlab.
    So my questions:
    1. how can I remove the service name from the URL
    2. how can I remove the port number from the URL
    3. (not related but I have difficulty to understand what it the point in "publishing" a webservice while simply starting it does the job as well)
    thanks!
    *Not the real name

    Luis,
    Then, as inolau's notice, create logon screen (or use the default one) and force the users to logon at runtime. Do not pass username/password as parameters.
    inolau,
    True that if the connection is specified in the config it will be the same for everyone. However, every case is different. For example one of our apps gets S3 credentials (from non-Oracle S3) as session parameters. It uses this common db connection to validate some stuff with the database, read security definitions and then it re-connects the forms using the credentials.

    Login to CmcApp Sessions tab

    Launch browser to Xcelsius .swf
    Prompted for login information: Administrator/password
