To display Date prompts in narrative view
Hi,
I'm new to Obiee.I have created 'From Date' prompt (greater than or equal to ) and 'To date'(less than or equal to) prompts ,I was able to display the reports correctly ,What i need is to display the chosen dates in title of the report.How can i achieve this using Answers? (i.e)In title i need to display 'Pending Amount Between FromDate to ToDate '
Thanks in advance,
Princy
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.I was able to complete major part of my need.But the last thing i need is,
Using presentation variables i was able to display the dates correctly in Table View,but i'm able to display only the 'From Date' in my narrative view.I need to display the 'To Date' also in my narrative view.I had applied two filters (i.e;greater than or equal to presentation variable and less than or equal to presentation variable)in column 'Date' .
Since i'm using a single column 'Date' for prompts i dont know how to give the condition in narrative view to show the 'To Date' in narrative view which the user chooses from prompts.

Data in a narrative view.
Sorry if this is simple. Just want to display the multiple values from a report prompt, not dashboard prompt, in the report. My effort has taken me to the narrative view and am using @12 to display the values in the column which has been filtered. But it is listing the values many times for each row. Can I use the narrative to display only distinct @12s or is there a better way to get the prompt values into the report. Thanks
You can do this with pivot table, it is not possible with Narrative.
1. Create pivot view for same report
2. exclude all the columns other than the column you want to show
3. Put the column in measures
4. duplicate the column, drag the duplicate column in to columns and hide
5. drag measure labels into Rows
6. apply aggregation to First on column in measures.
it works, I will blog it shortly with screen shots soon. -
Display data as a tree view on IE5
I want to display data which is parsered by .xsql and use .xsl transfrom to HTML as a tree view(using javascript).
Is there any sample or suggestion will eb grateful.
Regards,
KellyThanks for the backup :-)
A new version of the Tree Tag will be out some time this summer, by the way. It features:
1) The possibility to attach an object to a tree node (getObject(), setObject(...)).
This means you can display more information in the tree than just what is available
on the tree node itself. The information in this attached object can also be displayed.
This attached object can for instance be rendered by Struts's <bean:write ...> tags
2) Client side event listeners.
A new tag will be added that will only evaluate it's body when a node is expanded, collapsed,
selected or unselected. This way you can have a small bit of javascript sent along with the tree html to the browser, when a node is expanded/collapsed or selected/unselected, that for instance reloads the page in another frame in the browser
3) The <tree:tree...> tag will be able to detect selected/unselected nodes by itself, if the select request is sent to the page containing the <tree:tree tag>. In the current version only expands/collapses are detected automatically. This new feature is implemented to support the client side event listeners.
4) Someone asked for no-arg contructors of the TreeNode for use with reflection. They will be added to.
A larger, more detailed manual will probably also be available for a small fee, in addition to the free basic user guide and the free web app. example.
Look out for it ;-)

Display date prompt in crystal report output
Hi There,
In my report output the values entered in date prompt(range) is not displayed.
I've prompt that is created on document created on field. The properties of prompt are
Posting date...... date.........static values
value field : ERDAT.....
value options:
optional prompt: false
allow custom values: true
allow multiple values : false
allow discrete values: false
allow range values: trueHi Raj,
I believe you're trying to display the start date and the end date of the date range parameter.
Create a formula called 'start':
Minimum(?Postingdate) //This formula extracts the start date from the date parameter
Similarly, create another formula called 'end':
Maximum(?Postingdate) //This extracts the end date
Place these formulae on the desired report section.
P.S: You may even do this in a single formula.
Hope this helps!

Date Prompt using Calendar view
Hi,
My requirement is to filter data for a date column using Prompt. I want to show Prompt as a calendar for the date column. Data type for that column is "Timestamp" in Physical Layer and I changed it into "Date" data type in BMM layer.
I have created a prompt and after selecting a date from the calendar, it throwed the following error
"A date value was expected (received "2010-09-01 00:00:00")."
To have a try, I used following case statement in prompt Column:
case when 1=0 then "Booking Date Calendar"."Calendar Date" else TIMESTAMP '2009-01-01 00:00:00' END
Its taking "01/01/2009 12:00:00 AM" after selecting date from this modified prompt,but the data i have in date column is "1/1/2009".
I tried multiple ways so that i can see results, but i am not able to pass the correct value to the report from prompt.
Can you please tell me how to solve this problem?
Thanks,

Display data from multiple document Libraries in List View Webpart
Hi All,
I want to display data from multiple document libraries into one list view webpart(custom i have created)
I went through the following link http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ramg/archive/2009/04/22/implementing-a-simple-cross-site-collection-list-view-webpart.aspx
but it tells to display only from one document library.
My motive behind displaying data in the list view webpart is to achieve the functionality of Check In ,Check Out and other OOB features.
With Regards,
Jaskaran SinghHi,
As there is no such OOTB feature, a workaround is to create a visual web part to gather items from libraries and implement functionalities like Check in, Check out files
in different libraries.

Is it possible to use a condition in a narrative view.
I have a summary report in which if the user clicks Month I should get in the list report's narrative view as Data for that month.
same thing goes for year and quarter. Is it possible?Hi,
>I have a summary report in which if the user clicks Month I should get in the list report's narrative view as Data for that month.
Can you be clear on this.
User clicks Month value in month column?
So are you navigating to any other page when he clicks on that value?
If you are navigating to drill report,then pull one dummy column in that report criteria and hide it.Write formula to fetch date in fx of this dummy column,make month column as prompted in the drill report.Show that date fetched in narrative view as @n,n is position of that hidden column in criteria(@1 if its position is 1 from left).

Presentation variable in iframe/narrative view/Go URL
I am able to see the peresentaion variable declared in Dashboard Prompt in narrative view.
But when I put in iframe with narrative in Go URL then i am not able to filter the report based on presentation variable Values..." The page throws error
'saw.aViewsToRefersh.all' is null or not an object.'Do you get that error if you remove the presentation
variable column (@n). Does the a simple iframe work.
Also, how are you referring the presentation variable
in the iframe. I hope you are referring via a dummy
column.
Thanks,
Venkat

Yes the simple iframe work well in the browser. As I am trying to run report based on the dashboard prompt. I have declared presentation variable in Dashboard prompt and referring the presentation variable in the iframe via a dummy column. when i click on 'Go' of dashboard prompt after selecting the value in dropdown list, I see the error on left bottom most of Internet Explorer Showing " Done" is null or not any object. also i see javascript:void(null). I assume that the variable value is not getting passed to parameters i have given in Go URL -

Using dynamic sql you can pass column name to function. well I am not getting what you really want to do ? Please write in more detail. By the way I am providing one example here. see it uses dynamic sql.
Create or replace function fun_updtest (p_columnname_varchar2 in varchar2,
p_value_number in number)
return number is
v_stmt varchar2(500);
begin
v_stmt := 'update emp
set '||p_columnname_varchar2||' = '||to_char(p_value_number)||'
where empno = 7369';
execute immediate v_stmt;
return 0;
commit;
end;
call to this function can be like this..
declare
v_number number;
begin
v_number := fun_updtest('SAL',5000);
end;

Issue filtering a report (based on narrative view) with a dashboard prompt.
I used HTML and java-script codes in narrative view to solve the issue of "linking different reports on selecting values from a drop-down". A new issue has cropped up due to that implementation. The issue is that i can't attach a dashboard prompt to such a report. This means, when i put this report on a dashboard page with a dashboard prompt to help filter the report, the report does not gets filtered (it does not seems to be connected to the dashboard prompt).
Has anyone faced this issue before? If yes, please let me know how to tackle it at the earliest.

How to display Date Calendar in Oracle BI Answers Prompts (parameter)
I'm still new to OBIEE.
How to display Date Calendar in Oracle BI Answers Prompts (parameter)?
Thanks.Hi,
While creating Dash Board prompt choose the control to 'Calendar'.
I think it is not possible to provide 'Calendar' control using Prompts tab while creating request.
It is possible to write Java Script for a Column of data type 'char'. So, cast the date data type to char.
Go to: Column Properties --> Data Format
Choose override default data format to view the available options in the drop down list.
I would be very happy if anybody acknowledge me that I am wrong.

Dashboard Prompt (All Choices) using Narrative View
Using Narrative View I can display LOVs of Prompt but when the (All Choices) selected, how to display using Narrative View?
In Your criteria Create a column with foruma like the below
CASE WHEN '@{psitename}{All}' = '' THEN 'ALL' else '@{psitename}{All}' end
And now in your narrative of the report, Add @2 if the above column is in second place of criteria. Add this narrative in you compound layout. Hide the column if you dont want show it in table view.
This code works in 3 cases.
1. If variable is null then it shows default value - All
2. If variable is selected to all choices then it shows ALL
3. If you select any site, that shows site name.
let me know if does not work for you..

Date prompt using repository variables adds "DATETIME" literal to narrative
We are using repostiory variables to set initial date prompt filter values for our report. When we do that we get the "DATETIME" literal string show up on our report as in TIMESTAMP '2011-08-18 00:00:00' (I am posting the exact literals from the report.
Is there any way to fix this so "TIMESTAMP" does not show?
by the way the following procedure was followed in trying to create this narrative.
http://bischool.wordpress.com/2009/06/17/set-yesterday-or-some-date-value-as-default-in-obiee-dashboard-prompt/
We are doing this in OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1Double click on the connection pool and got to General tab.
In the excute on the connect field add the following Script.
ALTER SESSION SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'MM/DD/YYYY'.
Thant will solve the problem of time stamp.
I tried this in my recent project and it works. Let me know if you have any issues
Thanks
If it is the only issue coming up in the narrative view then follow Ashish method.
If the date problem persists for prompts and everywhere in the answers follow my method
