  • Should I return the Iphone or wait?

I know there may a software update soon to fix problems with Iphone but I just bought the phone and I do have the option to return it. I am sure if something is wrong with the hardware and can be fixed during assembly process, they will opt for that in future with new phones, do you think?
So do I keep it and wait for software update, or return and wait for the possiblity they may release a better version of phone with improved hardware?
I do have problems even with full 3g or Edge Signal in Long Island, NY with my Iphone 3g 8gig: Pop Email Inbox always saying 'connecting' and never getting the email. It never recovers, and the only way to fix is to power off/on. Maps/AIM app sometimes give errors saying I need to have network for app to work etc.
I love the Iphone, and want to keep it, but this is annoying since I have to turn off/on phone all day long. I have a week to return phone, I look forward to your suggestions. Thanks.

    Hi doobias123,
I've recently bought the new iPhone in the UK and I have very unreliable 3G reception & low signal strength in places like central London were I expect a good signal.

Anyway... I plan to wait, since I've only just got it I can afford to wait.
On a separate issue, did you have to make several attempts to get a GPS lock on your correct location? (Its another discussed problem)

  • Just a heads up about if you want to return the iphone 4

i had 3 replacements and decided enough was enough, i managed to return my phone yesterday after the 14 day cooling off period due to the phone being faulty. the networks can cancel the contract up to 28 days from the start.im hoping mr jobs announces a revised handset so i can grab one that actually works:)

3 Replacements? Over in the proximity sensor thread (a problem I suffer with too btw) there are some people reporting 6, 7 and even 10 replacements. I don't have words to describe how terminally stupid someone has to be to keep getting replacements with identical faults and then repeat the process almost ad infinitum. And I don't get why Apple geniuses are willing to indulge this kind of obsessive Groundhog Day behavior. These people either need to wait for a potential firmware fix, or get their money back.

  • Verizon sent out an order I called to cancel, I returned the phones as they told me to, yet after months of calls, I am in the pre-collections stage

So this journey started back in October. I was with sprint, and wanted out of their service, my contract was up, so I went with Verizon as they are the best in my area for service. My original order was for 2 iPhone 6's and an iPhone 5s. Upon finding out that I would only receive a $200 credit for my old iPhones if I bought only iPhone 6's, I called to cancel that order. Due to the fact the iPhone 6's were backordered they could not cancel my order, but they stated they would make notation on my account so that the order wouldn't ship. So, I then placed a new order for three iPhone 6's to qualify for the promotion. The beginning of November I received three boxes, and too my surprise, it was the first (original) order containing two iPhone 6's and an iPhone 5s. I called Verizon, and they said just send them back, don't open them. I was told there were return labels in the boxes, and there were not. So I then called the local Verizon store to see if I could return them there, they said, no it was an online order, so you have to send them back in. I then went to the website to print return labels, but both links where this was supposedly possible, the links did not work, dead links. At this point I called Verizon back who made a call on my behalf to the Verizon Store to return the phones there. I drove to the store, and when I got there, they suggested I just return the iPhone 5, as they had a 6 in stock, activate these phones, and cancel the second order, so I did. I then called and cancelled the second order, with the same issue, phones were backordered, so notation would be made to the account. Low and behold, 2 weeks later, 3 new iPhone 6's showed up at my door. So I went through the process again, calling customer service, canceling the service and having Verizon send me return labels for the phones. Five days later the return labels showed up, and I immediately returned the phones. I was told as soon as the phones were scanned by Fedex that a $635.97 refund would be issued to my card ( thats right two charges totaling almost $1300). Well that was not the case, It took a few weeks, but the refund was finally issued. Here's were the bigger problems begin, I received my first bill for those lines of service. I called Verizon as I thought this was odd, as the phones had never been out of the box or activated. So, phone call after phone call, Customer Service Rep after Customer Service Rep, I was told that the lines are now cancelled and you will be credited. Well a month goes by, and we are at the end of November, and I get a bill for over $500 dollars. I then call customer service again, tell them my story, stay on the line with patience waiting for the answer, and I am told again things are resolved. November 30th roles around, and I get another bill stating that my lines are disconnected due to non-payment. I call, and spend 52 minutes on the phone with a Customer Service Rep who tells me that everything is all set, he gives me the totals that are to be credited to my account, and I assume everything is well, as I receive no more letters or bills. Well flash forward to January 20, 2015, and I receive a call from an odd number, which turns out is a collection agency for Verizon, as my account is in pre-collections. Can you imagine my frustration, to be honest I am quite upset, so I again call customer service and get pushed to an account specialist. I relay my story, for and I am not joking, the 12th time, at which point I am informed that he cannot help me as the account is closed, and I will have to wait until 7am tomorrow morning to call back and speak with another account specialist. I am so frustrated with this entire situation, keep in mind I still have three active lines with Verizon that have been paid early every month since October. My real question is how many more times am I going to have to call to get this resolved? I have tried more than a dozen times to get this issue fixed, and here I am three months later still fighting this, it is just plain ridiculous and terrible business. How can you charge a customer for phones that he doesn't even have, thats right, I was issued a $635.97 refund on 11/13/2014, so how can I be charged for phones that were returned, and never taken out of the box. Also, how are they magically activated when they are still sealed in their original boxes. Needless to say I will continue to fight this issue, but rest assured, if this issue is not resolved tomorrow morning, I will be seeking legal counsel to fight these charges, as I do not want Verizon's poor customer service to harm my credit score that I have worked so hard to build to what it is now.
Where is the help Verizon, because as of now, it is non existent.

Thanks for the additional information AudiophileBen! Time is of the essence when it comes to special promotions. When did you process this purchase? If the promotion was not available when you purchased, then you are not eligible for it. • Nickel allergy and the iphone 6

I have had an iphone 5 for 2 years and never had any problems with it. Most of the time I had it savely tucked in a case, but especially the first weeks I had used it a lot bare handed and without any protection. While I have been diagnosed with a nickel allergy for years and develop easily rash when exposed to nickel I never had a problem with my black iphone 5.
About a week ago i received my new iphone 6. Space grey, because there isnt a black one. The first evening I used the device naked. Aware of my clumsyness and the fact that I dont really like the feel of the new material I bought a flip case the next morning. When I looked into the mirror I saw that I was developing eczemes in the face (eyes, forehead, ears and chin), on my lower arms and around the shoulders/lower back. All places I touch regulary and often. At first I thought it might not be a big deal, maybe I ate something bad and itll go away. However, the rash is getting worse and worse and while I was trying too figure out what it could cause (using my iphone to search the web) when it suddenly occured to me. I had heard that Ipads can cause such reactions, but since I never had problems with the old phones so I didnt consider it. After all, I am using a case which covers the back of the iphone and the sides.
Apparently my love for apples latest product is pretty much one sided. I am certain that I cant be the only one here with a nickel allergy. Could it be that the space grey colour was a bad choice and the silver/golden one would have been better since they have less nickel in their paint? Where can I contact apple to make them aware of the problem? Would it be possible to exchange my space grey iphone for another colour if those are less
I am a huge fan of the apple watch too, up to now I hoped that nickel wouldnt be an issue there, apparently apple still doesnt consider one of the most common allergies on the world and doesnt produce allergy friendly products. :/

Apple had problems with Nickel allergies before, there have been cases where rashes were caused by their products. This is not entirely new. The heat definitely may be an important factor in this, as heated metal tends release more nickel and therefore is more aggressive, specially in connection with sweat.
I got into contact with their support team and they were extremely helpful. They told me, that the case of the iphone 6 is the same as it's successor, the iphone 5.* I had a call with the support of my country (before I had just chat-support) and reported the issue there. I did mention that I didnt have any problems with that model, and I also tested it (putting it on my bare skin and such): No reaction. However, while MY model didn't show any traces of nickel, others did. During my journey through the web related to this issue I found the following link:
    http://nonickel.com/blogs/nickel-allergy-news/14852553-does-your-iphone-or-ipad- have-nickel-in-them-test-to-find-out
The woman on the phone suggested me to use my phone with a case only, and apply a screen protection too -- not to protect the mobile phone but rather to protect myself from it. (Which I did day 2 after receiving it.) If both doesn't help, she told me I should return the iphone 6.
Apparently, the iphone 5 also contained traces of nickel. Not every model does (apparently) but some do. The nickel allergy reaction is a problem, and it's important that apple knows about it. In the past they claimed that "it's a rare case" and happens so seldom that it's not an issue. The more people report it, the more is apple is forced to look for the source of the problem -- wherever it might lay.
If you suffer from any reaction, report it to them they are really helpful.

  • Hey Guys I Travel to the States and I am from Germany. I want to buy an iPhone 4S 8GB white Version unlocked GSM. Can I use the iPhone in Germany with every SIM Card?

Hey Guys I Travel to the States and I am from Germany. I want to buy an iPhone 4S 8GB white Version unlocked GSM. Can I use the iPhone in Germany with every SIM Card?

As long as you buy from an Apple retail Store (Apple owned ) an unlocked iPhone 4S it will work on GSM services worldwide
    from Apple.com
If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible micro-SIM separately. When you travel internationally, you can use a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s from a local GSM carrier.
The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
However the warranty will NOT be valid outside the US .If you need warranty or post warranty service you will have to return the iPhone to the US in person ( cannot mail in to US )

  • Is there a gesture for multitasking on the iPhone 5?

I've have so many home button issues on my iPhones over the years I would like to use gestures whenever possible. In particular, it would be nice to use a gesture to show the multitasking in iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 5 instead of double-clicking on the home button. I've already had to return the iPhone 5 because of home button issues.
Anyway, on the iPad 2 I can swipe up with 4 fingers to bring up multitasking.
That doesn't seem to work on my iPhone 5. It would be cumbersome anway, getting 4 fingers to fit for the swipe!
Is there some multitasking gesture for the iPhone 5 that does work (and is actually practical given the size of the screen)?
    Thanks,
    doug

You are very lucky about your home button! The creeping symptom that typically starts happening is that over time a single click gets interpreted as a double click. Sort of like a "stutter" that gets worse over time. When it finally gets to the point where I can reliably demonstrate it to Apple I bring it in and they exchange it. Of course when AppleCare is over I'm left with another device that will demonstrate the problem over time.
A couple of months ago on my iPhone 5 my home button experienced a different problem. Functionally it would work, but the rectangle in the home button would swivel left and right. It was obvious something was loose. So I exchanged that as well. They exchanged that one by mail - sending me a replacement and picking up the old one at the same time.
I have never had a mobile device or notebook computer from Apple that didn't require multiple repairs. Apple always takes care of it in the end, but it takes a lot of mental preparation before making an Apple purchase because I know it will inevitablly mean having to get repairs or exchanges.
Anyway, I'll just continue with double-clicking for multi-tasking in iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. There doesn't seem to be a simple alternative.
    Thanks,
    doug

If it's still asking for the seller's Apple ID and password, then he most likely did not actually remove the iPhone from iCloud. If the problem persists, return the iPhone and get your money back. The seller can figure out the problem and resell the iPhone later.

  • After cancelling the plan, can the iPhone still be a working iPod?

After de-activating the iPhone (cancel the plan), can it still be a working iPod?

In that case you would be better off returning the iPhone, eat the 10% restocking fee and buying either:
    1) 8GB Nano - save $290 (if you bought the 8GB iPhone)
    2) 30GB iPod - save $290 (if you bought the 8GB iPhone)

  • Can anything be done to change the white on grey color scheme in Bookmarks?

I just upgraded my Mac Book Pro to OS X Version 10.9.1. I was horrified when I got a look at what Apple has done to Safari!  I have macular degeneration - which means that my eyesight is slowly fading away.  Bookmarks was especially difficult because all of the bookmrks are shown with a white on grey color scheme.  And when the "new" Apple color schemes are not white on grey - they are grey on white.  I simply can NOT see anything which is white on grey.  OR white on ANY light color.  In order to be able to see anything, I need to have contrast.  For example, as I type on this page, the scroll bar is grey on white.  It has become almost impossible for me to find the scroll bar on most pages.  Previously, my scroll bars where usually bright blue.  I can see bright blue on white - but NOT grey on white.  I can read white letters on BRIGHT or DARK Blue -but NOT light blue.
Apple has made SO many strides in makes computers accessable to those of us who have no other choice except to deal with disabilities!  Can ANYTHING be done to change the white on grey color scheme which Apple has adopted throughout its system?
Now, in order to use my Bookmarks, I have to go to my Edit Bookmarks page.  Even that solutation is not all that helplful, because the lettering on the Edit Bookmarks page is so small.
Also - I discovered that the "new" Mail pages had the same problem.  For the most part, the "innovations" in mail make all of the pages too busy for me to be able to sort my mail or keep track of it in any way.  I had to choose to return to the "classic" mail option to be able to get a reasonable facsimile of being able to handle my E mail accounts!
And, of course, once again, the scroll bar on my mail accounts is also grey on white - so it takes a lot of searching for me to just find the scroll bar when I need to scroll down in an E mail!
ALSO - I was equally horrified when I discovered that the Upgrade to Version 10.9.1 made it impossible for me to visit some of my favorite music pages - most of which use MIDI files!  I can no longer hear any of my favorite MIDI music pages!  I TUNES, of course, is in love with people like Lady Gaga - the type of performers - and performances - which have no relevance to older Americans.
I do volunteer work at a local Assisted Living facility and one of the greatest advances we have been able to make with Alzheimers patients is the way in which Senior Citizens respond to music from their time period.  Unfortunately, most of the music which senior citizens prefer to listen to is music which has been preserved in MIDI pages.  A few weeks before I "upgraded" my Mac Book Pro - I could take my computer over to the local Assisted Living Facility and play music from Hymn Time's Cyberhymnal or the Angelwinks tunes - but I can NO longer do that with the current Apple "upgrade" in version 10.9.1 - because the music from those MIDI pages can no longer be heard by anyone!  The page comes up and you can see the writing - but no one can hear any of the music.  We understand that a group in Switzerland has been working on an APP for I Phones which DOES make MIDI files accessable - so surely it should be possible to provide a way for Version 10.9.1 users to listen to MIDI files, such as those provided by Hymn Time's Cyber Hymnal or by Angelwinks!
You will notice that I changed the font for this to Arial Black - primarily because I could NOT see what I was writing when I first began - because, once again, the color scheme was grey on white.

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Printing problems (PDF files-HP Color Laserjet 1518ni: return the printer?

Hi everyone, I recently switched platforms and became a Mac user and had to buy a new
printer because my old HP deskjet is not compatible with my computer. So, I bought an HP
Color Laser printer, supposedly Mac compatible, but every time I try to print a PDF file it only
prints the first page. And then stops printing. I spent hours with the HP customer service, reinstalled
the driver, changed configurations, but it still does the same thing. The customer service representative could not solve the problem. I was wondering if there is any one else who had a similar issue with printing? Is it Mac OS X 10.5.5 that causes the problem? I am about to return the laser printer; it would be so helpful if I got some feedback. If it is a printer issue, then, which printer would you folks recommend that is not too expensive but efficient (I use the printer a lot and need an efficient one) and a printing speed of around 12-20ppm that actually does work with the Mac?
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for calling my attention to the Adobe issue. I did try and print a PDF file with Preview and it worked! How was the issue solved with Adobe 7? Maybe Adobe pro7 also similar bug issues; is it to Adobe that I should be reporting this or to Apple?
    Thanks again.
It's definitely an Adobe problem. The only solution I ever saw was either to print from Preview or to use later versions of Adobe Reader 8 or any version of Reader 9. I asked Adobe support what the problem was. I never got a reply.
You should know that Preview (and any other application which reads PDFs using Apple's PDF engine) has a problem with displaying Times Roman Italic, and only Times Roman Italic when launched under OS X 10.5.5. All other fonts appear to work normally; at least I haven't found one which has a problem, including other Times Roman font faces, including Times Roman Bold Italic. Preview seems to print properly, but the on-screen display has problems. The same files display properly with apps which don't use Apple's PDF engine, and also with apps which use Apple's PDF engine under versions of the OS earlier than 10.5.5, going back to at least 9.2.1. Apple is aware of the problem.
There seems to be at least two problems with the main PDF engines for OS X, Apple's and Adobe's.
