To StrongArm or Not to StrongArm?

For people who are interested in personal java programming, what processor is best in terms of power of CPU and availablility of the latest pjava? Initially I thought StrongArm processor was the way to go. But then I find out that the early access version which is based on the older version (JDK1.1) is more than a year old.
The newer version (JDK1.2.x) is available only for the MIPS and SH3 processor. I looked at PDA with these processor and found them to be low on memory. Then I looked at the latest PDA models from the same company and I found that they are based on StrongArm processor.
This is very confusing. All the latest models seems to be based on StrongArm and yet SUN would not release their latest version of pJava on StrongArm.
Any Ideas's on which processor to aim while buying a PDA?

I've developed some apps in a Symbol PDT 8100 (which uses the StrongArm processor) using the version of personal java that I downloaded from "Early Access". It works quite fine, but it's still a betha version and it looks like Sun had forgotten StrongArm in the newer releases.
There are other JVMs for the StrongArm which support more modern jdk releases, like the CrEme's one that you can find in http://www.creme.com, but that's a comercial solution.
Anyway, StrongArm processor is being using in nearly all new PDAs, so, either Sun will make a port por Personal Java to StrongArm, or surely when the PDA Profile for CDC were release, we'll find a StrongArm version.

I downloaded the zip file to the start menu directory on my Pocket PC as indicated in the readme file. But when I go to execute the zip file I get a message saying that there is no application associated with the file and I should run the application first and then open the file from within the application. Does Pocket PC not support zip files. Any help on how to get this installed would be greatly appreciated.

You must be talking about a Windows Mobile 5.0
device. If yes, then Oracle Lite 10.2.0.2.0 and later

You're right, i meant a windows mobile 5.0 device. What i'm confused about is that, i have oracle lite 10g Release 2 installed on my machine however i don't find in the cabinet packages an installer for windows mobile 5.0 device. Should i use the cab file for SDK420? or there is a specific cab file for windows mobile 5.0?
One last question. Do we have two version of Oracle lite 10g Release 2 (one is 10.2.0.1.0 and the other is 10.2.0.2.0)?

8i Lite and Pocket PC StrongARM support

Would anyone know or heard rumors of when 8i Lite will support the Pocket PC/StongARM (ala Compaq iPaq)?
Currently the 4.0 version only supports MIPS/SH3 per the documentation:
Windows CE device
7 Windows CE 2.0 or higher
7 SH-3 or MIPS processor (other processors supported soon)
7 Handheld PC, Handheld PC Pro, or Palm-size PC Pro form factor

Not sure what exactly you are asking for, as the original topic for this thread was regarding .NET compact framework.
You cannot use .NET in plan c/c++ applications, you need to use managed C++.
If your existing application uses the ODBC APIs directly, then you should have no problem moving the PPC2002 application to the PPC2003 device, provided that the devices use the same chipset.

Linux + Personal Java on StrongArm(iPaq or SA1111)?

I have watched the discussion here, it seems that mostly run the personal java in WinCE, so anybody successfully getting it work in Linux? As my SA1111 or iPaq is running in Linux and want to run with Personal Java with AWT support.
Can anybody help?

Besides the J2RE there's a second file: additional-ipaq-stuff.tar.gz
It contains libraries and other files which are required to run Java
but are not part of the standard familiar distribution (libXp.so,

The unmodified J2RE needs about 18m, if you remove one of the two
included VMs (classic green & classic native threads VM) and files you
don't need (candidates are for instance soundbank.gm, i18n.jar
libJdbcOdbc.so, libpreemptive_close.so, libioser12.so, ...), you may
get it down to 12 or 13M. You should be able to save even more space
by removing unneeded classes (e.g org.omg.*) from rt.jar.

* MouseEvent.isPopupTrigger() and JPopupMenu.isPopupTrigger() are

Why not build a standalone JVM?

I've seen all kinds of JVM for different platforms (not yet for my HP Jornada 540 though :-/). But I never saw a standalone JVM, which doesn't need any OS, or I should say, itself is the OS. I believe it is now possible to do so, as the JVM is hardware dependent and supports numerous applications already. This is specially good for a PDA, which we don't use for heavy computations, and pretty much all applications on a PDA are actually "applets".
Probably the most challengeous part for a JVM to be an OS is the implementation of peripheral devices, but again PDAs are very much fixed, and not much new hardware for it.

There is one available for the Intel StrongARM processor (iPAQ) called SavaJe XE. I havn't tested it but it would be interesting to hear from people who has.

Processor type of the file and the device does not match

We ve the following problem with Zfh 7 sp1. When trying to distribute a
application we receive the message failed. When i open the log is see the

i believe, the support for personaljava will be withdrwan in future from Sun Microsystems.
but anyway what is your target device ? you can use jvm from companies other than Sun.

Three movies I bought from iTunes this morning do not show up on the 1st Gen AppleTV.

I understand some file formats are not compatible with AppleTV (1st gen) but these films were purchased directly from iTunes. One would assume they are formatted properly to work on Apple equipment, yes? Previously purchased movies show up on the AppleTV just fine, so I'm not sure what's going with these three. They were from the $4.99 Sci Fi collection: Enemy Mine, Dune and Terminator 2. Oldies but goodies. The iMac, where the iTunes Library lives is used to stream the content to the AppleTV, and everything that is in my Library appears to be available for streaming, except these three films. Any advice?

I have now restored Factory Settings on the Apple TV. Looked promising until iTunes hangs everytime I tried to enter the podcast page of the sync options. And I get errors that my newest movies, created in Final Cut Pro X with the Share with 720p Apple Devices export settings are not compatible with Apple TV.

I read that browser.ui.layout.tablet = "1" can fix this problem. But it not works. I can work only in pnone interface that is not good for my 8'' tablet.

Hello Gurus,
I have developed a BI report with more number of parameters.
Case 1:
When i run my report , I am able to see data for particular condition but one column doesn't show any thing. All the rows in the column are blank.
Case 2
I tried to put the blank column as parameter, The Program works with out displaying that column data.
I am not sure where it is going wrong. I tried running the code in toad and i am able to see the data.
I have checked the code, Parameter description, length, Template and data definition.
Please help.

For that column did u changed any alias name in the query...
check ur template once by loading the xml data...
check that column form field that matches with the xml tag or not..

Can not refresh view data in STRUST

I am using the JSP (STRUTS) for developing my App.
I get a list of contact. In bellow it, I make a link for each contacts.
When i view details of one contact. On click link below.
My pages:
listcontact.jsp
contactdetails.jsp
When i request a details of contact from list contact -> View successfull.
But when i refresh the contactdetails.jsp page. I got a message error:

I have to use:
response.setHeader("Cache-Control","no-store");

Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter is not working. Please Help...

I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...

Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.
